3 Meet the Coaches Head Coach Greg Gammell Greg Gammell enters his third season as Rhode Island College s head men s golf coach. The Anchormen are coming off a 3-0 fall 2008 season, which saw RIC place second at the Great Northeast/Little East Alliance Championship and 37th at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championships. Under his tutelage, the Anchormen went a combined 8-5 during the fall and spring seasons in The Anchormen placed fifth and the Alliance Championships and 37th at the NEIGA Championships. It wasn't long before Gammell's impact was felt on the Rhode Island College men's golf program. He led the Anchormen to the greatest season in program history in as the club recorded a 14-3 overall record and a second place finish at the inaugural Little East Conference/Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tournament He led the Anchormen to a 6-2 overall record and a 29th place finish at the NEIGA Championships during the fall 2006 campaign. It was the program's highest finish ever at the annual event. The Anchormen followed up the fall season with an 8-1 record in the spring. The Coventry, Rhode Island native is an outstanding golfer and a six-time champion and four-time runner-up at the Coventry Pines Golf Club. He was the runner-up at the 1981 Pawtuxet Valley Open. He was the Fenner Hill Golf Course Club Championship runner-up in In addition to his coaching duties, Gammell is the Assistant Director of Facilities and Operations at Rhode Island College. He earned a bachelor s degree in agriculture and resource technology from the University of Rhode Island in He played three seasons of golf for the Rams, placing fourth at the 1983 New England Intercollegiate Championships. Gammell earned Honorable Mention All-New England honors as a senior in Gammell resides in Coventry, Rhode Island with his wife Beverly. They have two children: Geoff and Kelsey. Assistant Coach Gene St. Pierre Gene St. Pierre enters his first season as the assistant men s golf coach. He assists Head Coach Greg Gammell with all facets of the RIC men s golf program including administering practices and recruiting. St. Pierre, who also serves as the college s photographer and videographer, will also use video and photographic equipment to help analyze the student-athlete s swings in order for them to improve as golfers. Over the past few years I ve spent a lot of time mentoring and training high school students and RIC students in photography, St. Pierre said. I look forward to expanding that experience to include working closely with the student-athletes and helping them reach their full potential as intercollegiate golfers. He is an avid and skilled golfer with extensive youth sports coaching. St. Pierre earned a bachelor s degree from Rhode Island College in He resides in Cranston, Rhode Island with his wife Susanne 77. They have two sons, Gregory (23) and Brian (20). 25

Freshman Year (2008): Named team MVP...saw action five matches and averaged a team-low score of shot a season-low score of 80 at the Sterling Invitational on Apr. 22. Derek Jensen 2007 Fall Season: Competed in all seven of the team's matches and averaged a team-low score of was the GNAC/Little East Champion, posting a two-day score of 146 (72, 74); the first RIC golfer ever to accomplish this feat, on Oct High School: Earned Second Team All-State and First Team All- Division honors while at Cumberland High School graduate.
