3 Member s Corner Welcome Back Party The Shack 50/50 Dining Program It s simple... You pay $50 per month (March-December). You get 50% off a la carte food and non-alcoholic beverages at the Club for Members and associated family members*. For example a $30 entree will cost you only $15 (while the full $30 is applied toward your food minimum). No strings attached, no blackouts - just 50/50! Members who enroll in the 50/50 Dining Program will also receive special pricing on Member and special events. Dress Code Reminder We would like to remind all of our members to dress properly when utilizing the club. When using the Grill Room specifically, we kindly ask that both men and boys wear collared shirts and remove their hats. Jeans are ok, but are not preferred. Ladies, please refrain from wearing yoga pants and workout wear when dining in the Grill Room. Sweatshirts, cargo shorts and tee shirts are not permitted. Should you fail to remember these guidelines you will be kindly reminded by a member of the staff. 6 Events From the Food & Beverage Department Dear Members, Welcome to the 2017 season! Your Food and Beverage team is looking forward to a great year. Many of our members joined us for fireside dining during the winter and truly enjoyed their experience. We also saw many members hosting and attending catered events here at Shack. Thank you for choosing us for your events and for all of your positive comments regarding the food and service! We offer catering for any occasion, large or small either here at the club or at your home or office. Please continue to think of your club when planning your next special event for any occasion. All members receive special pricing. We have made a few enhancements to to improve our members experience. We hope you enjoy them. Tilly s is now open Tuesday through Sunday (weather permitting) and will be open thirty minutes before the first tee time on all weekends. Hot breakfast sandwiches will be available on weekend mornings. The Saturday afternoon barbeque has begun, and in addition, Tilly s will remain open until 8pm on Saturdays serving a full menu. Many members have seen the new patio furniture on the terrace! It looks amazing and now offers dozens more seats for patio dining. Servers on the patio will now have ipads to take your orders and get them into the kitchen more quickly. We will also have ipads at the pool this season as well as many other enhancements to meet the needs of our members while enjoying our beautiful pool. We look forward to the opening of the pool later this spring. Amanda and Ashley have many wonderful member events planned for Our culinary team works with them to create a fun and memorable experience. Please join us and make your reservations early as all of our events are well attended. I greatly appreciate all of the feedback I have received regarding the food and beverage department since I have joined our team. We have incorporated this feedback into our operation and new spring menu. 12 Golf Golf News Welcome back to what is sure to be a fantastic 2017 golf season! I was glad to see so many of you over the mild winter and hope to see more of you as the weather warms up. I would like to take a brief moment to thank Howard Drewes for his years of service as the Starter. Howard will still be part of our team in a semi-retired capacity. I would also like to congratulate and welcome Russ Jones to the Starter position. You will see many familiar faces returning to the golf shop this year: Tim Haney my 1st Assistant, Sean Lawrence, Joe Bush, Rebecca English, and Grace O Brien. The golf team is planning a variety of great new events this year at Shack and hope you will join us to play in them all. New additions include a Glow Ball Tournament and Parcell s Revenge a cross country tournament. If you have not yet had a chance to check out the full tournament schedule, you can do so on the members only site. Our junior program also continues to grow, and we have added additional junior camps and clinics for this season. Registration has opened, so be sure to sign up on the members only site or by calling the golf shop. Ah-Keem was a three time state champion in track and field at Metuchen High School. His favorite club is a 5 hybrid. His long term goals are to become a producer of music and films, but in the meantime, he is here to make all of your days at Shack as enjoyable as he can. 15 From the Superintendent Dear Members, As most of you know, Golf Course Supers love to talk weather! We came out of winter with an early start and then got hit with a late snow and lots of rain. The maintenance staff continued to work through all the precipitation, and the course is waking up from its winter rest very nicely. This spring you can look forward to some great course improvements. First we began work on the bunkers throughout the course, removing sand, cleaning up the edges, and installing new sand. This project is ongoing throughout the 2017 season with the goal to have the green side bunkers completed first and then to move on to the fairway bunkers. We have also added some posts and ropes around the course to help direct cart traffic and help keep the course looking great. The next major project speaks for itself as a great addition to Shackamaxon. The maintenance staff constructed the new floating Walking Bridge at #8. It is one of the most exciting course improvement projects I have had the honor of working on and provides a convenient shortcut across the lake and a beautiful vantage point from which to take in the course. As the 2017 season begins, my goal is to continue to produce a course that the members and staff are proud to call home. A tribute to Members and Caddies past and present (see photo of plaque to the right). The bridge is unique for courses in the area as it is a floating bridge set on the pond separating tee from green. The new bridge considerably shortens the walk for players not using carts, and for our hard-working caddies. We hope you agree it is a great addition to a great golf hole. As the plaque reads: This bridge may float, yet it be sturdy. So climb across, and make yer birdie!
