13 Pace of Play Policy It is common knowledge that a slow pace of play detracts from the enjoyment of the game. While players are not expected to run around the course, they should be aware that there are others on the course at the same time and therefore, should act with common sense and courtesy towards all other players. The purpose of this policy is to ensure the etiquette of golf is observed at all times and that all players are treated with courtesy and afforded the opportunity to maximum enjoyment from their game. While it is the role of the lowest marker in the group to monitor the etiquette of golf, including the pace of play, within the group it is the responsibility of all players to maintain their place in the field. The place in the field is immediately behind the group in front, not ahead of the group behind. Slow Pace of Play Defined For the purpose of this policy, slow pace of play is defined as loss of place in the field (ie. 10 minutes behind the group in front) and unable to close the gap within a reasonable time or failure to call the following group through. An automatic two stroke penalty will be imposed on each player in the group if a group loses two places in the field (ie. 20 minutes behind the group in front) and does not immediately close the gap by proceeding immediately to the next hole (where appropriate). Administration of the Pace of Play Policy The Pace of Play policy is administered by the Match & Greens (M&G) Committee. The M&G Committee may act on personal observation or complaints from members. Penalties for slow Pace of Play While it is not the intent of this policy to issue penalties for slow play it may be necessary to do so for repeated transgressions. As it is the responsibility of all players to monitor the pace of play, the general rule is for any action to be taken against the entire group and not the any individual st instance - a verbal warning will be given to each member of the group nd instance - a written warning will be given to each member of the group rd instance - a two stroke penalty will be given to each member of the group. On issuing a two stroke penalty, a further letter may be sent to all members of the group warning that in the event of any further transgression, the M&G Committee reserves the right to take further action. Further actions may include, but not limited to, requiring individuals to play at the end of the field, being restricted to play outside competition times or being teamed with other playing partners. Reporting slow Pace of Play If you are held up during your round because a group in front fails to adhere to the Pace of Play Policy, you should report the group to a member of M&G Committee (see page 3 for M&G Committee members). Cart users should be particularly aware of the extra time taken in sharing a cart and look for ways to speed up play, for example, move ahead of walkers to look for possibly lost balls, try to position the cart for easy access when leaving the green to reduce the number of times that you have to get in and out. 13

14 At WFCC it should not take a group of 4 players more than 4 hours to play an 18-hole Stableford round. To assist in achieving this every time we play the following is expected to occur: 1. Be ready to play at least 10 minutes before your scheduled tee time. 2. Be ready to play your shot as soon as you are set up. 3. Play when ready even if it is not your turn to play provided you can do so safely (except in matchplay). 4. Allow short hitters to tee off first. 5. Putt out - unless you will be standing on another player's line. 6. Keep practice swings and pre-shot routines to a minimum. 7. Walk directly and at good pace to your ball. 8. Leave your golf bag/cart to the side nearest the next tee - not in front of a green. 9. Move off the green as soon as all players in the group have holed out. 10. Mark your score card on the next tee while others are teeing off. 11. Play a provisional ball if your ball may be lost or out of bounds. 12. Call the following group through if a clear hole is lost and the group behind is being delayed. 13. Call the following group through after 1 minute of searching for a ball if you intend to search for the ball until found i.e. another 4 minutes. 14. In Par, Stableford and Fourball events, pick up when you can no longer score on the hole. 15. Ensure that every player takes responsibility for their pace of play. 16. Be aware of your place in the field at all times! Note - To assist in the monitoring of the pace of play all players are required to record the time of tee off (first tee shot) and the time of finish (when walking off the final green) on place provided on the scorecard. DEFINITIONS OF SIREN 1. One Prolonged Blast of Siren = Discontinue Play Immediately 2. Three Short Blasts of Siren = Discontinue Play after finishing Hole 3. Two Short Blasts of Siren = Resume Play 14
