2 Page 2 CCWGA 18 HOLE by Joan VanDerbeek Our 2017 Golf Season opened with some very exciting golf! An Eagle, Lots of Birdies, and a Hole-in-one! A great start to our year! Congratulations to Sue Bennett for her Hole-in-One on April 1 st on Hole #16! NO April Fools prank, this was the real deal. This is Sue s first hole-in-one, I understand a lot of celebrating was going on. I was there to witness Donna Murray s second shot, hole #3, on lady s day. Donna s ball hit the front of the green rolled to the middle pin and dropped into the hole for an EAGLE. Very exciting, Congrats Donna! Good luck to Sandy Bunting and her WPGA Team! Matches start May 2 nd with Ocean City. Play Well! May 25 th; MISGA/CCWGA MIXER! Thanks to the MISGA guys for inviting us to play. Sign-up sheet will be in the club house Ladies Member Guest Invitations in the Locker Room Theme: LIFE S A BEACH Dates: June 23rd and 24th Sign up early!! Chairpersons: Maureen Murray / Carole Mankus CCWGA 9 HOLE by Judie Davis Come Join Us! The 9 Hole Ladies Golf Group plays on Tuesdays beginning at 10AM. There is a different format each week and prizes are awarded. We have lunch together following our game. Sign up sheet is on the board in the Golf Shop. Questions? Contact Judie Davis or Jean Hipps
3 Page 3 MISGA by Robert Allen There are a lot of opportunities to play golf in MISGA events. We have two home outings in May. Thursday, May 18 we will host a home MISGA for other clubs. Thursday, May 25 we will hold our popular golf outing with the Cripple Creek Women s Golf Association. We will have a light continental breakfast at 8AM followed by a shotgun start for golf at 9AM. After golf, we all will have lunch together, and prizes for golf will be awarded. Cost will be $25.00 per player. Your lunch choice will be ordered when we check in at 8AM. Your Cripple Creek account will be billed for the $25.00 and the cost of the lunch you choose. 50/50 will be for sale in the morning and at lunch. Our away MISGA s schedule for May are: Wednesday, May 3, Compass Point County Club, in Pasadena, MD Tuesday, May 9, Garrisons Lake, Smyrna, DE Tuesday, May 30, Bear Trap Sign up sheets will be posted in the pro shop two weeks before the dates of the home and away events. So check your schedules and sign up for the MISGA events in May. If you have questions contact Robert Allen, your Cripple Creek MISGA representative, jwa37@comcast.net or GOLF COMMITEE REPORT by Glen Reid Well, at this writing, it sure doesn t feel like Spring. But, it looks like warm weather gets here just in time for aeration. Go figure!! The good news is that the warmer weather helps the greens heal quicker and gets us back to the those lovable Cripple Creek greens. Our new scorecards are now in use. They have a new look and the new tees and ratings are now official. I encourage, for those of you who struggle to reach the greens in regulation, to try our Friendly tees. The object is to have fun and enjoy playing the game. The outside group play is winding down so there is ample opportunity to get out on the range and the course to get your game ready for the heat of the golf season. Also I would strongly encourage you to give consideration to availing yourselves to our professionals for a lesson, or 2, or 3, etc. If not individual instruction, consider a clinic. We have a great group of teachers here at the Creek and we can all use a little improvement. I must say, I have been pleasantly surprised at the noticeable reduction in the number of tees, broken and whole, that are being left on the tee boxes. Good work, and if you see any, throw them into the long grass. Everyone always hears about pace of play well, there is a very good book, Golf s Pace of Play Bible by Lucius Riccio, available on Kindle. A big well done, and congratulations to Sueann Bennett, for her hole-in-one on #16. She said it was 109 yards with an 8 iron, but it was April 1 (Fools Day) so...hit em straight and enjoy.
4 Page 4 Let s Play Bridge! The Bridge Group continues to meet on Fridays beginning at 10AM. We break for lunch and finish our 6 rounds by 2PM. Deadline to sign up for Friday's game is 6PM Wednesday. If you would like to play, call Judie Davis or Aimee Marvel Adopt-A-Hole Thank you to our members that attended Adopt-A-Hole and help keep the course in great condition by adopting a hole. Thank you to Sue Bennett, Ginny Major, Glen MacDonald, Ryan Diehl and Tim Foran for your participation!
