1 SCHOLARSHIP 29 AUGUST AUGUSTUS 2017 ISSUE: 29 UITGAWE: FROM THE HEADMASTER Geagte Ouers The different beneficiaries of our Charity Week will visit the school or be visited by the learners of the school during the course of the week. The aim of this focus week is to help others less fortunate than ourselves, to teach the boys something about caring and to make them realise how blessed they are. I want to thank each family who made a contribution for the beneficiaries. They are: Rusoord, Drakenstein Animal Protection, Boland Autism School, The Little Fighters Cancer Trust and Joostenberg Primary School. Die hokkiewedstryde sal by HMS se astro gespeel word. The winter sport practices will conclude this week. The school will start with an Alternative Sport Programme for the remainder of the term. Please refer to this programme. I conclude by reminding you about the invite below: IMPORTANT INVITE: The school is still currently in an experimental phase with regards to alternative school times and sport practice venues to investigate the feasibility of building an Astroturf at Paarl Boys Primary. Please refer to circular 06/2017 for further detail. A contractor has been invited to inform parents what to expect if an Astroturf is to be built at the school. This will also provide an opportunity to ask questions. The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, 31 August 2018 at 18:30 in the school hall. All parents are hereby invited to attend the meeting. I m proud of you! RUAN VD MERWE Ruan has good manners and his school work is always done without checking on him. Ruan is also kind hearted. A true Boishaaier. AFR JOEY ROSS Joey is always kind and friendly. He is strong and positive at all times. It is such a pleasure to have him in my class. ENG TAARIQ ABRAHAMS A true gentleman who works extremely diligently. GR 1E & 2E OUTING TO ARTSCAPE THEATRE On Thursday, 24 August 2017, Grade 1 E and Grade 2 E enjoyed their term Outing to the Artscape Theatre. We watched the show Kipper and the Beehive, which the learners thoroughly enjoyed. Andoni described the outing as Fantastic and Henry said that It was great fun. Grade 2 E boys enjoyed the singing and dancing. We can t wait for next year s show! JOSHUA WEBER Joshua is approaching his school work and demeanor in the classroom positively this term. Continue to show true grit!

3 KOORFEES On the 16th of September 2017, our Junior Choir will be be taking part in a choir festival organised by La Rochelle Girls' Primary School. This will take place in the Paarl Town Hall. Two well-known artists, Jannie Moolman and Corlea Botha, will be guest performers at this event. Tickets for this event are already for sale at Computicket under Jannie en Corlea Koorfees. Please buy tickets early to avoid disappointment. Ons Juniorkoor gaan op 16 September 2017 deelneem aan 'n Koorfees wat deur Primêre Meisiesskool La Rochelle aangebied word. Die spoggeleentheid vind plaas in die Paarl Stadsaal. Jannie Moolman en Corlea Botha sal optree as gaskunstenaars. Kaartjies hiervoor is beskikbaar by Computicket: Jannie en Corlea Koorfees. Ons moedig u aan om asb. vroegtydig u kaartjies te koop, om enige teleurstelling te voorkom. Fiela se kind n Groep graad 7-seuns, vergesel deur me Marinda le Roux en Sandra le Roux, was bevoorreg om Saterdag die opvoering van Fiela se kind in die Baxter teater in Kaapstad by te woon. Hulle het die ervaring terdeë geniet.

Date: 6 September 2017 Time: 18:15 19:15 Venue: School Hall Admission: Free / Toegang : Gratis LAERSKOOL CRADOCK SPAR TENNISTOERNOOI: AUGUSTUS 2017 Woensdag 23 Augustus het die span, bestaande uit Hugo van Zyl, Frans Willem van der Merwe, Samuel Botha, Armand Pentz, Reinhard Barnard, Loock Odendaal en Zander le Roux saam met Hoër Meisieskool en Gimnasium op n geskiedkundige busrit na Cradock vertrek. Dit was n eerste vir tennis en sportkodes as n geheel. On Thursday and Friday we managed to win all our group matches convincingly against Hudson Park Invitational Team, Stulting and the hosts Cradock. We finished in the first group and would play Selbourne, for the third year in a row, for gold and silwer. Saterdag se finaal was n moelike een aangesien Selbourne se nommer 1 reeds verlede jaar in die SA- skole span gespeel het en hulle as n span oor baie ervaring beskik. Net Samuel Botha kon daarin slaag om sy enkels te wen en ons verloor reeds die finaal na die enkel wedstryde, 5 1. Frans Willem en Armand verloor in drie stelle, so dit wys dat die punte in die finaal baie nader was as wat die eindtelling weerspieël. We won the silver medal for the third year in a row. The team as a whole played excellent tennis and were true ambassadors for their school. Their team spirit and sportsmanship is commendable. ASTROQUIZ Geo Groenewald, Justin de Villiers, Lucien du Plessis and MC Prins in grade 7 were at the South African Astronomical Observatory in Cape Town on the 25 th of August where they competed against 36 other schools in the Astroquiz All schools were split up into two groups that took part in the 3 rd round. The top 16 out of these groups then went through to round 4 where they competed for a first, second and third place. The boys did very well in the 3 rd round where they were placed 4 th. A 4 point difference is all that kept them from winning this round. They then went through to round 4 where they were placed 7 th overall in the Western Cape. We are very proud of them for such an immense achievement. Well done!
