1 FILLARI AND CAVENEY NAMED GOLF ALL-AMERICA SCHOLARS (5/28) WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Washington & Jefferson College seniors Joe Caveney (Warwood, W.Va./Park) {below right} and Marc Fillari (Blackwood, N.J./Highland) {left} were both recently announced as Division III Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Men s Golf Scholars. A total of 42 Division III men s golfers were selected to the team which recognizes juniors or seniors who maintained a stroke average under 79.0 and a minimum 3.20 cumulative grade-point average. Stroke averages were submitted prior to the start of the NCAA Tournament. Fillari and Caveney helped the Presidents record their best finish at the NCAA Division III Men s Golf Championship Tournament earlier this month after notching 14th place of 36 teams. W&J made the cut as a team for the first time in school history and recorded a 73-over par score of 1,225 ( ) during the four rounds. Fillari tied for 100th place individually at the national championships with a total of 317 strokes ( ), while Caveney tied for 108th place with 321 shots ( ). CaveneyThe senior duo helped Washington & Jefferson claim five team tournaments during the season, including the school s 14th Presidents Athletic Conference Championship. Fillari earned All-PAC laurels for the fourth consecutive year after tying for eighth place following rounds of 78 and 76, while Caveney placed 23rd with scores of 79 and 87. Caveney, who also recently earned ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District laurels, finished his senior year with a 79.1 stroke average in 24 rounds. Fillari played in all 26 rounds for the Presidents and averaged 77.4 strokes per 18 holes. W&J FINISHES 14TH AT NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS, TOPS IN PROGRAM HISTORY (5/15) 2009 PAC Champions PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - Washington & Jefferson College posted the best finish by any team in Presidents' Athletic Conference history after claiming 14th place of 36 teams following the final round of action on Saturday at the 2009 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships at the PGA Village. The Presidents shot a four-man total of 73-over par 1,225 ( ). Oglethorpe (Ga.) won the national championship with 1,164 strokes followed by La Verne (1,168), Methodist (1,171), Texas-Tyler (1,184) and Illinois Wesleyan (1,187). A total of 23 teams made the cut for the final two rounds, including the Presidents, who finished below the cut for the first time in school history.

2 Sophomore Brad Cieslinski (Natrona Hts., Pa./Highlands) recorded W&J's individual finish after tying for 34th place ( ). His national championship 34th-place showing is the best by a W&J golfer in school history. Junior John Williams (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) carded 75 strokes on Saturday and finished in a 42nd-place tie ( ). Senior Ryan Bashour (Grindstone, Pa./Brownsville) tied for 60th place with 307 shots ( ) and notched the Presidents' only under-par score on Thursday. Senior Marc Fillari (Blackwood, N.J./Highland) rounded out his career in 110th place ( ), while classmate Joe Caveney (Warwood, W.Va./Park) finished close behind in 108th place ( ). NCAA PRESIDENTS SHOOT 309 IN THIRD ROUND OF NCAA TOURNAMENT (5/15) PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The Washington & Jefferson College men's golf team carded 309 strokes on Friday during the third round of the 2009 NCAA Division III Championships at the PGA Village's Dye Course. W&J now has a 43-over par score of 907 ( ) and sits in 12th place out of the 23 remaining teams heading into Saturday's final round. Sophomore Brad Cieslinski (Natrona Hts., Pa./Highlands) carded a round of 75 Friday and remains as the Presidents' top individual in 26th place ( ). Senior Ryan Bashour (Grindstone, Pa./Brownsville) shot 78 and is tied for 57th place with 227 strokes ( ), while junior John Williams (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) is tied for 63rd place following a round of 79 ( ). Senior Marc Fillari (Blackwood, N.J./Highland) notched 80 strokes on Friday and is tied for 86th place ( ), while classmate Joe Caveney (Warwood, W.Va./Park) posted W&J's second-best round on the afternoon with 77 shots. He is currently tied for 93rd place with 235 strokes ( ). B. CieslinskiW&J MEN'S GOLF MAKES CUT AT NCAA TOURNAMENT; ENTERS THIRD ROUND TIED FOR 11TH PLACE (5/14) PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The Washington & Jefferson College men's golf team became the first team in Presidents' Athletic Conference history to make the cut at the NCAA Division III Championships following Thursday's second round at the PGA Village (Dye and Ryder courses). The top 23 teams in the 36-squad field qualify for the final two rounds.

3 The Presidents, who played the Ryder course Thursday, are tied for 11th place heading into the weekend's final two rounds and sit only 23 shots out of the lead. W&J shot 294 on Thursday and has posted a 22-over par score of 598 through the first two days. The Presidents are tied with Skidmore for 11th place. Washington & Jefferson's four-man score of 294 was the fourth-best round of the afternoon, trailing only tournament-leading La Verne (283), third-place Oglethorpe (284) and fourth-place Ohio Wesleyan (290). La Verne (575) holds a seven-stroke edge over day one leader Methodist (582). Oglethorpe (585), Ohio Wesleyan (591) and Texas-Tyler (593) round out the top five teams. Senior Ryan Bashour (Grindstone, Pa./Brownsville) carded his first under-par round of his collegiate career with a team-low score of 71 on Thursday. He posted 78 strokes on Wednesday and is tied for 36th place of 185 golfers with 149 strokes. Bashour was one of 12 players to break par during the second round. Sophomore Brad Cieslinski (Natrona Hts., Pa./Highlands) {above} is W&J's top individual after two rounds as he is tied for 19th place with 147 strokes (73-74). Junior John Williams (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) carded 73 strokes on Thursday and joins Bashour in a 36th place tie at 149 (76-73). Senior Marc Fillari (Blackwood, N.J./Highland) grinded out a round of 76 and is tied for 78th place (153), while classmate Joe Caveney (Warwood, W.Va./Park) carded 80 strokes and is tied for 117th place (158). Round three begins Friday morning. Tee times are expected to be released Thursday evening. NCAAPRESIDENTS SIT IN 21ST PLACE AFTER DAY ONE AT NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS (5/13) PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Washington & Jefferson College sits in 21st place of 36 teams following the opening round of the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship Tournament on Wednesday at the PGA Village. The Presidents carded a four-man score of 304 and trail top-ranked Methodist by 25 strokes. MC shot a nine-under par score of 279. St. John's (Minn.) is second with 288 strokes, while Texas- Tyler and Skidmore are tied for third with 291 shots. Sophomore Brad Cieslinski (Natrona Heights, Pa./Highlands) posted W&J's top finish and is currently tied for 32nd place after a round of 73. John Williams (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) is tied for 69th place after shooting 76, while senior Marc Fillari (Blackwood, N.J./Highland) recorded 77 strokes and is tied for 89th place.

4 Seniors Ryan Bashour (Grindstone, Pa./Brownsville) and Joe Caveney (Warwood, W.Va./Park) both shot 78 and are tied for 105th place. The full tournament field consists of 185 golfers. Day two of the national tournament for W&J begins Thursday at 7:50 am. Fillari 2009W&J CAPTURES 2009 ROSSIN MEMORIAL (4/27) CANONSBURG, Pa. -- Senior Marc Fillari (Blackwood, N.J./Highland) {right} carded a score of 149 (74-75) to help the Washington & Jefferson College men s golf team win the Sixth Annual Peter C. Rossin Memorial Collegiate Men s Golf Classic on Monday afternoon at Southpointe Golf Club. The victory was the third Peter C. Rossin Memorial Collegiate Classic championship for W&J. The Presidents also won two-day event in 2006 and The Presidents shot 303 on Sunday and followed with 306 strokes on Monday to win by 36 shots over the Washington & Jefferson B team (645). Lake Erie College and Penn State-Behrend tied for third with 668 strokes, while Mercyhurst (672) rounded out the five team field. Fillari earned medalist honors in the 27-golfer field by one stroke over Mercyhurst s Tyler Bidwell, who shot 150 (75-75). W&J senior Ryan Bashour (Grindstone, Pa./Brownsville) and sophomore John Williams (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) tied for third with 152 shots, while W&J sophomore Ken Porembka (Youngstown, Ohio/Latrobe) competed on the B team and rounded out the top five with a twoday total of 156 (78-78). Washington & Jefferson sophomore Brad Cieslinski (Natrona Heights, Pa./Highlands) earned a sixth-place finish with 158 strokes (80-78), while senior Joe Caveney (Warwood, W.Va./Park) rounded out the event for the championship squad with 160 (78-82). Senior Ken Kasmir (Columbia, Md./Howard) finished in eighth place with 162 strokes (80-82), while junior Jaysn Valentine (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) concluded the list of top ten finishers for W&J with a score of 163 (86-77). Sophomore E.J. Morascyzk (Washington, Pa./Trinity) claimed an 18th-place finish with 171 shots (89-82) and freshman Brad Killmeyer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) grabbed 22nd place with 177 strokes (82-95) to close out the five-man total for the B squad. W&J freshmen Andrew Tang (Evans City, Pa./ Seneca Valley) and Peter Petrides (Steubenville, Ohio/Steubenville) competed as individuals and finished the day at 11th and 19th overall, respectively. Tang carded 165 strokes (83-82), while Petrides posted a two-day total of 172 following back-to-back rounds of 86.

5 The Presidents will be idle for the next two weeks as they prepare to compete at the 2009 NCAA Division III Championships at the PGA Village in Port St. Lucie, Florida. The first day of the four-day tournament begins on Wednesday, May 13th. The Presidents are making their second consecutive trip to the national championships after placing 24th of 35 teams last season. W&J MEN'S GOLF CLAIMS 14TH PAC TITLE (4/21) 2009 PAC Champions WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. - Washington & Jefferson College won its fourth consecutive Presidents' Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championship on Tuesday at Oak Tree Country Club. With the victory, W&J earns the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.(May 13-16) at the PGA Village in Port St. Lucie, Florida. The Presidents, who have now won 14 PAC men's golf titles throughout history, totaled 1,184 strokes during the series which determines the conference champion. Two rounds are played in the fall and 36 holes count in the spring. Monday's first round was limited to nine holes, forcing competitors to play 27 holes today. W&J took a 24-stroke advantage in the fall and posted a team-low total of 607 ( ) during the past two days to win the title. First-year Head Coach Sean Dove was selected as the PAC Coach of the Year. Thomas More placed second overall with 1,212 strokes. The Saints posted 603 strokes in the fall and 609 over the past two days. Westminster (1,225), Grove City (1,264), Bethany (1,400) and Thiel (1,432) rounded out the standings. Waynesburg was disqualified and Saint Vincent (1,217) was ineligible for the PAC Championship due to its NCAA Division III provisional status. Joe Ruzick of Thomas More earned the PAC Player of the Year Award after defeating W&J sophomore Brad Cieslinski (Natrona Heights, Pa./Highlands) {below second from left} in a playoff. Both players carded 147 strokes. Cieslinski was last year's PAC Medalist. Junior John Williams (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) {below far left} joined Cieslinski on the First Team All-PAC squad after tying for fourth place with 151 strokes (77-74) PAC First Team Senior Marc Fillari (Blackwood, N.J./Highland) tied for eighth place and earned Second Team All-PAC accolades. Fillari notched a two-day score of 154 (78-76). Senior Ryan Bashour (Grindstone, Pa./Brownsville) was also a Second Team All-PAC honoree after tying for 11th place. Bashour shot 78 in his first 18 holes and 77 on the final 18 to record 155 strokes.

6 Seniors Joe Caveney (Warwood, W.Va./Park) rounded out the W&J competitors in 23rd place with 166 shots (79-87). Washington & Jefferson hosts the Peter C. Rossin Memorial Sunday and Monday at Southpointe Golf Club in its final tune-up before the NCAA Championships. W&J MEN'S GOLF TAKES THIRD AT SAINT VINCENT (4/16) LATROBE, Pa. - Washington & Jefferson College shot a four-man score of 323 to place third of 15 teams on Thursday at the Saint Vincent Men's Golf Invitational at Latrobe Country Club. The Presidents finished behind Clarion (304) and Saint Vincent "A" (314) in the standings. Allegheny and Saint Vincent "B" tied for fourth place with 325 strokes, while West Liberty State (326), Westminster (326), Grove City (328), California, Pa. (331), Waynesburg (337), Seton Hill (340), Slippery Rock (351), Mercyhurst (361), Pitt-Greensburg (373) and Thiel (395) rounded out the standings. Washington & Jefferson was led by sophomore Brad Cieslinski (Natrona Heights, Pa./Highlands), who tied for 10th place in the 74-man field with 79 strokes. Senior Marc Fillari (Blackwood, N.J./Highland) tied for 16th place with 80 shots. Seniors Joe Caveney (Warwood, W.Va./Park) and Ryan Bashour (Grindstone, Pa./Brownsville) both shot 82 to tie for 26th place and junior John Williams (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) carded 86 strokes to tie for 45th place. Saint Vincent's Doug Mehall shot a one-under par score of 71 to earn medalist honors. W&J will now prepare for the two-day 2009 PAC Championships which begin Monday at Oak Tree Country Club. Fillari 2009PRESIDENTS SWEEP PAC WEEKLY GOLF AWARDS FOR SECOND TIME IN 2009 (4/13) WASHINGTON, Pa. For the second time this season, the Washington & Jefferson College men s and women s golf teams swept the Presidents Athletic Conference Player of the Week awards released by the conference office on Monday afternoon. Junior Leslie Walker (Laurel, Md./Atholton) earned the women s award for the second time this season, while senior Marc Fillari (Blackwood, N.J./Highland) received the men s honor.

7 Fillari received the weekly men s award after earning medalist honors at the CMU Edward Jones Shootout with a two-day score of 147. He tied teammate Joe Caveney (Warwood, W.Va./Park), but was declared the champion after winning the tiebreaker. He also posted a second place finish at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Invitational (4/5-4/6) in Hershey, Pa., carding a two-day score of 151. The men s squad brought home the team title at the CMU Edward Jones Shootout with a twoday score of 600 and tied for first place at the Mid-Atlantic Regional with Carnegie Mellon with identical 614 scores, but the Tartans were declared the team champion after winning the fifthman tiebreaker. The Presidents' first-place tie finish marks the best finish in school history at the regional event. Walker earned medalist honors last Monday at the 2009 W&J Invitational held at Southpointe Golf Club, following a round of 82. W&J won the three-team tournament after carding an overall score of 389. The W&J women s team is competing at the Westminster Invitational today (4/13) and will travel to Saint Vincent on Wednesday for the SVC Invitational, while the men s squad will travel to Saint Vincent on Thursday for the men s Invitational. Fillari, M.W&J WINS JONES SHOOTOUT; FILLARI EARNS MEDALIST AWARD(4/12) APOLLO, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College men's golf team fired a second-day score of 297 on Sunday to claim the team championship at the CMU Edward Jones Men s Golf Shootout hosted at The Links of Spring Church. The Presidents carded a team score of 600 ( ) to edge Carnegie Mellon ( ) by three strokes. Rochester placed third with 615 strokes ( ), while Penn State-Altoona (626), Westminster (655), Penn State-Behrend (665) and La Roche (674) rounded out the standings. Senior Marc Fillari (Blackwood, N.J./Highland) won a tiebreaker to earn medalist honors as he tied for first place with his teammate, senior Joe Caveney (Warwood, W.Va./Park). Both players carded seven-par scores of 147. Fillari followed yesterday's round of 76 with a 71 on Sunday, the low round of the day. Caveney notched the low round of the tournament Saturday with an even-par score of 70 and racked up 77 strokes Sunday. Sophomore Brad Cieslinski (Natrona Heights, Pa./Highlands) tied for eighth overall with 153 strokes (78-75), while senior Ryan Bashour (Grindstone, Pa./Brownsville) tied for 11th place. Bashour totaled 81 strokes on Saturday, but followed with a round of 74 Sunday. Junior John Williams (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) rounded out the W&J competitors in 15th place with 157 shots (79-78).

W&J SECOND AFTER DAY ONE AT CMU JONES SHOOTOUT (4/11) APOLLO, Pa. -- Washington & Jefferson College sits in second place after the first day of action on Saturday at the Carnegie Mellon University Edward Jones Men s Golf Shootout hosted at The Links of Spring Church. CMU leads the standings in the two-day event with a four-man score of 295. W&J is second with 303 strokes, while Penn State-Altoona is third at 308 shots. W&J senior Joe Caveney (Warwood, W.Va./Park) leads the individual standings following a career-low round of 70. Classmate Marc Fillari (Blackwood, N.J./Highland) posted a round of 76, while sophomore Brad Cieslinski (Natrona Heights, Pa./Highlands) totaled 78 shots. Junior John Williams (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) shot 79 and senior Ryan Bashour (Grindstone, Pa./Brownsville) carded 81 strokes. The final day of competition at the annual event begins Sunday morning. Fillari W&J TIES FOR TEAM TITLE AT HERSHEY (4/5) HERSHEY, Pa. -- Washington & Jefferson College tied Carnegie Mellon for the team title at the Mid-Atlantic Region Tournament following the final day of action on Monday at Hershey Country Club. He recorded W&J's best score on Sunday with 74 strokes and shot 81 on Monday.

9 Sophomore Brad Cieslinski (Natrona Heights, Pa./Highlands) totaled 158 shots (80-78), while sophomore Ken Porembka (Youngstown, Pa./Latrobe) finished with 164 strokes (79-85). Final individual standings will be available on Tuesday. W&J continues its spring schedule this weekend (Saturday-Sunday) at the two-day CMU Invitational. W&J HOLDS OPENING ROUND LEAD AT MID-ATLANTIC REGIONAL (4/5) HERSHEY, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College men's golf team holds the first-round lead at the 2009 Mid-Atlantic Region Tournament at Hershey Country Club. The Presidents posted 304 strokes and lead Carnegie Mellon by two strokes. Allegheny and McDaniel are five strokes behind in third place. A total of 15 teams are competing at the regional event. Senior Joe Caveney (Warwood, W.Va./Park) shot 74 to lead the Presidents' five. Junior John Williams (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) posted 75 strokes, while senior Marc Fillari (Blackwood, N.J./Highland) notched a round of 76. Sophomore Ken Porembka (Youngstown, Pa./Latrobe) carded 79 strokes, while classmate Brad Cieslinski (Natrona Heights, Pa./Highlands) netted 80 strokes. The final round of the tournament begins Monday morning. B. CieslinskiW&J SWEEPS PAC WEEKLY GOLF AWARDS (3/31) WASHINGTON, Pa. The Washington & Jefferson College men s and women s golf teams swept the Presidents Athletic Conference Player of the Week awards released by the conference office on Monday afternoon. Junior Leslie Walker (Laurel, Md./Atholton) earned the women s award, while sophomore Brad Cieslinski (Natrona Heights, Pa./Highland) {right} received the men s honor. Cieslinski s garnered the weekly men s award after placing 71st in a 150-man field at the Jekyll Island Intercollegiate Invitational in Georgia over spring break. He posted three sub-80 stroke rounds ( ) to total a 20-over par score of 236. The men s squad finished the three-day event 21st out of 27 teams with a three-day score of 956. Walker earned medalist honors last Saturday at the Grove City Invitational held at the Grove City Country Club, following a round of 86. W&J won the six-team tournament after carding a four-person score of 377. She also placed 64th out of 128 golfers at the Jekyll Island

10 Intercollegiate Invitational in Georgia on March 22nd, finishing the three-day event with 272 total strokes ( ). The W&J men s team will return to action this weekend when competing at the Mid-Atlantic Regional in Hershey, Pa., while the women s squad will host the W&J Invitational on Monday afternoon at Southpointe Golf Club. W&J GOLF CONCLUDES THREE-DAY JEKYLL ISLAND INVITATIONAL (3/22) JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. - The Washington & Jefferson College men's golf team placed 21st of 27 teams, while the women's squad competed as individuals this past weekend at the Jekyll Island Intercollegiate Invitational. The W&J men shot a three-day score of 956 (+92) to place 21st. The Presidents shot 318 on Friday and followed with back-to-back rounds of 319 on Saturday and Sunday. Huntingdon (Ala.) won the tournament with a team score of even-par 864. Methodist (872) placed second, while Oglethorpe (863), Illinois Wesleyan (874) and Rhodes (908) rounded out the top five teams. Mack Duke of Huntingdon won the men's medalist award with a six-under par score of 210 ( ). Jessica Urban of Wiscosin-Stevens Point won the women's tournament with 238 shots ( ). The women's squad had three players competing in the tournament led by senior Alison Lazorchak (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney), who backed up her strong fall season with an 17th-place finish of 128 golfers. She shot 85 and 91 during the first two days and then tied for the second-lowest Sunday round with 77 strokes. Lazorchak's three-day total was 253 (+37). Junior Leslie Walker (Laurel, Md./Atholton) tied for 64th place with 272 strokes ( ), while senior Marianne Mitchen (Mogadore, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban) claimed 109th place with 302 strokes ( ). The men's team was paced by sophomore Brad Cieslinski's (Natrona Heights, Pa./Highlands) 71st-place finish in a 150-man field. He posted three sub-80 stroke rounds ( ) to total a 20-over par score of 236. Senior Marc Fillari (Blackwood, N.J./Highland) tied for 84th place with 238 strokes ( ), while classmate Ryan Bashour (Grindstone, Pa./Brownsville) tied for 111th place with 245 ( ). Senior Joe Caveney (Warwood, W.Va./Park) also tied Bashour's total ( ) and junior John Williams (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) rounded out W&J's competitors in 118th place ( ).

11 The Washington & Jefferson men will now prepare for the Mid-Atlantic Regional in Hershey, Pa., in two weeks (Apr. 5-6), while the women will play at Grove City next Monday (Mar. 28). W&J MEN'S GOLF WRAPS UP FALL SEASON WITH FIFTH-PLACE FINISH (10/20) ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Washington & Jefferson College men's golf team closed its fall season on Monday after recording a fifth-place finish at the two-day Muhlenberg College Fall Invitational at the Center Valley Club. Trinity (Conn.) won the team competition with a 43-over-par team score of 611 ( ). Muhlenberg placed second with 627 strokes ( ), while Allegheny ( ), Saint Vincent ( ) and W&J ( ) rounded out the top five squads. Lafayette (647), Moravian (651), Swarthmore (682), Hobart (684), Neumann (686), Penn State- Harrisburg (689) and Ursinus (711) also participated in the 12-team tournament. Senior Marc Fillari (Blackwood, N.J./Highland) led the Presidents after tying for ninth place (158) following back-to-back rounds of 79. Allegheny's Kyle Jastromb carded 150 strokes (77-73) to claim medalist honors. W&J GOLF SQUADS COMPETE IN NEW YORK (10/6) PITTSFORD, N.Y. - The Washington & Jefferson College men's and women's golf teams continued their fall seasons Sunday and Monday at the Nazareth College Invitational. The men's team placed fourth of five teams following Monday's final round, while the women's squad garnered fifth place of six teams. Allegheny won both team championships, carding 661 strokes ( ) on the women's side and 612 shots ( ) in the men's tournament.
