1 CELEBRATING 25 YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF IN AMERICA Albany Chapter - American Singles Golf Association August 2017 President s Message It is hard to believe that September is upon us and, alas, those long days of no golf.. will soon be here. ALL the more reason to take advantage of every opportunity coming up!! Not only has Jack Dennis provided us with a chance to play at beautiful Wolfert s Roost, but Sandy and her Informal Golf Committee have been offering many other options to get out and enjoy the golf and camaraderie. Meanwhile, our multi chapter outing at Cooperstown is just around the bend, September 22 nd -24 th. We have close to 60 participants from Hartford, Boston, and ASGA chapters throughout the county joining us at the gorgeous Ostesaga Resort and Leatherstocking on Saturday. Deb has our final Formal outing and banquet set at Van Patten for Sunday, October 8 th so plan not to miss that.. Jack Aernecke volunteered to look into booking our Derby Day at Stadium in 2018 Deb reported that Brian Wallace volunteered to assist to plan the formal events for Bob Doyle and Kathryn Henningson also offered their assistance. Informals: Issues at Fairways at Halfmoon recently - 30 minute delay from tee times Informal Committee should share in the responsibilities and duties - they will discuss with Informal Chair lead Sandy Kunz. Cooperstown: Ellen gave a summary of the events to the group. Looking for all Albany Chapter attendees to be ambassadors. New Business: Discussed new golfers and how tee boxes are now trending to not be gender specific but rather according to abilities. Deb will put some wording together to help with newer golfers that join our group. Meet Up: Jack lead a discussion on Meet Up and how to prevent people from thinking they can just sign up there and not go to the website or send an to the ASGA gmail account. River Cruise - Paris, France, September 11-18, This will be a river cruise up the Seine River. We'd like to spend days in France. Dates for the 2018 Ryder Cup are September 28-30, 2018 but this river cruise itinerary will not be timed to coincide with the Ryder Cup. Our chapter currently has 50 members. Western Turnpike Formal Golf Outing - August 13th The weather was beautiful and the course was in nice shape. Green everywhere!! We had our largest turn out this season with 27 golfers and 7 teams. Dinner followed golf at Tesoro's Italian Restaurant just down the road from the course. The service was a little slow but it seemed most didn't mind. There was laughing and talking at every table. Prizes and winners were as follows: 1st Place: Team 3 with a 68 Capt Ray Frederick, Brian Struwe, Helene Chapados, Diane Rootes 2nd Place: Team 7 with a 72 Capt Tony Millillo, Dottie Daly and Tom Bourke Closest to Pin Red 7: Bob Werner and Helene Chapados Closest to Pin Red 9: Joe Candee - no winner for women Long Drive: Brian Struwe and Dottie Daly 50/50 Winner: Tony Millillo $65 Next formal event is at Van Patten October 8th. 8 FIRST FRIDAY HAPPY HOUR: A nice turnout at the latest First Friday Happy Hour, Rita made arrangements for us to gather at Romano s on Wolf Road in Colonie. It was the start of the Labor Day Weekend so that probably kept turnout down a bit but still lots of conversation, and personal pizzas. We look forward to our next First Friday! This is a location that most of the members of our western chapters of ASGA can get to easily. Carson City is home of The Devine Nine, and is located 30 minutes south of the Reno-Tahoe Airport. 15 ASGA CARSON CITY CLASSIC October 6th - 8th, 2017 Every year the Sacramento Chapter hosts a weekend golf outing and invites the rest of the country to come out and enjoy some great golf with us. After a successful trip to Monterey last year, we are once again headed to the high country in Carson City for this year s outing. This is a location that most of the members of western chapters of ASGA can get to easily. Carson City is home of The Devine Nine, and is located 30 minutes south of the Reno-Tahoe Airport. This year it is the Devine 10, as a private club has joined the group on certain occasions and we are happy to include it in our event. Except in the event of any gross and willful negligence, I shall bring no claims, demands, actions and causes of action, and/or litigation, against Releasees for any economic and non-economic losses due to bodily injury, death, property damage, sustained by me in relation to the premises and operations of the golf course, including riding on golf carts or playing the game of golf. I am aware that participation in and/or observance of the golf activities and/or other activities sponsored by Releasees is or may be an inherently dangerous activity and may have health-related risks, and agree that I am voluntarily participating in and/or observing such activities with full knowledge of all dangers and risks involved. In addition, I hereby expressly assume all risks of injury, death, property loss, property damage, and other loss and damage which my occur relative to the participation in and/or observance of such activities.
