1 LAKE VIEW COUNTRY CLUB BOARD OF DIRECTORS PRESIDENT Jim Weinheimer Vice PRESIDENT Gus Maas SECRETARY Gus Maas/ Mary Sue Longnecker TREASURER Dr. Gary Brown Ray Massing Chuck Ollinger COMMITTEES HOUSE / SOCIAL Chair: Chuck Ollinger Jim Bahm Mary Sue Longnecker GREENS Chair: Ray Massing Jerry Cass Jim Weinheimer MEMBERSHIP Chair: Gus Maas STAFF ATTORNEY Frank Kroto GM/PGA GOLF PROFESSIONAL Steve Crane CERTIFIED GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT Gordon Seliga FOOD & BEVERAGE DIRECTOR Megan Kehl NORTH EAST, PENNSYLVANIA From the President Green is my favorite color. It s the color of envy. It s the color of money. More importantly, right now it s the color of your golf course. Yes, it took awhile, but summertime is finally here. It never lasts long enough so be sure to take advantage of every opportunity to get some exercise and share some laughs. Our golf course and clubhouse are now fully operational and our staff welcomes the increased activity. Our recent recruitment night was well attended and plans are in the works to repeat the event this fall. Many thanks to all members that participated in the event as the evening provided many memorable and entertaining moments. And yes, the golf was fun as well. I would also like to pass along one final thank you to all of you that helped to renovate the grill room facility this past spring. Your labor, your donations, your support, and your appreciation for what has been accomplished have not been overlooked. Your involvement shows the great pride we take in our facility. Our membership may be limited in size, but your level of commitment and resourcefulness is most certainly unmatched. I wish you all the best this golf season. 2 Father s Day June 21st This Father s Day, be sure to stop into the grill room after your round of golf, where we will treat Dad to a free beverage of his choice. New Flagpole Hopefully you have all seen the new flagpole overlooking our beautiful golf course. For much of last year, our beloved Old Glory didn t fly, inasmuch as the flagpole became inoperable in midseason. I knew I had to do something. Why? Well, as some of you know, I was born on Flag Day (a state holiday in PA), so I have always had a special devotion to our flag. The cost? Only a little more than $1 a month for the nearly 500 months I ve been a golf member at Lake View! All I ask in return is that each time you see the flag, please remember a man or woman who has served in our armed forces to protect our many freedoms. 4 From the Pro Shop Steve Crane, Golf Professional Coming Events ANNUAL DUES PAYERS who paid in full by January 31 can pick up your free green fee passes in the pro shop. CRANE S TIP Good posture can be the key to a good swing. Many players bend their knees too much at address which reduces the ability to use your legs. To achieve good posture, stand erect with your club in hand. Keep your back straight and bend over from the waist until your club hits the ground. Now, slightly bend your knees. Make sure your weight is on the balls of your feet. If not, you may have to move closer or farther away until you feel it. ETIQUETTE TIP Care for your course! Please replace all divots and repair ball marks properly. Obey cart sign regulations. Walkers with push carts should always walk around the bunkers and not between the bunker and the green. Pick up broken tees and trash. HANDICAP TIDBITS A player s Handicap Index may be reduced when a player has a minimum of two eligible tournament score differentials that are at least 3.0 better than the player s calculated Handicap Index. If this occurs, an R appears next to your index. The computer automatically makes this adjustment. Tournament scores remain in your record for one year. JUNIOR LESSONS Thursday mornings June 11, 18, 25, July 2, & 9 Tournament and picnic is July 16. Assistant Professionals Joe Alonge and Rick Schriefer conduct the clinics. Pick your own partner. Entry fee is $15 per person. Tee times 11:00 12:00. MEN S MEMBER-MEMBER Saturday and Sunday, June The competitive event of the year. Pick your own partner for this match play tournament. The field is split into flights of six teams based on total handicap. Each team will play a nine hole better ball match against every team in their flight. Teams receive one point for a tie, two points for a win, three points if you win three up, or four points for a four up win. Total points from all matches determine the winners. Flight winners participate in a Shootout at the conclusion of the matches. Play 27 holes on Saturday and 18 on Sunday. Entry fee is $40 per person (includes a Saturday lunch) plus $25 for a cash pool. There will be separate flights for players using the white tees. All players in a flight will play from the same tees. Both players on a team must play from the same tees. MEN S MEMBER GUEST STAG Wednesday, June 10 Two man teams must consist of one member and one guest. (Note: a social member may be either a member or a guest.) The entry fee of $160 includes your guest s green fee, a buffet soup and sandwich lunch, beverages on the course, one of Rob s special dinners, and prizes for the Best Ball Tournament. Tournament winners are based on handicap scores. (There are special prizes for scratch scores). Carts and Skin games are not included in the entry fee. Lunch at 12:00, 1:00 shotgun start. RULES QUESTION May a player declare his ball unplayable in a bunker? ANSWER: Yes, Rule 28 lists your options: The player may under penalty of one stroke: a. Proceed under the stroke and distance provision of Rule 27-1 by playing a ball as nearly as possible at the spot from which the original ball was last played. b. Drop a ball behind the point where the ball lay, keeping that point directly between the hole and the spot on which the ball is dropped, with no limit as to how far behind that point the ball may be dropped. c. Drop a ball within two club lengths of where the ball lay but not nearer the hole. If the unplayable lie is in a bunker and player elects option b or c, a ball must be dropped in the bunker.

6 Lake View Country Club 8351 Station Road PO Box 468 North East, PA SCOTCH SCRAMBLE Let s try it again. Years ago, this was one of our most successful tournaments. Lately, I have had a few requests to bring it back. The tournament teams consist of four couples. Players of all abilities are welcome. This tournament is about having fun. The format has one gender (men) teeing off and the best shot is selected (Scramble). From this point the other gender; (ladies) play the second shot (Scotch). The men play the third shot and the ladies the fourth, etc. Men tee off on odd number holes, ladies on even number holes. $45 entry fee includes a sit down dinner after golf. Guests invited. Entry fee does not include cart fees. 1:00 Shotgun start. A The Friday Night Rumble Mens 9 hole team Scramble begins June 12. Blind draw for A, B, C, & D players (or A,B,C depending on numbers) Gross scores only Entry- $ 20 a man, This is a total cash game, $10 for the low nine hole score of the night, the other $10 is for a skins game. If no skins are won, the money carries over to the following week, with the thought that the larger the skin pot more people will play. Everyone would ante up again the following week. 5:30 shotgun, play your afternoon 18 and then join in. Beverage cart will be out. HOLE IN ONE Jon Myrick May 23, 2015 Hole # yards, 3 wood A
