1 2014 M.D.O.T. GOLF LEAGUE FORMAT website = This league is operated as a loosely structured social organization dedicated to the concept that golf courses should consist of nineteen holes. Our league tees off from 3:54 to 4:58 this year, at 5:06 the league behind us will start even if we are not all off the tee. Whoever has not teed off will lose their tee time. WE NEED TO BE PROMPT IN REGARD TO OUR SCHEDULED TEE TIMES EACH NIGHT. YOU MUST TEE OFF ON TIME AND KEEP YOUR ROUND TO A MAX. TIME OF 2 HRS 15 MIN. STARTING DATE AND FEE INFORMATION: Opening night for the 2014 golf league is scheduled for Monday, April 28. League play will be at the El Dorado Golf Course, W. Howell Road, Mason MI 48854, telephone number (517) We will continue to alternate red, white, and blue nines through the season. We will play 18 nights, taking off the May 26 & Sept 1 and finish on September 8. You will be held to your tee time which is on the official schedule ( See the schedule link on the website ). This is what their starter will be using and expect us to follow. If you can not make your tee time you will need to notify Mike Irwin or Jim Jersey as well as your opponents ahead of time. Mike and Jim are the league representatives and it will be through them that you will get the rain check that will allow you to play your league match at a time other than your official scheduled time. Mike or Jim will give out the rain checks in the event of bad weather or other conflicts at the course on the Monday night of the scheduled match, therefore you or your representative will need to be at the course to pick them up. Tee times missed without prior notification are tee times lost. League Fees will be $ per person ( DUE APRIL 18, 2014 by 5:00 pm ). The fees will be used to cover nightly green fees, nightly prizes, the year end outing, trophies and any other league expenses. TEAMS WITH DELINQUENT DUES WILL BE UNABLE TO WIN ANY POINTS. THE OPPOSING TEAM WILL BE AWARDED A FORFEIT. Fee Breakdown Dues $ $ Green Fees $ $ Outing $75.00 $72.00 Nightly Prizes $11.00 $14.06 Trophies $7.00 $8.89 Expenses $6.00 $7.75 FINAL STANDINGS: There will be trophies awarded for first and second place, which will be determined by a playoff at seasons end of the teams winning each half of the season. The playoff will consist of a nine hole match based on 21 points (SAME AS REGULAR NIGHT SCORING). Ties for first place after the first half and second half will also be decided by a nine hole match as above. If the year-end playoff results in a tie after the prescribed nine holes it shall be broken with a sudden death playoff. (Scoring hole points the same as a regular night match). NO SUBSTITUTIONS WILL BE ALLOWED FOR TIEBREAKERS OR PLAYOFFS.

If you can t make a tee time then you need to get with Mike or Jim AHEAD of time so they can inform the course and obtain a rain check for you. You will need to get this rain check from Mike or Jim to present to the course when you make up your match. Rain checks are good Monday through Friday and after 4:00 PM on the weekends. As always you will also need to reserve a tee time for your makeup. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO GET THE SCORES TO JIM JERSEY (517) , BY THE ABOVE DEADLINE. IF YOU CALL IN YOUR SCORES, GIVE JIM THE OFFICIAL SCORE CARD THE FOLLOWING REGULARLY SCHEDULED NIGHT. League policy on rescheduling your round of golf. Call a member of the team you will be playing and inform them your team will be unable to make the scheduled tee time. If you are able to find an acceptable tee time, within the time frame discussed above that both teams can play, inform Mike or Jim so they can secure your rain checks. If you are unable to find a tee time, where both teams can play, then the team who CAN make the scheduled tee time has the final say if their opponents can golf outside of the scheduled match and match scorecards. If you have called all the opposing team members, and cannot get ahold of them then you may try ing them. However, an is not official notification that you will not be able to make the scheduled tee time. If you did not receive a reply to your or phone call consider yourself on the hook to find a sub or to show up for your scheduled tee time. If you are unable to do either then you will forfeit the match, If your team chooses to forfeit the match please inform the team you are playing as well as Mike or Jim. To Summarize: It is not the League Officers responsibility to inform teams if their opponents will be showing up for the scheduled match or not. Missed tee times will result in a forfeit unless teams are properly informed. 4.) A trophy will be awarded to the most improved golfer ( min of 12 matches played ) based on the difference from the final average compared to the average carried over from the previous season.

5 AREAS OF THE GOLF COURSE 1.) OUT OF BOUNDS: Out of bounds are designated by white stakes. If the ball is hit out of bounds, the player should drop the ball approximately two club lengths from the boundary at the point of exit, or anywhere on the line of flight. If you overshoot the green and go out of bounds, you either play the ball from the point of the original shot or drop approximately two club lengths in from the point of exit and add one stroke. Example: If a ball is struck out of bounds from the tee, the player is hitting three (laying two) after the drop. 2.) HAZARDS: Include sand traps and areas defined by red or yellow stakes. If your ball falls in a hazard, and you decide to strike it, you may not move the ball, ground your club, or remove debris from around the ball. If your ball falls in a hazard and you decide not to strike it, (that is, YOU call it unplayable) you may move it back (no closer to the pin) on either the line of entry (red stakes), or back keeping the hazard between you and the pin. You must add one stroke and drop the ball. If a sand trap is deemed unfit for play by the foursome, the ball must be dropped within one club length behind the trap,(no PENALTY). You are allowed a free drop (elsewhere in the trap) on a ball found in a footprint in the trap. 3.) FAIRWAY: You may move the ball with your club head to a more comfortable lie, but no closer to the pin and NO MORE THAN SIX INCHES. WINTER RULES: You may improve your lie anywhere on the golf course except in a hazard. You must use your club head (NOT YOUR HANDS) to move the ball. 4.) CASUAL WATER: (a): If a ball in a sand trap is in casual water, or causes the player to stand in casual water when he/she takes their stance, the ball may be dropped elsewhere in the trap, and if possible, not closer to the hole;(b): If the trap is filled with water to the point where the ball cannot be dropped elsewhere in the trap without creating a condition in (a), the ball may be dropped within one club length behind the trap with NO PENALTY INCURRED. 5.) GROUND UNDER REPAIR: Existing areas of dirt where grass will eventually or would normally be growing shall be played as ground under repair. You may at your choice move the ball off the dirt to the nearest grass area (no closer to the hole) to hit with NO PENALTY INCURRED. **PLEASE REPAIR DIVOTS, RAKE TRAPS, AND REPAIR BALL MARKS**

6 HANDICAP 1.) An established player's first night handicap will be determined by subtracting 36 (regardless of the nine being played ) from last year's final league average (final average based on whole year), using 90%. A minimum of THREE rounds in the league last year by regulars or substitutes will be needed to avoid the need to re-establish your handicap. 2.) A new player's/substitute s handicap will be determined by taking 80% of the difference between the score they shoot and 36 for the first three nights that they play. 3.) An established player's average for the second night will be the first night's score and last year's average divided by two. 4.) An established player's average for the third night will be the first two nights and last year's average divided by three. 5.) An established player's average for the fourth night will be the average of the first three nights scores. 6.) An established player's average for the fifth night will be the average of the three lowest scores of the first four nights. 7.) An established player's average for the sixth and all following nights will be determined by taking the last five scores, eliminating the high score and the low score and averaging the other three scores. 8.) A new player's handicap for the fourth and all following nights will be 90% of the difference between his average and ) All decimals will be dropped in computing averages and handicaps.

7 SCORING Please use the official score card which will be with the weekly standings sheets at the Pro Shop counter each night The lowest handicap player of the foursome will start the match with zero handicap. The other three players in the foursome will subtract the lowest player's handicap and assign the difference as handicap strokes on the holes. There is an example of how they should be filled out on the main page of the Website. Scoring is be based on a possible 21 points for each scheduled match. Of these 21 points, 18 shall be determined by the play on the holes and 3 shall be determined by the winners of the low team net total. There shall be 2 points possible for each hole. One point being determined by the team member who has the lowest net on the hole (best ball), and one point being determined by the team having the lowest total net on the hole. In case of ties in either instance, both teams shall receive one-half point. The handicaps shall be applied to the holes as they are handicapped on the scorecard. These strokes shall be divided as follows: Maximum three strokes on the par five holes, maximum two strokes on the par four holes, and maximum one stroke on the par three holes. You should try to play every match or make arrangements for a sub. One member of the team must be present to avoid a forfeit. In case you cannot get a sub and only one player shows up he/she will be able to compete against the opposing team for the eighteen possible hole points determined by his/her net score on the hole compared to the lowest net of the 2 opponents score on the hole for the 2 points available and the three points for team total by using his/her partner's average without handicap. In the event that only one player from each team is present, they may compete for the full 21 points, i.e., playing for two points a hole and using their partner's average for the net team total. The rules will permit the use of a "Designated Sub" for periods when absence is known in advance. The name of the designated sub will have to be turned into the secretary ONE WEEK prior to the match for listing on the standings sheet. The sub will then be considered a member of the team for that night. Every effort should be made to discourage forfeits; however, in the event that this occasion should arise, the team present will be AWARDED 12 POINTS. The team that forfeits receives no points. It is your responsibility to score your own matches. There will be a current standing sheet along with each golfer s current handicap on the bulletin board in the clubhouse for your use if needed. SCORE CARDS NOT SCORED PRIOR TO BEING TURNED IN WILL RESULT IN NO POINTS FOR EITHER TEAM.
