Sphero Task Challenge #1 Color Grab Standards:: MAFS.7.SP.3.5 Understand that the probability of a chance event is a number between 0 and 1 that expresses the likelihood of the event occurring. Larger numbers indicate greater likelihood. 1. Use the ColorGrab app on the ipad. 2. Select the number of players and set your level of difficulty to normal. Set the point goal to When it s your turn look for your color on the ipad screen. Then pick up the Sphero when your color displays. 4. Select a teammate to record (see OneNote) the colors that appear on the screen each round. Then after 10 rounds, calculate the probability of each color appearing.

Sphero Task Challenge #1 Color Grab In the Classroom Ask students to graph the total points each team member scores. Then find the difference between the points between the highest and lowest scores. Calculate the mean, median, and mode for total points scored (in the whole class). What are your ideas?

Sphero Task Challenge #2 Draw and Drive: Geometric Shapes Standards:: MA.K.G.2.2 Identify, name, describe and sort basic twodimensional shapes such as squares, triangles, circles, rectangles, hexagons, and trapezoids. MAFS.1.G.1.2 Compose two-dimensional shapes (rectangles, squares, trapezoids, triangles, half-circles, and quartercircles) to create a composite shape, and compose new shapes from the composite shape. 1. Use the Draw&Drive app on the ipad. 2. The teammate with the shortest hair will draw a shape on the screen (without letting anyone else see the ipad). Hint: draw a SMALL shape! 3. The Sphero will trace the shape on the floor, and the other teammates will guess the shape. 4. Repeat and take turns drawing a shape.

Sphero Task Challenge #2 Draw and Drive: Geometric Shapes In the Classroom Ask students to draw a shape with the Sphero that has a certain perimeter and/or area. What are your ideas?

Sphero Task Challenge #3 Sphero Lessons 1. Look through the lessons and decide which (if any) you could use in your classroom. 2. Post your ideas on the Padlet wall.

Sphero Task Challenge #4 Zombie Lesson 1. Open the Rolling Dead app. 2. Follow the directions and try to escape the Zombies. 3. If you prefer, you can play Sharky the Beaver instead. This app is more appropriate for primary students.

Sphero Task Challenge #5 Golf Lesson Standards: MA.5.A.6.3 Describe real-world situations using positive and negative numbers. 1. Open the Sphero Golf app. 2. Each team member will need a score card, and will record their score for each hole. (example:: If the hole is par 2, and you complete the hole in 3 tries, then your score is The player with the lowest score at the end of the round is the winner.

Sphero Task Challenge #5 Golf Lesson In the classroom Students use their knowledge of angles to measure and aim their Sphero. What are your ideas?

Sphero Task Challenge #6 Code with Sprk Lightning Lab Standards:: MAFS.912.C.3.9 Find average and instantaneous rates of change. Understand the instantaneous rate of change as the limit of the average rate of change. Interpret a derivative as a rate of change in applications, including velocity, speed, and acceleration. SC.4.P.12.2 Investigate and describe that the speed of an object is determined by the distance it travels in a unit of time and that objects can move at different speeds. 1. Open the Sphero Sprk Lightning Lab app. 2. Challenge: How fast can you get the Sphero through the maze? Use the app to program your Sphero to complete the maze without touching the edges. 3. The tallest team member will keep time to see how long it takes your team to complete this challenge.

Sphero Task Challenge #6 Code with Sprk Lightning Lab In the Classroom Create mazes and explore the concept of friction by sending the Sphero through the maze with the nubby and turbo covers. Record your observations to see how different the different covers affect the Sphero s journey. What are your ideas?
