Sonny comes to us from Shamrock GC in Burlington, NC as the Superintendent for more than eleven years.

Sonny has managed Penncross putting surfaces for many years, as well as having been responsible for a variety of renovation and restoration projects.

2 Page 2 General Manager s Message I am excited about the upcoming golf season and the opportunity the new year presents. Deep Springs Country Club will continue to be the best golf club in the area and we are proud to announce the hiring of Sonny Johnson as our Golf Course Superintendent. Sonny comes to us from Shamrock GC in Burlington, NC as the Superintendent for more than eleven years. Sonny is a NC State graduate and has a well established reputation in the industry as a hard worker. Sonny has managed Penncross putting surfaces for many years, as well as having been responsible for a variety of renovation and restoration projects. I am confident that Sonny will be an excellent fit into our management team, and I look forward to working with him. We are putting the finishing touches on Phase II of the Membership Drive here at Deep Springs. Our theme is "Membership Has It's Privileges", and possesses an inclusive package that is value added, saleable, and something we are collectively proud of. My personal goal for 2014 is to bring five new members to the club, and I ask for you to bring one. Please allow me to help you recruit the next new member of Deep Springs CC. I am hopeful our Player Development Program is something Sonny Johnson of interest to those that seriously want to become a better player. As a PGA Professional, I am committed to our "Grow The Game" initiatives and the devotion required to execute this game plan. This mission is imperative to the long term health of our club, and the golf industry as a whole. I am hopeful that you will support our golf and club operations staff in this regard. I am proud to announce that Nick Webb, our Assistant Professional recently completed all requirements neccessary to become a Class A member of the PGA of America, which is no simple task. Please stop by the golf shop and congratulate Nick on this accomplishment at your earliest convenience. Joe Poplin continues to see an improvement in his play in various mini- tour events, and we are equally proud of him in this endeavor. Deep Springs CC, it's where you belong! Lew

3 Page 3 Message From Renee: I am so glad we live in North Carolina and I am ready for the temperature to get above freezing. Join us in The Dining Room with your Valentine on the 14 th. We have some special things planned, plus a complementary dessert for two. We are striving to make the atmosphere exactly what you are looking for when dining out, and we are local just a short drive home! We are in the process of finalizing our plans for If you have any suggestions for theme events or dinners, wine tastings or other social events, we would love to hear from you. Please, we want to hear from you! We are definitely going to bring back the band Retro most likely in mid-may, to kick off the summer. Golf Tip of the Month How to be more consistent with shorter putts: Start from about 3 to 4 feet and start by using your left hand only. Choke down a little on the putter and start putting for 5 minutes or so with the left hand only. This will control the left wrist and keep the clubface from being too open or closed. Next, use the same distances and use only the right hand. This will help you to keep the loft of the putter more consistent by not letting your wrist flip up at impact. You will feel the palm of your right hand go toward the hole. By using both hands separately in this drill for a period of time it will teach your hands to react better together and down the road you will see better results on your critical putts. So please join this year and plan to come out and play either Tuesday evenings for 9 holes, or Thursday morning for 18 holes. So-----everyone, please return this form before March 1st. This deadline must be met in order to have everyone s complete and accurate information in our 2014 L.G.A. Yearbook. A get acquainted brunch has been scheduled for Saturday, March 22. Age range for Young Executive I is from When the Young Executive reaches age 31, their membership would automatically move to Young Executive II. Young Executive II (Full Participating Membership) This membership encourages the next generation golfers and their families. The age range for Young Executive II is from When the Young Executive reaches age 41, they have the choice of moving to a Full Participating Non Transferrable or an Individual Only classification at the prevailing rate at the time of transfer. Individual Only Entitles one individual to all of the amenities of Deep Springs Golf and Country Club for himself/herself. No other family members can use Deep Springs Golf and Country Club facilities without paying associated guest fees. Full Participating Membership (Transferable) $1,000 Membership & $2,000 Initiation Fee (waived) Full Participating Membership (Non- Transferable) No Initiation Fee Youth Membership $800 Initiation Fee (waived) Social Membership $1,000 Initiation Fee (waived) This membership allows for Clubhouse Activities, pool and tennis privileges. Golf is permitted with payment of green fees.
