Tiger Golf Classic Hosted by The University Club, Baton Rouge, Louisiana March 20-22, 2016 Field:, Duke, Arkansas, Tulane, Wake Forest, North Carolina, Houston, Tennessee, Mississippi State, Kentucky, Notre Dame, UNCW, North Carolina State, Ole Miss, Auburn, Denver and Oklahoma. This will mark the 34th-consecutive spring that the women s golf team has hosted this tournament that has grown to be one of the premier events of the spring golf schedule. The Classic moved to the University Club in 2000 and has been played there every year except 2010 when the U-Club was being renovated. The present course layout has been played on since is the defending champion and has won the event as a team eight teams. The Lady Tigers have had nine individual winners. Elise Bradley won the tournament last season in a playoff. Silverado Showdown Hosted by the University of Colorado and University of Oregon Silverado Resort North Course, Napa, California April 15-17, 2016 Field: Colorado, Oregon, California, Gonzaga; Long Beach State, Louisville,, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Mexico, Ohio State, Pepperdine, San Diego State, San Jose State, San Francisco, Stanford, UC Davis and Wisconsin. This marks the third annual Silverado Showdown hosted by the University of Oregon and University of Colorado. It s the first time that the Lady Tigers have competed in the Napa, California event. Oregon is the defending champion of the Silverado Showdown as the Ducks edged out Oregon State by one stroke a year ago to claim the title. Southeastern Conference Championships Hosted by the SEC Greystone Country Club, Hoover, Alabama April 15-17, 2016 Field: All 14 schools of the Southeastern Conference won its only SEC title in 1992 at Santa Maria Golf Course in Baton Rouge and finished fifth a year ago to Vanderbilt. This will be the fourth consecutive year the club has played host to the event, but the play will shift from the Founder s Course to the Rees Jones Legacy Course for

5 STAFF SEASON PREVIEW The Lady Tigers entered the season with a case of golfers that featured strong returnees and talented newcomers that would hopefully put the program back in position to make back-to-back NCAA Championship appearances. Despite the loss of SEC Player of the Year Madelene Sagstrom, the Tigers will be looking to put things together at the right part of the season. Fall 2015 Update The Lady Tigers had their best tournament to open the season when they were at full strength, finishing fourth in the Mason Rudolph Championships, with a score of 9-over par 873. Junior All-America Caroline Nistrup posted an even par score of 216 ( ) to finish at even par and a tie for 17th. Elise Bradley and Nadine Dreher were both +4, 220 and Marina Hedlund in her first tournament, posted 5-over 221. Dreher had the low score in the ANNIKA Intercollegiate at 1-over 217 ( ) with Bradley at 3-over 219 ( ). In the Ruth s Chris Tar Heel, Nistrup injured her wrist early in the competition and had to withdraw and that injury would lead to season ending surgery. But in that event freshman Kathleen Gallagher would have her best fall finish of T11 at 3-over par 219 ( ). Dreher +6 (222) and Gallagher +7 (223) would have the best scores to lead the Lady Tigers in the finally at The Alamo Invitational. Returning Golfers Leading the way for was junior Caroline Nistrup who was coming off a First-Team All-America and First-Team All-SEC season that was only overshadowed in the league by teammate Madelene Sagstrom. Nistrup averaged for the season with five top 10 finishes. She finished T12 at 8-over par 296 from an original field of 132. She won her first collegiate tournament when she tied with Sagstrom at the Allstate Sugar Bowl in New Orleans. The seniors on the team are Nadine Dreher and Elise Bradley. Drerer, from Austria, played in nine events a year ago, averaging for the season and was part of the 2015 NCAA Championship lineup. Bradley, who is from Mandeville, had one of the biggest turnarounds in college golf in 2015 and Golfweek recognized that with an article about Bradley s play a year ago. She improved her average some six shots from her sophomore season, posting for 33 rounds as a junior. Bradley won her first collegiate event when she won the Tiger Golf Classic on second hole of sudden death after posting a 2-under 214 ( ). She also had top 10s at the Mason Rudolph, The Alamo and the Lady Puerto Rico. Bradley finished with 18 rounds of par or under and was named Honorable Mention All-America by Golfweek. Release: 07/16/2015 Carly Goldstein is back for her third season after playing in all 11 events for the Lady Tigers, averaging for 33 rounds, including an appearance 3

6 STAFF ELISE BRADLEY CARLY GOLDSTEIN NADINE DREHER as part of the team lineup in the NCAA Championships. Her best event was the Mason Rudolph Championships finishing at T16 at 6-over par 222 ( ). Baton Rouge is represented on the team by sophomore Sydney Cavin of The Dunham School. Cavin learned the ropes of college golf as a freshman, taking part in four events As shown that year of experience paid off with a win early in the 2016 portion of the schedule. Claudia De Antonio, a sophomore from Venezuela who prepped in Florida, has been slowed by injuries both years but was able to get on the course for three spring events, including being in the lineup for the Southeastern Conference Championships. Her best finish was in the Tiger Golf Classic and in her first conference tournament she improved each day posting She posted five-of-nine rounds in the 70s. Newcomers The coaching staff brought in three new players for the season junior transfer Lana Hodge and freshmen Kathleen Gallagher and Marina Hedlund. Hodge transferred to after playing both as a freshman and sophomore at ULM. She played in four tournaments as a freshman and in five fall tournaments as a sophomore lowered her stroke average almost two strokes to 77.38, second on the ULM team. The 2012 individual state high school champion in 2012 had finishes of T13 and T14 during her sophomore campaign. Gallagher has the unique distinction of being the first Lady Tiger whose mom also played for the Lady Tigers Cissye Meeks-Gallagher. He father is the multiple PGA titlist and Golf Channel analyst Jim Gallagher, Jr. Gallagher was part of four golf championships at Pillow Academy and was the Mississippi Women s State Amateur Champ in 2013 and runner-up in Hedlund s arrival as a freshman continues the years of Swedish representation on the team. She was part of the team that won the Swedish Golf School Team Championship in 2014 and was POY in Dalarna province ( ). In 2014, she was also part of the Swedish girls national team. Regional in Baton Rouge The highlight of the 2016 portion of the schedule will be the Lady Tigers and the University Club hosting an NCAA Regional event that will send six teams to the 2016 NCAA Championships in Oregon. The regional is a threeday event that will bring 18 teams to Baton Rouge, one of four locations to host regionals around the country, May 5-7. CAROLINE NISTRUP KAREN BAHNSEN 4

7 STAFF KAREN BAHNSEN HEAD COACH 32ND SEASON It is so easy even after all these years to know when the women s college golf team is about to return to campus and another season is set to begin. The eyes of the coach brighten with anticipation. The pace quickens and the hope of a successful season looms again. Even entering her 32nd season, the coach who has seen it all when it comes to women s golf at still has that passion and anticipation. Karen Bahnsen knows another opportunity waits on the national golf scene, a place where has regularly had a place at the table of top teams. She has seen seasons come and seasons go as she traveled a journey as a member of the s women s golf team and then as the head coach of her alma mater. Bahnsen is in many ways a historian for the sport of college golf, especially at and the Southeastern Conference. She has seen the sport improve in so many ways with better equipment, better scores and better players. She has now seen the sport she loves advance into the television age as the Golf Channel documents the women s final and its new match play championships. The dean of SEC coaches and a Women s Golf Coaches Association Hall of Famer continues to get the job done for her program and her University each and every year. She is driven to succeed and has the beliefs and values that reach her players and gives them the chance to be successful as well. Over the course of 31 successful years as head coach, it s not just wins and losses that matter. It is grade point average as well as greens in regulation. It is graduation day as well as tournament championships. It s the big picture of preparing for the future whether that is as a business woman, a woman raising a family and if the chance to play professionally arises, then the Lady Tigers are prepared for that as well. As the program enters its 37th season, it s easy to see how far this program has come from visiting the campus book store to get matching shirts for the first tournament to back-to-back third place team finishes in the NCAA Championships. She was the first recruit of a program that started in the fall of 1979 that has under the tutelage of Bahnsen contributed her share of great stars in her years as head coach: Jenny Lidback the nation s No. 1 player in 1986, who won seven tournaments in one season. She went on to win an LPGA Major and is the first women s golfer in the Athletic Hall of Fame. Jackie Gallagher-Smith played for in the 1980s that produced a long and steady career on the LPGA Tour, including an LPGA victory. Three Amigas Ashley Winn, Michelle Louviere, Laura Moore , led to a succession of NCAA appearances (including a fifth place finish in 1998), a No. 1 ranking and nine tournament titles. Katy Wilkinson Harris Had All-American bookend performances in her freshman and senior years and has come out of retirement in the last two years to win on the Symetra Tour and play on the LPGA tour. Meredith Duncan Won three major amateur titles in 2001 including the USGA Women s Amateur title Member of the Curtis Cup team and winner of the Dinah Shore Award from LPGA. Madelene Sagstrom SEC Player of the Year, runnerup for the ANNIKA Award. First- Team All-America, Three-time First Team All-SEC. It was 2011 and 2012 that the Lady Tigers brought home third place hardware from the NCAA team championships. The Tigers have advanced to that championship round 13 times, 12 under Coach Bahnsen. Now in the season, the Lady Tigers have a group of returnees and some talent newcomers that are trying to blend together to advance again to NCAA play despite some injuries to players like returning All-American Caroline Nistrup. To Coach Bahnsen, it seems like only yesterday when Buddy Alexander, who was handling both the men s and women s golf teams at, elected to hand her the keys to the women s golf program prior to the season. The enthusiasm and competitive spirit that Bahnsen showed people like Alexander as a player is the same enthusiasm and competitive spirit that is evident as a coach. She has had the drive, the determination and the willingness to succeed ever since those playing days. Bahnsen knows what it takes to get to the pinnacle of women s collegiate golf the NCAA Women s Championship Tournament. She will ask her team to work hard and respond to the challenge, but it would be nothing less than she ever asked of herself as a player. Now the message is being spread farther thanks to those who have worked and played for her. Two former assistants Marci Kornegay (South Florida) and Golda Borst (Kentucky) are now head coaches. Ashley (Winn) Tonore, who played for Bahnsen in , served for several years as the Director of Golf and head women s coach at ULM. Former player Alexis Rather has also joined the coaching fraternity in her eighthyear as an assistant and her sixth at. Over the years Bahnsen has come up with a simple philosophy that she started using as a player. It s so simple, but so amazingly effective when put into play. She wants her team to play each shot as a separate event. If something bad happens, forget it and move on. Don t let it carry on for four or five holes. Most of all have fun. Bahnsen s love and desire for a program she has devoted over half her life to is what also gives her a smiling satisfaction about a program she has virtually helped design from scratch. She is more energized than ever to make the program a continuing contender in the national spotlight. How many programs are there in any sports in Division I intercollegiate athletics where the program s first recruit goes on to become the head coach of the program and stays long enough to not the dean of league coaches in the sport, but also one of the longest tenured coaches in school history? She is one of the most respected individuals in the game today, not just in the SEC but all college golf circles. In 2010, Bahnsen s golf team was recognized as just one of three teams at to earn an NCAA Public Recognition Award for exceptional work in this classroom. The awards are given annually to teams scoring in the top 10 percent in each sport with their Academic Progress Rate (APR). She knows that nothing on the LPGA or the Symetra tours is guaranteed for any golfer. She knows what it is like to have a husband, a family and the need to divide time between the coaching job and the family time. Her values on balancing both are what makes her a special person and a coach that players want to play for. Every year has brought new challenges and every time Bahnsen has answered that call. Every year, the desire to succeed is that much greater and that is what seems to continue to light the fire of the lady who knows golf inside and outside, backwards and forwards. Bahnsen came to with credentials that were excellent, lettering in golf at McGill-Toolen High School in Mobile, Ala. She led the school to two state titles and in 1979 won the state individual championship and the National High School Tournament. Her mother was an LPGA teaching professional, a four-time Alabama state women s champion, and a Mobile Sports Hall of Fame inductee. This past year mother and daugher were united again as Karen Bahnsen was honored as an inductee into the Mobile Sports Hall of Fame. Bahnsen is married to Senior Associate Athletic Director David Bo Bahnsen. They have two children, son Darren (27, an graduate, a former member of state championship golf and basketball teams at University High in Baton Rouge) and daughter, Devin, 24. 6

11 STAFF ALEXIS RATHER ASSISTANT COACH 6 TH SEASON She doesn t quite walk and talk like her mentor just yet, but Alexis Rather has been the perfect combination to work with Karen Bahnsen. But the two of them together do have the same goals, aspirations and work ethic that keep women s golf in the national spotlight yearafter-year. The pair put together a class of golfers that finished third in the NCAA championships both in 2011 and 2012 and continues to search and find some of the world s top recruits to come to Baton Rouge. She was part of the staff that brought in and helped Madelene Sagstrom earn SEC Player of the Year last year and first-team All-America honors, along with Caroline Nistrup who finished T12 in the NCAA Championships a year ago and also earned first-team A-A citation. Rather in just a short time has become a consummate recruiter and on-course coach. She knows the advice to give and the proper times to give it. She knows when to press and when to back off. With Bahnsen, it s a coaching staff in sync in recruiting talent and developing it to be the best it can be. She is an program veteran and, like her mentor, she knows the history of the team and what is necessary to get teams through delicate moments in important rounds because she has lived it. The former golfer served two years as an assistant coach at Ole Miss before beginning her tenure at. The native of Tupelo, Miss., was a four-year letter winner at, appeared in two NCAA Women s Golf Championships as a player and was a four-time Women s Golf Coaches Association scholar-athlete. Rather, a two-time First-Team All-Louisiana golfer, had three top 10 finishes in her 2008 senior season. That year, she also chipped in for the only birdie in a sudden death playoff for the eighth and final qualifying spot at the NCAA East Regional that got to the NCAA Women s Championships. finished in 15th place in the NCAA Championships that season. At Ole Miss, she showed the type of coach she would be, helping guide the Rebels back to postseason play and win a tournament for the first time since 2004 as the women s golf team earned the Chancellor s Cup for the women s varsity team at Ole Miss with the highest grade point average. Since returning to, she has helped the program with practice routines, helped put together the annual Tiger Golf Classic and been on the course for tournaments both at home and on the road. With Rather around, there is another important voice for traveling the world recruiting. During tournaments, Rather can be seen at various spots on the course, offering help and encouragement to the Lady Tigers when needed. Rather was named s recipient on the SEC Community Service Team while in college and has been heavily involved her entire career with the school s Life Skills Program and service projects throughout the community. She graduated from in July 2007 with an honors degree in communications and her master s in sports management from in

22 Season Review WOMEN S GOLF Multiple team wins. Multiple individual wins. Another trip to the NCAA Championships. It was all part of a very successful season for Coach Karen Bahnsen and the Lady Tigers. The team posted three multiple team victories as The Alamo Invitational in the fall. The Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate and the Tiger Golf Classic were the team wins in the spring to go with two other second place finishes. The Tigers finished T4 in the NCAA Raleigh Regional and advanced back to the NCAA Championships. Individually, the Lady Tigers had three different players score victories, two sharing the titles in the Allstate Sugar Bowl tournament (Caroline Nistrup and Madelene Sagstrom). Sagstrom would also take the title at the NCAA Raleigh Regional and Nistrup would finish T12 in the NCAA Championship. Here are some of the highlights from the season: 20

23 Season Review THE LADY TIGERS The Alamo is knows as a low-scoring tournament and the Lady Tigers were up for the challenge in the final event of the fall, posting rounds of for a 23-under par winning score of 841 as three players posted under par numbers for the 54 holes. had six individual rounds of 70 or lower during the tournament. That tournament started a five-tournament streak that carried through the end of the regular season win which was either first or second in the team standings. was second in Puerto Rico, won the Sugar Bowl with a 10-over score of 874, was t2 in the Darius Rucker event and then posted a 15-over 879 to win its own tournament, the Tiger Golf Classic at the University Club. MADELENE SAGSTROM The Swedish Senior had a breakout year becoming the third women s golfer to win SEC Player of the Year as well as the fourth Lady Tigers to earn three All-SEC first team honors in their careers. She was the runner-up for the ANNIKA Award and was the first golfer to average under 72 strokes a round at for 33 rounds. The first-team All-America tied for the title at the Allstate Sugar Bowl at 4-under 212 ( ), was second at the Darius Rucker at 6-under 207, was third at the SECs at 5-under 211 and then captured the Raleigh Regional title at 8-under 208 ( ). She finished with seven top five finishes and for her 125 career rounds posted an average of CAROLINE NISTRUP Nistrup also earned a boatload of honors in her sophomore year, including first-team All-SEC and first-team All-America after her strong season highlighted by her T12 finish in the national championship at the Concession Golf Club in Florida ( , +8). Nistrup tied her teammate Sagstrom for the title at the Allstate Sugar Bowl at 4-under 212, posting consistent rounds of to share the award. Nistrup, who had six top 10 finishes on the year and a stroke average, also finished in T2 in the Raleigh Regional behind Sagstrom at 2-under par 714 with rounds of She finished the year with 17 rounds of par or better. ELISE BRADLEY Bradley may have been one of the most improved player in American in and that s certainly what Golfweek was proclaiming after a season that saw her go from ranked as a sophomore several hundred deep to top 30 in the season. Bradley averaged for her 33 rounds with 18 rounds of par or under and four top 10s. The Mandeville junior improved her stroke average almost four shots from a year ago and won her first tournament on the second hole of sudden death at the Tiger Golf Classic at the University Club. She posted a 2-under 214 ( ) to get to extra holes and parred the 10th and eventually the winning 11th hole to capture the title. She also tied for fourth at The Alamo and was T3 at the Puerto Rico event. 21

In addition the team win, Madelene Sagstrom and Caroline Nistrup tied for the individual title with a 1-under 71 and a 54-hole total of 212. The team victory was the 39th in the history of the program and the 38th under head coach Karen Bahnsen. Sagstrom won her second career title and posted her 14th top-10 finish of her career. 28 CHAMPIONSHIPS The Southeastern Conference has continuted to show its leadership in the intergration of athletic competition and higher education. Since its formation in 1933, the SEC has achieved both stature and stability by designating governing/voting power to the presidents of the member institutions. They have determined the policies of the conference and through the years this involvement has been the principal source of strength in the evolution of the SEC. Intercollegiate athletics encountered many challenges in the 1990 s and the SEC provided guidance. In 1993, the member institutions adopted The Principles of Gender Equity. Committed to increasing the quantity and quality of women s athletic opportunities, each school provides at least two more women s intercollegiate programs than the number of men s. In the academic year, SEC championships for women were recognized in basketball, tennis and volleyball. The following year golf, gymnastics, swimming and track and field were added. The administration of women s athletics officially came under the auspices of the conference office in The SEC currently regulates nine men s sports and 12 women s sports. 31 NCAA Championships 2016 CHAMPIONSHIP One year after a major format change, the NCAA Women s Golf Championship has shown that it can play on a nationallyteleivised platform. The format involves a cut after 54 holes to the top-15 teams and nine individuals not on those 15 teams. They will play a final stroke play round to determine the national individual champion and the eight teams that will advance to match play. To win the national championship, a team will then have to win three best-of-five player matches over the course of two days. For the second straight year, the championships will be held on the same course that the men s championship will be contested on -- Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore. The women s championship will be contested May The Lady Tigers will look to return to the NCAA Championship event in 2016 after finishing tied for 20th last season. had its best national championship finishes in 2011 and 2012 taking home third place both years. In 2012, the Lady Tigers were just two shots out of the title. The Lady Tigers would return in 1986 when, led by Player of the Year Jenny Lidback, helped the Tigers to a ninth-place finish. Lidback finished tied for 17th. s longest championship run started in 1986, when the Three Amigas (Ashley Winn, Laura Moore and Michelle Louviere) took the Lady Tigers to top 10-finishes in 1996 (8th) and 1998 (5th). Louviere finished tied for 19th in 1986 and Winn tied for 15th. The Tigers posted 10th-place finishes in 1999 and 2000 and a 12th-place finish in 2001 on teams led by Katy Harris and Meredith Duncan. 33 2011 NCAA 3rd Place Team 2011 NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS BEST EVER THIRD AS A TEAM; AUSTIN ERNST WINS TITLE BRYAN, Texas - Freshman Austin Ernst became the first women s golfer in the 32-year history of the program to win the NCAA Women s Championship, firing a final round of 6-under 66 to win the championship by three shots at The Traditions Club. Ernst, from Seneca, S.C., becomes the first freshman to win the women s national championship since Jennifer Rosales of USC in It was also a historic day for the women s program as they rallied in the final round to easily finish the highest they have ever finished in their 11 Championship appearances, taking third behind champion UCLA and runnerup Purdue. The best previous finish for a women s team was in 1998 in Madison, Wisc., when finished fifth. After losing the lead in the third round, Ernst came right back on the second hole of the day with a hole-in-one and then a 60-foot birdie on the next hole put her in the lead to stay. I had 162 (yards). It was a solid eight iron and it was going right at the pin, Ernst told the media afterwards. I looked down and looked back up and begin to hear the roar because it got really, really loud and I looked up and the ball was gone. Everyone was going crazy. I don t remember exactly what I did, but I went crazy. It was my first hole-in-one ever. Ernst, showing maturity beyond her freshman status, won by three shots over Arkansas Kelli Shean. Ernst posted rounds of for a 72-hole score of seven-under 281, the lowest score ever shot for 72 holes by an women s golfer. I was very confident coming in, Ernst said. Coming down the stretch my nerves were really good which I was little surprised about. I was just trusting my shots. (Coach Karen Bahnsen) kept telling me one shot at a time. Stay in the now not yesterday. Don t focus on results. In fact, Ernst told Bahnsen on the seventh hole she didn t want to know her place in the standings during the round and the scoreboards on the course were only showing team results. For Austin to come in here and handle all this shows how poised she is, said Coach Karen Bahnsen. She handled everything so well Ernst played the par 3s in two-under, the par fours in two-under and the par fives in three-under. She tied with runnerup Shean with 19 birdies and her hole-in-one was one of an amazing five over the last two rounds of the event. The Lady Tiger team played the final 10 combined holes early Saturday in one-over par to fall to a tie for fourth and Bahnsen knew her team had one final kick left. When we got done we talked about how the girls are the tops in the country in final round average and that s a fact, she said. I told them they just have to play like that and be confident. I m proud of them. It was a total team effort. I said it was going to take that. Finishing third is tremendous. They fought really hard. It feels awesome. I ve been doing this a long time and I m so proud of the girls. They tried so hard the entire week. Besides Ernst s 66, junior Tessa Teachman came out big for the team with a one-over 73, senior Megan McChrystal closed her record-breaking career at before turning pro with a 75, Jacqueline Hedwall had a 76 and s other senior in the lineup, Amalie Valle, posted 80. 34 2012 NCAA 3rd Place Team 2012 NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS EQUALS THIRD PLACE FINISH FRANKLIN, Tenn. - Coach Karen Bahnsen said it all season long and emphasized it all week at the Vanderbilt Legends Club and the NCAA Women s Championships about how her Lady Tigers were such fighters. Struggling a bit at 26-over par and about to fall out of the top 10 for the first time all week, the Lady Tigers fight showed on the final three holes in Thursday s third round, as the team counted six birdies on the 7th, 8th and 9th holes to suddenly move to 20-over par and in fifth place entering Friday s final round of the 72-hole marathon. The Lady Tigers took the Legends Club and its sun-baked double rolled greens to its knees with a 1-over par round of 289, its best of the tournament, as finished a program-best third place for the secondconsecutive year. played the last 21 holes of the tournament in 5-under par and posted a number at 21-over par 1,173 ( ) that was almost good enough to win the title. After finishing eight shots behind UCLA last year, the Tigers watched the final wave and top two, Alabama and Southern California, come in with Southern Cal on two occasions dropping back to 21-over to give a potential second-place tie before a late birdie set up even more drama. With USC in the clubhouse at plus-20 and its last player not counting, it was up to Alabama s Brooke Pancake to two putt to win the title by a shot. Pancake closed out the Tide s first NCAA title at 19-over par 1,171. USC finished at 20-over 1,172, one shot ahead of. s 1,173 marks the lowest 72-hole score in school history, eight shots better than the third-place score of a season ago. They came in here and really wanted to get in a position to win it, said Coach Bahnsen. They did and went out and posted a great number and it was just a couple short. We felt like we were good enough to compete and we showed we were. They did it as a total team. I m very proud of them. Yea, they are a little disappointed but I m so proud of them. The repeat of the third-place finish came on the heels of four team wins, the most team wins since the season. Senior Tessa Teachman, in her final collegiate tournament, finished with a birdie to tie for third at 1-under 287 ( ). Chirapat Jao- Javanil of Oklahoma was the individual winner at 6-under 282 ( ). Teachman, is the fourth golfer to finish in the top three in the history of the NCAA Championships joining Austin Ernst, who won last year. Katy Harris in 2001 and Kristi Coats in 1991 who both finished third. It is bittersweet, said Teachman after the verdict was sealed and had finished third. It is also my last year to give it a try. I know we can all think of shots we left here and there. It s a four-day tournament. It s how they declare the champion whoever plays best over four days. So it is bittersweet and frustrating but in retrospect you have to say third means not what we wanted but it s not bad when you look at the great competition that s out there. In posting its 1-over par round, really took advantage of the par-5 ninth on the front side and the more difficult back nine that had caused teams problems all week. All five players birdied the ninth, giving a counting four total of 2-over after struggling early before a nine-birdie surge on holes 5-9. On the final nine holes, would card a 1-under side, again getting three birdies and an Ernst eagle on the more difficult par-5 18th hole. 49 The University Club The men s and women s golf teams have had the privilege of calling the University Club home for some 15 years. After undergoing a nine-month renovation in , the home of s nationally-ranked programs features a renown par-72 layout that serves as an impressive showpiece for generations to come. The course at the University Club was re-designed under the guidance of legend and PGA Tour pro David Toms and noted golf course architect Jim Lipe, who designed the original University Club in The course is carved into nearly 300 acres of land just seven miles south of the campus on Nicholson Drive. The club most recently received rave reviews as the host of the 2013 NCAA Men s Golf Regional, marking the first time in the illustrious history of the men s golf program that the Tigers served as hosts to an NCAA men s postseason tournament on its home course. Overall, it was the third regional (2 women) to have been played on the home course. The challenging 18-hole course at University Club can play to 7,700 yards from its championship tees and feature wide fairways bordered by pine hammocks and native grasses, in addition to 2,000 feet of bulkhead. Four additional sets of tees are also available for players of all ages and skill levels. In addition, the lake areas have been increased by 110,000 cubic yards in total and more than 500 trees were added throughout the course to provide a challenging test of golf for anyone playing the University Club. Not only that, but the course now has one of the most impressive finishing holes in golf as the 18th hole features a new championship Tiger tee with a beautiful six-foot high wood bulkhead. The lake was expanded near the green, where an additional 180 feet of bulkhead was also added. In the summer of 2011, the members of the University Club voted the 18th hole as the course s Signature Hole. The course was built on land donated to the Tiger Athletic Foundation and subsequently leased to The University Club. The original vision that drove University Club s development was having a premier course that would provide a place for TAF members to play, as well as a home for the men s and women s golf teams at. The course opened for members on Oct. 22, The swimming and tennis facility adjacent to the course opened in the summer of The surrounding housing development continues to grow, adding to the beauty of the area surrounding the golf course. The Tiger Athletic Foundation is a private, non-profit corporation that serves as the fund-raising and development arm of the athletics department. Each year, the TAF underwrites scholarship and academics awards, as well as capital development projects for athletics. 47

50 Bilyeu Golf Practice Facility BILYEU GOLF PRACTICE FACILITY In April 2011, the Golf House was given a well deserved renaming to the Mary and Woody Bilyeu Golf Practice Facility. The Tiger Athletic Foundation paid tribute to the couple for their generous donation that helped redo the University Club, making the course more challenging for collegiate golfers. Playing on the course helped the women to their best ever third place finishes in both the 2011 and 2012 NCAA Championships. The generosity of the Bilyeu s has been tremendous, and they are going to make people s dreams come true for years and years to come, TAF Senior Vice President Rick Perry said. There will be young people with the opportunity to chase their dream, not only to be professional golfers but to get the opportunity to come to and get an education. The facility features office and storage areas for both teams, indoor hitting bays, computer analysis stations and meeting and locker room space for both teams as well as graphic displays of the history of both golf programs through the years. The outdoor hitting area is expansive where players can work on all facets of their game. 48

51 PRACTICEFACILITIES TrackMan utilizes TrackMan technology to improve each player s game with properly-fitted equipment tailored to their specific needs. Each player is able to obtain exact yardages for each club in his bag while measuring various aspects of his swing, such as launch angle, spin rate, attack angle, clubhead speed, ball speed and much more. CONFERENCE ROOM u The lavish conference room at the Golf House enables the coaching staff and players to meet in a quiet, spacious area. 52 WEDGE GAME The practice facilities at the Bilyeu Golf Practice Facility feature a wedge game area with three target greens, each measuring 2,000 square feet. Players can finetune their wedge game by hitting shots from all lies and angles up to 120 yards as the greens are guarded by rough and five bunkers. The project, designed by alumni David Toms, Jim Lipe and Chuck Winstead, was completed in the summer of PUTTING GREEN In addition to building a new wedge game area, recent renovations to the practice facilities at The Bilyeu Golf Practice Facility saw the completion of a brand new putting green measuring 10,000 square feet along with an existing putting green measuring 14,000 square feet that has been overseeded with bent grass. In all, the improvements to the practice facilities at the Bilyeu Golf Practice Facility are estimated at $150,000. TEE BOX Members of the men s and women s golf teams have the opportunity to practice in a spacious environment as the Bilyeu Golf Practice Facility features a large tee box measuring 100 yards in length. Club Repair The Bilyeu Golf Practice Facility is blessed with a state-of-the-art club repair room that allows the players to re-grip clubs, re-shaft clubs and check and change the lies and lofts of each club, including woods and putters, to ensure your set is where you want it. SAM PuttLab The SAM (Science and Motion) PuttLab uses the same basic principles as TrackMan technology, but with putting. The Tigers are able to fine-tune their putting stroke from the feedback SAM provides about the angle of the putter face at set up, impact and through the stroke. 50

53 2016 Golf Classic/2015 Results THE 2016 TIGER GOLF CLASSIC THE HISTORY This year s Golf Classic will mark the 34th-consecutive spring that the women s golf team has hosted a tournament that has grown to be one of the most prestigious events of the women s golf schedule. The Classic moved to the University Club in 2000 and has been played there every year except 2010 when U-Club renovations moved the event to English Turn in New Orleans, where the Lady Tigers hosted the event with Tulane. But the tournament roots go back to the local Fairwood Country Club and its unique membership that not only hosted and ran the tournament, but served as uncles and aunts for many of the teams that came each year. Club members hosted teams at their houses every year, allowing teams to save money in the days when women s college golf wasn t funded as it is today. Dinners were provided by the club along with member entertainment and some of the nation s top golf teams and players came to participate. Jenny Lidback, who would go on to win a major championship on the LPGA tour, lost the tournament title in a playoff while at TCU and in 1986 would win the title as an Lady Tiger. Arizona s Marisa Baena had her coming-out party as a freshman dominating the competition. In the final -Fairwood event in 1999, Duke put on the course a lineup that would become one of the most dominating in the nation. Dan Brooks brought his Duke team back to Baton Rouge to win the 2007 renewal on the way to winning the East Regional at the U-Club, leading to a third-straight NCAA Championship. Arkansas has won three-of-the-last-five events and both teams are back on the course this year. s annual golf tournament has not only proven to be an important event on the women s collegiate circuit, but it has proven to be a community event as seen by the hundreds of volunteers who take part each year. It s those volunteers that the golf program salutes for their tireless efforts that make the event the success it is. Also thanks to the University Club for being a special home for Golf and to the TAF for their work to continue to make the U-Club a strong test of golf. THE RITE OF SPRING AT S U-CLUB The rite of spring known as the Golf Classic returns to the redesigned University Club, March 20-22, The Lady Tigers and the tournament returned in 2011 to their home University Club after a year away to allow a complete renovation of the course. This will mark the 34th year the Lady Tigers have hosted a tournament, the 33rd in Baton Rouge. has played the tournament (with the exception of 2010) at the U-Club every year since 2000 as well as hosting two NCAA regionals and an SEC Championship in that time. This year s Golf Classic has drawn another strong field of 17 teams as the Lady Tigers will host Arkansas, Auburn, Denver, Duke, Houston, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, North Carolina, NC State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Tulane, UNCW and Wake Forest. 56 President Dr. F. King Alexander President/Chancellor Dr. F. King Alexander was named the president and chancellor of Louisiana State University, which has an annual budget of $3.4 billion and more than 54,000 students. He was appointed to the position by the Board of Supervisors in March 2013 and assumed the position on July 1. Prior to being named the president, Dr. Alexander was president of California State University, Long Beach ( ) one of the nation s largest public universities located in southern California. During his more than seven-year tenure at California State University, Long Beach, Dr. Alexander was twice named the California State University Student Association (CSSA) President of the Year, which represents all 23 California State Universities and its over 440,000 students. Prior to becoming president of California State University, Long Beach, Dr. Alexander was president of Murray State University in Kentucky ( ) and was a faculty member at the University of Illinois, Champaign- Urbana, where he was the director of the graduate higher education program. A Kentucky native who grew up in north Florida, Dr. Alexander received his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in higher education administration with a focus on finance and educational policy analysis, and a Master of Science degree from the University of Oxford, Oxford, England in comparative educational studies. As a teacher and administrator, Dr. Alexander has received many honors, including the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Education Alumni Achievement Award (2002) and has research university faculty affiliations at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Center for the Study of Postsecondary Education (WISCAPE) and Cornell University Higher Education Research Institute (CHERI). Alexander is an internationally-respected expert in higher education finance and public policy and frequently publishes in national journals and for organizations in this field. He has served as a reviewer, an editorial board member, and a university instructor and faculty member, teaching courses in higher education finance, law, history and current events. Dr. Alexander also has been asked to represent public higher education colleges and universities on numerous occasions to the United States Congress on issues of college affordability, student indebtedness, and institutional efficiency and effectiveness in efforts to address many of the growing challenges facing American higher education. Due to his national recognition and involvement on higher education issues, Dr. Alexander has served on numerous U.S. higher education and statewide organizational leadership boards where he remains very active. Dr. Bill Demastes Faculty Athletics Representative Dr. Bill DeMastes, a professor of English at, is in his second year as Faculty Athletics Representative. Dr. Demastes earned his Ph.D. in English in 1986 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Field of Study of Drama as Genre and a specialization in 20th-Century American and British Drama. He earned his masters in English in June 1979 from the Univeristy of Georgia in Athens where he specialized in 19th-Century American Literature. At, he served as Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences from and Director of Undergraduate Studies for the Department of English from and He has also served as Associate Chair of the Department of English ( ); Director of the Master of Arts in Liberal Arts Program ( ); and, Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of English ( ; ). He was honored with the Alumni Association Faculty Excellence Award in 2000 and in 2002 won the Distinguished Faculty Award. He was named in 2009 an Rainmaker which is given to the top 100 Faculty. In 2010, he received the Tiger Athletic Foundation Undergraduate Teaching Award, and in the summer of 2011, he was named the Harry Ransom Summer Fellowship recipient by the University of Texas. 54

57 Vice Chancellor/Director of Athletics Joe Alleva Vice Chancellor/Director of Athletics Joe Alleva continues to bring unprecedented national recognition to as Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics. Under Alleva s leadership, enjoys one of the country s premier athletics programs with success on and off the field of competition. Now in his sixth year at, Alleva is dedicated to athletic and academic excellence, and is committed to providing the opportunities and the resources necessary for student-athletes to excel in competition, in the classroom and in the community. Alleva joined the family on April 4, 2008 after a highly successful tenure as director of athletics at Duke University for 10 years. Alleva s role at was further expanded in August of 2009 when vice chancellor was added to his title by the Board of Supervisors. It is the first time in school history that the director of athletics has also held a vice chancellor position. Alleva is currently serving a five-year term on the prestigious NCAA Men s Basketball Committee, reinforcing his position as one of the most respected athletic administrators in the country. Upon his arrival at, Alleva unveiled a strategic master plan for the athletics program -- : Thru and True -- to ensure the advancement and future of Athletics as an exemplary program. The central mission of the plan is to create an environment for student-athletes to reach their ultimate potential, prepare them to be champions in life and to set out goals and values for the entire athletics program. Alleva s vision will keep among the nation s leaders in athletic facilities. He launched an aggressive fund-raising campaign to replace several hundred windows in Tiger Stadium that were in disrepair, and a new coating to the facade of the structure has given the old stadium new life. A renovated gating system on the west side of the stadium debuted in the fall of 2012 to include a plaza that celebrates s football national championships and recognition walls that honor Tiger All-Americans. A new plaza opened on the north end of the stadium in the fall of 2013, further enriching the experience of visitors to the campus. A new lighting system was installed prior to last season that turns the upper archways of the north end of the stadium purple and gold and lights the iconic on the stadium s north scoreboard. In addition, Tiger Stadium in 10-foot tall illuminated letters sits just below the west upper deck facing Nicholson Drive. Also in the fall of 2012, began construction on an expansion of the South End Zone of the stadium -- a project that will add premium seating, general public seating and two state-of-the-art video boards -- continuing an effort to augment one of the most iconic venues in all of college sports. The project will be completed in time for the start of the 2014 football season. Under Alleva s direction, s worldrenowned track and field program received a state-of the-art running surface in 2010 when a new track was installed in Bernie Moore Stadium and extensive renovations to the Tiger soccer facility were completed in the fall of Alleva directed a major renovation to the University Club golf course that was completed in September 2010 and allows the men s and women s golf teams to compete on one of the most challenging courses in the country. The renovated course helped prepare Tiger golfers John Peterson and Austin Ernst, respectively, to win 2011 NCAA men s and women s individual championships, marking the first time both titles were claimed by players from the same school. The men s team in 2013 played host to an NCAA Regional for the first time in the school s illustrious golf history. Future plans include a new gymnastics practice facility, a new tennis complex featuring indoor and outdoor courts, and a state-of-the-art Nutrition Center for Student-Athletes, a facility that will house full-time chefs and nutritionists and provide the best dietary selections for all Fighting Tiger competitors. s prominence was evident in the final Learfield Sports Director s Cup standings that recognize the nation s best athletic programs, as the Tigers finished in the Top 20 for the eighth consecutive year. The year was highlighted by another 10-win season and bowl appearance for the Fighting Tiger football team, which recorded a double-digit victory total for the sixth time in eight years. The men s basketball program was rejuvenated by first-year coach Johnny Jones, who directed the Tigers to a mark while placing back into consideration for a postseason berth. Women s basketball continued its rise under second-year coach Nikki Caldwell, who guided the Lady Tigers to s first Sweet 16 berth in five years. The 2013 Fighting Tiger baseball team established a school record for victories with 57 and earned the school s 16th College World Series appearance while capturing SEC Western Division and SEC Tournament titles. The softball squad won the SEC West and played host to an NCAA Regional in Tiger Park before record crowds. The gymnastics team reached the prestigious Super Six for the third time in six seasons, and the women s track team, led by Bowerman Award winner and national sprint champion Kimberlyn Duncan, placed fourth in the final NCAA outdoor standings. But the year was about more than just athletic success. Living up to Alleva s mantra of competition, classroom, community, student-athletes logged more than 4,475 hours in community service work across 20 sports through s Geaux Givers program. And a total of 89 proud Tigers received their degrees from the university during commencement ceremonies in December and May. The Tigers in finished fourth in both the men s and women s Capital One Cup competition that identifies athletic excellence. was one of only two schools in the country and the only one in the SEC -- to rank in the top four in both categories. Eighteen of the Tigers 20 varsity sports participated in NCAA postseason competition in The year was highlighted by the football team s undefeated regular season, an SEC championship and an appearance in the BCS National Championship Game. The Lady Tiger track and field team captured the SEC championship while the softball squad advanced to the Women s College World Series. The Fighting Tiger baseball team won the 2012 SEC championship, and led the nation in attendance for the 17th straight season. The season marked the first time in school history that won both the SEC title in both football and baseball in the same athletic year. Outstanding performances of the athletic season included the exploits of the Fighting Tiger football squad that posted an 11-2 mark including a Cotton Bowl victory and finished the season ranked No. 8 in the nation. The year also featured Top 5 national finishes both indoors and outdoors by the men s and women s track and field teams. In , all 20 sports competed in NCAA postseason play for the first time in school history and the Tiger baseball team won the national championship. ranked second among Southeastern Conference teams in the Learfield Director s Cup All- Sports standings and finished in the Top 20 for the sixth year in a row. With a strong commitment to academics, Alleva ensures that the Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes is a first-class facility that provides studentathletes the resources necessary for success in the classroom and personal development. The facility was recently enhanced by the addition of a media training center that gives student-athletes valuable assistance in improving their communications skills. And with a strong emphasis on community service and outreach programs, the implementation under Alleva s direction of the Geaux Givers program fosters a relationship between the local community and student-athletes, who regularly participate in philanthropic events. In addition, Alleva has bolstered the department s L-Club program to reach out and connect with former student-athletes. Alleva oversees a staff of outstanding coaches and he has made critical additions to s coaching staff in recent years. He hired former guard Johnny Jones in April 2012 to breathe new life and enthusiasm into the men s basketball program and last year added Julia Sell as the new women s tennis coach. In 2011, he lured the dynamic Nikki Caldwell to to coach the Lady Tiger basketball team and then hired Beth Torina to direct the Tiger softball program, both of whom immediately returned their respective programs to NCAA postseason success. Alleva is an innovator with bold ideas that benefit not only but all of Greater Baton Rouge. He has been instrumental in the planning of the Bayou Country Superfest, a three-day country music concert and festival held in Tiger Stadium each spring. The event attracts nearly 100,000 visitors to the campus and makes a tremendous economic impact upon the local community. Alleva has served on numerous national committees throughout his career including the Football Bowl Certification Committee, the NCAA Division I Championships/ Competition Cabinet and several Southeastern Conference and Atlantic Coast Conference committees. He became director of athletics at Duke in 1998 and his impressive tenure there propelled the university into the ranks of America s top all-around collegiate programs. Among his outstanding list of accomplishments includes the greatest 10-year period in Duke Athletics, winning more ACC and NCAA championships than in any other decade in school history. Alleva, whose hometown is Suffern, N.Y., majored in Finance at Lehigh University and received his bachelor s degree in While at Lehigh, Alleva was the quarterback of the football team and team captain in Alleva also played on the Lehigh baseball team. He served as a graduate assistant football coach and earned an MBA in While at Duke, Alleva played a key role in Durham s community sports scene. He started Little League Baseball in Durham over 20 years ago, and also began the American Legion baseball program. He is a member of the North Carolina American Legion Hall of Fame, Suffern High School Hall of Fame and the Rockland County Hall of Fame. Alleva and his wife, Annie, have three children, J.D., Jeff, and Jenny. Joe and Annie recently welcomed their first grandchild, Harper, the daughter of Jenny and husband Kyle Young. 55
