The beat is on the River Taw in Devon and on the rear of each water colour there is a hand written description by Hopkins one signed FHP which reads "The Punch Bowl hole - On the Taw near the Southern Molton Road Station" and "The flat on the Taw near The Southern Molton Road Station" and in 1951 South Molton Road station was renamed Kings Nympton. These were illustrious opponents, but Bloxsom and Ferguson were unabashed and completed one of their rounds in 77, which stood as a record of the course for some time. Mrs Mary Stone, Bloxsom's granddaughter, has a very nice watercolour entitled The Punch Bowl, Hoylake which carries the inscription, Won from John Ball, July 1892', as a memento of this event. Estimate: Lot: 69 Unbelievable set of early Tom Morris St Andrews irons c1870 to include cleek, general iron, lofting iron, exquisite track iron, approach putter and a rare putter - all with Tom Morris oval stamp marks - fitted with period full length thick hide grips with underlisting - quite stunning collection and a rare opportunity to acquire a set of golf clubs from this most revered club maker. Note: Fergie Edinburgh was renowned bow maker to the Royal Company of Edinburgh Archers dating back to the early 1800s. Estimate: Lot: 72 D McEwen Musselburgh smooth faced rut iron I rut c head stamped with Condie rose cleek mark and fitted with 4.5" hosel and makers shaft stamp just below the fine original full length hide grip with underlisting and retailers silver plated engraved inlaid butt button. Lot: 73 Fine R Forgan and Son St Andrews rut iron c1880 stamped with the POWF to the head, 4.75" wide thick flat hosel and fitted with fine lemon wood shaft stamped with makers details just below the fine and original full length hide grip with underlisting - quite stunning Estimate: Lot: 74 R Forgan & Son St Andrews rut iron c1880 c/w 4.75" hosel, sharp neck crease and stamped with makers details just below the remains of the leather grip. Lot: 78 Early blacksmith general purpose iron c1860 fitted with rare dark stained period cork grip, unusual concave area to the heel and toe area, 5" oval hosel with a visible blacksmith seam crack - head measures 3.75" x 1 1/7" max.- re shafted hence virtually devoid of any nicking.
