93 Junior playing rights Junior Members under 21 have the same playing rights as 7 Day members except that: 1. On attaining a handicap of 12 or less, juniors may place their name on the Saturday booking sheet but not between a.m. and 12.30p.m. and not exceeding two juniors per group. The only exception to this is if they are placed in the field by the Professional 5 minutes prior to hit off. 2. Juniors with handicaps of 13 or greater may also play in the Saturday competition, provided that the following conditions are met: They are to advise the Professional of their availability and intention to play. Under NO circumstances are they permitted to write their names on the starting sheet. 94 Non Playing Member Persons purchasing shares in Thaxted Park Holdings but with no voting or playing rights in Thaxted Park Golf Club Incorporated. Social Members A person over 18 years of age with no voting or playing rights, but entitled to use the Clubhouse facilities. May play at a Members Guest rate. Resignation Any Member intending to withdraw from the Club shall signify his or her intention to do so in writing to the Secretary on or before September 1st or shall remain liable for the subscription for the ensuing year. Complaints Complaints regarding the Club s employees must not be made direct to the employee concerned, but complaints of this nature or any matter whatsoever must be made to the Manager. 95 Course Preservation Members, this is your course. Please assist in maintaining its condition by using sand buckets provided to fill in divots, repair plug marks thoroughly on greens and properly rake bunkers after use. Motor Bikes Requests for motor bikes must be applied for through the Match Committee in writing. After approval has been granted the vehicle must be inspected by the Captain. Course Staff Players at all times shall co-operate with the course staff and allow then to perform their tasks, eg players must wait while a green is being mown or a hole being changed. Children Children under the age of 8 years are not permitted on the course, unless accompanied by an Adult. Juniors under the age of 18 years are not permitted to purchase or consume alcoholic beverages. 95

96 Etiquette on the course 1. Members shall afford the President and Captain the courtesy of the first tee and shall extend such privilege on the other parts of the course. 2. In any game the player with the lowest handicap is deemed to be the Captain of that game and is responsible for the observance of all rules and etiquette. 3. Players must not walk up the face of any bunker. 4. Practice shots are not permitted: From any tee. From any fairway. On any green. 5. Members are to be fully acquainted with Section 1 of the Rules of Golf dealing with etiquette which covers such points as: a. Interference to a player when addressing the ball. b. Order of Play (honour) at the tee, etc. c. Safety - Players in front being out of range. d. Avoiding slow play. e. Calling through players when in difficulty. f. Calling through when there is a clear hole ahead. g. Smoothing out bunkers. h. Repairing divot and plug marks etc. i. Care with flagstick not to damage greens. j. Immediately leaving green after putting out. 96

97 k. Priority on the course for different types of match play. l. Damage to the greens by leaning on the putter to retrieve the ball from the hole. m. Damage to the hole by using the putter to retrieve the ball from the hole. 6. Where not applied by the computer, Members are requested to put their membership number, in the space provided on top of their scorecard. 7. Members guests using the course must be accompanied by a Member. An invited guest shall not have the right to use the course on more than six occasions in any year. 8. An invited guest must observe the rules of dress at all times. It is the Members responsibility to ensure that their guest adheres to the dress regulations of the Club. 9. Guests are not permitted on Saturdays without the permission of the President or Captain. 97

98 Dress regulations Men At all times members and guests are required to dress in a manner that will uphold the dignity of the Club and the game of golf on Club premises, which includes the course, clubhouse, practice putting and chipping greens and practice fairway, to the satisfaction of the Committee. Golfing attire is permitted in the sprig bar at all times. Shorts must be the dress or walk style, not the sports or gym style. Shirts with collars must be worn at all times and must not display advertising motifs or slogans other than designer or maker logos. Only shirts specifically designed for the purpose may be worn outside shorts or trousers. Except for evenings when the wearing of clean and tidy denim jeans are acceptable in the Clubhouse the wearing of denim jeans on the golf course is not permitted. 98

99 Footwear must be tidy and shoes must be worn in the lounge and dining areas except in hot weather when sandals may be worn with or without socks. Thongs or running shoes are not acceptable. It is expected that all dress shall be suitable and applicable to the game of golf. Ladies Members and their guests are requested to wear acceptable golf attire Not acceptable either on the course or in the club house are track suits, tank tops, sneakers, thongs, ugg boots, denim jeans or shorts (more than 6 above the knee when kneeling). These regulations also apply to casual and trade day visitors. 99

100 Local rules Local Rules and Temporary Local Rules are as printed on the Scorecard and on the Notice Board. Mens competition by-laws 1. The rules of the game of golf as adopted by the Royal Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, and local rules of Thaxted Park Golf Club shall apply. 2. All competitors are under the control of the Match Committee and its decisions shall be final. 3. Ties in any competition shall be decided in the manner prescribed by the Committee and will be indicated on the Notice Board before each competition. 4. Other than where special conditions apply, the GSA count-back system will be adopted. 5. All players have equal rights as per the booking sheet; however an event under the control of a referee may have precedence. 6. For competitions other than drawn events, starting times are to be booked by members on the time sheet provided. Competitors should be ready at the first tee five (5) minutes prior to time booked. Failure to be ready at the booked time may result in competitors being removed from the field. 7. Members may not compete in any competition unless his or her subscription is fully paid. 100

101 8. The Club Professional or, in his absence, some other person authorised by the Committee, will be in control of the first tee on all days to dispatch the field. The maximum of four per group must be observed at ALL times. 9. Members with handicaps MUST enter the Club competition on Saturdays. They must, therefore, have an official handicap to play or be playing for handicap 10. Competitors in all competitions must lodge their own score cards complete with name and current handicap, properly marked and signed by the marker and competitor, as soon as possible after the completion of the round. 11. Failure to comply with this rule in every respect will render the competitor ineligible for the trophy. 12. Competitors must return score cards for all individual events for handicapping purposes. 13. Handicap limit is 36 where competitors are played in grades. 14. A grade shall include players with handicaps from scratch (or better) to 12. B Grade with handicaps from 13 to 19 and C grade with handicaps from 20 to 36 provided also that the Golf Committee may vary the grades if considered necessary. 15. All handicapping will be carried out in accordance with the procedure laid down in the Handicapping Rules of Golf Australia. 101

102 16. Members are advised that it is their responsibility to inform the Handicapper immediately of any change incurred when playing at or as a Member of another Club. 17. Failure to do so will mean disqualification from winning a handicapped event unless the member has played off his new reduced handicap. 18. Unless otherwise authorised by the Match Committee, all matches in knock-out competitions must be completed on or before the dates specified and on current handicap. 19. No entry for drawn events will be accepted after the closing date of entries. Closing date for all such events will be shown on the entry sheet. 20. Players must not ride on any form of transportation during any gold leaf event unless supported by medical certificate and authorisation by the committee. 21. Gold leaf events are those events where the subsequent winner s names appear on the club honour boards. 22. A course record score can only be made in a stroke play competition with the holes and tees in their proper medal or championship positions. 102

103 23. A hole in one can only be recognised if a completed witnessed round was played. For it to be recognised on the Honour Board it must have been in an official club competition 24. The honour roll is only for members. 25. It is imperative that slow play does not impede the field. The Match Committee remains concerned at the effect slow play is having on the comfort of members games. The following time-saving measures will be taken: a. Walk immediately to your ball and play if there is no danger of personal injury. b. If held up in front, use this time to make club selection and practice swings. c. When reaching the green leave your bag handily placed for immediate movement to the next tee. d. Player with honour must hit before marking card. e. The maximum of four per group MUST be observed at ALL times. f. Players habitually offending by slow play will be penalised 2 strokes and placed at the end of the field by the Match Committee on competition days and on such other occasions as the circumstances may require. 103

104 Men s competitions with special conditions Schweppes Club Championships 36 Holes qualifying for eight positions. In the event of a tie for eighth position a play off immediately after qualifying will be conducted in a manner which will be determined by the Match Committee of the day. Quarter and Semi-finals are 18 hole match play with a final over 36 holes. Schweppes B and C Grade Championships 36 Holes qualifying for eight positions. In the event of a tie for eighth position a play off immediately after qualifying will be conducted in a manner which will be determined by the Match Committee of the day. Quarter and Semi-finals are 18 hole match play with a final over 27 holes for B Grade and 18 hole for C Grade. Schweppes Junior Championships Juniors under the age of 18 years may enter. The event will be conducted over 36 holes stroke in conjunction with the Club Championships qualifying. Club Foursomes Open stroke & nett event to be conducted over 18 holes for Club Foursomes. Mixed Foursomes To be conducted over 18 hole stroke. 104

105 Medallist Championship Any member to have won a monthly medal (nett stroke any grade) for the season is automatically nominated. N.D. Gill Driver Best Stableford score at commencement of Season. Captain s Trophy Top 16 best net (18 holes) qualify, followed by 1 st final, quarter final, semi-final & final. Handicap stroke matchplay over 18 holes. Lowest handicapper goes back to scratch. Frank Boswell Memorial Winter Cup Top 8 best Par (18 holes) qualify followed by quarter final, semi-final & final. Handicap stroke matchplay over 18 holes. Lowest handicapper goes back to scratch. Winter Eclectic - M.W. Stain Memorial Trophy The winner will be the player with the best nett score after deducting half their handicap at the close of the event. Competition runs from the 1st Saturday in May until the last Saturday in August. A master score sheet will be maintained on the notice board and weekly alterations from Saturday individual competitions will be made by the office only from the cards which have improved scores circled by the player and eclectic marked on the top. Seniors Trophy Best 36 hole net total during qualifying of Club Championships for 55 year olds and over. 105

At least one is to be a member of the Club and to win the event BOTH must have a recognised handicap. Langman Cup Qualifying round of better ball stableford, 8 pairs to qualify for handicap stroke match play. Lowest handicapper goes back to scratch B.F. Joyner Trophy 36 Holes scratch stroke event, to be run in conjunction with the Club Championships Marthax Shield Annual Ladies team competition played between Thaxted Park and The Vines played in alternate years at each course. Doug Graham Memorial Trophy Best nett stroke score Monthly Medal in June Ladies etiquette and general notes 1. Watch your Notice Board for alterations and additions to local rules and try to play with a different Member each week. 2. No one should move, talk or stand close to or directly behind the ball or the hole when a player is addressing the ball or making a stroke. 106

107 3. No player should play until the players in front are out of range. 4. Leave the green immediately after holing out. Mark card on the next tee. 5. Players searching for a ball should immediately allow other players coming up to pass them; they should signal to the players following them to pass and should not continue their play until those players have passed and are out of range. 6. Through the green, a player should ensure that any turf cut or displaced by her is replaced at once and pressed down and that after the players have holed out, any damage to the putting green made by any player is carefully repaired. 7. Be sure you are at the first tee five minutes prior to your hitting off time. Should you miss your time you must either wait for a vacancy or go to the end of the field. 8. Program subject to alteration at the Match Committee s discretion. Heat policy If the forecast temperature for Noarlunga on Channel 7 the night prior is for degrees the ladies competition will be reduced to 9 holes. If the forecast is 36 or more the competition will be cancelled 107

C Grade salver Four rounds of stroke play. 18 hole final. Finals format for Club Championships If more than 8 players complete both rounds of qualifying in a grade, the top 8 will qualify to play quarter finals. If 8 or less players complete the qualifying rounds, only 4 will qualify and play semi-finals. Course Closures The head groundsman is the sole arbitrator of a course closure when conditions adversely affect the course. The Ladies captain then has the power to cancel or reschedule Veterans trophy Best nett aggregate score in conjunction with qualifying rounds of Club Championship (65 years and over). Foursomes Championship Two rounds of stroke play. B & C Grade foursomes Two rounds of stroke play handicap foursomes winners best nett score. 108
