Project Vision: Create a thoroughly consistent golf course that respects the original William Gordon design and provides the highest quality golf possible. The improvements will value all elements of maintenance, playability, strategy, and aesthetics.

Greens, Greens, Greens Sunnybrook Golf Club Our Project Goals: Focus on the recurring putting surface problems Maintain original contours whenever possible Revert previous renovations to create a unified style Respect the wonderful William Gordon layout Protect the classic nature of the golf course and restore or recreate Gordon-like golf features where possible BE COMPREHENSIVE of all potential improvements Avoid costly mistakes and a short term view of the golf course s s future Create a long range plan for the preservation of the course over time Create thorough documentation to help guide the club in planning for the foreseeable future

Comprehensive Golf Course Plan: Project Outline Study all greens to define their original shape and record their original contours. Suggest ways revert previous changes to create a consistent, Gordon-like set of greens Study tee location and setup flexibility Examine bunker location, size, and strategy Adjust fairway grassing lines to improve hole presentation Suggest modifications to cart paths to improve all weather access s and maintenance while reducing visual impact. Create a tree management plan Address drainage issues throughout the golf course

Comprehensive Golf Course Plan:

Summer 2007 Project Rebuild all greens to USGA specifications Core-out out and rebuild all original greens - #1, 2, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 14, 16, 17, and 18 Revert previously renovated greens to fit Sunnybrook s original style - #3, 5, 11, 13, and 15 Expand the putting green - Current size = 5,500 sf - Proposed size = 8,500 sf Rebuild all greenside bunkers - Build 34 bunkers to the highest modern construction standard - Create a consistent bunker style Remove re-circulating stream from the front of the 16 th green - Recreate Gordon s s original design - Improve drainage in the fairway Shift the 4 th Green back back to take full advantage of the quarry - Rebuild #5 Tees

Summer 2007 Project: Why? Changes in Green Height and Green Speed 2000 s Club Play 2000 s US Open 8/100 1/ s Club Play 1/4

Summer 2007 Project: Why?

Greens: Project Goals - - Protect original green contours - Modify cupping areas only as needed - Recapture any lost green space - Provide the highest quality growing conditions - surface drainage, airflow, profile spec, etc. - Revert the previously renovated greens to a more consistent (Gordon-like) design

Greens: Design Process - 1) Review all historic documents - Gordon s original greensheets - Other photos and plans 2) Accurately record all existing grades on the greens 3) Define any lost green space 4) Complete a thorough slope analysis to evaluate cupping area 5) Make plans for reverting previous changes to greens: #3, 5, 11, 13, 15, and 16

Remaining Long Range Plan Goals: Tees: - Create maximum course setup flexibility - Provide only efficient tee space (eliminate currently wasted tee space) - Properly align tees with the intended landing area - Plan for added length where possible - Address forward tee needs throughout the golf course - Use tees where possible to improve hole presentation (tees in a line, elevations, etc.) Fairways: -Restore fairway width - Bring fairways closer to the tees - Make the fairways more visible (contrast and definition) - Lock fairways into adjacent golf features Fairway Bunkers: - Add or adjust fairway bunkers to create strategy and better define the golf holes Tree Management: - Remove all trees necessary to protect the Club s investment in the greens renovation - Provide direction for tree removal and planting throughout the property - Remove excess trees (*evergreens*) to create vistas down the line of play and across the property - Suggest planting on the inside of the DR and along the property boundaries to block unsightly views as needed

Remaining Long Range Plan Goals: Drainage - Provide direction for improved drainage along major drainage ways that bisect the golf course - Limit drain inlets around the green and in the fairway whenever possible to maintain Sunnybrook s older style Practice Facilities - Expand the putting green - Maximize usable grass tee space -take advantage of all opportunities to provide the best tee area for maintenance and traffic -utilize some kind of sand based growing medium and underdrainage - Provide better defined, exciting targets on the driving range - Suggest addition of all weather hitting stations Cart Path - Create an efficient non-continuous cart path system at the tee and greens - Extend paths where necessary to get traffic away from heavy use and/or wet areas - Turn cart path entrances/exits away from the line of play to distribute wear - Hide cart paths from view at every opportunity
