4 NIST GOLF LEAGUE 2017 GOLF OUTING RESULTS As a result of the survey we did a few years ago, the two courses selected for the outings in 2017 received highest votes. The first outing was held on June 2, 2017, at the PB Dye Golf Course in Ijamsville. Twenty-six players participated in this outing and the results are below: Team 3: Will Osborne, Brian Bush (MVP), Shin Muramoto, John Pettibone : Final score -8 (64) Team 2: Larry Bassham (MVP), Carter Montgomery, Perry Konecke : Final score -5 (67) Team 4: Darren Lowe (MVP), John Garguilo, Robert Toense, Bob Watters : Final score -5 (67) Team 5: Terry Sorcek, Michael Teske (MVP), Mike Martin : Final score -5 (67) Team 1: Sharon Keller, Randy Keller (MVP), Les Slaback, Len Gebase : Final score -3 (69) Team 6: Michael LaRue, Mark Etter, Jeff Hoerl (MVP), Ann Leith : Final score -1 (71) Team 7: Charles Gibson Sr (MVP), Charles Gibson Jr, John Rumble, Bob Fletcher: Final score +2 (74) Mike Martin won the closest to the pin contest on hole #11. Congratulations to Team 3 for placing first, and Teams 2, 4, and 5 who tied for 2nd through 4 th place. The second outing was held on October 16, 2017, at Musket Ridge Golf Course in Myersville. This is value A. Add 12 to the player's Handicap Index at the end of the season. This is value B. Divide value A by value B, calculating to three decimal places. This is the improvement factor. The player with the highest improvement factor should receive the most improved player award. Example: Starting Handicap Index: 22.6 Ending Handicap Index: 17.4 Value A: = 34.6 Value B: = 29.4 A / B: 34.6 / 29.4 = Improvement Factor: Continue this process for every player who improved during the year. The player with the highest improvement factor is the most improved player. Note: Add 6* instead of 12 in the case of a nine hole Handicap Index (N). *The numbers 6 and 12 have been determined by the USGA as equitable in gauging the improvement of players encompassing the entire spectrum of handicaps. For example, it is relatively the same improvement factor to go from a 20.0 to a 10.0 Handicap Index (improvement factor of 1.454) as it is to go from a 5.0 to a scratch, or zero Handicap Index (improvement factor of 1.416), yet the change in Handicap Index is "10" (20 10) versus "5" (5 0) strokes. The numbers of 6 and 12 take into consideration the level of a player's improvement rather than the net change in Handicap Index. 10
