Allington Castle Archers Nocking Point May 2016 Dates for your diary Sunday 22 nd May President s Trophy 10:00 for 10:30 th Sunday 15 May MKL Away at Medway 10:30 for 11:00 Sighters School field available from the 30th May to 3rd June -1-

FROM THE CHAIR The first of the Club s summer tournaments has been shot (winners listed below). Regarding Club Tournament days, the Committee has ruled that no other shooting will be permitted whilst the tournament is being shot. No problem at all if you wish to enjoy a late afternoon/evening shoot, but this will have to wait until after presentations and the field cleared. May I ask Members to review etiquette procedures. Just google archery etiquette and acquaint yourself if you are not aware. These are not rules as such but consideration in most part for other archers. We have equipment lines and tent lines marked on the field once more. Use of the tent line is fairly obvious. Bows are to be left behind the equipment line unless actually in use. SHOOTING STARS Chairman s Cup Congrats to Ian Lamprell, Deryck Leach, Barry Ruck and Ron King who won their respective classes. Mike and Kathy White won the Newman Trophy. Christine Bearman and yours truly got the Les Barrett awards for pure scores. Well done to the following members who all got medals at the Swan mud-shoot. Warwick Drew, Malcolm Evans, Dan Heasman and June Mansfield. ACA members also did really well at the Tonbridge Birthday shoot recently. Stuart Evans came 4 th in the St George (only 5 points away from 1 st ), Ian Lamprell won the Albion and Gary Graham 3 rd. Sue Williams and June Mansfield came 1 st and 2 nd in the longbow Windsor. Jo Graham and June Mansfield 1 st and 2 nd in the handicap and to top it all, Ian Lamprill, Jo Graham and June Mansfield won the team handicap! Ian Sharp, Chairman ********************** Secretaries Sidelines Have you ever thought of becoming an Archery Judge? The sport needs archers who are prepared to give up some time to making sure tournaments run properly and to help archers maximise their scores. The County (and the area) is in need of more Judges so if you are interested get in touch with one at the next shoot and have a chat. Or contact Mark Davis via his address as the Treasurer of KAA, the address is detailed on the website. Beginners Course Conclusion The course is over, welcome to the new Members, and now there is more to learn. We could not cover everything as there might be information overload. Existing members, although, I probably do not need to ask, please would you make everyone welcome, and assist them in learning more to enhance what they have learnt already. Warm Spring and Summer Days (Remember those?) At our grounds, you will likely be aware that wearing bright colours such as our Yellow shirts, can sometimes attract the local bug life. So, please take care by covering up and if you wish use bug repellent

As when undertaking archery we can be static and in a similar position for relatively long periods of time you might also want to ensure you have sun protection, hats, turned up collars on polo shirts, and sun protection lotions. Please do not dehydrate, drink a suggestion is around 20% Orange Juice diluted with 80% water for those of you not allergic to Orange Juice. Drink between ends of arrows, do not wait until you are thirsty. Affiliation Cards ( Orange ones ) When you receive your Archery GB affiliation cards. Please display these cards when shooting at our Club. They will also be necessary should you undertake any external shoots. There is a discount when showing these at Cotswold Outdoors (Thanks to Mr Derrick Lovell MBE) Feedback relating to the Archery GB AGM You may already know that Mrs Trish Lovell was elected President of Archery GB. However, for those that do not already know I will tell you this in this paragraph. The Archery GB AGM, which was held on the 16 th of April 2016, has a few changes to the affiliation fees, in particular for Juniors, Under 25 year olds, and people with Disability. Additionally, there are to be changes to the pro rata payments due throughout the year. There is more information on the Archery GB website : #.Vx4EK3rYGUk Insurance (More information on the Archery GB website) Another bit of news is relating to Archery GB insurance. Typically it only covers you when in the UK, and whilst shooting at Tournaments or Club venues, which are affiliated to Archery GB and adhering to the rules of Archery GB. If you go abroad and wish to shoot, there are a number of elements that you need to ensure: 1) You arrange your own cover for insurance purposes to permit you to undertake Archery in the country that you are visiting and wish to participate in a shoot. 2) That you shoot at a Club that is affiliated to the National Governing Body of archery in that country, which in turn is affiliated to World Archery. There are special rules for members of the Archery GB international teams who will likely have their own special arrangements. Should a team from a Club affiliated to Archery GB be invited to another country, and have the visit minuted, and the invite documented, then it may be possible via the membership services for Archery GB to extend the insurance to the team. However, for individual members, undertaking their own shoots abroad, then they will need to ensure they have adequate insurance cover. Anyone entering our Open Tournaments, not a member of Archery GB membership, would need to be a member of an Archery National Governing Body, which is affiliated to World Archery, and also submit their insurance details for verification by the - 3 -

Tournament Organiser, and the Club Secretary. More information : #.VyKUIUe0yUk New Membership Applications From our Beginners Course Juniors : Paddy Laverty, Charlie Mitchell, Daniel Checksfield Seniors : Clive Cheeseman, Ray MacClean, Gregory Jackson, Mark Price. [ also Tony Rogers and Gill Rogers have indicated that they wish to join on Saturday 30 th April 2016 ] Associate Members : Naomi Smith Larry Spencer Sarah Spencer Dom ***************** Captain s Corner A busy month April, Chairman s Cup, 1 st MKL, Beginners course, Crystal Palace, the Hurricane LB, Tonbridge shoot, not to mention the KAF work day. May is not much quieter, KAA invitation, KAA Unsighted Champs, KAF3 Unmarked WA, ACA President s Trophy, start of 70m league, MKL at Medway and Gravesend Jubilee shoot. MKL Match at home, all archers welcome. We had quite a day of it as HBV had an away bye and asked us if they could join us. Lots of targets just like a Tommy Wyatt. The weather was kind and a good day was had by all. We managed to win both pure score and handicap v Sevenoaks. We will see how we did v the rest of the MKL teams soon. Next match is away and if you want to shoot let me know as there is a limit of 12 archers. As you will be representing the club please, we request you to abide by the Archery GB dress code, NO Denim, Camo or Olive drab, Green and White or Club Colours please. This also applies to ACA Internal events. Thank You. One other thing on protocol, IF YOU SHOOT YOU HELP PUT OUT THE EQUIPMENT AND IF YOU SHOT YOU HELP PUT IT AWAY. THANK YOU. One major clash with the President s Trophy and the Unsighted KAA Champs. I will be going to the KAA event, so Sue Williams will be Field Captain for the day. A few things not right on the Calendar in April caused some confusion on the school field - sports events during the beginning of April which we did not know about. Also the holidays went on till 11 th

May need to expand calendar to include all weekdays and possibly do a version that is outlook based. Crystal Palace shoot Sunday 17 th April, I have been to this shoot for the last four years and met up with lots of old friends, longbow mainly. The day was very crisp to say the least but bright, light wind. No real excuses on that topic then. So what was the excuse, well first 12 doz round of the year, so early in the season. A good entry from ACA, Jo and Garry Graham, Malcolm and Stuart Evans, Carlos and Jose Bolou. Met up with Alf Kershaw, and as I said a few longbows. A good day but out not the best scores for a Record Status Rose Award event. Got cold at the end and completely out on my feet, had to head home as soon as the shooting finished. 6 Three finger slings From Karen ********************* 1.00 each *********************** Colin s Coaching Tips New Members Record Officers Report The 2016 Outdoor season is now well underway. So far up to Saturday 23 rd April, there have been 75 qualifying scores submitted, which is pretty good going considering the Siberian weather we have had. Of these 10 were at Bowman, 33 at 1st Class, 10 at 2 nd Class and 10 at 3 rd Class level. There have been a few outstanding rounds, Sue's longbow 147 Long National was 38 points above the Bowman score and Carlos shot a superb recurve 473 New National, more than 40 points above Bowman. Best handicap improvements so far are by Sue and Michael White who have both improved by 3. Don't forget if you shoot a round, either at the field or an outside competition, then let me have the scores so that the record can be as accurate as possible. Colin Symonds *********************** June Mansfield 252 Badge Scheme Claims so far; 20yds - Kathy White-Rec, Mike White- B/B 30yds - Dan Simmonds-Rec, Mark Chisholm-Rec 40yds Kathy White-Rec 60yds - Ian Sharp-Rec Correct procedure when you first join a Club!!!! Please arrive at am on Saturday and/or Sunday morning so that you can help to put out targets and be issued with your equipment all at the same time. We all want to shoot after am and will not be very pleased to be interrupted by you wanting help setting up your gear! Arriving when convenient to you will not do 1. You need a target at 20yards to qualify at this distance (3doz. / 250 score) Use the score sheets in your folder, not your mobile or tablet or other electronic device. When you have achieved this using a pen not a pencil ask a coach or senior archer to sign your score sheet. Score sheets are set out in DOZENS ON EACH LINE. Your phone does it wrongly, in sixes. All arrow must be recorded. Misses are M. and each set of six are in order of size and batches of 3 eg / M 27 / 12hits score 61 golds 1 Running total RT 2 Now move on to 30 YDS Juniors score less at each distance 3 When you have qualified at 40 shoot a round ( Warwick 4doz, National 6 dozen). 4 Now to start coaching. The most important part of any shot is keep your - 6 -

bow arm still after the shot until the arrow hits the target. Some points to be noted by all archers 1. Visitors should be brought along by members who are responsible for ensuring that fees are paid. Please do not tell friends that they can come along on their own and shoot as long as they show their affiliation card. 2 Associate members are not issued with keys and are expected to fit in with times when full members are present. Mostly shooting is on Saturday and Sunday morning and Tuesday and Thursday evening in the summer. It is wise to check that someone will be there before setting out. 3. The calendar shows times of arrival and archers should make every effort to keep to these times. 4. On Saturday 30 th of April Dominic was dealing with new Members joining so I found myself once again dealing with five new Members on my own. What is the point of having lots of coaches if they are not available when required. Thank you Colin Symonds who had the sense to see that I needed help. Sorry about the rant folks but it s no change for the last five or more years. The old man is fed up!! Colin B
