Think of how these results apply to your interests. Some of you may wish to make use of this information before our studies are complete and published. Also, your comments about this research may help us decide where emphasis on future research should be placed. Answers to turf questions never fall into place easily. It has been said that "good research generates more questions than it answers." Finding a solution to simple questions may require many years of research and might still give only limited answers. Moreover, opportunities in developing new varieties and better management practices abound. Obviously, we can't show you all of our research in one day. Some of our research and other trials are in greenhouses, laboratories, and at outlying locations including golf courses and roadsides.

2 SUGGESTIONS FOR OBSERVING AND INTERPRETING TURFGRASS RESEARCH 1. To see all that is offered today you should stay with one group (red, white, or blue pennant) throughout the tours so that you will not miss a stop. 2. You can find each of the test sites marked by the tall numbered stake as listed on page 4 for July 26th and page 12 for July 27th. 3. Pick out the best treatments for each test, but do not overlook the assortment of poor treatments. These may not be as interesting, but they tell you about a lot of things that you should not use on your turf. 4. Remember, things may happen in our research plots or on your turf areas that may not commonly occur every year. Thus, when dealing with new treatments, look for assurance that they work consistently, or find out why inconsistencies occur. 5. Go back to your notes about long-term research tests that you have seen to determine if previously noted varieties or treatments are still exhibiting the same results. Also, check to make sure you recall your previous observation correctly. 6. Remember also that our soil and management practices (including traffic, slope, and age of turf) may differ from your conditions, so your experiences may not always agree with ours. 7. If you do not see a particular grass or turf treatment on the plots, do not assume that researchers have overlooked that item. Researchers have time to do only a small fraction of the things they would like to study. So if you have any suggestions, feel free to discuss your ideas with us during field day.
