2.) Briefly describe your involvement in the promotion and development of youth golf at the club level and within the community: Our youth program has become a focal point of community pride and a beehive of activity at Kingwood Country Club. Much of this enthusiasm is centered around the PGA Junior League Golf success. I and my staff have poured ourselves into this wonderful program and through our team efforts, the popularity of the program and the enthusiastic support of the players and their families, we have seen it fuel tremendous growth in youth golf here in Kingwood. We also use various camps, playdays and the PGA JLG has avenues to bring kids to the game, and then bring the game to them so they can continue to enjoy golf and all the positive benefits it provides. We have formed a strong partnership with the Kingwood Men s Golf Association in which we established a junior golf fund to help us in the purchase of teaching aids, they help us score matches in our 13U league games, and they purchase lunches for our juniors at our club championship. The crowning achievement of this partnership is that in 2016 we have created a $1000 scholarship for a Senior Boy and Senior girl at Kingwood who have been a part of any of our junior golf programs. This as a sample of junior programs available: Five Year Old Active Start After school Clinics: 10U & 14U / Competitive Edge Seasonal Camps: Spring Break, Summer Camps, Winter Blast High School Drills and Skills Drive, Chip & Putt Prep Clinics PGA Junior Leagues: Spring Prep, 13u Prep & Select, 16U Monthly playdays : 3, 5, 9 hole modified, 9 Red and white tee divisions Off Campus Physical Education program for middle and high school students 3.) Briefly describe your image and leadership in the area of youth golf and the nominee s overall integrity: When I first began coaching golf, my primary stated goal was to bring more young girls to the game that did so much for me. I believe that golf can instill so many positive character traits such as honesty, integrity, responsibility, and most importantly confidence. I believed, and still do, that through teaching and coaching golf, I could help juniors who so aspired reach specific life goals, specifically college scholarships. I have since expanded this to include boys as well. What I believe it is that sets me apart is that I don t teach a system. Sure, I always begin with fundamentals, but apart from that, the secret to my success with juniors is the personal connection I am able to make with each one of them and their families. Being a successful leader of junior golfers is dependent on understanding that the golfer and the family form a team. That includes siblings as well as parents. I am ceaselessly amazed at the number of younger sisters and brothers who take up the game because they come out to the practice facility and see how much fun their older sister or brother is having.

4.) Describe how you inspire fellow PGA Professionals and promote the game of golf: As with all my fellow PGA and LPGA professionals who work endless hours at their clubs to make their facilities better, we find through trial and error that some things work efficiently and some can fail miserably. With much reluctance in 2012 due to time and lack of spending time with my family I started a team of twelve player including my daughter to start a PGA Junior League Golf team. With much surprise this lead to our team representing Team Texas at the National PGA JLG Championship. This has lead to an indescribable level of excitement and growth of junior golf in our community. After coaching another Texas Team who made it to nationals in 2014, and having 121 juniors who participated in three different leagues in Kingwood, the PGA of America has recognized me to be a good representative of a hard working professional in the industry by asking me to participate in videos, speaking engagements, and other media. I could not ever imagined that my career would lead to this type of recognition, nor am I naturally comfortable with it. But as I have been asked to do these things, I have found it has enabled me to further expand my outreach and possibilities to bring more and more kids to this wonderful game. I cannot do all of these programs on my own, nor would I ever accept this award without the much appreciated help from my equally important co worker, friend and fellow LPGA Class A Teaching Professional Lori Tatum to share it. I was very successful in creating and running many of the classes from When Lori re joined the instructional staff at Kingwood and I was named the Director of Instruction, we were able to grow the junior classes easily since we shared the same passion of teaching kids the game. We are so excited to see our juniors grow physically and mentally in the game of golf and in life. We know we are changing many of our kids and many of their family members through this game we love. 5.) 10 Name: Christy Longfield PGA Classification: A-6 Facility: Spanish Oaks Year Elected to Membership in the PGA: ) Briefly describe your contributions to youth golf programs in the STPGA and on a national basis including service as a chairperson or as a member of the Junior Golf Committee: The Southern Texas PGA has one of the strongest junior programs in our Association. I consider one of my greatest assets as a Golf Professional to be the junior golf networking opportunities that our Section provides. Much of my professional growth is due to the professional relationships I have formed with other coaches and instructors within the Southern Texas Section. Through these networking relationships we are able to share ideas and best practices that can be applied toward existing programs or provide the opportunity to develop new programs to spur growth. Without this great group of passionate colleagues dedicated to junior golf in the STPGA, our kids could not be the strong players they are today. I am honored to serve as a member of the STPGA Junior Golf Committee. This special committee s sole focus is junior golf and growing the game at the youth level. While golf is a global game, as a committee member, I take pride in focusing growth at the youth level. Focus within this category of player is vital to the continued growth of golf as a whole, as these kids will be our future players, club members, and customers. 2.) Briefly describe your involvement in the promotion and development of youth golf at the club level and within the community: As the Head Teaching Professional at Spanish Oaks Golf Club, I have the great pleasure of leading the Junior Golf Program.Spanish Oaks has seen continued growth in its Junior Performance Program (JPP). We recognized the need for a more comprehensive instructional strategy that could accommodate the significant growth at Spanish Oaks, so in 2015 JPP was born. While using some of the best principals from other successful youth golf programs, coupled with the organization of other competing sports and activities, we created a structured, motivating, and fun program geared toward powering long-term golf learning in juniors. Our coaches develop each child%u2019s game through experiences in playing, learning the game, receiving feedback through coaching, and developing abilities through hard work. Two new highly successful golf activities introduced in 2016 were PGA Jr. League and Operation36 Matches. These activities brought all of our player s hard work to fruition by taking it to the field and testing the skills they ve learned. The social impact was huge! The scaled golf course became a comfortable and fun place for shooting personal bests, matches against friends, team matches against kids from other courses, and challenges at different courses we might not otherwise get to see. Through these, competitive experiences, some of our players have developed not only a love for the game, but a love for competing as well. Feeling comfortable on the field and under the heat of competition, they are ready to explore individual events. This was our favorite year yet!

3.) Briefly describe your image and leadership in the area of youth golf and the nominee s overall integrity: I have had the honor to hold many roles throughout my career as a Golf Professional in our industry and would consider instruction to be my true passion. I was introduced to golf at a young age through golf clinics held at a local golf course. I spent every summer as a youngster attending clinics that taught me the fundamentals of the game and the history and camaraderie of golf. I am thankful for and credit experiences like those to my successes in the industry today. The kids of Spanish Oaks have many options when it comes to extra-curricular activities. Without early exposure to the game, many kids would never take up our sport. My passion for golf is what drives me each day to create an atmosphere at Spanish Oaks that is full of excitement for learning, appreciation for rules and etiquette, and having fun! Whether it is getting the ball in the air, making a birdie for the first time or a first place finish in a prestigious event, I am honored to share in the celebration with the students I coach each and every day. On any given day at Spanish Oaks I can be found on the lesson tee, in small group instruction, playing a few holes with players prepping for tournaments, creating fun games at the chipping green between lessons, and high fiving great shots on the practice tee. There is nothing greater than seeing a great shot and the smile or fist pump that follows it. Golf is truly the greatest game and I have the best job! 4.) Describe how you inspire fellow PGA Professionals and promote the game of golf: Through leadership and teamwork, the Spanish Oaks Junior Golf Program has seen growth beyond imagination. As the Head Teaching Professional, I always strive to lead by example. By exuding enthusiasm and passion for the game, I can motivate and inspire the team around me. I encourage those around me to find their passion, whatever it may be, and challenge themselves on ways to be more creative, successful, efficient, and inspiring. I believe that there is never too much growth in knowledge and learning on any subject that one is passionate about. I study the game and it%u2019s history fervently. I reach out to other Golf Professionals to share ideas on improving instruction, best practices, and alternative methods of teaching. I am thankful for the inspiration that I have gained from other instructors and mentors for not only my professional development, but personal growth as well. Sharing what I study and have learned allows my team to gain knowledge in an area they may not otherwise study. As a team, we bring different experiences and knowledge together for growth and strength. With the leadership of our Director of Golf, I am excited for the future and continued success of golf instruction at Spanish Oaks Golf Club. 5.) 18 Name: Brian McMyler PGA Classification: A-6 Facility: The Dominion Year Elected to Membership in the PGA: ) Briefly describe your contributions to youth golf programs in the STPGA and on a national basis including service as a chairperson or as a member of the Junior Golf Committee: A number of my jr students participate in the STPGA jr golf tournaments throughout the year. I promote and recommend to all my tournament ready jrs to play with the STPGA. I educate my students that the STPGA programs are the best, most affordable way to play tournament golf. For the past two years, I have been the head coach of The Dominion PGA Jr League golf team. We won our league this year, so I had the privilege of being the head coach of our leagues all star team. I have been running a jr golf team for the past 13 years. The first 9 years I developed the team at Canyon Springs and for the last 4 years I have started and developed the Dominion junior golf team. Its great to see the PGA and STPGA getting behind junior team programs. For the past two years, I have encouraged our juniors to try out for the Drive Chip and Putt competition. It has been exciting to see them do well and one of my juniors has advanced to the regionals this year. 2.) Briefly describe your involvement in the promotion and development of youth golf at the club level and within the community: My entire career of teaching has been with a focus on junior golf. I have always had a junior golf program while working at both Canyon Springs and The Dominion. These programs are not only summer camps but a year round junior golf team and afterschool class. A majority of my individual lessons are also junior golfers. After our first year of the PGA Junior League at The Dominion, I was one of the local professionals to organize an interclub program to play year round team golf. This has been a great success and will be a part of my junior team program for years to come. We play two person scrambles with 3 age divisions. The top winning teams in each division earn points for their clubs overall team score. The kids love the format and enjoy being part of a golf team experience.. I just finished my 26th year of teaching summer golf camps. This past summer we had 10 weeks of summer camps at The Dominion with 125 kids attending. Our summer camps are open to members and the public so we have a number of kids from the local community who are able to learn how to play golf at The Dominion.

3.) Briefly describe your image and leadership in the area of youth golf and the nominee s overall integrity: I grew up playing golf and love the game. I want my image to be a role model for young kids and to get them excited about playing golf. I also hope that parents of juniors feel confident that I will be a the best choice to get their kids playing golf. I was recently told by a member at The Dominion that I was a \"Pied Piper\" because I always seemed to have a line of kids following me around to play golf. I have always supported junior golf because I truly believe it is a game that teaches so many lessons in life. I hope my image is that I am a promoter of the game of golf. 4.) Describe how you inspire fellow PGA Professionals and promote the game of golf: I have been teaching predominately junior golfers for the last 26 years and it is a passion of mine. During that time, I have developed and run successful junior golf programs. I have had a number of fellow golf professionals ask me for advise on how to run and improve their junior golf programs. I have mentored and encouraged other golf professionals to teach their wisdom and love of the game to other juniors by making the game exciting. The best way to do this is to incorporate fun games and team competitions. I have also inspired other golf professionals to give juniors other opportunities to participate in year round golf activities instead of just summer programs. 5.) 21 2016 STPGA YOUTH PLAYER DEVELOPMENT AWARD APPILCATION Susie Redman Phone PGA Classification PGA Member A-6 Facility The Woodlands Country Club Year Elected to Membership of PGA of America Briefly describe your contributions to youth golf programs in the STPGA and on a national basis including service as a chairperson or as a member of the Junior Golf Committee. Over the past 6 years I have worked very closely with the STPGA and The Woodlands Country Club to develop, implement and execute many of the initiatives targeted by the PGA of America Golf 2.0 as well as Golf 20/20. My specific area of focus has been Junior Development and programs targeting women and girls. I had the great fortune of working closely with Kelly Gilley and Thomas Hutton in the early roll out of PGA Junior League, Get Golf Ready (for women) and several other programs designed to get more women and girls playing golf. More recently it has come to my attention that we are seeing a significant decline in our youth participating in sports, including golf. The long term implications of this trend are very serious for the longevity, cognitive development and long term health today s youth. Several reasons have been cited. Much of it is tied to a lack of physical competence, leading to low confidence, ultimately creating a lack of motivation to participate. The good news is that there are a couple of organizations that have begun to take action. It has been driven primarily by our neighbors to the North (Canada). The organization that is taking the lead is Canadian Sport for Life (CS4L). The group is lead by two great sport scientists, Istvan Balyi, the father or Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) and Dr Dean Krillaars who is the father of Physical Literacy. In 2015, The Aspen Institute adopted the Physical Literacy idea and has gained the support of the US Olympic Committee, The Presidents Council of Fitness, The US Surgeon General, The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation as well as most of the National Governing Bodies for sports in the US. The Aspen Institute teamed up with Nike and in May of this year, they introduced The 8 Plays at their Project Play Summit. 1. Ask Kids What They Want. 2. Reintroduce Free Play. 3. Encourage Sport Sampling. 4. Revitalize In-Town Leagues. 5. Think Small. 6. Design for Development. 7. Train All the Coaches. 8. Emphasize Prevention. These 8 Plays have provided me a clear direction and higher purpose to my work and programs. I have spent a significant amount of time studying and skilling myself on the work of these two organizations. I will touch of a few of them in the sections below.

2. Briefly describe your involvement in the promotion and development of youth golf at the club level and within the community. Much of the work I am doing currently is done at the club and community level. Here are a few of the major programs that I ran in Girls Golf Squads (Design for Development, Think Small, Reintroduce Free Play, Encourage Sports Sampling, Physical Competence, Inclusion) Girls Golf Squads is a year round program that targets young girls in golf. It is a year round developmental program. It is an inclusive program broken down by age. The groups are small. Each session has time dedicated to Physical Literacy/Movement Preparation, some golf specific training and when time allows, some time for Free Play. These girls are also encouraged to participate in other sports/activities. Many of the girls come on a regular basis while others just drop in from time to time. Either way, the structure of the program allows the girls to improve their physical skills, golf skills and develop strong friendships that bind them to each other and the game. The programs run most weekends throughout the year. It is probably the most popular program I run. LPGA/USGA Girls Golf Rocks (Community, Inclusion, Friendship, Values, Leadership, Mentorship) This year, in celebration of golf s return to the Olympics, the LPGA/USGA Girls Golf Rocks ran a themed initiative called a race to Rio. The Girls Golf Rocks program runs year round. The group is made up of Girls below 18 years of age and targets girls at WCC and is open to girls in our local community. It promotes girls involvement in golf, values and leadership/mentorship opportunities for the older girls in the program. I am a site director for this program and have been running it for the last 7 years. Each October for the last 3 years, we host a Girls Golf Expo at the WCC Palmer Course. Carol Mann is my partner in this event. The event is well attended. Over 250 girls have participated in the event over the last 3 years. This year we also had the great fortune of having Olympic Golfer Maria Verchenova spend time with the girls in our program while she was training at WCC in her run up to the Olympics. Social Media (What Kids Want, Awareness, Community) Today s youth are very connected to others through their social media communities. One of the best ways to stay connected and engaged with them is through Social Media. Over the past months, I have gone to work on building a Social Community for the junior golfers at WCC and their parents. It has developed a wide following. This year, I ran several programs via social media. Here are a couple of the most popular. Daily Post- Most days I post a picture or two of the juniors on our Facebook account who have come out to participate. The kids love performing and showing what they know in a picture or video. It is not uncommon to get likes for these posts. Junior Golf Tips/Rules- One of the most fun posts we do is the Junior Golf Tip and Rules. These tips are actually done by the junior gofers while they are training. These tips normally attract a high amount of traffic and it is not uncommon to get likes and watches.

Themed Initiatives- Roughly every 6 weeks, I will introduce a new theme or initiative. My most recent girl s golf theme was called Let s Get Girls Golfing (LG3). I have also used this platform to raise awareness among our juniors and their parents. One of these was a call out to raise funds for Dominic Larkin. Dominic is James Larkin s youngest son. James is an instructor on our staff. Earlier thus year, Dominic had an accident in a hot tub that landed him in the ICU at Memorial Hermann Children s Hospital for over 90 days. During that time James was unable to work and we mobilized our social network to provide updates on Dominic s condition and emotional support to James and his family. Using the social platform, I launched an initiative called Juniors Golfing Together for a Cause that brought our social community together for a greater purpose. I used that initiative to organize a one day fund raiser for James and his family that netted $ The funds were given to the Larkins on behalf of this online social community. 3. Briefly describe your image and leadership in the area of youth golf and your overall integrity. I view myself as a junior golf specialist. I believe that coaching juniors requires specialized knowledge that includes a developmental pathway, skill acquisition and the design of developmentally appropriate programs. Information in this area is rapidly evolving. I also recognize that to be an effective junior coach, I must study and push myself to keep up. Golf s inclusion in the 2016 Olympics now provides us with access to information on juniors and junior development that was previously not possible. As a result, we are beginning to see major stake holders in sport working together to provide individuals, organizations and institutions with current and relevant information. At the highest levels information sharing is occurring and the experts from around the world are working synergistically to contribute to the collective knowledge base. The best junior coaches today are actively seeking out this information and actively participating in this process. I am both interested and passionate about being a great junior coach. In an effort to keep up with the latest information, I have attended the following seminars/conferences. - Positive Coaching Alliance (2014,2016) - Developing a World Class Junior Program (Dr Rick Jensen and Henry Brunton 2014) - US Kids Coach Certification (2014, 2016) - Canadian Sport for Life (2015,2016) - Physical Literacy Webinars (2015,2016) - LPGA National Teaching Summit (2016) The information, experience and contacts that come from these events have provided me with a strong foundation to stand on. It also provides me a tremendous framework that drives my decisions and programming. I also feel that it has boosted my belief/confidence in myself which allows me to build/strengthen my personal brand/image in the market place. Lastly, as we move into the future, it makes me uniquely qualified to lead and add value to my fellow coaches and the athletes in our program.

4. Describe how you inspire fellow Professionals and promote the game of golf. I have an unanswered question that drives my work. How can I make it better? One of the great challenges we face in the game of golf is inclusion. It is my belief that participation is the tide that raises all the ships. The future of the game is in our hands. Our ability to grow the game depends on our ability to understand and address this issue. The programs and initiatives I design are done so with this in mind. I understand that inclusion is not a popular or well accepted belief but my concern is that if we are not able to solve/resolve this issue, the future of golf will be negatively affected. Something about that does not set well with me. My hope is that as I interact with the athletes, parents, fellow coaches and administrators, I can convey this message. If everyone I come in contact with could pay that message forward, we could assure that we leave this great game in better hands for the next generation. My hope is by doing so, I can inspire my fellow professionals and promote the game. 5. List any Section or National PGA Awards you have received STPGA Junior Golf Leader Award Section 2013, 2015 US Kid Top 50 Teachers Honorable Mention 2014 STPGA Junior Golf Leader Award Chapter 2016 Nominated for the LPGA Sandy LaBauve Spirit Award

Name: Benjamin Willman PGA Classification: A-6 Facility: Axis Golf Academy & Fitting Center Year Elected to Membership in the PGA: ) Briefly describe your contributions to youth golf programs in the STPGA and on a national basis including service as a chairperson or as a member of the Junior Golf Committee: The support we give the STPGA is huge. We teach in the region of 100 kids on a regular basis but reach far more when you consider the summer and holiday camps we run during the year. Whenever the kids ask us where to play and how to progress in the sport, the STPGA events are always the ones we recommend. Because the playing levels of the kids we see are so varied and their experience levels are so different, the events the STPGA run are perfect recommendations. 2.) Briefly describe your involvement in the promotion and development of youth golf at the club level and within the community: We have several junior programs at our Academy aimed at developing kids skill levels and growing the game in the local community. The Mini Junior Tour is a program for kids aged between 6-9. The Junior tour is for kids between the ages of Both these programs have an hour clinic where the kids work on their skills followed by playing holes on the golf course. The number of holes range between 3-9 depending on ability and experience. The Advanced Junior Tour program is for kids between the age of This program is designed for better players that are seeking more instruction and competition. We have a home school programs for kids which we run during normal school hours as well as Off Campus PE which is run twice a week. Although we have just moved to Woodforest Golf club the above programs were all run at our previous facilities for at least five years. Since moving to Woodforest Golf Club we have also introduced a Junior Club Championship. We are still currently running our Junior League program and as I write this are about to compete in the Sub-regionals at GleannLoch Pines Golf Club.

3.) Briefly describe your image and leadership in the area of youth golf and the nominee s overall integrity: Our mission is to become the premier teaching Academy in the area. If we are going to do this we need to continue to learn and educate ourselves in the newest technology and theories/philosophies of the game. In other words we need to be leaders in our area. We try to be as open and forthcoming with our students. We want them to be able to trust us and the information we are giving them. 4.) Describe how you inspire fellow PGA Professionals and promote the game of golf: I try to inspire fellow golfers the same way I was inspired by my previous bosses. I try to act and carry myself the way I would want any of my students to act. I try to support the PGA as best I can. I try to keep my game in good shape and play as many STPGA tournaments as I can. Promoting the game is one of the most important things any us professionals can do. If the game grows then the industry grows and we all have jobs to go to. If the game doesn't grow then I may not be so lucky to enjoy the job I love so much. 5.) List any Section or National PGA awards you have received and list the year received: 2014 STPGA Player of the Year

This application must be signed and returned to the STPGA office by August 26, 2016 in order for the nominee to be considered for this award. The STPGA Awards Committee strongly recommends that the application for this award be typewritten and will not accept additional materials beyond the answers to the questions on the application.
