Dearborn Country Club House and Golf Rules 2018 The Rules of the Dearborn Country Club (DCC) find their origin dating back to 1925 when Henry Ford formed the club for the enjoyment of friends in and around the City of Dearborn, employees of Ford Motor Company and Henry Ford Hospital. Mr. Ford enlisted historic golf course designer, Donald Ross to design the course and renowned architect, Albert Kahn to design the clubhouse. The legacy of Henry Ford s early vision for the Dearborn Country Club has evolved into one of the finest and most respected country clubs in the area. Much has changed since the course seed was laid and the timbers launched for the clubhouse ballroom in the mid nineteen twenties. The game of golf was a more formal affair. Gentlemen played the game in ties and knickers while ladies wore hats and long skirts. Golf equipment also has seen change. In the 1920 s, golf club shafts were made of hickory, golf balls made of one piece of rubber. Though much has changed since the first members were initiated in 1925, the substance of golf etiquette, sportsmanship and common courtesy remain intact as the foundation for the Rules of the Dearborn Country Club today. With a respect for tradition, the rules are designed and enforced, to enhance the Dearborn Country Club experience for all members and their guests. The rules of the Dearborn Country Club are seen to be evolutionary. As the game of golf advances and Country Club lifestyle evolves; the rules will also see change. It is the charge of the DCC Board of Governors (BOG) to approve all rules, discharge their enforcement and remedy violations. Any questions arising over the interpretation of these rules should be directed to the General Manager with forwarding to the BOG. Suggestions for changes and improvements will always be welcomed and may be made to the Board of Governors. 1

House Rules All members should treat other members, guests, staff and management with respect, common courtesy and proper decorum. Conflict between members over club issues should be resolved by management. Members are responsible for their guest s adherence to the DCC rules. Clubhouse Dress The Board of Governors of Dearborn Country Club has developed a Dress Code that reflects today s life style while honoring the traditions and history of the DCC. The Club Management shall have sole discretion and authority in matters of appropriateness of attire. Members are encouraged to consider common sense, respect for tradition, modesty, and the comfort of fellow members and their guests when making casual-attire decisions. DCC prefers our members dress-up rather than dress-down when visiting the Club. While we expect that members will use good taste and judgment, the Board has directed Club Management to discreetly review any inappropriate casual attire decisions directly with the member to ensure that the Club maintains a casual environment that is enjoyable for everyone. Proper attire is required for all areas of the Club. T-shirts without collars except mock turtlenecks, tank tops, short shorts (more than 6 inches above the knee), tennis shorts and cargo shorts are not allowed in any area of the Club, Dining Room or Grounds. The Club is more relaxed in its evening attire than in years past. Business casual and country club casual are most appropriate. Dress appropriate denim is permitted in all areas of the Clubhouse and on the Patio. Certain events sponsored by the DCC or private events may have a specific dress code where denim may not be worn. All members are responsible for their guests adhering to the DCC dress code, including the denim policy. Denim that is torn, frayed, distressed, destructed or mutilated shall be deemed inappropriate in the denim policy. Appropriate denim is also permitted in the pool and picnic area adjacent to the swimming pool. 2

Pool attire, bathing suits and cover-ups are not appropriate to be worn outside of the pool area or in any part of the clubhouse or grounds. Shirts Collared shirts for gentlemen are required. Gentlemen must keep shirts tucked in at all times with the exception of those shirts designed to be worn untucked. Ladies are permitted to leave tops untucked for tops that hold that design. Hats Hats are permitted only in the men s locker room and must be removed while in all other areas of the club house, including the nineteenth hole. Hats must be worn as designed, with the brim facing forward. Cash Payments Members and guests are not permitted to pay cash for purchases and services. Charge tickets should have the member s account number affixed thereto. Guests who are members of Detroit District Golf Clubs may sign for purchases. It is the responsibility of guests from other District Clubs to confirm their club s reciprocal agreement with the DCC prior to visiting the DCC. Credit card purchases are permitted for Pro Shop goods and services. Gratuities The DCC utilizes a team service model for clubhouse staff. With this model, gratuities received on chits are pooled. There is a voluntary tipping policy in the Club for food and beverage; however, the Board of Directors strongly urges all members to use at least the 17% standard for average acceptable service. Cash gratuities that recognize outstanding service for the locker room staff, golf shop staff, attendants and caddies are deemed acceptable. 3

Member and DCC Employee Conflict Policy All service employees of the Clubhouse are under the ultimate supervision of the Club s General Manager and no Member or guest shall reprimand or discipline any employee or send any employee off the Club s premises for any reason. Complaints should be made when an incident occurs, or made in writing, signed and addressed to the General Manager. 19th Hole The 19th Hole is available to: All members and guests age 16 and older at any time. Children and teenagers under age 16 with an adult at any time. The Gentlemen s and Ladies Locker Rooms are available to: All gentlemen and ladies age 21 and older at any time. Young men and women ages for the purpose of using the Fitness Centers. Children and teenagers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Smartphones The DCC recognizes that smartphone communication is an integral part of everyday life. In establishing a smart phone policy, DCC has worked to strike a balance between traditional country club etiquette, maintaining a tranquil environment and the need to remain connected with smartphone devices. To that end, it is requested that smartphone ringers be silenced on the DCC grounds. Voice conversations on cell phones are restricted to the Gentlemen s and Ladies Locker Rooms, wash rooms and parking lot. It is requested that members and their guests keep smartphone calls as brief as possible. Voice conversations on smartphones are not permitted on the golf course. 4

Discrete smartphone texting, ing and internet use are allowed in the common areas, Ballroom, Grill Room, Fireside Room, Nineteenth Hole and Patio. Please keep your use to a minimum as to not disturb other members and guests. Members are responsible for their guests compliance with this policy. Fitness Centers Clean, well-fitting fitness attire and athletic shoes are acceptable within the fitness facility. Shorts are to be an appropriate length (no shorter than mid-thigh). Tee shirts and other clothing with offensive language may not be worn. Blue jeans and blue jean cut-offs are prohibited. See through apparel and torn clothing may not be worn. When using the fitness equipment, please be considerate of other members waiting for equipment. In addition, equipment should be wiped down when finished using. Members must be at least 16 years of age to use the men s and women s health facilities located in the respective locker rooms. Parking Lot Golf carts are never allowed in the parking lot. Parking is only allowed in designated parking spaces. Parking in the club entrance dropoff circle and on ends of rows in unrecognized spaces is prohibited. To assure immediate and unobstructed access to the Clubhouse and Golf Course for police, fireman and ambulances, automobiles parked in unrecognized parking spaces are subject to towing at the owner s expense. It is recommended that all automobiles be locked when parked. The Club is not responsible for loss or damage to cars on Club property. The DCC reserves the right to tow illegally parked cars at the owner s expense. Changing clothes and (or) putting on shoes in the parking lot is strictly prohibited. Members are responsible for their guest s adherence to the rule. Lockers are available for all guests. 5

Pool Proper swim attire is required for use of the pool. Shorts and cut-offs are not allowed. All members and guests are required to sign in with the pool attendant at the entrance to the pool and must shower before entering the pool. Only food and beverages purchased at the DCC are allowed in the pool area. All beverages in cans or cups are welcome on the pool deck; however, glass bottles or glass of any kind is not allowed. Smoking is not permitted on the pool deck. Rubber pants or pull-ups must be worn by children that are not yet toilet trained. On peak summer holidays, Memorial Day, 4 th of July and Labor Day, members are limited to four guests per family. Alcohol Only alcoholic beverages purchased and served at the Club may be consumed on Club properties in accordance with the Rules and Regulations of the Michigan State Liquor Control Commission. The DCC will not serve alcoholic beverages to any person who has not attained the age of 21 years. The DCC reserves the right to refuse service of alcohol to any member or guests. Smoking Smoking is only allowed in designated areas outside of the Clubhouse. Members are requested to safely and properly dispose of cigarette and cigar butts using the supplied receptacles. While smoking is permitted on the golf course, members and their guests are asked to properly dispose of butts in a safe and sanitary manner in supplied receptacles. Do not dispose of cigarette or cigar butts on the golf course grass, adjacent woods or sand traps. 6

Controlled Substances The DCC has a zero-tolerance policy regarding controlled substances. Controlled substances are not permitted on the DCC campus. Members and guests found to be in violation of this policy will be asked to immediately leave the premises and the matter will be referred to the Board of Governors for disciplinary action. Guns and Firearms Guns and firearms of all types are strictly prohibited at the DCC. Members and guests that are legally permitted to carry firearms are required to leave their firearms and ammunition in their locked vehicles. Music and Speakers Personal music played on personal speakers or smartphones is acceptable on the golf course and the 19 th Hole Fire pit area within the following guidelines. Discretion is exercised as to not disturb other groups on the golf course. Music is played with the consent of all playing members of the golf group; Volume level does not impose on the enjoyment of other golfers/members and sound remains within the immediate proximity of the cart; and Music is not the type to be considered vulgar or profane. Personal music is prohibited on the golf course during tournament play. The Golf staff may at any time require the volume to be lowered or turned off all together. Personal music played from personal speakers and smartphones is prohibited in all other areas of the DCC, including the dining rooms, nineteenth hole, driving range, patio and the pool and picnic area. 7

Language The DCC is a family establishment. Foul and coarse language is not acceptable. Members and their guests are asked to be considerate of other members and children and refrain from the use of foul and offensive language. Solicitation and Political Materials Solicitation of any kind is prohibited at the DCC. This includes the use of the membership directory for business solicitation purposes. Petitions, for any purpose, are also not allowed. Political signs, literature and campaigning are prohibited, unless they are part of a paid private event at the DCC. Loss and Damage The Club management shall make every reasonable effort and precaution to prevent loss or damage to property of members or guests. Valuables may be placed in the Office safe. Personal liability for accidental or willful acts of members or guests on the golf course or premises is the liability of the individuals. Notices to this effect shall be posted in lockers and on the bulletin boards from time to time. Golf Course Dearborn Country Club Rules for the Golf Course and golf facility are meant to uphold the tradition of the game of golf, but to also enhance the member experience while playing a round or practicing. The DCC Golf Professional and his staff are responsible for enforcement of the rules associated with the golf course and arbitrators of rules and disputes related to the golf course. 8

Dress Code for Golf Course All Dearborn Country Club golfers are expected to dress in proper golf attire. Gentlemen For gentlemen and young men, collared shirts and appropriate jackets or pullovers, along with golf shorts and slacks. Cargo shorts, tee shirts, tank tops and other non-golf attire and prohibited. Shirts must be kept tucked in at all times. Ladies For Ladies, proper golf attire is required for play in accordance with LPGA dress standards. Cargo shorts, tank tops, midriffs, tights and yoga pants are prohibited. Golf shoes are required for play. Athletic shoes, non-golf sandals and street shoes are not allowed. Starter All golfers are required to check in with the Starter prior to teeing off. If the Starter is not available, see golf shop staff. Teeing off on the 1 st or 10 th tee without checking in with the starter is strictly prohibited. Golfers are encouraged to make tee times by either booking your tee time on line, with the starter directly or the pro shop staff. Pace of Play A round of golf at the DCC for 18 holes is expected not to exceed 4 hours or 2 hours for 9 holes under normal playing conditions. Golfers are asked to keep this pace of play. Foursomes set the pace of play on the golf course. 9

If you find a group behind you playing quickly, and if there are open holes in front of you, wave them up and let them pass. This will keep the entire course moving in regulation time. Conversely, if playing up to a slower group, yield them the appropriate distance to complete their hole without distraction. It is the responsibility of the following group not to hit into the group ahead of them. Golf Carts Golf carts are to be operated in a safe and responsible manner. Children are prohibited from driving a golf cart. Teenagers that have a State issued driving permit or driver s license can drive a golf cart. When approaching the green with golf carts to chip and putt, carts should remain on the cart path and brought as far as the pin or farther for parking. This will make for a quick exit from the green and keep play moving along. Parking in close proximity to the greens is permitted for physically challenged members and guests that are approved to have a flag on their cart designating a physical handicap. While chipping and putting, carts should never be left in front of the green. To prevent serious injury and damage, golf carts are never allowed in the parking lot. Members and guests are encouraged to utilize the services of DCC Pro Shop attendants for assistance with golf bags. Golf Course Access Junior Golfers Golf Play for Juniors (under 12 years of age) Play only one ball per person. No practicing on golf course. Slow playing groups must permit faster playing adults to play through. Repair divots, ball marks and rake traps. No pull carts will be permitted within 30 feet of the green. 10

Driving Range & Old 16 Short Game Practice Area The Driving Range and Old 16 is available to all golfing members of the DCC. Social Members, unless being accompanied by a member for a round of golf, are not permitted to use the driving range. While utilizing the Driving Range, golfers are asked to park their carts on the path at the front of the range in a single file line. Golfers are asked to practice on a small area of turf inside of the range practice station so not to take divots from a large or scattered turf area. Upon completing a practice session or pre-match warmup, golfers are required to repair their practice divots with the sand that is provided. Children of golfers must be accompanied by an adult to use the Driving Range. 11

Caddie Service The importance of caddies in golf is universally acknowledged. The Sports Committee, in conjunction with the Golf Services Manager and Club Professional will continue in striving to maintain and improve our high standards of caddie service. The competence of the Caddie Service will be the responsibility of the Golf Services Manager. We urge all members to use a caddie when available. The Pro Shop Staff will furnish all new caddies with a copy of the Caddie s Guide. This is a booklet containing rules of caddie conduct and a guide for standard training of caddies. Caddies will be assigned to players by the Pro Shop Staff. Complaints of any sort should be directed to the Pro Shop Staff in person. The caddie cards have been provided with places for marking. Members can assist in the development of caddies by properly evaluating their performance and marking their deficiencies. Music/Personal Speakers Personal music played on personal speakers or smart phones is acceptable on the golf course within the following guidelines: Discretion is exercised as to not disturb other groups on the golf course. Music is played with the consent of all playing members of the golf group. Volume level does not impose on the enjoyment of other golfers/members and sound remains within the immediate proximity of the cart. Music is not the type to be considered vulgar or profane. Personal music is prohibited on the golf course during tournament play. The Golf staff may at any time require the volume to be lowered or turned off all together. Personal music played from personal speakers and smart phones is prohibited in all other areas of the DCC, including the dining rooms, nineteenth hole, driving range, patio and the pool and picnic area. 12

Sand Traps Upon completion of a golf shot from a sand trap, golfers are required to rake the trap and leave it in smooth playing condition. Rakes are to be left in the sand trap. For golfer safety, golf carts are prohibited to be parked in close proximity to the sand traps or on the surrounding hills. Course Conduct and Procedures Golfers are required to adhere to traditional golf etiquette on the golf course. Skipping or jumping holes is strictly prohibited. Golfers should replace all divots and repair ball marks on greens. Golfers should be respectful of other groups while playing. All scores must be posted in order to establish a valid USGA handicap. Anyone competing in Club tournaments must have a valid USGA handicap established by a minimum of 5 scores posted during this and/or the previous season (scramble events excluded). Universal Golf Etiquette Golf is a game in which good manners and consideration of others are essential. Considerate golfers and spectators follow these universal rules: Don t move, talk, make noise or do anything which might disturb a player about to make a stroke. Don t stand close to a player who is addressing the ball or on the line behind the ball where he can see you. Don t offer unsolicited advice. Don t drop your bag, pull a golf cart or drive a golf cart on the green. Avoid damaging the green by dropping the flagstick or standing close to the cup. Don t step in the line of putt. Leave the green immediately after completing the hole. Mark your score after leaving the green. Delay hitting until those ahead are well out of range. If there is a clear hole open ahead, you should invite the group behind to play through. Do the same when looking for a lost ball. A maximum of five (5) minutes is allowed when searching for a lost ball. 13

Play without undue delay. Be prepared to play when your turn comes. This means studying your next shot and deciding the club you will use as you approach your ball or wait for the others to play. Allow the player whose ball is the farthest from the hole to play ahead of you. However, in a friendly game you sometimes might play out of turn to save time if you are ready. Times of Operation Clubhouse, Golf Course and Swimming Pool operate on seasonal time schedules. Members should refer to the DCC website, Short Putts publication or the front desk for hours of operation. The aforementioned rules of the Dearborn Country Club are meant to enhance the member experience while honoring tradition of the game of golf and the storied history of the Dearborn Country Club. On behalf of the Board of Governors, management and staff of the Dearborn Country Club, we truly hope that you enjoy your time at the DCC as so many others have since our Club s beginning in
