The centerpiece of Sand Creek is the elegant 50,000 square foot two-story Italian Renaissance-style clubhouse. As you and your guests enter the main foyer, the elegance is apparent with marble columns, wood paneled walls, and marble arches leading to the grill room, formal dining room, executive dining room and grand ball room. The terrace offers sweeping views across the clock garden, and golf course. The lower level of the clubhouse features finely appointed men s and women s locker rooms and lounges. 3 Fact Sheet Sand Creek s 27 holes include the Creek, Lake and Marsh courses, ranked as some of the most challenging in the Midwest. The original 18 holes were built in 1976 by renowned Chicago architects Killian and Nugent, who also designed Kemper Lakes and other wellknown Chicago courses. Golf course designers Jerry Mobley and Charles Howard of Desert Springs Company designed the newest, the Marsh Course, which opened in Marsh 3 The Courses The Creek Course, the first of the three nine-hole courses at Sand Creek, receives its moniker from Sand Creek, which makes its way through the course. The design puts a premium on club selection and accuracy, while winds off Lake Michigan, just north of Sand Creek, often come into play. The Lake Course at Sand Creek has well placed sod-wall bunkers with several greens guarded by water. The 1995 opening of Sand Creek's Marsh Course was highlighted by the appearance of PGA TOUR professional Tom Kite, who established the course record by shooting a 67 on the Creek and Marsh courses, which are characterized by gorgeous wetlands, creeks, ponds, and rolling terrain. Recognition Sand Creek has been recognized as one of Golf Digest s top ten courses in Indiana and was honored with the Best of Golf award from LINKS Magazine and Audubon International at the 1996 U.S. Open at Oakland Hills in Bloomfield, Michigan. In 2000, Sand Creek received the Golf Course Superintendent s Association of America s National Environmental Steward Award for U.S. private golf courses. Sand Creek is the site of the Northern Amateur, one of the world s top men s amateur golf championships, from 1983 until its retirement in In 2011 the decision was made to re-start the event. In 2009, Sand Creek was recognized by The Times and Shore Magazine as the Best Club for Golf Outings in the region. In 2013, Sand Creek was voted as the Best Golf Course in Northwest Indiana by the readers of the NW Indiana Business Quarterly. Environment Sand Creek was one of the first fully certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary System in the state of Indiana which recognizes Sand Creek s ongoing commitment to resource conservation and the management of water quality and wildlife. There are 109 acres of protected wildlife habitat area within Sand Creek, and over 83 bird species make their home within the property.
