EDITO Michel VEUNAC Mayor of Biarritz In 2017, the 118th Biarritz Cup celebrated by victories of Laura Platchetka from Golf of Terres Blanches, and Nicolas Calvet from Biarritz Golf.

Biarritz has a great golf tradition and thanks to its courses and training infrastructures, our town welcomes international competition and has seen appear greats champions.

2 EDITO Michel VEUNAC Mayor of Biarritz In 2017, the 118th Biarritz Cup celebrated by victories of Laura Platchetka from Golf of Terres Blanches, and Nicolas Calvet from Biarritz Golf. This comeback of the french, and moreover one «Biarrot», placed first, has revived the hunger of all players, french and foreigners. Biarritz has a great golf tradition and thanks to its courses and training infrastructures, our town welcomes international competition and has seen appear greats champions. This year again, our town welcomes the Biarritz Cup, created in 1898, the most importante and oldest of french golf competitions reserved to amateurs. The Biarritz Cup, so covoted, celebrates its 119th birthday, and more than 500 passionate participants are expected in the exceptional setting of the Golf du Phare. The 119th edition, which takes place from 8 to 15 July 2018, will reserve, in all five series, a show not to be missed. The Biarritz town and our sponsors work again in 2018 for the success of this major golfing event organized by the Governing Comitee of the Sport s Union with assistance from «La Société des Golfs de Biarritz». Great competition to all! I welcome spectators to come and support participants. I thank the Governing Comitee of the Sport s Union with the team of «La Société des Golf» and the volunteers who, with their commitment, contribute to the success of this competition and standing of Biarritz Golf and the town. 4 THE GOLF DE BIARRITZ Situated in the prestigious town of Biarritz, «le Golf du Phare» is located between ocean and mountains. It is a unique setting in the South West of France for players and visitors. The climate is temperate throughout the year and benefits from this ideal environment. It is an emblematic proof of French golfing history, and the sporting tradition of the «Pays Basque». Created by Tom and Willie Dunn, two British architects, «le Golf de Biarritz» was inaugurated in April years later, the famous architect HS Colt redesigned the course to its present from. This par 69 spreads over 34 hectares (84 acres). The course is meters long (5 908 yards). 3

5 HISTORY OF THE GOLF It all started more than 100 years ago, British residents recently established on the coast town of Biarritz imported, with them, their favorite sport : golf! Biarritz Golf Club was inaugurated on Tuesday March 13th 1888 in the presence of Princess Frederika of Hanovre, grand -daughter of Queen Victoria and daughter of Georges V of Hanovre, who saw the very first competition played out over the Biarritz links that was for ladies! Very rare at this time for a male dominated sport. Created in 1975, Biarritz Golf s Union is governed under the 1901 law. It is registered with the «Direction de la Jeunesse et des Sports» and affiliated to the French Golf Federation. Its aims is to promote the play of golf for all. Its main duties are to organize the Biarritz Cup, animate the club sport s life and handle the various teams representing the golf in France. 4

In fact, apart from its prestige, it is one of the only two federal grand prix in France to be classified «categorie 1», that is to say benefiting from the best ranked amateur players from France and abroad. The competition has become a fixture for the best French amateur golfers played out over 72 holes as are the big international competitions. The Biarritz Cup has grown, and impacts at the highest level in the world of golf and foreign media. This year, it will take place on the course of «Golf du Phare» from 8 to 5 July 2018, and celebrates it s 119th birthday.
