5 [Caddie Jkes] [Teachingkidsbusiness.cm] [Kidse-marketplace.cm] Imprtant Tips Befre Yu Get Started There are a number f imprtant things t cnsider befre yu pick-up yur bag (glfer) fr yur caddie assignment; Read the Caddie Training Manual, watch sme glf n TV and talk t ther glfers and caddies. Be well rested and ready t wrk hard. Weather fr the day. If yu are caddying early in the mrning r late afternn it will be a lt cler then the expected high fr the day, therefre dress accrdingly. Sun screen. Remember yu are ging t be utside in the sun fr fur hurs plus. Dn't frget the back f the neck! Wear a hat, peak t the frnt. Twels. Are they supplied by the curse, if nt bring yur wn and nthing t clrful as white is preferred. Yu need ne that yu can wet ( wet ne quarter f twel) fr club cleaning. Check with the curse n their dress cde t understand what is acceptable. t wear as yu caddie. Shirts (keep shirts tucked in) with cllars, scks and lng shrts are nrmally acceptable, cmfrtable shes with n spikes; running shes are fine. Be well grmed, neatly dressed and dressed apprpriately fr the weather. Fd is imprtant. Yu will be carrying/pulling a bag fr 4 t 5 miles during a rund s make sure yu have eaten befre and have sme healthy snacks. Pp and chclate bars are nt a smart chice. Drink as much water as pssible n the curse. Dn't let yurself get dehydrated. Be n time. Dn't be late. If yu are assigned t a grup at a specific time, make sure yu have made arrangements t get there at least 30 minutes befre. If there is a range and yur glfer wants yu n the range then plan accrdingly. Make sure yu have made arrangements t get t and frm the club safely. It is in yur best interest nt t accept rides frm yur glfer r ther peple at the curse that yu d nt knw r that yur parents have nt apprved. Yu are expected t carry a twel, ball repair tl, yardage card r bk (if available r ver time make yur wn),scre card and pencil. (Check with yur glfer n ball and tee supply). Yu are expected t be cheerful, bedient and able t perfrm the tasks utlined in this manual. (yardage, tending the flagstick, raking the bunkers, lcating lst balls, replacing divts and repairing ball marks.) Remember that yu are prviding a service t a custmer. Pints On Hw T Manage Glfers Glf Bag When yu are assigned a player, it is imprtant t get rganized. Find ut yur glfers name and hw t prnunce the name. Determine where yu shuld meet yur glfer and where t pick up his r her glf bag. Yu may be asked t pick up the glf bag at the bag strage r Bag drp-ff area. Understand where these areas are. Identify yur players glf bag by examining the name n the tag. Cunt the number f clubs (maximum 14), remember the brand (name n the clubs - Taylr Made, Callaway etc.). Ask yur glfer if it is k t rack the clubs r put them in rder. When racking clubs, wds and putter g n tp, 1-6 irns in the middle f the bag and 7 irn and wedges n the bttm. Check fr ther accessries like an umbrella, twel etc. Check t make sure that the zippered pckets are clsed. Pick up the bag and see hw it hangs. If it carries t high r lw then adjust the strap.

6 When yu walk with the bag ver yur shulder make sure yu place a hand n the end f the clubs. This will stp them frm shaking which distracts yur glfer and can bang up the clubs. If yu start t get tired carrying the bag take the hand clsest t the bttm f the bag and grab the bttm f the bag. This will take weight ff f ne side f yu and distribute better. Keep in mind that yur player will give yu their club after a sht when they are ready t. Dn't ask fr the club. Be careful t clean it and put it back in the club withut frcing it int the bag. Make sure that the area inside the grves f the club is clean. Wet yur twel (abut 1/4 f it ) t make it easier t clean the players glf club and glf ball. Understanding Curse and Equipment Terminlgy In rder t cmmunicate with yur glfer and ther caddies, yu must be familiar with certain wrds and terms. This training manual will define sme f thse wrds and terms. 1. Review the glf card and try and understand the layut f the glf curse and the best r shrtest walking rutes. Ask at the caddie master r pr shp. 2. Knw all 14 clubs. (Understand the difference between an irn and a fairway wd, a 6 and 9 irn (upside dwn) and varius wedges like sand, pitching and lb. 3. Hand player the club he r she selects 4. Stand still when players are abut t hit the ball 5. Keep quiet when players are preparing fr their sht 6. Watch the ball at all times s yu knw where t find it after it has been hit 7. Replace all divts n the fairway but nt n the tee blcks if sand is available 8. Smth sand in traps 9. First n the green takes the flagstick 10. Keep up with the player after yu have replaced their divt 11. Never swing the clubs 12. Memrize yardage f each hle (keep a card available) 13. If yu dn't knw - ASK 14. NEVER, never tuch a ball that is in play (between tee and befre it is hled ut) nr allw the ball t tuch yu 15. Mind yur manrs, respect the equipment and glf curse

7 Terms T Get Familiar With A. Divt - A piece f turf dug frm a fairway in making a sht. B. Replace the Divt. Is retrieving the divt after the sht and replacing it back were it came frm. C. Tee - A little white peg (can be ther clrs) used t hld the ball ff the grund fr tee shts at the start f the hle nly. D. Caddie Master - A persn that manages caddie prgrams key cntact at the curse and smene wh yu can learn frm. E. Hnr - The right t play ff f the tee (lwest scre n previus hle). F. Penalty - If a player r caddie des nt fllw the rules the player can be penalized with additinal strkes. Please see rule bk G. Away - Ball farthest frm the hle hits first. H. Yur Away - It is yur turn t play yur sht. I. Anther ball r prvisinary ball - If a ball is hit ut f bunds r thught t be lst anther ball is required t be hit. J. Par - The scre which is standard fr expert players n each hle. K. Rugh-husing - This leads t accidents and is frwned upn. L. Apprach - The strike r sht t the putting green. M. Birdie - One strke under par fr the hle. N. Handicap - Strkes given t equalize playing ability between players. Lwer is better O. Eagle - Tw strkes under par fr hle. P. Bgey - One strke ver par fr a hle. Q. Fre-caddie - A caddie wh statins himself dwn the fairway, ahead f the players t watch "blind" shts (shts that yu can nt see the landing area). R. Fre - A term that is yelled ut when a ball is hit in the general directin f smene. This is the warning call n the curse. When yu hear try and cver yur head and shelter yurself behind smething if pssible. ALWAYS REMEMBER: The Rules f Glf make the caddie a "partner" f the player. As a result, when a caddie breaks a rule, it is his player wh must suffer the penalty. S, if yu want t be a gd caddie, learn the Rules f Glf - r at least knw the nes that apply t yu. Please refer t rule bks frm the respective Glf Assciatins r see the links at the back f the manual. If yu knw the rules, yu will be in a psitin t help yur player win r save shts n their rund. If yu dn't, yu can just as easily cause him r her t lse by making a mistake that can cst him r her the match. The Glf Curse A glf curse is the whle area n which play is permitted. Many curses are eighteen hles with a driving range and practice putting areas. Belw is a diagram f a typical glf hle:

8 (Diagram f a glf hle ) The Teeing Grund is the starting place fr a hle t be played. At mst curses three sets f tee markers are used: Blue fr Champinship (hle plays the lngest), White fr mid handicap and Red fr beginners and high handicaps. Watch which tees yur player uses n the 1st Tee and then g t thse tees fr the remainder f the rund. (Red,white.blue r gld etc) At the ppsite end f the glf hle is the Putting Green. The Putting Green is the lw, finely mwed grass which surrunds the hle. Encircling the Putting Green is slightly taller grass called the Fringe r Aprn. The Flagstick r Pin is the mvable ple centered in the hle s players can see the psitin f the hle n the Putting Green. The stretch f shrt grass between the Teeing Grund and the Putting Green is called the fairway. On either side f the fairway is lnger, heavier grass called the rugh. Near the Putting Green f a glf hle may be several Sand Traps r Bunkers (Greenside bunkers). Other Bunkers can be alng the side f the Fairway (fairway bunkers). Any areas where glf play is nt permitted are referred t as OUT OF BOUNDS. OUT OF BOUNDS areas are identified by white stakes r fences. Glf hles vary in length but are all classified int three categries: Par 3, Par 4 and Par 5 Hles. The Par number represents the expected number f shts a player shuld take t cmplete the hle. The shrtest hles are Par 3 Hles and shuld be cmpleted in three shts by the expert player. The lngest hles are Par 5 Hles and shuld be cmpleted in five shts. The remaining hles are Par 4 Hles and shuld be cmpleted in fur shts. Yu will seldm caddie fr players wh are expert, s be aware that higher scres are cmmn. A player wh cmpletes a hle in the ideal number f shts is said t have "made a Par". A player wh cmpletes a hle in ne sht mre than Par is said t have "made a Bgey". A player wh cmpletes a hle in ne sht less than Par is said t have " made a Birdie". On the First Tee Take a mment and intrduce yurself t the ther caddies and glfers. It is the Caddie's jb t lcate and identify his r her player's ball n the curse. Therefre, after yur player selects a ball frm the bag, be sure t ask the brand name, number f the ball and any identifying marks like cmpany lgs r initials etc.

9 (Picture f a ball brand, number and ther marks) When the glfers are ready t tee ff, stand in a place where yu can watch the flight f the ball but are nt in danger f being hit. Stand at least ten feet away frm the glfers utside the tee markers. Watch yur shadw it is nt cast ver the glfer hitting the ball. Abve all, be quiet and watch all players tee shts. (Picture f a tee ff situatin) It is als yur jb t knw the lcatin f each player's ball, especially the ball f yur wn player. As each ball is hit, watch its flight frm the time it leaves the club until it lands and cmes t a stp. If yu're facing the sun, shade yur eyes with yur hands. If the player's ball land in the rugh, mark it by lining it up with a tree, bush, bunker r ther landmark. This will save time and pssibly strkes. If there is a pssibility that yur player's ball landed ut f bunds, tell him r her immediately. They may decide t hit a prvisinal ball. After yu've lined up yur player's ball, wipe ff the club and return it t the bag. Dn't frce it int the bag as it will harm the grips. Replace the head-cver if a medal wd was used. Dwn The Fairway (Ball In Play) As sn as all players have cmpleted their tee shts and yu have cared fr yur player's club, pick up his r her bag and walk ahead f yur player in the directin f his r her ball. If his r her tee sht landed in the rugh, walk n the "line" f flight with the bunker, tree,

10 building, etc.. that it was ging twards. If yu lse the line, yu may lse the ball. The player whse tee sht lies farthest frm the putting green (hle) is always first t play. Therefre, if yur player must wait his r her turn, be sure t remember the lcatin f his r her ball. Try t reach yur player's ball befre they d, but d nt mve ahead f the ther players. Stay still while they are hitting and dn't psitin yurself s yu distract them frm their line t their target. When yu reach the ball, remve the bag frm yur shulder and set the bttm f the bag n the grund apprximately 3 feet frm the ball; and lean the bag tward the player t permit the selectin f a club. Once the player selects his r her club, step back s yu are 6 t 10 feet away frm yur player. Again, watch the flight f the ball until it lands and rlls t a stp. (take a line with a tree, trap, stake etc.) Yardage Markers Set int the grass in the middle f each fairway (n Par 4's and Par 5's) are three clred metal yardage markers: The BLUE marker is always 200 yards frm the center f the green. The WHITE marker is always 150 yards frm the center f the green. The RED marker is always 100 yards frm the center f the green. As yur player cmes within 200 yards f the green, it is pssible fr him r her t hit their next sht nt the green. Therefre, they will expect yu t estimate the yardage s they can select the apprpriate club fr that distance. Learn t make a ne yard (3 ft) step t help yu estimate yardage. Fr example; if they are between the BLUE marker and the green, yu pace ff the number f yards and subtract frm 200. If they are 10 paces (yards) inside the BLUE mark then they are 190 yards t the middle f the green. If the pin is at the frnt f the green they culd be anther 10 yards clser r 180 yards t the pin. There may als be times when yur glfer needs t knw hw far they need t carry (hit the ball in the air) t avid truble. That may take sme quick pacing, bservatin f markers, past experience r yardage ntes. Imprtant Tips On The Fairway: 1. Replace divts 2. Rake sand traps r bunkers 3. Lk fr lst balls 4. Fre-caddie 5. Clean the player's club after each time it is used When hitting a fairway sht, sme glfers may take a divt. That means that he r she swings the club int the ball and it scrapes away a sectin f grass frm the fairway r rugh area. It will be yur jb t replace all f yur player's divts. Divts may als be made n tee shts, especially with irns n Par 3's When yur player hits his r her ball n the green, give them their putter immediately.

11 Replace Divts: Pick up the sectin f grass that was scraped away Place it n tp f the bare dirt (green side up!) Press the grass sectin int the bare area with yur ft. Please take yur time and care t replace divts it is key keeping the glf curse in gd shape fr thers t enjy. Rake Sand Traps r Bunkers: Find the nearest rake After yur player hits, enter the bunker r trap at the same pint yur player did Smth ut all ftprints and irregularities Replace the rake inside the trap r bunker, nt n the grass Never leave the bunker by climbing up a steep face - Leave at a lw pint: Please take the time and care t rake the traps prperly. If a ball cmes t rest in a ftprint that has nt been raked, the player has t play it as it lies and will mre then likely have truble making a gd sht. Lk fr Lst Balls Anytime any player lses a ball, help lk fr it. This speeds up play and it is a jester f gd sprtsmanship. Fre-Caddie Wrk tgether with the caddies in the grup and alternate hles that appear t be difficult driving hles. Having a caddie up near the landing area can be very helpful. Stand in the rugh and ut f the way t the flight f the ball. This is a great way t encurage the use f caddies n the curse as it speeds up play a lt. If a grup lks three times fr a lst ball and spends 5 t 10 minutes each time, then the rund becmes 15 t 30 minutes lnger. T many glf curses, time is mney s if we can speed up play they make mre mney and will lve t have caddies n the curse. Glf Cart Chasing An imprtant jb f a cart chaser at a cuntry club is t fre-caddie when players are using glf carts. There are certain things that a fre-caddie/cart chaser must d, these are listed belw. 1. G ahead t the landing area f the tee shts, stand ff t the side f the fairway and watch all the balls land. If a ball ends up in the rugh r the wds, mark it with a marker (stick, tee, pencil etc.). If the ball ends up in the fairway, d nt mark it. 2. Once all players have teed ff and yu have marked the balls, prceed t the next landing area. This may be near the green, r n a par 5 hle sme place shrt f the green. Again, yu need t watch all shts and if they are ff the fairway, mark them. 3. Nw, yu are in the area f the green. It is yur jb t rake traps, if necessary, and

12 t clean each players ball n the green. Yu must als attend the pin while the players are putting. Once everyne has putted ut, retrieve yur markers frm the glf carts and hustle ut t the frecaddie psitin n the next hle. 4. If the hle yu are appraching is par 3, yu shuld g t the tee with the players. While the players are getting ready t tee ff and even between hitters, yu shuld clean the clubs in each players bag. Yu must be very careful nt t rattle any clubs r make any nise while a player is addressing his ball r preparing t hit. While yu are ding this, yu must als be alert and watch each players tee sht s yu can visually mark the balls. Once each player has teed ff, yu must hustle t the green area and again rake traps, clean balls and attend the pin. In summary, yu can see that gd fre-caddie/cart chaser jb is a tugh jb and requires a lt f hustle and sme running. The gd part is that it pays well and yu d nt have t carry a glf bag. On the Putting Green When yu apprach the putting green, take yur player's bag directly t the edge f the green clsest t the teeing grund f the next hle. Never place the bag n the green r in a psitin where a ball might hit it. Once yu player's ball has reached the putting green, they may mark it with a cin and remve it. When he marks his ball, ask him if yu may clean it. When yur player hands r tsses the ball t yu, wipe the ball with yur twel remving all traces f dirt and grass. Return the clean ball t yur player immediately. D nt walk acrss the line f anther player's putt. The line f the putt is the area the ball will travel between the ball and the hle. When all player's have reached the putting green, the caddie whse player reached the green first is respnsible fr the flagstick. If it is yur turn t care fr the flagstick, apprach it being careful nt t make a step in the "line" f any putt. Step ver r walk arund the "line" f every ball n the green. Usually the player farthest frm the hle will putt first. Wait at the flagstick fr instructins. The player will tell yu whether yu shuld PULL r TEND the flagstick. If a player says, "Pull the flagstick" r "Pull the Pin", lift it carefully frm the hle and take it t the edge f the green. Remember n t walk n anyne's putting line. Hld the flag s it des n flutter (put yur hand ver the flag) and wait quietly and keep still. If a player says, "Tend the flagstick" stand near the flagstick s yur shadw desn't crss the player's putting line r the hle. Befre the put test that the pin is nt stuck in the hle by raising it a little and replacing it while yur glfer is lining up the putt. Hld the flag against the stick s it desn't flutter. As sn as the player strikes the ball, remve the flagstick. Lift it straight up s the end desn't damage the edges f the hle. Cntinue caring fr the flagstick, taking instructins frm each player putting. After all players have finished putting ut, replace the flagstick securely in the hle. On hles where anther caddie has the respnsibility fr caring fr the flagstick, stand quietly at the edge f the green near the player's bags. Repairing Ball Marks When a ball lands n the Putting Green, its weight and velcity bruise the grass and make an indentatin in the sd. If it is repaired immediately it will grw back in several days if nt it will kill that spt in the green. On mst curses it is the player's respnsibility t repair all ball marks n the Putting Green.

13 At the cnclusin f the last hle, the eighteenth hle, yu must cunt the clubs in yur player's bag, making sure nne f them have been lst n the curse. As yu cunt the clubs, wipe them with yur wet twel at the bag rack. Replace the head cvers n the wds. Ask yu player what he r she wuld like dne with the clubs. They will prbably ask yu t return them t the club strage area, bag pickup if they are returning them t their car r they may put them in their car immediately. After yu have cleaned, cunted the clubs and returned them t the apprpriate area as identified by yur glfer, thank yur glfer fr the pprtunity t caddie fr him r her and hw yu enjyed it, tell yur glfer yu are finished and wuld like t be paid. If yu are paid thrugh the pr shp r caddie master make sure the prper paper wrk is cmplete. If yu brrwed twels frm the club make sure yu return them t the prper area. Any garbage f yurs r yur glfer shuld be put in the garbage r recycle bins.
