1 Main Office Accounting Events Pro Shop Grill Room March 2017-A Word from Our President, Dan Hensley President s Report February was a busy month for the club and your board. You may have noticed the activity at the pool complex. We have begun a much-needed renovation to its changing rooms, grill, and annex. We are doing most of the work with our staff and it will be completed well before the swim season. Also, our Superintendent, Andy and his team have been hard at work on the course. The wet, warm winter has created some unique challenges. Some budgeted labor costs have been saved by a reduced need to cover the greens. However, those savings have been off-set by trap, greens and pre-emergent work. As for the Board, I m very appreciative of their commitment. As I discussed in previous communications, we must enhance our club for today and the future. That starts with a Vision, a Mission, and Guiding Principles. We have defined them as: Our Vision: To be the premier golf and social club in Coweta County Our Mission: To provide the services and facilities of an exclusive and private club to our members Guiding Principles (all our activities should): Apply to the entire membership Demonstrate good stewardship of Club assets Ensure a revenue stream to support existing and future programs Act in the long-term interest of NCC Along with these guiding principles, we have defined 51 strategic priorities in 4 major categories (defined as high, medium and low priority). Expand membership (4 high priority goals) Board lead: Todd Browning Ensure financial stability (5 priority goals) Board lead: Winn Wise Enhance membership experiences (10 priority goals) Board Lead: Julie Hoffman

2 Improve facilities and services (7 priority goals) Board lead: Julie Wicker With Jim Poulakos help, we have developed a process to track our progress and will be sharing that with you monthly. I will be working with club manager Jan Alligood over the next few weeks to determine the best format for your review of the information, and a method to allow you to ask questions and receive answers. In closing, I will touch on one major initiative.a membership drive (later in this publication, we will share the program s details). To sustain our club and to generate the revenue stream needed to maintain our assets and offer enhancements, we must grow. We currently have approximately 350 members. We would like to bring in an additional 100 new members across all our membership categories. To achieve this, we need the help of all members. Please tell your family and friends, about this great opportunity. Also, let them know about our vision to enhance our offerings and our facilities. See you at the Club, Dan Hensley

3 A Word from Our GM, Jan Alligood February & March provided us with some great weather days. It was a pleasure seeing so many of you taking advantage of your club. We continue to work on the improvements suggestions you shared on our membership survey. As you visit the club, each departments manager has designed specific improvement goals as a result of your feedback. March 1- Chef Mike rolled out a new Grill and To-Go Menu, the new menu is more concise and includes your favorites. Dano, Head Pro & Director of the new Learning Activities Center, launched the Junior & Ladies programs. Check out these opportunities and more to come in the Learning Activity Center Section. Our controller, Debra, has set up the ability to pay on your account in the proshop. Andy is working with the Century Club and MGA on course improvements. The MGA provided funds for new flags and pins, cups and rakes. The Century club has finalized the improvements and work should be done soon. The hillside next to #17 tee box is in the final clearing stages-tree trimming up coming. We hope you are noticing positive changes. Please keep the suggestions coming. Jan

4 A Word from Our Superintendent, Andy Scott February Recap and Looking Ahead It s March and the golf course is waking up from a short winter nap. I typically don t like March, because of the weather pattern it brings. If anything in 2017 is for sure, we really have no clue what to expect weather wise this month and even beyond. Hopefully the trend will continue as it has, with warmer temperatures. The first 2 months of the year have been wet! We are still in a moderate drought, but a dent has been made in the deficit. Greens are doing great considering the amount of rain and overcast days we have had YTD. We have begun to prepare them for Spring. That includes lightly top dressing, fertilization and lowering the height of cut. While the temperatures have been ideal, we don t need to get too aggressive with the greens. There are young, tender plants that need to harden a bit before we begin our cultural practices such as verti-cutting and aggressive brushing. One good frost can set the greens back into dormancy and we need to protect for that. 3 years ago we covered greens on March 24, so until we see consistent night time temps at least in the 40s we will hold tight. You may have also noticed a slower green speed; this is because we don t expect to be mowing grass in January and February. Greens are growing at a good rate, which is good, but just not for speed. We double cut and roll to help this. This transition will be short lived. Overall, the rest of the course is in good shape. Weed control is complete until next month, fairways are greening up and we continue to do our best with the bunkers. We spend a lot of time after storms pumping and repairing them to get them playable as possible. We are working on a project along the creek on #4. We are removing the privet and other small trees that have taken over. This will help the turf, also improving line of sight and playability. We hope to have this completed soon. Also on tap for this month is the arrival of new John Deere equipment. We have several pieces coming and my staff is very excited. Thank You, NCC Men s Golf Association for your contribution to purchase new flags, sticks, cups and rakes. We appreciate it very much. Those items will be rolling out very soon! Adopt-a-Hole of the month goes to Mr. and Mrs. John Fanning, Hole #3. They had a Falcons flag flying proudly for the hometown team. Despite the outcome of the game; it was a great addition to the hole. Thank You Fannings! Also a big Thanks to all the others who continue to cleanup, pick up and decorate their holes. 5 A Word from our Controller, Debra Jenkins You can now make payments to your account in the ProShop. All auto payments are scheduled the night of the 15 th to process on the 16 th of each month. Once in the process, we are unable to cancel the auto payment. Stop by and see me at the club! Debra

6 A Word from our Golf Pro, Dano Korytoski Tips from the Pro Let s talk a little about putting. Putting is the easiest thing in golf to learn, but the hardest thing to perfect. Everyone feels it should be simple to putt a stationary ball into a round cup. I feel the same way. However, there are many factors that make this a more daunting task then it appears. Here are a few of the factors that we as golfers need to take into account: speed, amount of break, grain, face angle, alignment and even outside elements. The first 5 categories we can control, but the last (elements) we can t. We could do all the things above correctly and still not make the putt due to a wind gust, a bump in the green or maybe a stone, which are all outside elements. Out of these fundamentals, the ones I see most golfers doing incorrectly are alignment and face angle. It is very important to get the ball aimed on the correct line and then start the ball rolling on the correct line to give the golfer the best chance of making the putt. Other than the actual stroke (which can be a whole other article), putting comes down to feel or preference in; grip (holding the club), actual grip (size) and type of putter (mallet, blade or other). After discussing all these factors to putting, the most essential thing is to believe you are a good putter and that confidence will take you a long way. Canongate MGA contacted us regarding a grudge match, similar to our grudge match with White Oak. Kris Pope, MGA Board Member, got back with the Canongate MGA representative to discuss a match and was able to work out details. We will be playing this grudge match Oct 7 th (at Canongate) and Oct 8 th (at Newnan). Mark your calendars for this new event. As a reminder, our next event will be the Par 3, scheduled for Saturday, March 18 th. Members of the Ladies Golf Association are invited to join us for this event. Look for the sign-up sheet on the bulletin board to your left as you enter the Club. If you re not an MGA member, please consider joining. Come out and meet other golf members, but most of all, have FUN and enjoy!

7 Introducing The Newnan Country Club Learning & Activity Center We are excited to announce the launch of NCC s Learning & Activity Center. The effort is led by Dano Korytoski, Head Professional and Center Director. The center has 4 primary focus areas: golf, swim, tennis and other fun activities. Currently, we have: Junior clinics scheduled every other Saturday at 5pm Ladies Clinics every other Wednesday at 5pm Coach Dano is forming our own PGA Jr. League. Follow this clink the password is PJLNCC or check in the Proshop for details. The Putters League kicked off last week and will play the 2 nd & 4 th Wednesdays at 6pm We invite ladies all ladies to come out, no matter you golf experience. No cost to play-$3.00 for prize pot. Bring your putter and a friend! Outside bar- weather permitting and stay for dinner! Coming soon- Swim lessons and NCC swim team Tennis lessons and clinics We welcome Albert Dumas, tennis Pro, to our Learning & Activity Center. And more to come! 2017 NCC Tennis Coach My name is Albert Dumas. Born and raised in France, I started playing tennis when I was 7 years old. During my teenage years, I reached my highest ranking in the junior (top 50 in France). I also got my degree to teach tennis around that time. After coming to the U.S in 1995, I just kept on playing team tennis. After closing my business of 17 years, three years ago, I began teaching tennis at the Summit YMCA. Finally, at the beginning of this year, I took over the tennis coach position at Heritage school. Thank you for the opportunity to be a part of the Newnan Country Club activities.
