2 2018 MEMBER EVENT BOOK Birdwood Members, Thank you for your continued support and interest in the Birdwood Golf Course event schedule. We enjoyed a very exciting and competitive 2017 season with a great mixture of long- and new members challenging for the top prizes at our tournaments. It was our pleasure to host so many of you at the course throughout the year, and we look forward to seeing you at Boar s Head in the coming months. Enclosed in this Member Event Book you will find inion on all of our planned events for the 2018 season. The Members Cup points competition will include events between the Turkey Scramble and the Tournament of Champions. You may sign up by calling the pro shop ( ) or via the online link for the specific event ( All members are encouraged to sign up for an annual USGA handicap. The $30 includes a subscription to Virginia Golfer magazine. Please note that an official handicap is required for most of our events and is a necessity to be considered for net prizes. 5 Members Cup The Members Cup is a competition tracking members participation and performance in Birdwood events. Members receive points for participating and for their finish in each event. No registration is necessary to be eligible for the Members Cup; all members participating in events receive points. Points are distributed based on participation and event importance. The specific point allocation per event will be determined by the number of participants. The point breakdown shown on the following page may be adjusted as needed based on participation. The top 15 in the point standings compete in the Tournament of Champions. Tournament of Champions The top 15 in the Members Cup Points Standings are eligible to compete in the TOC. The TOC is a Net Event. Member Cup Points will be reset for the TOC (same as PGA Tour s FedEx Cup). The Member with the most points at the conclusion of the TOC will be the Member s Cup Winner. The Medalist of the Tournament of Champions will win the Colomb Cup. For example, if three members tie for second place, they will each receive one-third of the total points awarded to second, third, and fourth place. Members on the same team are all considered to tie. For events with multiple flights/divisions points are only awarded in one flight/ division (typically that in which the member has the better showing). No fractional points will be awarded and points will be rounded to the nearest integer.

7 Weekly Games gross saturday skins We will be offering a skins game for members teeing off between 7:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. each Saturday between March 31 and September 2. Sign up by informing the pro shop you wish to play in the game before you tee off. $5 entry registers you for the gross competition. Please submit a signed scorecard to pro shop staff following completion of round. All players participating in the skins game must play with at least one other person. Play your normal. The pro shop staff will award skins at the end of the day. sunday members game The popular Sunday noon game is back for another season! The pro shop staff organizes a weekly game with rotating s. Entry is $5 per person. Most weeks feature team events and emphasize net competition. Prize allocation varies based on number of participants. Gather on the Birdwood Patio following play for scoring and prizes. Sunday games begin April 1 and end September 23.

8 Toughest Day Tournament February 25, 2018 Hole locations will be Tough. 18 hole Stroke play. Gross and Net Prizes. Handicap index required for net competition. Play your normal tee, which will be moved back one tee box from its typical location. The Blue Tees will be on the tips. Open to All 11:00 a.m. Shotgun Start $40 Members / $65 Public Includes Greens Fee, Cart Fee, Chili, Soft Drinks, & Water

9 Opening Day Tournament March 25, Person Scramble. Gross and Net Divisions. Men: white Women: orange Men (50 & over): gold Junior (16 & under): gold Open to All 9:00 a.m. Shotgun Start $60 Members / $85 Public Includes green, cart, range balls, proximity contests, team prizes and buffet lunch.

10 Member - Guest Tournament June 9-10, 2018 Welcoming friends for competition. 2-man teams. Saturday best ball, Sunday Scramble. Field will be flighted prior to play based on team handicap. Men (49 & under): white; Men (50 & over): gold; Women: orange All Birdwood members and their guests Tee s beginning 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, 8:30 a.m. shotgun on Sunday. Saturday evening Social (Hors d oeuvres and drinks) with a chipping and putting contest. $260 per team includes: practice round, cart, range balls, lunch both days, Saturday evening social, proximity contests and team prizes champions Dave & David Hondula

11 Flag Day Tournament July 4, 2018 Show your Independence Day Spirit and take a flag with you as you play your July 4th round at Birdwood! Participation is easy and fun. Add your USGA Course Handicap to 72 (par for the course) to determine your stroke limit. Place your flag in the ground where your ball comes to rest once your stroke limit is reached. Your flag might be in the 15 th fairway, creek on #17, 18 th hole, or even in the middle of the 1st or 2nd fairway (start over on #1 if you have strokes remaining). Men (49 & under): white Men (50 & over): gold Women: orange Open to all golfers with USGA Handicap. 15 Jefferson Cup August 10-12, 2018 entry $260 / $180 for Birdwood Members Deadline: Monday, July 31 st 54 Holes - medal play (play from blue ). Senior Division (over 50; play from white ). Super Senior Division (over 65; play from gold ). Practice Round may be played Monday - Thursday August 6-9 (cart not included). Range balls are included before tournament rounds. Flights will be determined by the first two-day totals. Ties for First Place in the Championship Flight will be resolved by Sudden Death play-off. All other ties will be resolved by matching of cards. Social, steak dinner and $10,000 Putting Contest at Birdwood Clubhouse on Saturday, August 12 th from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Sponsored by Colonial Buick GMC. Casual attire. 20 Orange and Blue Cup Tournament December, 2018 Official Date is Pending Renovations Our annual Ryder-Cup style event features 2-12 man teams competing in both doubles and singles matches. Members are invited to the event by the professional staff, based on the tournament participation throughout the year. The top 20 players in the Members Cup point race are guaranteed an invitation; the remaining 4 spots and alternates will be filled by the professional staff team captains. 6 holes Foursomes, 6 holes Fourball, 6 holes Singles Determined by the pairing/ players handicaps.
