1 Newsletter of Shortland Waters Golf Club 21st February, 2018 FROM THE SHED (at 3.00pm Friday afternoon) The hot dry run of weather rolls on for another week. It has been a long time since the course has seen a Summer as dry as this one. The dams are getting quite low as well with so much evaporation and trying to keep water up to the course. On some better news the new holes on Lorna Street 5 and 6 have been sprigged and solid turfed around green tees and bunkers. The greens will be seeded over the next few days. Again some rain would be nice to get the new grass growing. Next week s tasks, weather permitting; Roll greens. Apply fungicide to greens. Pick up branches. Cut green surrounds. Trim teetops. Cut fairways. Cut tees. Mow rough. THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK GOLF SHOP SUPER PIN RESULTS The results of the Super Pin Comp for this week are: 14/02/18 Handicap 0-18 Garry Christie $36 Handicap Ron White $36 17/02/18 Handicap 0-18 Garry Christie $62.50 Handicap Terry Thompson $62.50 A GRADE PENNANTS On Sunday Shortland Waters played Belmont at Pacific Dunes and were on the wrong end of a 6.5/0.5 defeat. No winners on the day but and Bill Buchanan halved his match. Next game is on Sunday at Newcastle at 7.30am when we play Muree. Whoever is trying to bring you down is already below you!!

2 From the Treasurer Dear members, by now those of you who registered their with the club, would have received a membership renewal notice. All renewals for those not registered are available at the clubhouse. It will be of great assistance to your club if you can renew soon for as you are aware the development construction works continues to adversely impact club revenue. Until we can open the new golf holes and have a fully operational clubhouse including dining, the club will continue to struggle without your continuing support. My sincere thanks, on behalf of your board, to all those regular stalwarts for their continued support. club. Remember, with your continuing support, Shortland Waters Golf Club remains your MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS We have heard isolated situations where member s renewal notice is for an amount different to that on last year s Subscription Notice. If your membership classification is unchanged, and this has been your experience, please notify the office so that this can be corrected. If you are unable to attend the office between 9.30am and 2.00pm Monday to Friday please contact Reception on or by on office@shortlandwaters.com.au You have the option of paying your fees at the office or by direct deposit electronically through your bank. Payments at the office can be in cash, by EFTPOS card or by Credit Card but Credit Card payments do attract a surcharge. TEE TIME CANCELLATIONS We realise that unexpected things might arise that prevent you from making your pre-booked tee time. We would ask however that, when this occurs, could you please notify the Golf Shop on as soon as you are able. Failing to notify not only causes difficulty with having to rearrange playing groups, at times, but also can contribute to delays in keeping the field on time. More importantly, it often prevents other members or visitors getting the opportunity to play. Having to turn potential payers away because of this is also a loss of revenue to the club. We seek your assistance in this regard.

3 FINAL LAYOUT PART 5 of a series Hole #9; Par4; Men s Tee 382m; Ladies Tee 309m Teeing off near the existing 15 th tee, this longish par 4 will take up the space currently occupied by the practice/turf nursery area to the left of the 16 th hole. The dogleg right will be guarded by two fairway bunkers protecting the dogleg forcing golfers to play out to the left. The best alignment off the tee will be the left fairway bunker located about 270m from the back tee. The straightaway green will be protected by a lone left hand side greenside bunker and a drop off on the back left. Hole #10; Par4; Men s Tee 334m; Ladies Tee 295m Will occupy the existing 17 th hole and play as is. Work done on Lorna Street last week is defining some of the holes more clearly. The sprigging of the fairways is adding a nice tinge of green. Tuesday morning s rain will be a big help.

4 Below is a detailed drawing of the five new holes under construction on Lorna Street. For the enthusiasts who would like to know distances etc for the new holes this drawing provides that information. Remember that, in most cases, male players will use the middle of the three tee block on each hole. The back tees will be for championship events. 8th 5th 6th 7th 4th

5 TEACHING PROFESSIONAL The board is pleased to announce the appointment of Andrew Rollo as our Head Teaching Professional. Andrew comes with an extensive resume in golf instruction: Turned professional 2009 Graduated with Merit, PGA Training Academy 2012 Showing full competency in Golf coaching, Sport science, Equipment technology, Business management, Rules of golf, Tournament organisation. Fully qualified British PGA Professional Current status AA Membership # Scottish Qualification Authority - Sports coaching-golf- Level 4 Andrew has continued his studies while Coaching and custom fitting at: Lead golf instructor at Gordonstoun International Boarding School North of Scotland Golfers Association - Elite junior team instructor North of Scotland Golfers Association FlightScope instructor All squads Scottish Golf Union Junior Development Coach Lead instructor North District Development Centre Employed by Nairn Dunbar Golf Club to oversee custom fitting ClubGolf Scotland - Primary schools golf instructor Self employed golf instructor As you can see Andrew is well qualified and experienced in providing individual golf lessons, conduction clinics for adults and juniors ranging from beginners to more advanced groups He is also qualified and experienced in the use of Flightscope which is one of the options to be considered when we are in a position to open the Virtual Reality Technical Centre in the Golf Shop area. Andrew is available for golf instruction for members and nonmembers and can be contacted through the Golf Shop on to make the necessary arrangements. Andrew will continue his role in the golf Shop as well as being available for lessons etc on other days. Greg Jones Club Captain

6 OLD CLUBHOUSE The contractor is making a big impression on demolition of the old clubhouse. Next week might be your last chance to get a photo for old time s sake. If you choose to do this, please remain outside the safety barrier as this task is now approaching its most dangerous phase with respect to safety. 2 nd HOLE Many of us find the 2 nd Hole to be a frustrating situation but, again, last Saturday we had another Hole in one.
