1 CELEBRATING 26 YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF IN AMERICA Orlando Chapter - American Singles Golf Association August 2018 From the President Fitting for the Dog Days of Summer, we had our July social happy hour at Yellow Dog Eats in Gotha. It s a unique place with craft beers, pulled pork any style and a Volkswagen van with Jerry Garcia photo on the window (see photo in this issue). A great throwback to the 60 s era. I hope that all of our members are having a great summer and that you can join us for La Cita this month, Jekyll Island in September, Florida Cup in October or one of our weekly golf events. Happy summer and stay cool. ~Carolyn Aldorfer Social Chair As our president indicated, our July Happy Hour at Yellow Dog Eats was a great success, and for August, we are going to head to downtown Orlando to visit Ace Café. Linda Marcet will be hosting, and she hopes that you will join her on Thursday, August 16, to check out this very cool place! We will enjoy happy hour food and drink pricing from 5 to 7, and don t be dissuaded by the downtown location Ace Café has a huge free parking lot right on site and is easy to find. So, make your plans now! ~Virginia Borchert Membership Chair Summer golf is in full swing and we have some great courses and trips lined up so please join us. You can RSVP there but also RSVP through Evite when the invitations come out. ~Pam Reese Golf Chair In between the rains and the heat, ASGA Orlando has been playing some great golf, and we really appreciate the loyal members who sign up and play with us week after week. Our longtime member Sue Walther joined us for golf at The Country Club of Mount Dora after a long break from golf, and this issue includes a shot of her short putt on a Par 3 there after a beautiful tee shot. Our recently completed trip to Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club was our best Upcoming Multi-Chapter Events (see SinglesGolf.com/events) River Cruise - Paris, France, September 11-18, This cruise is SOLD OUT, however, you can get on the wait list. This will be a river cruise up the Seine River. We'd like to spend days in France. Of course, if you have the time, you can spend some extra days in Paris with friends. Everyone agrees that the golf villas there are top notch, and a great time was had by all. Closest to the pin prizes were awarded to Dave Graham, Craig Malaney, Paul Sommer, and Bob Driscoll. The highlight of the trip occurred on the final day, when our member Paul Yamin had a HOLE IN ONE on the Par 3 Hole #7! Paul, who reported that this was his third hole in one, proved once again that he is a charming fellow, inventive dancer, and a talented golfer. (See photos in this newsletter.) Congratulations, Paul! Our trip to La Cita Golf and Country Club will be taking place during the first weekend in August; we have 12 members going on that trip. There will not be any local golf planned for that weekend, so use the time to hit the driving range or take a golf break. The invitation to the Jekyll Island trip (September 21-23) will be coming out soon. Closest to the Pin Awards: June 23 at West Orange Country Club Melvin Darby; July 1 at The Country Club of Mount Dora Bob Driscoll. There were no female winners at either outing, so we are pulling for you, ladies!
