Call: or info@playsafeoutdoors.com Use WARNING! Do not allow children to walk close to, behind, or in front of moving items. WARNING! Do not allow children to twist swing chains or loop them over the top bar. This may reduce the strength of the chain. WARNING! Teach and instruct children not to swing empty seats. 1
WARNING! Instruct children how to sit in the center of the seats and swing with their full weight on the seat. WARNING! Instruct children not to use the equipment in any manner other than intended. WARNING! Instruct children not to get off the rides while in motion. WARNING! Instruct children to dress appropriately. Loose fitting clothing is potentially hazardous when using the swing set. WARNING! Equipment may be slippery when wet. Do not allow children to use the equipment when wet. WARNING! Parents should check swing chains to insure they are secure and cannot be looped back on themselves. WARNING! Verify that all swings and chains are secured at both ends. WARNING! Never attach any materials that are not specifically designed for use with this swing set, such as jump ropes, pet leashes, rope or cords and other chains as these pose a potential strangulation hazard. Do not exceed the intended weight limit or maximum number of users for the swing set (see Specifications on page 5). Adult supervision of children is required at all times when on or around this swing set. Never leave children unattended. Be sure to observe your children and ensure they have the strength and skills to enjoy all the rides safely before using them on their own. Parents should regularly check openings and surfaces, such as slides, for items that may be hazardous. Do not swing too high or at an angle. The use by children under the age of two can result in entrapment between the seat and backrest because the child s body may pass through the opening, causing entrapment of the child s head. Such entrapment may result in strangulation. Never place children in a rearward facing position or with legs between the seat and backrest. 2
Consumer Information for Playground Surfacing Material One of the most important things you can do to reduce the likelihood of serious head injuries is to install shock absorbing protective surfacing under and around your play equipment. The protective surfacing should be applied to a depth that is suitable for the equipment height in accordance with ASTM Specification F1292. There are different types of surfacing to choose from; whichever product you select, follow these guidelines. Maintain a minimum depth of 9 inches (22.86cm) of loose-fill materials such as wood mulch/chips, engineered wood fiber (EWF), or shredded/ recycled rubber mulch for equipment up to 8 feet (2.43m) high; and 9 inches (22.86cm) of sand or pea gravel for equipment up to 5 feet (1.52m) high. Note: An initial fill level of 12 inches (30.48cm) will compress to about a 9 inch (22.86cm) depth of surfacing over time. The surfacing will also compact, displace, and settle, and should be periodically refilled to maintain at least a 9 inch (22.86cm) depth. NOTE: Do not install home playground equipment over concrete, asphalt, or any other hard surface. A fall on to a hard surface can result in serious injury to the equipment user. Grass and dirt are not considered protective surfacing because wear and environmental factors can reduce their shock absorbing effectiveness. Carpeting and thin mats are generally not adequate protective surfacing. Ground level equipment-such as a sandbox, activity wall, playhouse or other equipment that has no elevated play surfacedoes not need any protective surface. Use containment, such as digging out around the perimeter and/or lining the perimeter with landscape edging. Don t forget to account for water drainage. Check and maintain the depth of the loose-fill materials, mark the correct level on play equipment support posts. That way you can easily see when to replenish and/or redistribute the surfacing. Do not install loose-fill surfacing over hard surfaces such as concrete or asphalt. You may be interested in using surfacing other than loose-fill materialslike rubber tiles or poured-in-place surfaces. Installations of these surfaces generally require a professional and are not do-it-yourself projects. Review surface specifications before purchasing this type of surfacing. Ask the installer/manufacturer for a report showing that the product has been tested to ASTM F1292 Standard Specification for Impact Attenuation of Surfacing Materials within the Use Zone of Playground Equipment. This report should show the specific height for which the surface is intended to protect against serious head injury. This height should be equal to or greater than the fall height vertical distance between a designated play surface (elevated surface for standing, sitting, or climbing) and the protective surfacing below-of your play equipment. Check the protective surfacing frequently for wear. The information above has been extracted from CPSC documents, Section 4 of Outdoor Home Playground Safety. Copies of these documents can be obtained by sending a postcard to the: Office of Public Affairs, USCPSC, Washington D.C., or by calling
Location and Placement of Your Swing Set Proper placement and maintenance of protective surfacing is essential. Be sure to: Extend surfacing at least 6 feet (1.83m) from the equipment in all directions. Swing set must be placed a minimum of 6 feet (1.83m) from any structure or obstruction such as a fence, garage, house, overhanging branches, laundry lines, or electrical wires. Do not place your swing set underneath electrical lines. If you must, ensure that there is a minimum overhead clearance of 6 feet (1.83m). Do not install swing set over concrete, asphalt, packed earth, grass, carpet, or any other hard surface. A fall on to a hard surface can result in serious injury to the equipment user. For to-fro swings, extend protective surfacing 14 feet (4.27m) in front of and behind the point of suspension of the swing. The following diagram shows how much obstacle-free surfacing should be used for the swing set. The shaded portion is where the protective surfacing must be placed. 14 ft. (4.27 m) 6 ft. (1.83 m) 6 ft. (1.83 m) 6 ft. (1.83 m) 6 ft. (1.83 m) 14 ft. (4.27 m) Note: Use the CPSC surfacing materials recommendations on page 3. Dimensions are not to scale. 4
Specifications This swing set is designed for use by children ages 3 to 10 under adult supervision. The maximum number of children this unit is intended for is 12, with a weight of 105 lbs (47.64 kg) each. The maximum fall height for this swing set is 7 or 84 (2.13m) and the maximum fall height for the See-Saw is 48 (1.22m). Single Ride (i.e. Swing) 105 lbs (47.64kg) Double Ride (i.e. Glider) 210 lbs (95.25kg) This product is designed for normal residential use only. This product is not designed for use in day care, nurseries, or other public places. This product is to be assembled by adults only in the manner described within this owner s manual. The swing set must be anchored. Anchors are sold separately and not included in this carton. Contact Customer Service for more information. Anchoring Anchoring is necessary to prevent tipping, lifting, and overturning. Playsafe recommends anchoring the swing set in concrete, especially in soft or sandy soil. When this is not possible, anchors can be purchased by calling To anchor the swing set in concrete, dig a hole at least 5 (12.7cm) deep and 10 (25.4cm) to 12 (30.5cm) in diameter. Place the swing set leg in the hole, preferably on a brick or stone to keep if from sinking. Be sure the swing leg is set 3 (7.6cm) below the ground. Likewise, make sure that the support of the See-Saw is anchored in the same manner. Pour concrete around the legs and fill the hole. Cover concrete adequately using the recommended surfacing instruction in this manual. Allow the concrete to cure according to the concrete manufacturer s instruction before use. Assembly For easier assembly, Playsafe has pre-assembled some of the parts for you. Most of the screws and bolts should already be in place. If removal of this hardware is required for certain assembly steps, it should be replaced in its original position. If it isn t necessary to remove the hardware, check to make sure it is tight before allowing children on the swing set. Only adults should assemble or disassemble the swing set. For safety reasons and ease of assembly it is recommended that two adults assemble the swing set. The swing set includes two 5mm Allen wrenches. You will also need an adjustable wrench, a Phillips head screwdriver and a needle-nose pliers. Points to remember when locating and placing the swing set: Place your swing set on level ground a MINIMUM of 6 (1.83m) from any structure or obstruction such as a fence, garage, house, overhanging branches, laundry lines, or electrical wires. Do not install home playground equipment over concrete, asphalt, packed earth, grass, carpet, or any other hard surface. A fall on to a hard surface can result in serious injury to the equipment user. Do not place your swing set underneath electrical lines. If you must, ensure that there is a minimum overhead clearance of 6 (1.83m). The swing set should be assembled near the location it will be permanently anchored. Refer to the CPSC surfacing materials recommendations on page 3. WARNING! Unexpected movement (i.e.: tipping, lifting and overturning) of the swing set may result in serious injury or death. The swing set must be securely anchored before use. 5
