4 WELCOME Rolling Green is one of the country s top classic, private golf clubs committed to the game of golf. Designed by William Flynn and Howard Toomey on 157 rolling acres, Rolling Green opened for play in 1926 and is one of Flynn s historic designs. US WOMEN S AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP In 2016, Rolling Green celebrated its 90th anniversary and hosted the third oldest USGA championship, the U.S. Women s Amateur Championship. 5 HISTORY William S. Flynn, Golf Course Architect Born: Milton, MA Died: Philadelphia, PA William Flynn graduated from Milton High School where he played interscholastic golf and competed against his friend, Francis Ouimet. Flynn laid out his first course at Hartwellville, VT in He was then hired to assist Hugh Wilson with the completion of the East Course at Merion Golf Club. Flynn remained at Merion after it opened and served as its greens keeper for a while. He found additional work laying out golf courses. He soon resigned to pursue a full time career as a golf course architect. He and Wilson had hoped to form a partnership, but Wilson s failing health prevented it. Flynn went out on his own. Flynn was known to have both an Irish wit and an Irish temper. He was apparently fearless and would take a flight in the most improbable homemade aircrafts simply on a dare. After World War I, Flynn formed a golf course design and construction company with Howard Toomey, a prominent civil engineer. Flynn would design a course, and Toomey would handle the engineering, construction and financial aspects of the project. The art of greens keeping was Flynn s second love. Flynn was forever experimenting with turf grasses, trying over fifty strains on one project in Chicago. As a golf architect, William Flynn was an innovator. He routinely installed three separate sets of tees as early as the 1920 s. He insisted the shortest be called the forward tees, rather than ladies tees so men would not be discouraged from using them. At Rolling Green, it says something for the enduring quality of Flynn s work that the sequence of the holes has never been changed, nor have there been any major revisions. He achieved the founders goal of building a golf course for golfers. JUNIOR PROGRAM Rolling Green s Junior program helps to develop life-enhancing values such as honesty and integrity, through golf and character education. Players engage in competitive golf while asserting good sportsmanship. The beginning step of the program is the Golf Clinic Program which exposes children to swing fundamentals, short game instruction and golf etiquette with the Golf Shop staff handling teaching and instruction. The Clinics are very popular for younger children under 11 years old as well as for children who are just starting with the sport including teenagers. The second phase of the Junior Golf progression is the Friday morning summer program. On these seven Fridays in June, July & early August, the junior golfers get the back nine of the golf course for several hours. Players get to play the course, keep score and track their progress each week. The most competitive phase of the Junior Golf program at Rolling Green is the Junior Interclub team. Matches are played at 5 local courses each year. This program has a very high success rate of engaging young golfers, teaching them the game and instructing them in good sportsmanship and quality character building.

6 MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES & INITIATION FEES BONDHOLDER: Full golf and voting privileges Must be at least 21 years of age Initiation Fee is $12,500 Club Bond is $1,000 BONDHOLDER WITH SPOUSE: Spouse has golf privileges all day with some restrictions INTERMEDIATE: Full golf privileges, no voting rights Senior (Ages 30-34) Initiation Fee is $6,000 Junior (Ages 24-29) Initiation Fee is $4,000 INTERMEDIATE LEGACY: Full golf privileges, no voting rights Applicant must be a son or daughter of a bondholder that has been a bondholder for at least 10 years Senior (Ages 30-34) and Junior (Ages 24-29) Initiation Fee is $2,000 HOUSE: Golf privileges up to 12 times per year including guest rounds Member will be billed a green fee each time they and their guest play the course Can play the course anytime with some restrictions Initiation Fee is $2,000 with $500 payable with application. Balance due at the time of billing after membership is approved SOCIAL: No golf privileges and may not play as a guest. Initiation Fee is $300 due with application NON-RESIDENT: Member must reside a minimum of 100 miles from the Club May play the course up to 12 times per year any time the course is open (except for an event) except on Tuesdays before 11:00 am Initiation Fee is $300 payable with application All members have use of the clubhouse and dining facilities.

7 APPLICATION & APPROVAL PROCESS APPLICATION Person applying must be 21 years of age. Person applying must be sponsored by two Bondholders in good standing with the Club. Application must be thoroughly completed and submitted to the Club along with the non-refundable $100 application fee. Date of application, fee and initiation deposit will determine position on waiting list. (if applicable) Name, address and business affiliation of person applying will be circulated to the general membership for further information and feedback. INITIATION FEE PAYMENT New members may pay their initiation fee upfront or in installments. Any request for refund after membership is approved must be approved first by the Committee and then the Board. REFERENCE LETTERS All applicants are required to obtain five reference letters. References need not be club members, but that is preferable. Reference letters should be addressed to the Membership Chairman, and sent to the club by mail, ed to or faxed to APPLICATION REVIEW After the application is complete and all reference letters received, they will be reviewed by the Membership Committee. Applicant may be requested to play a round of golf with members of the Committee prior to interview or final approval. INTERVIEW An interview with the Committee will be scheduled. The interview will give you the opportunity to tell the Committee about yourself and why you want to become a member. The Committee may also have questions about your application, sponsors and references. APPROVAL At the completion of the interview, the Committee will discuss the application and vote on whether or not to recommend the applicant to the Board for membership. If approved by the Committee, the Chairman will make a motion at the next Board meeting to recommend you for membership. Upon majority vote of the Board in favor, the application will be approved.
