2 May Newsletter Presidents Message Allow me to introduce myself, I am Scott Ellinghuysen, the new President of Westfield Golf Club. As a new President, I would like to start a dialog with our season pass holders on issues concerning the club. I will be having these articles from time to time in our monthly newsletter. More frequently during the golf season, less other times. To borrow a theme from Sesame Street, the word for the day is respect. Respect is defined by Webster s as a feeling or understanding that someone or something is important, serious, etc., and should be treated in an appropriate way Respect can take on many different meanings at our golf course and facilities. Respect can mean returning your empty bucket to the driving range shed after finishing your practice shots. Respect means raking the bunker after you hit your sand shot. Respect is listening to the pro shop and staff when they ask you not to play as a five-some. Respect is being courteous to all of our hard working employees and staff. Respect means not driving your golf carts right up to the edge of tee boxes and greens. Respect is also gently reminding our friends when we see them doing some of these things. Respect also goes both ways. Respect should be given by our employees to all of our customers, regardless if they are season pass holders or a first time visitor. Respect means fixing your divots on the greens. (While you are bending over, fix another couple as well!) Respect means having tolerance for new players as they try and learn our great game. Respect means entering all of your scores into the handicap computer in a timely and accurate manner. Respect the game of golf. Thanks and let s have a great year at Westfield!

3 Golf Professional s Remarks for the Westfield May Newsletter- Welcome to May!! The grass is green, the trees are leafing out, and the pollen is in the air! Temperatures are warming up and the golf course is getting some activity, at least when the nice days are here. By now, ALL the Leagues, but Westfield leagues, as well as the outside evening leagues, are active and playing. Hopefully, everyone has been able to get out a couple of times and enjoy the golf course, and possibly driven the new golf cars! The first tournament has also been completed for the season. The Early Bird Scramble was held on April 24 th, after being postponed from the week prior. The next event is the 3-Man Scramble on May 14 th. (This event is a pick your own team event.) Hopefully, we can have a little bit better turn out for this next event. I will have this posted in the golf shop, but I am going to have a notification about hole #4 and the area we have in the construction zone from a couple of years ago. The same as we did last year, I am going to evoke a local Rule. Through the green (meaning everywhere, except a hazard), you may lift your ball and place your ball onto some grass (staying in the same cut your ball originally was in), if your ball is laying on bare dirt and/or loose gravel. If we are playing winter rules, you may clean your ball, but if we are playing summer rules, you may NOT clean your ball. I m doing this for a safety reasons. There is a lot of loose pea rock and other things over in that area that could do damage to a club, a wrist, or have something fly up and hit someone in the face or eye. We will revisit this area again next year to see if we will continue this. Please note, this is just on Hole #4 only! All in all, the golf course is in AMAZING shape for this time of year!! Jeff, and crew, have been doing a wonderful job!! Let us all do our part in keeping it that way!! The more we can do as a golfing public, the easier it is on Jeff and the grounds staff. PLEASE. Rake bunkers after play (your foot prints and others, if needed), fix your divots in the fairways, and repair your ball marks (both yours and others) that you see on the greens. Pick up any trash you may find on the course and dispose of it properly. Also, as always, please adhere to the golf course cart rules for the day. That not only means keeping the cars on the paths when it says to do so, but also to do your best to keep the carts AT LEAST 30 feet from tees and greens and all times!! I will investigate getting some flags for legitimate handicapped reasons regarding cart use and where those could be driven, but otherwise, there is no reason anyone should have a golf cart any closer than yards off of all tees and greens (when no cart path is available, and ON the cart path where it is available!!! There is a Rules of Etiquette for Westfield GC. They are, as follows. Etiquette has to do with manners. It is through the courtesy that we show to other people that we show our respect for them. Respect the course and its Rules. Good behavior, sportsmanship, and fair play should be the focus of all golfers. Arrive to the course soon enough to give yourself time to warm up and be ready to play. Be patient and have respect for others and their abilities. Be polite and courteous to those around you, including staff and personnel, as well as other members/season pass holders. Displays of frustration, anger, or outbursts of temper (such as yelling, screaming, throwing clubs, etc... are unacceptable and is in some cases dangerous to yourself and others. Keep your voice down on the course to avoid distracting others. Be considerate for other golfers on any adjacent tees, greens, and fairways.

4 Always book a tee time through the Golf Shop, even if the course is not busy. This helps avoid any unnecessary disappointments and frustrations. ALL PLAY begins on Hole #!, unless otherwise directed from and given permission by Golf Shop Staff to begin on any other Hole. EVERYONE must have their own set of clubs to play. No sharing of bags! No 5-somes permitted on the course before October 1, unless given special permission to do so by the Golf Shop. (5-somes add at least minutes to a round of golf, even if moving along at a fast pace.) Starting May 1 st, ALL Westfield Members/Season Pass Holders, will receive 10% OFF all hard goods and soft goods purchases in the Golf Shop. (There is a perk to being a Westfield Season Pass Holder..) This discount is good for HARD and SOFT goods ONOY!! (Meaning- golf clubs, golf balls for sale, tees, gloves, shirts, jackets, hats, etc ) The following are EXCLUDED from the 10% Off deal. No Golf Car Rentals No Golf Club Rentals No FOOD or SNACKS or DRINKS No Green Fee Purchases No Season Pass Purchases No Range Ball Tokens or Punch Cards No Handicap Fees No Tournament Entries No SPECIAL ORDERS (10% off good for IN-STOCK items only!!) No Additional Discounts on Items Already On Sale No Lessons or Club Repair Please be patient with Golf Shop Staff as we transition to this program. Some of them know you, some of them may not. IF we ask for proof of holding a Season Pass, please do not be offended. JUNIOR GOLF- The Junior Golf Program has now been finalized. Details are below. (It is not stated, but it is preferable that the kids have their own clubs. I do have a few sets for sale in the Golf Shop, and I can get more.) Westfield Junior Golf Summer Program 2016 The Westfield GC Junior Golf Program is designed for junior golfers of all ages and abilities, but primary focus is on juniors who are new to the game of golf. During the program, we will start out with a few instruction days at the Westfield Driving range. These instruction days are run by PGA Professional, Brian Paulson, and some volunteer assistants. We will work from the hole back towards the tee box during the instruction days. We start with putting, then possibly chipping, then short irons, middle irons, longer irons-hybrids-and fairways, and ending with drivers. Focus is to have the kids understand that there is one basic swing for all clubs in the bag. We stress grip, stance, posture, and alignment for everyone, but

5 especially beginning golfers. We will then take the kids onto a hole at Westfield to show them what the basics are of a hole (Tee ground, fairway, rough, hazards, and green.) We stress proper fundamentals, but also proper etiquette and good sportsmanship. We will have little contests during the instruction days do have some fun and measure how the kids are progressing. Instruction days have two waves: 9:00am and 10:30am. We can handle around kids in each session. If I have to add another session, I will consider that later, but only if we over-fill with kids. I try to take younger ones in the first session and older ones in the second session, but I also understand that there are some scheduling conflicts and issues with the kids other activities. We try to do our best to accommodate. THE PROGRAM IS.. FREE!!! Instruction days: Monday, June 13; Wednesday, June 15; 9:00am OR 10:30am Monday, June 20; Wednesday, June 22; Friday, June 24; Monday, June 27; Wednesday, June 29 After the instruction days are over, we will take a small break for the 4 th of July Holiday, and then have the kids assemble at the golf course starting at 8:00am on WEDNESDAY, JULY 6 th. During this time, the kids will be able to play golf in groups of their own making. I am opening up the tee sheet from 8:00am through 9:15am each Monday and Wednesday Morning until mid-august. (Last day of course time will be Wednesday, August 17 th.) During the course time, we will have volunteer supervisors with those groups that need it. Some kids will be teeing off from the 200 yard marker, others from the Red tee markers, other kids from the 150 yard markers. There is no competition, this is just fun golf time where the juniors have their own space in the morning to get acclimated and accustomed to the golf course. (For those who remember, it will be more like the old Park Rec golf time of years ago.) AGAIN. THIS PLAY TIME IS ALSO.. FREE!!!! We may even have a small reception at the end of the season for the kids. (TBD.) Call the Westfield GC Golf Shop to sign up or to answer questions (507)

6 RULES HELP- WATER HAZARDS (Yellow) and LATERAL WATER HAZARDS (Red) WATER HAZARD (or DIRECT WATER HAZARD) is marked by YELLOW paint or stakes. Under Penalty of ONE (1) stroke Play a ball as near as possible at the spot from which the original ball was last played (re-tee or hit from fairway, etc.) Drop a ball BEHIND the water hazard, keeping the point at which the original ball last crossed the margin of the water hazard, directly between the hole and the spot where the ball is dropped, with no limit as to how far behind the water hazard the ball may be dropped. (This is not Line of Flight. There is no such thing!) LATERAL WATER HAZARD is marked with RED paint or stakes. Same options as listed above for Direct Water Hazard, and additionally, under penalty of ONE (1) stroke. Drop a ball outside the lateral water hazard within two club lengths of, and not nearer, the hole where the point the original ball last crossed the margin of the lateral water hazard. A point on the EQUADISTANT and OPPOSITE side of the lateral water hazard from the hole. Keep in mind you can always play the ball as it lies within the margin of either water hazard. You CAN NOT ground your club. No penalty. (Not always recommended. Especially if wearing white pants or shorts!)

7 May 2016 Events STEAK OR FISH FRY STEAK OR FISH FRY Friday May 6 th, 13 th, 20 th, & 27 th For these nights you will be able to choose between bacon wrapped 5oz sirloin steak ($13.00+tax), grilled chicken breast ($11.00+tax) and one of either batter fried or broiled cod ($10.00+tax). All include baked potato or French fries and are served with salad or clam chowder and a cup of coleslaw with Chef Todd s desert of course. Broiled or batter fried shrimp are also available for tax.

8 GRILL NIGHT Thursday s May 5 th, 12 th, 19 th, & 26 th Something for everyone. We will be serving from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Chef Todd will grill your food for you. Six items to choose from: Hamburgers, Chicken Breast, New York Strip Steak, Shrimp, Walleye and Todd s Featured Dinner of the evening. Todd s Featured Dinners are stated below for each week with the price. (Tax will be added to the price.) All dinners will be served to you with soup or salad, potato, vegetable and dessert. On the lighter side, you can now order off the Burger Night menu on Thursday nights also. Todd s Featured Dinner for Grill Night on: May 5 th Salisbury steak, mashed potato & gravy, veggie, soup or salad and desert $10.00 May 12th Lasagna, veggie, bread stick, soup or salad and desert $ May 19 th Roast turkey dinner, mashed potato & gravy, stuffing, veggie, soup or salad and desert. $10.00 May 26 th grilled pork chop, baked potato, Veggie, Soup or Salad and Dessert $12.00 Please call for reservations by Wednesday for Todd s Featured Dinner.

9 BREAKFAST BUFFET Sunday s, May 1 st,15 th, 22 nd,29 th Serving from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM This buffet will consist of: Sausage, bacon, breakfast potato, French toast or pancakes, biscuit and gravy, fresh fruit, toast, beverage and eggs to order prepared by Chef Todd. The price is $9.75 plus tax for adults and $6.50 plus tax for children Ages 6 to 12. HAPPY HOUR Happy hour is Sunday thru Thursday from Three PM till Six PM. All happy hour prices are active during these times with Busch Light 16oz cans for only $2.00. Also for a limited time starting this month during happy hour you will be able to receive five count buckets of sixteen oz Bud, Bud Light, Ultra, Mich Golden, Miller lite, and Coors light for only $ ** Westfield serves Daily Lunches except for Sunday s from 11:00 AM until 2:30 PM ************ Try one of Chef Todd s fine soups. You will have a choice of 2 soups every day. Or, order a burger or sandwich off the Grill Menu. In a hurry, call ahead and we will have it ready for you when you get here or you can do a carry-out.

10 MOTHERS DAY BRUNCH MAY 8 TH TWO SEETINGS We would appreciate it if everyone attending the first seating be finished by noon so we can reset the table for the second seating. The menu will consist of carved Roast Sirloin and Roast Turkey, Bacon, Sausage, Scrambled Eggs, Breakfast Potato, French toast, Fresh Fruit, Fruit Breads and Rolls, Mashed Potatoes and Gravy, Buttered Corn and Prince Edward vegetables, a Delightful Dessert Table and Beverage. The price is $17 per person plus tax and $8.00 plus tax for children ages 6 to 12 years of age. This is a champagne brunch, so free champagne will be butlered to your tables by our cocktail staff.
