We look forward to an exciting season, highlighted by hosting the 117th playing of the Wisconsin State Golf Association s State Amateur Championship. Please use this booklet as a guide to help you plan your summer, so that you can enjoy all the golf events and activities you wish. 4 2018 Weekly Events Women s Day The women play a weekly game on either Wednesday mornings or afternoons (refer to schedule on next page). Players are charged $60 at the beginning of the season for the weekly prizes and there is an optional skins game each week. Men s Day The men play a weekly game on Thursdays beginning with a shotgun start at 1:00 PM. Each week players put in $10 covering the weekly game, gross and net skins, and the trifecta. Players are also charged $75 at the beginning of the season which pays for weekly appetizers and special events. Couples Golf A 1:00 PM shotgun is reserved on Fridays for those wanting to play golf with other couples. Various team games will be played followed by a great social experience featuring the club s Friday Night dining menu. Golf Handicaps Handicaps at the club are maintained in the golf shop and are administered through the Wisconsin State Golf Association (WSGA). It is a requirement of the club that all members that wish to participate in club tournaments must keep an accurate handicap at the club. An annual handicap fee of $36 is charged to each member, which covers the costs billed to the club by the WSGA for handicap administration. ALL rounds played must be posted on a timely basis and subject to peer review, including 9-hole and incomplete rounds (please see the golf shop for correct posting procedures). This includes any rounds played at other courses, including during the club s off-season. Members who do not post scores may be subject to penalties determined by the Golf Committee, such as the posting of a penalty score on a player s scoring record. 4

8 Memorial Day Game The Memorial Day Golf Event is an open golf event for members and their guests playing golf on Memorial Day. The format is the 2 Net Best Balls of your group, and can be played at anytime during the day. $5 per Player. Father-Son Challenge On Father s Day we will be running an event for fathers and their sons and/or grandsons. The format is a combined 1 Net Best Ball of 2 PLUS the Final Round Score of the player of the team s choice in the 2018 U.S. Open. There will be a $30 charge for your first team and a $15 charge for each additional team. Independence Day Flag Game Anyone playing on the 4 th of July may participate in our annual flag game. Each player receives an American flag and a target score (based upon your course handicap) prior to teeing-off. Once you hit your target score, you place your flag on that spot where the ball stopped. In some cases, the player may have to continue an extra hole or two if he or she is playing well. Sign-up as you check-in for golf on the 4 th. $5 per Player Dr. Kate Hospice Pro-Am The Dr. Kate Hospice Pro-Am is an annual fundraiser hosted by the club. Teams are comprised of four amateurs and one professional playing in a 2 Best Balls of 5 competition. The club encourages its members to participate in this event and is proud to support the charity. Contact the Golf Shop to sign-up and for more information. Patriot Golf Day Patriot Golf Day is a 2 Best Ball of 4 team event open to any groups playing that day. Proceeds from this event will be donated to the Folds of Honor Foundation. Patriot Golf Day is a national fundraising event that is promoted by the PGA of America, and is typically held during the Labor Day Weekend each year. Players will be charged a $30 entry fee. Half of your entry fee PLUS additional donations will be sent to the Folds of Honor Foundation. 8

9 2018 WSGA State Amateur Championship Monday, July 23rd Thursday, July 26th The WSGA State Amateur has been conducted annually since The State Amateur, contested over four consecutive days, is annually conducted on one of Wisconsin s finest courses and continues to be recognized as the premier amateur tournament in Wisconsin. The State Amateur has never been played north of an imaginary west-to-east line stretching from Eau Claire to Wausau to Green Bay. Minocqua Country Club is excited to host the event and welcome the best amateurs in the state. Last season at Oconomowoc Golf Club, 19-year-old Matt Tolan of Eau Claire shot and finished at 7-under par 273 for his first State Amateur victory. Nine qualifiers will be held across Wisconsin in late June and early July to get into the event. The closest Qualifying Site to Minocqua will be at Timber Ridge Golf Course on June 21. Registration is done online through the WSGA website. There will be communication throughout the season regarding various volunteer opportunities available for members during the event. 9

10 Date: Saturday, June 2nd, 2018 Time: 9:00am Shotgun Start Format: 2 Best Ball of 4 Tees: To be determined by Handicap 2018 The Mixer NEW EVENT FOR 2018! This will be a mixed pairings event, with teams consisting of men and women. Teams will be randomly selected on Friday evening prior to the event and will consist of four players. Lunch will follow golf. We look forward to a fun event to kick off the 2018 season! 10

11 2018 Men s Match Play The Match Play is a season long tournament. Any member of the club may sign up to participate, and each match has two weeks to be completed. It is the responsibility of the players to schedule the match within the time frame as indicated on the bracket. Sign-Up: Sign up in the Golf Shop by Sunday June 3rd. Match-ups will be determined by random draw on Monday June 4 th and will be posted in the locker room. All contestants will be contacted on Monday June 4 th with their match-up as well as the date it needs to be completed. Deadlines: Preliminary Matches June 21st Round of 32 July 5th Round of 16 July 19th Quarter-Finals August 9th Semi-Finals August 23rd Finals September 7th Entry Fee: $20 per Person Each player will receive 100% of his course handicap as determined from his OFFICIAL handicap index and the set of tees he selects. The player with the lower handicap will play to scratch and the player with the higher handicap will receive the full difference between the two Champion Tracey Ahlborn Women s Round Robin Match Play June 19th and June 26th The ladies will play a series of Fourball (1 Best of 2) matches against each of the teams competing in the competition, with each match lasting 9 holes. Each player will receive 100% of her course handicap as determined from the current OFFICIAL handicap index. The player with the lowest handicap will play to scratch and the other players will receive the full difference between their respective handicap and the lowest handicapped player. Matches will be for points and the teams that win the most points will qualify for a Shootout, where the champion will be crowned Champions Diane Auler & Nancy Wescott 11

18 2018 Couples Championship Date: Saturday, August 18th, 2018 Time: Format: 1:00 PM Shotgun Start Pinehurst (Hit, Switch, & Pick) Both players will tee off on each hole. Player A will then hit Player B s ball, and vice versa. From there, the best shot is selected and the player whose second shot was not selected hits from that spot. Continue to alternate until the ball is holed. Each team will receive 40% of their combined handicaps. 19 18 th Annual Lakeland Cup Minocqua CC vs. Timber Ridge GC Hosted in 2018 by Minocqua CC This annual GROSS competition features 12 players from both clubs in a Ryder Cup style match for the Lakeland Cup. MCC has a Foresight Launch Monitor. The high resolution camera captures up to 10,000 frames per second. Data given includes ball speed, launch angle, spin, distance and height. 22 Minocqua Country Club Golf Rules Dress Code Shirts with collars for gentlemen are required at all times. Collars are not required for women, however tops should be in good taste. Short shorts, tank tops, bathing, warm-up, or jogging attire are not considered in good taste. Only on the tennis courts are tee shirts and other athletic attire appropriate. Denim may not be worn on the golf course or practice facilities. Gratuities For convenience of all members, the full gratuity shall be automatically added to the appropriate golf charges. Therefore, please refrain from any additional tipping of the staff. Care of the Course On the fairways and tees, replace large divots. For divots to small to replace, please use the provided sand mix. Golf cars should never be driven into the native areas, which includes the long grasses, woods and hazards. Repair all ball marks on the greens. Social Member Social Member have access to the course five times in a season and may bring guests. Guests of Member With the exception of Family Guests, the same guest shall not be introduced more than 5 times in a season. Of those visits, two of them may be unaccompanied without the member present. Family Guest A member may allow Family Guests privileges at a reduced rate. There is no limit to the number of times a family guest may play provided they are accompanied by the member. If the Guest is not accompanied by the member, then he or she is limited to five rounds per season. 22

23 Minocqua Country Club Playing Opportunities In addition to the many events and games described in this booklet, there are several other daily games that happen throughout the season. Listed is a sampling of the most popular groups. Please contact the Golf Shop and we can point you in the right direction for a game that suits your interests and playing abilities! Men s Monday Skins Roughly three to four groups of men play each Monday beginning at 9:00am in a Skins Game format. Ladies Monday 18-Hole Group Roughly two to three groups of ladies play Monday mornings at 9:30am in various formats each week. Ladies Monday 9-Hole Group Groups of women play 9-holes on Mondays beginning at 10:00am. No format, just playing for fun. Friday Couples 9-Hole Group Play 9-holes with other Couples on Fridays at 3:00pm. Once finished, join the Friday Couples group in the Clubhouse for drinks and dining! Ladies Friday 9-Hole Group Groups of women play 9-holes on Friday beginning at 10:00am. No format, just playing for fun. Men s Saturday Skins Groups of men get together for a Skins Game on Saturday mornings beginning at 8:30am. 23
