1 NUS INDOOR ARCHERY OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP 2008 The National University of Singapore Archery Club cordially invites you and your club members to participate in the upcoming National University of Singapore Indoor Archery Open Championship This will be a two-day event and archers from all clubs and schools are welcomed to this competition. Details of the competition are as follows: Date : 14 th (Saturday) to 15 th (Sunday) June 2008 Time : 8:00 am 7:00 pm on both days Venue : NUS Multi Purpose Sports Hall 2 Guest of Mr. Michael Palmer Honour: Member of Parliament (Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC) Categories: Standard Class: 2 rounds of 10 ends of 3 arrows at 18m, 40cm single face. Recurve Open: 2 rounds of 10 ends of 3 arrows at 18m, 40cm vertical triple face. Recurve Close: 2 rounds of 10 ends of 3 arrows at 18m, 40cm vertical triple face. Compound Open: 2 rounds of 10 ends of 3 arrows at 18m, 40cm vertical triple face. Team Elimination Event: 4 ends of 6 arrows at 18m, 40cm triangular triple face. 2 Please Note that: Recurve Open is open to all Recurve archers including overseas archers. Recurve Close is ONLY open to local and non National Training Squad archers. Payment received is non-refundable and non-replaceable, except in the event where archers cannot register due to maximum capacity. In such cases, a refund by cheque will be made after the event. Amendments to Teams will not be accepted after 11 th June 2008 (Wednesday).

3 Entries after registration deadline will be subjected to an additional administrative fee of S$5.00 per archers. Lunch will be provided ONLY for Recurve Open and Compound Open participants. Dinner reception will be provided after the prize presentation ceremony. Registration will be on a first come first served basis. Team managers and coaches are required to attend a briefing on 7th June 2008, 1100 Hrs outside NUS Sports & Recreation Centre Multi-purpose Sports Hall 5. 4 COMPETITION FORMAT A) Sighters Round Before the commencement of the Individual Qualification Round, there will be 2 ends of sighters. Archers can shoot any number of arrows within the time limit of 2 minutes for each end. Please note that sighters rounds will only be conducted on the day of the competition, i.e. there will be NO public sighting on the day before. There will be sighters rounds before the Team Elimination event. B) Individual Ranking The individual ranking consists of a total of 60 arrows in 2 rounds. Each round will consist of 30 arrows: 10 ends of 3 arrows per end. The time limit for each end is 2 minutes. Archers will be ranked according to their total scores for 60 arrows. C) Team Elimination Round The team elimination round is applicable for these 5 categories: Standard Class Category (Men & Ladies) Recurve Open Class Category (Mixed) Recurve Close Class Category (Mixed) Compound Open Class Category (Mixed) Format of team shoot: One match consists of 24 arrows: 4 ends of 6 arrows per end. Each team member will shoot 2 arrows per end (2 arrows x 3 archers x 4 ends = 24 arrows). All 3 archers in the team are to finish shooting before the time limit of 2 minutes per end. Each team member will shoot his two arrows in any order, each arrow at a different target face.

5 1. RULES & REGULATIONS Standard Category: Archers who had participated in another higher level division will not be eligible for participation for this category. The bow will be of a simple design, either a take-apart type (with wooden or metal riser) or of one-piece construction. In both types of bow, the limbs will be of wooden and/or fibreglass construction. The bowstring material may not be of a higher specification than Dacron. The arrow rest will be of a simple, flexible or rigid design and it will be non-adjustable. A simple non-adjustable pressure point may be used and will be placed no further back than 2cm from the throat (pivot point) of the handle. One simple draw check indicator, audible or visual, may be used. This indicator will give only one indication of draw length. The bow sight will be of simple construction and must not include any vertical rack and pinion or screw type of micro adjustment. Lateral (windage) adjustment may be made by use of a screw type adjuster. Lateral adjustment that featured micro adjustment must be flushed to the side. The sight and any attachment to which it is fixed must comply with the note below. The sight point must not be of fibre optic type. Any stabilization used must comply with the Note below. Torque flight compensators must not be used. Plunger or pressure button may be used but they must be a dead plunger. Arrows must not exceed a specification of XX75 or equivalent, and will be of an equivalent price range and performance. The nocks will be of simple construction, either conical or insert fitting. The points will be conical or ogival in shape. The vanes will be of soft plastic material or of natural feathers. Only straight vanes are allowed, curled vanes are prohibited. Finger protection must not include any form of stiffening or locating platform or any other similar device to help hold, draw and release the string. Finger separators are allowed.

6 Field glasses, telescopes or any other visual aid must not be used for spotting arrows. Shooting spectacles must not be used. Accessories that are permitted include bracers (arm guards), dress shield, bow sling, belt or ground quiver and tassel. Note: The unstrung bow complete with permitted accessories (stabilization when extended in any direction) must be able to pass through a hole or ring of 12.2cm inside diameter ± 0.5mm. Recurve Open & Close Category: This event is open to all categories of international and local archers using the Recurve bow. Risers: Multi-coloured bow risers and trademarks located on the inside of the upper and lower limb are permitted. Risers including a brace are permitted provided the brace does not consistently touch the athlete s hand or wrist. Bowstrings: Bowstrings are permitted to have any number of strands, may be of different colours and may be of the material chosen for its purpose. One attachment is permitted on the string to serve as a lip or nose mark. The serving on the string must not end within the athlete s vision at full draw. The bowstring must not in any way assist aiming through the use of a peephole, marking, or any other means.

7 Arrow Rests: The arrow rest may be adjustable Any moveable pressure button, pressure point or arrow plate may be used on the bow provided they are not electric or electronic and do not offer any additional aid in aiming. The pressure point may not be placed any further back than 4cm (inside) from the throat of the handle (pivot point) of the bow. Bow Sights: Must not incorporate a prism, or lens, or any other magnifying device, leveling, or electric or electronic devices nor will it provide for more than one sighting point The overall length of the sight (tunnel, tube, sighting pin and/or other corresponding extended component) will not exceed 2cm in the line of vision of the athlete. A sight may be attached to the bow for the purpose of aiming and which may allow for windage adjustment as well as an elevation setting. It is subject to the following provisions: A bow sight extension is permitted; A plate or tape with distance marking may be mounted on the bow as a guide for marking, but must not in any way offer any additional aid; The sight point may be a fibre optic sight pin. The total length of the fibre optic pin may exceed 2cm, provided that one end is attached outside the athlete s line of vision at full draw, while the part within the athlete s line of vision does not exceed 2cm in a straight line before bending. It can only provide one illuminated aiming spot at full draw.

8 Stabilizers: Stabilizers and torque flight compensators on the bow are permitted. They may not: 1. Serve as a string guide; 2. Touch anything but the bow; 3. Represent any danger or obstruction to other athletes on the shooting line. Arrows: An arrow consists of a shaft with head (point) nock, fletching and, if desired, cresting. The maximum diameter of arrow shafts will not exceed 9.3mm; the heads (points) for these arrows may have a maximum diameter of 9.4mm. All arrows of every athlete must be marked with the athlete's name or initials on the shaft, and all arrows used at any end will carry the same pattern and colour(s) of fletching, nocks and cresting, if any. Finger Tabs: Finger protection in the form of finger stalls or tips, gloves, or shooting tab or tape (plaster) to draw, hold back and release the string is permitted, provided they do not incorporate any device that will assist the athlete to hold, draw and release the string. A separator between the fingers to prevent pinching the arrow may be used. On the bow hand an ordinary glove, mitten or similar item may be worn but must not be attached to the grip of the bow. An anchor plate or similar device attached to the finger protection (tab) for the purpose of anchoring is permitted.

9 Accessories: Bracers (arm guards), dress shield, bow sling, belt or ground quiver and tassels are permitted. Also permitted are limb savers. Compound Open Category: This event is open to all categories of archers using the compound bow. Bow: The peak draw weight must not exceed 60 lbs. Cable guards are permitted. A brace or split cables are permitted, provided they do not consistently touch the athlete s hand, wrist and/or bow arm Bowstrings: May be of different colours and of the material chosen for its purpose. Attachments are permitted on the string such as a lip or nose mark, a peep-hole, a peephole hold-in-line device, loop bowstring, etc. Arrow Rests: The arrow rest may be adjustable Any moveable pressure button, pressure point or arrow plate may be used on the bow provided they are not electric or electronic and do not offer any additional aid in aiming. The pressure point may not be placed any further back than 6cm (inside) from the throat of the handle (pivot point) of the bow.

10 Bow Sights: The bow sight attached to the bow may allow for windage adjustment as well as an elevation setting, which may also incorporate a levelling device, and/or magnifying lenses and/or prisms. Electric or electronic devices are not permitted. A bow sight extension is permitted. The sight point may be a fibre optic sight pin and/or a chemical glowstick. The glowstick will be encased so as not to disturb other athletes and to provide only one sight point. Stabilizers: Stabilizers and torque flight compensators on the bow are permitted. They may not: Serve as a string guide; Touch anything but the bow; Represent any danger or obstruction to other athletes on the shooting line. An arrow consists of a shaft with head (point) nock, fletching and, if desired, cresting. 11 Finger Tabs, Release Aids: A release aid may be used provided it is not attached in any way to the bow nor incorporate electric or electronic devices. All Categories: A draw check indicator, audible and/or visual, may be used provided it is not electric or electronic Prescription spectacles, shooting spectacles and sunglasses may be used. None of these may be fitted with micro-hole lenses, or similar devices, nor may they be marked in any way that can assist in aiming. The spectacle glass of the non-sighting eye may be fully covered or taped, or an eye patch may be used. Any electronic communication device or headset in front of the waiting line is strictly not allowed.

12 Team Category: For team events, the crossing of classes is forbidden. For example, only Standard class archers are eligible for Standard Team event and vice versa. Only archers participating in the individual event can enrol in the team event. Team placement will be according to the total scores of the team s individual archers. Miscellaneous Dress code for all archers, including coach, must be standardized club T-shirt and covered shoes. Coaches who coach more than one team can choose to wear the Team shirt of any one of the teams he is coaching. All tops must cover the midriff when at full draw. Shorts or skirts must not be shorter than the athlete s fingertips when the arms and fingers are extended at the athlete s side, nor longer than the top of the athlete s kneecap. No denim jeans or oversize, baggy or cargo type pants or shorts to be worn on the field of play (FOP). Equipment check will be done during the specified timings as detailed in the schedule. Any archer not present for equipment check will be disqualified. Archers are responsible for the use of legal equipments. No refund will be made for disqualified archers. Judges and the organizers decisions regarding all matters are final. Participants can only participate in 1 category. In case of controversy over any subject, all FITA rules and regulations apply.

13 Team Captains All clubs are requested to nominate one team member as the team captain/official of the club. The team captain of each club will be responsible for the well being and the dissemination of information to the respective teams. Also, team captains of every club must turn up thirty minutes before the competition for a briefing and to collect the event time table. The organizing committee reserves the rights to make any amendments to the above without prior notice. The information provided is correct at the time of printing.
