Fore May 15, 2017 FROM THE PRESIDENT_ Jesse Mendoza The 2017 AGCA Edwards/Zuloaga Memorial Golf Tournament is now history and Mike Lara, Jr is this year s champion.

The Eastwood High School girls team assisted at the putting tournament sponsored by Casa Nissan on Friday night and also played in the tournament.

The association thanks Casa Nissan, the Pelones (Alberto Orozco and Mike Zuloaga) and the Casa Nissan staff who took the time to play in this year s tournament.

If you happened to see a cameraman throughout the weekend out on the course, and in the clubhouse, that was Casa s man filming scenes for the commercials to be used for next year s tournament which

We had a very successful tournament and 134 golfers played this year. The Eastwood High School girls team assisted at the putting tournament sponsored by Casa Nissan on Friday night and also played in the tournament. Thanks to the girls and their coach, our own Jon Stovall! By the way, our AGCA treasurer, Adolfo Holguin won the putting tournament and his attempt to cash in on the $ putt fell short. The association thanks Casa Nissan, the Pelones (Alberto Orozco and Mike Zuloaga) and the Casa Nissan staff who took the time to play in this year s tournament. They are the main sponsor for this tournament and this year also sponsored two cars for the hole-in-one on two holes! Thanks again for your continuing commitment to Ascarate and its members! Did you notice the yardage markers that YOUR association donated to the county? This is part of the course improvement monies going to work to make Ascarate more attractive to play. Our next tournament is the annual Coach Sanchez Scholarship Golf Tournament on May 27th. 2 FROM THE EDITOR_ Sean Martinez The CASA Cup series has been extremely competitive this year and the rankings have seen some big movers each tournament. Thanks to the guys from Casa Nissan and all of you that braved the elements to come out and join us for the Edwards-Zuloaga tournament! And congratulations to the place finishers and winners of each flight, especially Mike Lara, Jr. who won our Championship Flight with an extremely impressive 1-over par, , in extremely challenging conditions. Our next tournament is the Coach Sanchez coming up in just 2 weeks (Saturday, May 27) and we hope to see all of you out there with us again as we celebrate Coach and raise funds for scholarships! The format has been changed to individual medal play with full handicap. Flights will be determined after the registration has been closed to ensure the most even groupings possible. Registration and tournament entry fee ($40) are due by Wednesday, May 24. For those that want or need to use a debit/credit card please contact Treasurer Adolfo Holguin to make those arrangements before the deadline. We are also selling raffle tickets for this tournament with all proceeds being put into the AGCA Scholarship Fund. Tickets are $10 each and there will be ten (10) $50 winners, five (5) $100 winners, and two (2) $250 winners, all selected after the conclusion of play on May 27. To purchase tickets please see any board member. As we near the end of the month please be aware that there is a junior golf tournament taking place June and they are in need of volunteers to follow the groups and be official scorekeepers. If you are available and interested in helping please contact Kristi Albers of the First Tee Program or our AGCA Vice President, John Figueroa. As always, we thank each of our nearly 200 AGCA members for making this the best golf course association in the city! If you have any suggestions or questions feel free to place them in the suggestion box next to the computer or contact any board member to present your ideas at the next board meeting. Lastly, as Memorial Day comes upon us please take some time to remember those that have sacrificed their lives while actively serving in our U.S. Military and the families they have left behind. We are extremely privileged to live in this country and to be protected by the brave men and women who serve in our Military!
