Whitney Stakes (G1) Purse: $1,200,000 Distance: 1 1/8 miles (Dirt) Age: 3 Year Old & Up Post Time: Race 9: 5:46 EST #6 Gun Runner - The level of improvement shown by this horse has been nothing short of spectacular. In February, he made his 4-year-old debut at Oaklawn Park and completely dominated his foes in the Razorback Handicap. After that, he went to Dubai and ran a "too good to lose" second before coming back to once again dominate in the Grade 1 Stephen Foster Handicap at Churchill Downs. In all of his races this year, he's basically been in a race of his own out front. He gets to the lead and never looks back. #4 Tu Brutus - He didn't run quite as well last time out compared to what he's been running lately, but he could rebound here. From a talent standpoint, he is the only one capable of hanging with Gun Runner, but he better get back to top form; otherwise, he has no chance. #5 Keen Ice - He won the Suburban Handicap last time out at Belmont Park, but that was his first win since the 2015 Travers Stakes. You know you can count on him to come with a big run at the end like he normally does. However, he needs a mile and a quarter to run his best race. Both of his big wins (the Travers and the Suburban) came going that distance. #1 War Story - He was a winner last time out in the Brooklyn Handicap at a mile and a half over Tu Brutus in an upset. He's wildly inconsistent, but on his best day, he can run with a lot of the big players in this division. #2 Breaking Lucky - His best career race came at Saratoga when he nearly won the Woodward Stakes last year. He will need to get back to that kind of effort to compete in this one. #7 Discreet Lover - He has very poor history in stakes races. His biggest win came in an allowance victory at Parx. He looks to be overmatched in this spot. #3 Cautious Giant - He's entered in this race as a rabbit for his stablemate, War Story. This tactic worked well last time out, but it will be tougher here against a horse like Gun Runner. Early Speed: Cautious Giant, Tu Brutus, Gun Runner Stalkers: Breaking Lucky, Discreet Lover Closers: Keen Ice, War Story Field Size: 7 With the entry of the rabbit Cautious Giant, the race should set up for closers. Tu Brutus is also a fast horse out of the gate, and of course, Gun Runner is pure speed. Several will try to beat Gun Runner because of this projected fast pace, but it's important to note that a similar scenario on paper set up in the same manner last time out in the Grade 1 Stephen Foster for Gun Runner. In that race, he still took the field wire to wire because he was simply the class of the race. If the speed is cheap, he has the ability to toss them aside and run a race all on his own. Expect that to happen again, but if it doesn t, then Keen Ice and War Story will benefit. The Play: He may be the chalky choice here, but there isn t much evidence that suggests Gun Runner can be beaten against this field of only six other rivals. Tu Brutus is the only horse that might have a shot, but he will have to bounce back in a big way to compete here. Much like last year with Frosted in this race, the key will be to play the heavy favorite on top and try to get prices underneath to round out exactas and trifectas. Gun Runner over Tu Brutus, War Story, and Keen Ice make sense here. If the price is somehow 3/5 or higher on Gun Runner, then a win bet would be a sufficient play. WIN 4/5 6 Gun Runner 6/1,4,5 PLACE 8/1 4 Tu Brutus SHOW 3/1 5 Keen Ice WILD CARD 6/1 1 War Story ALTERNATE 1 8/1 2 Breaking Lucky 6/1,4,5/1,4,5 ALTERNATE 2 25/1 7 Discreet Lover guaranteedtipsheet.com racingdudes.com Page 3! of 7!
The Longines Test (G1) Purse: $500,000 Distance: 7 Furlongs Age: Fillies 3 year olds Post Time: Race 8: 5:10 EST #8 Faypien - She ran a gutsy race going two turns in the Grade 2 Summertime Oaks last time out, digging in to hold off Mopotism for the win. Now she cuts back to 7 furlongs, which is probably what she is better suited for, as she did look to get a little tired last time out. #10 American Gal - New trainer Simon Callaghan has taken over the training duties, and in her first race of the year, she easily won the Grade 3 Victory Ride at Belmont Park. That's a great sign. She was very well behaved and could be ready for a big summer. #3 Chalon - She won a stakes last time out by over 6 lengths, so she looks to be ready to try tougher company now. This quality filly has won three out of four races in her short career, and there is a chance that we haven't seen her best race yet. #2 Your Love - Chad Brown's trainee is undefeated in her two-race career, and anything he throws onto the track right now is running well, so she's dangerous. This will be her first try against stakes company, but she has made the logical progression to this next step. She may not match up with the top few in this spot, but there are plenty of signs that point to her making another steady improvement in this one. #4 Tequilita - She's kept good company this year, exiting the Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks where she finished ninth, beaten a little over 9 lengths. Her last race at this distance was her coming-out party when she was victorious at Gulfstream Park in the Grade 2 Forward Gal in February. Her speed figures are a bit low compared to the top horses in this race, but the cut back in distance is her best chance to win. #9 Chanel's Legacy - She makes her first start for trainer Chad Summers and also will cut back in distance. That distance switch should be right up her alley, as her best races have come at 6 furlongs to a mile. #5 Vertical Oak - She won the Grade 3 Miss Preakness Stakes impressively three races back, and last time out, she was second to American Gal in the Victory Ride. She's finished on the board in seven of her ten career races while running against solid company. #1 Minnie Blip - This Churchill Downs shipper picks up Javier Castellano to ride after a 3-length victory against optional claiming company. It's going to be a class hike for her in this spot, but she's shown the talent level to give it a go. #7 Divine Miss Grey - Since the trainer change to Danny Gargan, this horse has flourished. She's won three straight races, each by multiple lengths. This race will be her toughest challenge by a good margin, though, as it will be her first race against stakes company. #6 Cursor - She won an allowance race last time out at Belmont Park, which is a positive sign heading into this one. However, she struggled in her only attempt against stakes company, last November's Grade 3 Tempted at Aqueduct. Early Speed: Chalon, Minnie Blip, Vertical Oak Stalkers: Your Love, Chanel s Legacy, American Gal, Faypien Closers: Tequilita, Cursor, Divine Miss Grey Field Size: 10 There should be a hot pace up front in this one. Horses like American Gal and Faypien will hopefully sit behind the speed in a good spot, as well as Chanel s Legacy. If some of the stalkers get involved with the duel up front, then Tequilita could benefit, and come flying late. The Play: Wide-open event here, so this is one you have to get creative with. Faypien and American Gal have to be the keys to the race, but you can get as creative as you want underneath in this affair. WIN 3/1 8 Faypien 2,3,8,10 BOX PLACE 5/2 10 American Gal SHOW 5/1 3 Chalon WILD CARD 6/1 2 Your Love ALTERNATE 1 15/1 4 Tequilita ALTERNATE 2 15/1 9 Chanel s Legacy 8/2,3,4,9,10/2,3,4,9,10 10/2,3,8/2,3,8 guaranteedtipsheet.com racingdudes.com Page 4! of 7!
Fast-Tipton Waya (G3) Purse: $200,000 Distance: 1½ miles (Turf) Age: Fillies & Mares 3 years old & up Post Time: Race 3: 1:10 EST #4 Suffused - She started the year off with back-to-back Grade 3 wins at Gulfstream Park. Lately, she s been a tough-luck loser in a few tougher races, but she's still has been competitive. She drops down in class here and likes this distance. #1 Apple Betty - She looks to be a mile and a 1/2 specialist. She ran well overseas in marathon races like this, and last time out, she earned her first victory in the United States at Belmont Park in an upgraded stakes at a mile and a 1/2 over Summersault and Lottie, who are also in this race. #8 Guilty Twelve - Winner of the Grade 3 Robert G. Dick Memorial Stakes last time out, she also won an allowance event to kick off her year. She'll be stretching out slightly in distance for this one, but she's been solid going long on the turf. She has trainer Graham Motion on her side, too. He can really train this type of horse well. #2 Estrechada - She finished sixth last time out in a stakes but was only beaten by a length and a half, so she ran fairly well. She always sees to be in the mix in these types of long turf races. #7 Summersault - She finished second to Apple Betty in her last race by only a 1/2-length. Three races back, she won the Grade 3 Orchid Stakes at Gulfstream Park. #3 Gone Away - She was third in the Grade 3 Robert G. Dick Memorial Stakes last time out to Guilty Twelve. She might not be able to match the class of some of the other horses in this race; her best win came against allowance company. #5 Lottie - The third-place finisher in a stakes last time out at Belmont Park, she was just narrowly defeated by Summersault and Apple Betty. She won an allowance going long on the lawn two races back. #6 Evidently - She has a bit of back class, having won a Grade 3 stakes at Aqueduct in November of last year, but she hasn't been running very well since. She looks to be outclassed in this spot. Early Speed: NONE Stalkers: Apple Betty, Suffused, Summersault, Guilty Twelve Closers: Esrechada, Gone Away, Lottie, Evidently Field Size: 8 This is going to be an extremely SLOW pace. The speed of the race probably comes from either Apple Betty or Suffused, but it isn't like they're speed burners on the front end. Apple Betty went wire-to-wire to win last time out and could do it once again, as she's drawn inside. Suffused has drawn in a nice stalking position. With this kind of pace, I wouldn t expect any of these horses to be too far off the lead, which could create an all-out sprint to the finish. The Play: You can count on Suffused and Apple Betty in this spot quite a bit, and then sprinkle in Guilty Twelve here and there. Suffused is the class of the field and the most likely winner, but Apple Betty could really control the pace with her early speed and rail draw. Don t be surprised if she lulls them to sleep on the front end. WIN 7/5 4 Suffused 1,4,8 BOX PLACE 3/1 1 Apple Betty SHOW 5/1 8 Guilty Twelve WILD CARD 6/1 2 Estrechada ALTERNATE 1 7/2 7 Summersault ALTERNATE 2 8/1 3 Gone Away 4/1,2,7,8/1,2,7,8 1,8/1,4,8/1,2,4,7,8 guaranteedtipsheet.com racingdudes.com Page 5! of 7!
Fasig-Tipton Lure Purse: $100,000 Distance: 1 1/16 miles (Turf) Age: 4 Year Old & Up Post Time: Race 7: 4:34 EST #1 Projected - He seems like the pure class of this field, having nearly won in much tougher races than this. Recently, he was second by a nose in the Grade 3 Poker Stakes and was also a close second in the Grade 2 Dixie Stakes on Preakness Day. Chad Brown has this one spotted very well. #3 Zennor - He has three allowance wins this year under his belt, including two in a row leading up to this race. This is the perfect spot for him here because it's for horses that have never won a grades stakes race in This could be a launching point to better races in the future #2 Takeover Target - He hasn't raced in a while, but he's shown his class on several occasions in the past, including a win in the Grade 2 Dixie Stakes in He's spotted well for his 2017 debut, giving Chad Brown a solid 1-2 punch in the race. #7 Blacktype - This consistent runner has been competitive in graded stakes races so far this year. However, he lost last time out in an allowance race, which was a bit concerning. He needs to bounce back here. #8 Ring Weekend - He has a tremendous amount of back class and won a couple of Grade 2 races last year. However, he hasn't looked as good this year, even losing in an allowance race at Delaware Park last time out. #4 Our Way - He kicked off the year with a Florida-bred stakes victory at Gulfstream Park and has since been competitive in a couple of graded stakes effort. He makes his first start of the year away from Florida in this one. #5 Vorticity - He'll be trying turf for the first time after a win in an allowance race over a sloppy track last time out. He will be a mystery in this spot. #9 Mohaymen - He s a main track only entry, but with rainy weather expected, he might draw into the race. However, he isn t anything close to what he was in the past and needs to prove his worth before being backed again in any spot. #6 Aubenas - A dangerous horse here, he'll be making his first start in the United States. It's hard to know how he ll handle the United States racing conditions, but he won 4 of 12 races overseas. Others: #10 Fire Away lost by just a nose last time out in an allowance race at Belmont Park. #11 Camelot Kitten will be making his first start in 245 days. #12 Macagone runs his best race on a soft turf track, so keep an eye on him if the weather gets bad. #13 Red Rifle is a main track only entrant for Todd Pletcher. Early Speed: Vorticity, Macagone Stalkers: Projected, Zennor, Our Way, Aubenas, Mohaymen, Fire Away Closers: Takeover Target, Blacktype, Ring Weekend, Camelot Kitten, Red Rifle Field Size: 13 Like most New York turf races, this looks like it will have a slow pace up top. Speed horses and stalkers should have a major advantage in this one. The Play: Projected looks like the strong play in this one. Perhaps single him on top of everything as far as exotic wagers go. Also, you can t forget about the other Chad Brown entry, Takeover Target. If the weather is bad, Macagone will be a player. WIN 9/5 1 Projected PLACE 15/1 3 Zennor SHOW 8/1 2 Takeover Target WILD CARD 8/1 7 Blacktype ALTERNATE 1 6/1 8 Ring Weekend ALTERNATE 2 12/1 4 Our Way 1/2,3 AND 2/1,3 IF RAIN: Throw 12 on tickets 1/2,3,7,8/2,3,7,8 2/1,3,7,8/1,3,7,8 IF RAIN: Throw 12 on tickets guaranteedtipsheet.com racingdudes.com Page 6! of 7!
Fasig-Tipton De La Rose Purse: $100,000 Distance: 1 mile (Turf) Age: Fillies & Mares 4 years old & up Post Time: Race 10: 6:22 EST #2 Sassy Little Lila - She should be a strong favorite for this race after narrow runner-up finishes in Grade 1s in two of her last three races. She won an allowance at Churchill Downs to start This Brad Cox trainee looks primed for a big summer and this could be the first step. #7 On Leave - She's run two races this year and both were very solid. She won a $100K stakes race at Belmont Park last time in workmanlike fashion and finished second in a Grade 3 at Pimlico two races back. In with a big shot here, the pace setup could suit her well. #10 Elysea s World - One of the more frustrating horses in training, she is so close to beating the top horses in her division but just comes up short each time. She's picked up minor awards in three graded stakes race this year. Maybe Saturday is finally the day she breaks through. #1 Thundering Sky - Back class from last year makes her appealing, but this year, she has yet to find her best form. This could be the spot, though, as she is due to run a big one. #11 Light In Paris - The other Chad Brown entry, which is usually a dangerous thing. Three races back, she won a $100K Stakes at Aqueduct. This race is tougher than that one, but it s encouraging that she s been close in a couple of graded events recently. #3 Freudie Anne - She's won three of her last six races, but it's skeptical if she can hang with the top ones in this race, as the field has come up very strong for a $100K race. #5 Boreale - A nice turf allowance win last time out at Delaware Park makes her appealing, as turf looks to be the surface she needs to be on, but she could still be outclassed in this spot. #4 Puca - A very classy runner who ran in the Kentucky Oaks as a 3-year-old, she dominated an off-the-turf allowance event last out. Important because this race could come off the turf if the forecast continues to look wet for the weekend. #6 Laur Net - Usually running within a few lengths of the leaders in most races, she's had trouble breaking through and getting a win, and it's a tough spot here. Others: #8 Bar of Gold runs best on the turf but has been beaten in the past by a few of the main contenders in this race. #9 Sky My Sky has been competitive in every race this year, but this is a very stiff test today. #12 Proper Discretion will be running on the turf for the first time today. #13 Clipthecouponannie is a main track only entry that will be dangerous if she gets in the race. Early Speed: Thundering Sky, Sassy Little Lila, Freudie Anne, Sky My Sky, Proper Discretion, Clipthecouponannie Stalkers: Puca, Boreale, On Leave, Elysea s World, Light in Paris Closers: Laur Net, Bar of Gold Field Size: 13 SPEED up front in this one. The pace will be hot, but a lot of the speed horses are main contenders here. Those that are able to sit off the leaders will benefit. On Leave probably has the best chance to be helped by the pace, as she can sit back and watch it all unfold from near the back. The Play: It's another wide-open affair that you must spread around if playing the Pick 4 or 5. Several of these horses are well-meant for this one, and it is probably one of the most competitive. Keying reliable horse such as Sassy Little Lila and On Leave is the smart play here, then let the other chips fall as they may.
