Bringing an international edge to the Sa Sa Ladies Purse Day Dr. Simon Kwok, BBS, JP, Dr. Eleanor Kwok, BBS, along with renowned actress and current Sa Sa image girl, Ms. Cecilia Liu, presented commemorative trophies to the owner, trainer and jockey of the winning horse after the Sa Sa Ladies Purse race for their outstanding performances. After distributing trophies, Dr. Simon Kwok, BBS, JP, Dr. Eleanor Kwok, BBS, and Mr. Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, JP, and the winner of the Sa Sa Ladies Purse race went on stage to toast to the success of this year s event. Around the racecourse, guests were all dressed up in charming outfits to complement the theme of this year s Sa Sa Ladies Purse Day : Be Beautiful. Be a Part of it. The guests attire was not only a way to celebrate the perfect partnership between Sa Sa and Hong Kong Jockey Club, which makes the Sa Sa Ladies Purse Day a renowned annual event each year, but also allowed them to compete for a Best Dressed Award and a Best Hatwear Award, bringing some international acclaim to the Sa Sa Ladies Purse Day. 2 Exciting internationally branded races and a Dazzling Horse Brooch souvenir Apart from the highlighted Sa Sa Ladies' Purse race, other races have been named after popular international Sa Sa brands, including the Suisse Programme Handicap, Cyber Colours Handicap, Elizabeth Arden Handicap, L Oreal Paris Handicap, REVLON Handicap, Hadatuko Handicap, Dr. G Handicap, KATE Handicap, and AQUAMOIST Handicap. Additionally, to fully enjoy the 14 October event, race goers received a collectable Sa Sa Ladies Purse Day Brooch upon entering the Sha Tin Racecourse, especially designed for the annual Sa Sa Ladies' Purse Day. To bring international attention to the Sa Sa Ladies Purse Day, the Group specially invited Ms. Cecilia Liu, a famous star from mainland China, to be Sa Sa s current image girl and to present the Best Hatwear Award to winners. This marks the first time Sa Sa has selected an image girl outside of Hong Kong. Sa Sa also arranged numerous activities at the Shatin Racecourse, including a fashion show with the theme Be Beautiful. Be a Part of it and an Alluring Lady make-up workshop. Race goers donned their most amiable outfits and favourite head and hair accessories at event, a part of a longstanding tradition at the event. Upon entering the Shatin Racecourse, attendees also received a collectable Sa Sa Ladies Purse Day Brooch designed especially for the annual Sa Sa Ladies' Purse Day. This year s elegantly designed brooch was made of silver alloy and chicly embellished with an imitation cat s eye stone. About Sa Sa Ladies Purse Day First begun in 1846, the Ladies Purse is one of Hong Kong s oldest races. A tradition established for over a century, ladies would attend the event dressed in their finest outfits, while the owner, trainer and jockey of the winning horse would be awarded gold sovereigns by a renowned lady. Nowadays, the winner is presented with a gold coin inside a purse as a memento in honour of this venerable tradition.
