Waller weekly news 03 june 2016 Mackintosh. The stable celebrated five winners over the past week with Mackintosh winning again, this time at Group Three level in the Grand Prix at Doomben. He now heads to the Queensland Derby next week with stable-mates Encosta Line and Rodrico also set to join him in the $500,000 feature next Saturday. Our four other winners this week were in Sydney and ensured we are still on track to break our own record for the most metropolitan winners in one season. Having broken the Sydney metro record set by Tommy Smith and also equalled by his fellow Hall of Fame inductee and daughter Gai Waterhouse in the season with 167.5, remarkably we just need another 23 winners before the end of July to get there. Adding even more weight to the feat, there are 10 less Sydney metro meetings held this season than there was in Sebring Sally and Mount Omei are our leading lights in the Group One Queensland Oaks tomorrow at Eagle Farm after Winx won it last year before going on to win another five Group One races! Rosehill, Sandown, Kembla Grange will host the rest of our runners and we wish all of our connections the best of luck this weekend! INSIDE THIS ISSUE WINNERs News, getting to know tayla nawisielski & photos
l CHRIS WALLER RACING - WINNERS THIS WEEK mackintosh 3yo G Pins - Lolly Scramble by Generous New Zealand bred stayer Mackintosh confirmed himself as a genuine candidate for next weeks Queensland Derby when taking out the Group Three Grand Prix Stakes at Doomben on Saturday over 2200m. Blake Shinn retained the mount having been on board for his previous win in the Rough Habit Plate two weeks earlier. As had been the case in that race nobody was keen to set the pace and Shinn found himself in front on the son of Pins. He controlled the tempo and kicked away at the top of the straight and although the pack closed late on, he had enough in reserve to hold on at the finish. Chris has confirmed that he will now press on to the Derby and take his chance at the 2400m distance. rodrico 3yo G High Chaparral - Truly A Beauty by Seeking the Gold Rodrico is another New Zealand bred to book his place in the Queensland Derby field when winning at Randwick on Saturday over 2000m. The son of High Chaparral was ridden by Glyn Schofield who saved ground towards the inside of the track in the straight and Rodrico hit the front close to home for a gutsy victory. This was a third career success from just the eight starts for this promising type who should relish the stamina test in the Derby next weekend. elle lou 4yo M Snitzel - Snipify by Snippets This daughter of Snitzel seemed to relish the soft track conditions when returning from a spell to win at Randwick on Saturday over 1200m. Glyn Schofield was aboard and she was always traveling well in fifth position before coming with a winning run towards the middle of the track. In the end it was a soft win and she will no doubt gain plenty of confidence from this winning return. Thanks to Bradley Photographers, Ross stevenson and darryl sherer for our weekly photos.
zourkhan 4yo H Shamardal - Zarkasha by Kahyasi This lightly raced import was a winner at just his third Australian start at Warwick Farm on Wednesday over 2200m. Relishing the step up in distance this son of Shamardal was settled in mid division early on by Rory Hutchings. He picked his way through the field as they approached the straight and was in a position to challenge entering the final furlong. Once asked to win the race, Zourkhan responded gamely to hold off the opposition and score his second career victory having won in his native France as a three year old. sanaya 3yo F More Than Ready - Astrodame by Flying Spur Owned by Vinery Stud this daughter of More Than Ready recorded a valuable maiden victory at Kembla Grange on Saturday over 1500m. Having been placed previously in town, she was sent off a short priced favourite under Chad Lever and she made no mistake in scoring easily having travelled well throughout. A return to midweek action will now be on the agenda for this consistent type and hopefully she can build on this confidence boosting success. like winx - official on facebook In addition to gracing front pages of magazines Winx now has her very own official Facebook page. We will be adding to the page over the coming week so head on over and give Winx a Like by clicking on this link: LIKE WINX S OFFICIAL PAGE ON FACEBOOK
moriarty retired This week the call was made to call time on the racing career of a gallant and much loved member of the stable. Moriarty was selected by Guy Mulcaster and Tim Roberts at the 2011 Tattersalls Horses in Training Sale and has been a grand campaigner for the stable and his loyal bunch of owners. His career saw the hardy son of Clodovil (a son of Danehill) race on 66 occasions with him victorious on 13 of these while he placed 14 times. He retires as his sire s leading light on the track with the Group One Kingston Town Classic the highlight and that backed up by three Group Two wins and four other stakes successes contributing to his $1,762,740 prize-money haul. Renowned racehorse re-educator Claire Oxley, who has successfully worked with many former CWR gallopers including our first Group One winner in Triple Honour is now looking forward to working with Moriarty and we will eagerly follow his progress over the coming months.
Mount Omei to run in Queensland Oaks Mount Omei is a definite starter in the Queensland Oaks, joining stablemate Sebring Sally as Chris Waller attempts back-to-back wins in the race. Waller won the Classic last year with Winx who went on to win five more Group One races this season. The Oaks meeting at Eagle Farm on Saturday is the first since the track was closed for a rebuild in August Waller said Encosta Line, a leading contender for the Queensland Derby on Saturday week, would not run this weekend. Encosta Line had been entered for races at Rosehill and Eagle Farm after an irregular blood count forced his withdrawal from the Grand Prix Stakes won by stablemate Mackintosh. "Encosta Line will not run this weekend as I am satisfied he is fit enough to go straight to the Queensland Derby," Waller said in a statement. "He has not missed any work which included a solid gallop at Rosehill on Monday morning and is scheduled to gallop again on Friday morning. "We have also made the decision that Mackintosh will definitely run in the Queensland Derby. "We are very happy with the way that he has come through his winning run in the Grand Prix over the 2200m-distance and having seen him come through the race and having a good look at his profile, we have no doubt that he will run the 2400m. "Hugh Bowman will ride Encosta Line in the Queensland Derby, Blake Shinn will ride Mackintosh, Joao Moreira will ride Rodrico and our other Derby runner is likely to be Multifacets. Waller said he had not yet booked a jockey for Multifacets but confirmed Joao Moreira would ride Counterattack in the Stradbroke Handicap and James McDonald would stick with Delectation. - AAP TURF
Sally thriving ahead of Oaks She hasn t gone backwards and she is thriving. That was the immediate comment from Sydney trainer Chris Waller after he watched Sebring Sally go through her paces on the Gold Coast course proper on Tuesday. Bookies have shafted Sebring Sally in the Queensland Oaks (2400m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday despite the fact she put in arguably the best performance in the Doomben Roses (2000m) last month. Sebring Sally was trapped three wide without cover throughout but still made a longsustained run to grab second behind Kebede. Despite the brave performance, Sebring Sally is rated only a $17 chance in the Oaks with UBET but Waller couldn t be happier with her. She hasn t gone backwards and she is thriving, Waller said. She didn t try to break the record for the fastest horse (on Tuesday morning) but it was nice staying work. The Doomben Roses just showed she is appreciating the extra distance and she did a good job because she was three wide the whole way. Anything short of a mile she struggles at and she looks like a stayer and she is definitely in the race with a chance. Waller admits it s a different feeling in the lead-up to the Oaks this year. Last year the Waller-trained Winx was a dominant favourite but 12 months later he is flying under the radar with Sebring Sally. Obviously Winx was a bit different and she had Group 1 form coming into the race last year but Sebring Sally s run was as good as you get really in the Doomben Roses, Waller said. She has come through Tasmania and we haven t won a Queensland Oaks with that form line before but anything is possible and she is hitting form at the right time of the year. Sebring Sally won the Listed Strutt Stakes (2100m) for three-year-olds in Hobart before finishing 10th in the Tasmanian Oaks (2100m) on February Gold Coast Bulletin
