2 The Birds Hill Summer Sensation 40/80/120 km Endurance Event is sanctioned as a Bronze and Gold competition with Equine Canada (EC), and is governed by the rules of EC and FEI. This event offered herein is covered by the rules and specifications of the current rules of EC and will be held and judged in accordance with the EC Rule Book, Section J Endurance for the EC Bronze Division and the FEI Division will follow FEI rules. STATEMENT OF PRINCIPLES Equine Canada (EC), the national equestrian federation of Canada, supports adherence to humane treatment of horses in all activities under its jurisdiction. EC is committed to: Upholding the welfare of the horses, regardless of value, as a primary consideration in all activities; Requiring that horses be treated with kindness, respect and the compassion that they deserve, and that they never be subjected to mistreatment; Ensuring that owners, trainers and exhibitors or their agents use responsible care in the handling, treatment and transportation of their horses as well as horses placed in their care for any purpose; Providing for the continuous well-being of horses by encouraging routine inspection and consultation with health care professionals and competition officials to achieve the highest possible standards of nutrition, health, comfort and safety as a matter of standard operating procedure; Continuing to support scientific studies on equine health and welfare; Requiring owners, trainers and exhibitors to know and follow their sanctioning organization s rules, and to work within industry regulations in all equestrian competition; Reviewing, revising and developing competition rules and regulations that protect the welfare of the horses. The standard by which conduct or treatment will be measured is that which a person, informed and experienced in generally accepted equine training and exhibition procedures, would determine to be neither cruel, abusive nor inhumane. Rules & Guidelines: Competition numbers must be visible at all times in the vetting gate area and on trial. The mileage events will follow the Equine Canada rules pertaining to Mileage events with a minimum and maximum time set by the Event Organizer. Equine Canada rules will be followed for the 40/80/120 km Bronze Endurance events with 30 minute completion exam. The OC will send mileage information to AERC for AERC members. Please see for rules pertaining to the FEI 1*/2* Silver/Gold Senior & Junior divisions. A completion prize will be awarded to all competitors who meet the criteria Fit to Continue and the pulse parameters set by the head control judge for all events. Rosettes 1 st through 5 th will be awarded to the Top 5 finishers in the 40, 80, and120 km Endurance Events and one horse may be awarded the Best Condition prize in each event. The High Vet Score horses will also be recognized. Helmets must be worn at all times while mounted at the event. FEI/CEI competitor and all Juniors must wear footwear with a heel or have caged or safety stirrups. FEI/CEI competitors must also wear an appropriate collared shirt. Parking is in the Hunter Ring and along the berm at the ride management s direction. Please check in before parking to be assigned a space. All dogs must be kept on a leash or tied.

3 Horses must be safely contained in panel corrals, electric fenced areas, tied to trailers or using a high tie device. Horse areas should not be of an excessive size nor over crowded. Paddocks should not be bigger than the equivalent of than 15 x 15 per horse. No tie line areas are available. Box stall are available for rent. FEI/CEI entrants must have a flu vaccination within 6 months of the competition date and meet FEI protocol. (Exception for 1* and 2* horses residing in Canada) Competitors must have liability insurance of at least $1 million and provide copies of their membership cards and insurance on registration, if not sent with their entry. Refund Policy: No show No refund. If notification of withdrawal from the ride is made within the 10 day period prior to the ride date, for medical/veterinary reasons, or if the horse fails to pass the preliminary veterinary check, then all monies paid will be refunded (upon submission of a medical/veterinary certificate) in full. After that date a $40.00 administration fee will be deducted. Meals: A Potluck supper will be held Saturday night. 6 Waivers I hereby consent to the entry of my child in this horse show and acknowledge that I have read the front side and the reverse side of this entry form and agree to the applicable terms, conditions, waivers, and consent as set forth herein and accept responsibility hereunder for the participation of said Minor (Junior Rider). In the event that participates in an Equine Canada sanctioned competition where protective headgear is required for juniors, he/she will wear properly fitted and fastened approved headgear at all times while riding or driving at the event location. It is understood that juniors not meeting this requirement will not be allowed to compete at these competitions. I hereby certify that every horse, rider and/or driver is eligible as entered and agree for myself and my representatives to be bound by the Constitution and rules of Equine Canada at this competition. The person responsible (PR) agrees to the release of any information on the entry form to EC Signature of Person Responsible Date: Name of the Person Responsible (Print name) Date: EC #: Section A, General Regulations-Glossary: Person Responsible The Person Responsible for a horse must be an adult who has, or shares, responsibility for the care, training, custody, and performance of the horse and who has official responsibility for that horse under EC Rules and is liable under the penalty provisions of the Rules for any violation of the EC Rules. For the purpose of these Rules, the Person Responsible is normally the trainer, owner or the competitor who rides or drives the horse during an event, or a parent or legal guardian in the case of junior competitors. The Person Responsible is ultimately responsible for the condition, fitness and management of the horse and is alone responsible for any act performed in the stables by himself or herself or by any other person with authorized access to the horse, or while the horse is being ridden, driven or exercised. The Person Responsible must hold a valid EC Sport License in good standing at the same level or higher in which the horse is competing. However, when the competitor is a Junior, the competitor cannot be the Person Responsible and the Person Responsible may be a parent/guardian who must be at minimum an EC or USEF member in good standing.
