1 1 STEWARDS REPORT Australian Turf Club ROYAL RANDWICK RACECOURSE Wednesday 15 February 2017 Weather: Fine Track: Soft (7) Rail: +12m 1600m to WP; +10m remainder Penetrometer: 5.89 STEWARDS: R W Livingstone (Chairman), P C Dingwall, T P Moxon, T A McDonald and cadets J J E Earl, C K McIntosh and I H Grimes (jl) Supplementary Reports: ROYAL RANDWICK Monday 13 February 2017 Race 5: The Chi-X Southern Cross Stakes (Group 3) 1200m Impending trainer Mr J O'Shea advised that he was satisfied with the post-race condition of the colt and indicated the intention was to add blinkers and try to have run to the outside of horses in future. Race 7: TAB Light Fingers Stakes (Group 2) 1200m Honesty Prevails - trainer Mr R Worthington reported that the filly had pulled a hind plate and had also sustained an injury to its hock during a minor floating incident whilst returning from Monday's meeting. He advised this has resulted in a detailed assessment of the filly being delayed. Mr Worthington advised an endoscopic examination and x-rays performed on the Honesty Prevails had not revealed any abnormality, however it was now his intention to perform a dynamic scope on the filly as well as completing scintigraphy, the results of which he shall report to the Stewards. The inquiry was further adjourned pending the receipt of the additional tests to be performed on the filly. LATE RIDING CHANGES: As J Doyle was indisposed, due to a fall at Randwick on Monday, 13 February 2017, Stewards permitted the following riding substitutions: Race 1 Race 2 Race 5 Race 6 C Reith on Alizee. C Brown on Malahat. K McEvoy on Gloriette. B Avdulla on Honeywine. RACE 1: ATC Staff Recognition Day Handicap 1000m The start of this race was delayed as the ambulance had not arrived on course. Supreme Glamour the filly was a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 11.12am after it injured itself whilst being transported to the course.

2 2 Pahruli the filly underwent a veterinary examination on arrival on course after dislodging its upper incisor tooth. Pahruli was passed to run by the Club's Veterinary Officer. As T Angland was delayed due to traffic difficulties, permission was granted for J Parr to be substituted as the rider of the filly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Wind On The Tide crowded on jumping between Soviet and Ten Carat. Hung out in the straight, obliging rider K McEvoy to change the whip from the right to the left hand near the 200m. Alizee slow to begin. Rider C Reith advised he was under no specific instructions, however the filly was restless in the barrier and, after being slow to begin he did not ride his mount along as he had some concerns it may overrace. He added shortly after the start he was able to find a trailing position behind Ten Carat, which he thought had a good chance in the race. He said in the early part of the straight when Broadlea commenced to come under pressure rounding the home turn shortly after straightening, he endeavoured to shift into that position and manoeuvre that runner wider, however when Ten Carat did not improve as he had expected and Broadlea held its ground, he then made contact with Broadlea on a number of occasions, was disappointed for that run and ultimately had to shift back to the inside near the 200m to secure clear running. Villa Carlotta raced keenly in the early stages. Broadlea raced wide without cover throughout the race. Bumped on a number of occasions on the hindquarter and became unbalanced from the 350m to the 250m when Alizee (C Reith) attempted to shift into a position to its inside where there was not sufficient room. The incident was exacerbated when Ten Carat shifted out slightly near the 250m. In the circumstances C Reith was reprimanded. Soviet rider T Clark advised that after the colt began fairly it was able to muster good speed and consequently led. He added his mount was immediately under pressure on straightening and was most disappointing in the way it failed to finish the race off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt to be displaying a poor post-race recovery. Co-trainer Mr A Bott stated Soviet had pleased the stable leading into today's race and apart from a poor post-race recovery he could not offer any tangible reason for the colt's poor performance. Mr Bott undertook to furnish a veterinary clearance, including the results of an endoscopic examination. Stewards deemed the performance to be unacceptable and before Soviet is permitted to race again it must trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards. Ten Carat when questioned regarding the performance, H Bowman advised that the colt travelled well, however when asked for an effort he was at a loss to explain the reason why Ten Carat failed to finish the race off. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. RACE 2: Chris Toogood Handicap 1200m Milanese Girl slow to begin. Laid out under pressure in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in the off-foreleg. Stable representative Mr C Duckworth was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Milanese Girl being permitted to race again. Ace High began only fairly. Laid out under pressure in the straight.

3 3 Sebring Express began only fairly. For some distance in the early stages raced tight and buffeted for room between Invader and Molten. Molten began only fairly. Approaching the 900m had to be eased when by Malahat (C Brown), which shifted in when not clear. C Brown was reprimanded under AR137(a). A postrace veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities other than the colt lost its nearfore plate in running. Co-trainer Mr Paul Snowden advised Molten will now be spelled. Can Party began only fairly. Trapeze Artist raced wide without cover throughout the race. Over the concluding stages was carried wider by Malahat, which shifted out under pressure. Invader over the concluding stages was inclined to lay in. Savatiano over the concluding stages was inclined to lay in. RACE 3: Glen Miller Handicap 1200m Mull Over the filly, which was leaning on the near-side of its barrier, was slow to begin. Near the 900m Perfect Rhyme shifted in away from Screamarr and in so doing Mull Over was briefly crowded for room and steadied. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Blanco Cara slow to begin. Bye See began only fairly. Pirapala shortly after the start was crowded between Screamarr and Dream Master, which shifted out. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in the nearforeleg. Trainer Mr G Ryan was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Pirapala being permitted to race again. Screamarr shortly after the start was bumped and became unbalanced. Waking Moment raced fiercely throughout the early stages and refused to settle. Perfect Rhyme raced keenly in the middle stages. Dream Master hung out from the 600m and made the home turn awkwardly. RACE 4: John McGarr Handicap 1100m Ma Tante which was slow to begin, was hampered shortly after the start by Snowbrook, which shifted in abruptly. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the straight. Vienna Romance in the early and middle stages raced keenly when being restrained by its rider in an endeavour to obtain cover. Cocoexcel rider H Bowman advised he was at a loss to explain the performance of the filly, which weakened noticeably in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be displaying respiratory distress and making an abnormal respiratory noise. Trainer

4 4 Mr C Waller was advised that a veterinary clearance, including the results of an endoscopic examination, would be required prior to Cocoexcel trialling to the satisfaction of the Stewards before racing again. RACE 5: Wayne Toogood Handicap 1100m Alakai began awkwardly. Hilary Step laid in in the straight. Diddums when questioned regarding his riding of the filly in the early stages, App. J Innes Jr advised his instructions had been to lead to or to sit outside the leader. He said, after Diddums began fairly from its wide barrier, he rode his mount along, however as the filly was resuming from a spell and as he was of the view he was only a head in front of Alaskan Wolf and there were a number of runners improving to his inside, he desisted from riding his mount along and attempted to find a position with cover. App. Innes added Diddums then raced wide on the track with no cover for the remainder of the race and further back than he had initially anticipated. Trainer Mr G Ryan confirmed the nature of the instructions and expressed some disappointment with the ride in that he failed to make more use of his mount in the early stages to cross and also App. Innes was too premature in making the decision not to press forward. Stewards advised App. Innes that in their view he had gained more clearance than a head of runners on the inside and he should have made more endeavour to continue forward and cross runners to his inside, which would have avoided Diddums covering additional ground. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Latin Salsa a post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be displaying a poor post-race recovery. RACE 6: Mick Stanley Handicap 1600m Invincible Knight slow to begin. Honeywine began only fairly. abnormalities. He added that approaching the first turn, when an option became available for him to move one off the fence, he took that and moved Obsidian wider and was able to obtain a trail for a short distance behind Honeywine. M Bell said when Honeywine moved to the fence, Imanui, which was racing keenly, improved into the race, however when Honeywine moved its position one off the rail, he was obliged to race wide from the 100m. Chestnut Road when questioned regarding the gelding leading today, rider C Brown explained his instructions had been to lead if possible. He said, after his mount began only fairly, he rode it along in accordance with his instructions and pushed on to lead approaching the first turn. He added, after obtaining the lead near the 1000m, he steadied the tempo and from this point was able to obtain comfortable sectionals in front despite the genuine he set between the 1400m and the 1200m. Trainer Mr D Pfieffer confirmed the instructions issued to

5 5 C Brown and was reminded of his obligation to notify the Stewards of any change in riding tactics. Disgraceful a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. RACE 7: Greg Carmody Handicap 2000m Divine Sanction approaching the 100m had to be steadied away from the heels of Token Of Love (App. R Hunt) when that runner shifted out when not clear. App. Hunt was advised to exercise more care. My Milly Moo rider C Brown reported the mare was making an abnormal breathing noise throughout the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be displaying respiratory distress. Trainer Mr J Attard explained that My Milly Moo has in the past displayed a respiratory noise during its trackwork, however this was not a significant issue and had been managed by the stable. He undertook to have the mare subjected to a veterinary examination, including an endoscopic examination, and to provide the Stewards with the outcome of that examination, which will be required prior to My Milly Moo barrier trialling to the satisfaction. Nissile when questioned regarding the tactics adopted, R Yetimova explained, after his mount was slow to begin, he settled at the rear of the field. He said in the early stages Nissile commenced to race quite keenly and he endeavoured to settle his mount behind Miss Milly Moo, however despite his efforts Nissile continued to race keenly and for this reason he elected to allow Nissile to improve forward in the hope of racing outside the early leader Dylan's Romance from the 1600m, during which time his mount had to make up a number of lengths in order to progress forward. R Yetimova further added that when Token Of Love improved to his inside this made it more difficult for Nissile to cross and consequently he was obliged to make more use of his mount than he would have liked before crossing to the lead after the 800m. R Yetimova agreed with the view of the Stewards that he should have made more of a concerted effort in the early stages to restrain and his decision to go forward leaving the 600m lacked judgement and initiative. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Token Of Love when questioned, App. R Hunt explained that after the 1200m she became aware that Nissile was improving to her outside and, as she was of the view that horse would have to do additional work in order to cross her, she elected to pressure her mount slightly, which would obliged Nissile to maintain its position directly to her outside. She added, whilst she was aware that the tempo was genuine at this time, she felt in the circumstances it would be preferable not to allow Nissile to cross her and for this reason her mount went quicker than she would have liked during the relevant period. R Hunt acknowledged that in retrospect she should have steadied after the 1200m and allowed Nissile to take up a position in front of her. RACE 8: Gary Montgomery Handicap 1000m I'm Usain began awkwardly. Golden Organic for a short distance after the start raced was in restricted room between Capitano and Glenall, which shifted in slightly. Near the 150m Legerity and Golden Organic were briefly crowded for room between Leami Astray and Roguish, which shifted out. Roguish near the 500m shifted in and made contact with Glenall.

6 6 Realise Potential rider H Bowman, rider of 2 nd placed dead-heater, was found guilty of a charge under AR137(b) in that he failed to ride his mount out over the concluding stages of the event. H Bowman's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Monday, 20 February 2017 and to expire on Saturday, 25 February 2017, on which day he may ride. In addition H Bowman was also fined the sum of $1,000. In assessing penalty, Stewards took into consideration that Realise Potential had dead-heated for 2 nd and the effect on wagering was not as significant had he lost that placing outright. Legerity a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. GENERAL: Swab samples were taken from all winners and the following runners: Race 1: Faeger, Soviet (2), Alizee. Race 2: Can Party, Molten, Savatiano. Race 3: Dream Master, I Thought So (2), Bye See (2). Race 4: Ma Tante (2), Cocoexcel. Race 5: Purrari. Race 6: Invincible Knight, He's Dreamin', Imanui, Zaunkonig. Race 7: Divine Sanction, Fashion Sniptz, Token Of Love, My Milly Moo, Nissile, Storm System. Race 8: Capitano, Glenall, Roguish, Realise Potential.
