1 1 STEWARDS REPORT Australian Turf Club ROYAL RANDWICK RACECOURSE Saturday 18 April 2015 Weather: Fine/overcast Track: Soft (6) Rail: +8m 1600m to WP; +5m remainder Penetrometer: 5.61 STEWARDS: M F Van Gestel (Chairman), R P Murrihy, G T Rudolph, D M Carr and cadets J T Penfold and J A Shultz (jl) Supplementary Reports: WARWICK FARM Wednesday 15 April 2015 Race 3: Pro-Ride Handicap 1600m Commission co-trainer Mr J Cummings reported that the gelding had pulled up well and a blood profile was within normal parameters. Mr Cummings will freshen Commission up and aim to start the gelding in a fortnight. Race 4: TAB.Com.Au Handicap 1600m Spinning Diamond trainer Mr S Kavanagh reported that the mare will be freshened up after showing the effects of a hard run. Bubbles N Boats App. S Lisnyy was spoken to about using the whip in a manner which raises his arm above shoulder height. Race 5: Schweppes Handicap 1400m Braidley trainer Mr S Kavanagh reported the gelding pulled up well, however, he will trial Braidley and possibly add blinkers. RACE 1: Egroup Security Sprint 1200m Dublin Lass the start was delayed five minutes when the mare stepped on its near fore plate as it was placed into the barrier. All runners were removed from the barrier stalls and reloaded once the mare had been replated. Dublin Lass was examined by the Club's Veterinary Officer and passed fit to start. Bachman jumped awkwardly. Over the concluding stages was steadied to avoid the heels of Boss Lane (App. K Jennings), which shifted out. App. Jennings was advised to stop riding and straighten his mounts when they shift ground. Grande Punto slow to begin. Rider T Clark stated that, in his view, the gelding is now looking for additional ground. He added also that the gelding is better suited when being able to follow the rail and, particularly when placed under pressure in the straight, his mount was inclined to race greenly and lay out. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding

2 2 had aggravated an existing wound to the near-hind bumper. Trainer's representative Ms A Large concurred with the views of T Clark and undertook to report back if anything is amiss with the gelding subsequent to the race. La Pieta raced greenly in the early stages. Aussies Love Sport for some distance near the 350m was held up on the heels of Boss Lane. Mamwaazel had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the straight. Private Secretary rider C Reith stated that he was obliged to settle a little further back than he had intended after being crossed by Grande Punto. He added he was able to shift to that runner's outside at the top of the straight, however, the mare was somewhat disappointing in its failure to finish the race off. He further stated the only explanation he could offer for the performance was that Private Secretary's runs have been spaced in the past and it may not have appreciated a ten day backup. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr G Hickman undertook to report back on the progress of the mare subsequent to the race. He stated that Private Secretary was not advantaged by having to make up ground back in the field in what he deemed to be an inferior part of the track earlier in the day and in a race where the tempo was not run to suit. RACE 2: Johnnie Walker Frank Packer Plate (Group 3) 2000m Gouldian slow to begin. Stratalena overraced in the middle stages. Another Al dipped near the 1000m. Blademeister leaving the 800m had to be checked after improving into a narrow run between Stratalena, which shifted out slightly, and Another Al (B Shinn) which, after shifting out making the turn near the 800m, shifted back in slightly. B Shinn was advised to exercise more care. Merion rider S Arnold stated that he had been instructed to take up a position with cover and had anticipated racing behind the leaders. He said, after jumping fairly and when Another Al held its position to his inside in the early stages, he elected to come back and follow that runner and, as a consequence, raced further back than he had intended. He added that, whilst he had the option of going forward and crossing Another Al in the early stages, he was mindful that the gelding had overraced at its last start at Rosehill on 28 March High Midnight rider T Clark stated it was his intention to settle in a position with cover, but after being caught wide in the early stages when Another Al shifted off to hold a position one off the fence, he was obliged to work forward and take up a position outside the leader, Hi World. RACE 3: Kari J H B Carr Stakes (Group 3) 1400m Nancy acting on veterinary advice, the filly was a late withdrawal at 9.08am when it was found to be slightly lame in the near foreleg after being shod. Co-trainer Mr P Snowden was asked to provide a veterinary clearance prior to the filly racing again.

3 3 Sebrina slow to begin and shortly after the start was steadied when crowded between Matilija and Swift Lady. Slight Sweet inclined to overrace in the early stages and near the 800m was steadied from the heels of Press Report. Pittsburgh Flyer making the home turn was taken wider when Peeping shifted to improve around the heels of Supara. Swift Lady held up for clear running until near the 200m. Press Report had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the straight. Supara rider K McEvoy stated the filly was caught wide throughout the event and, consequently, gave ground when placed under pressure. He added, in his view, Supara had come to the end of its preparation. Stable representative Mr M Newnham advised the filly would now be spelled. Matilija rider J McDonald stated he was obliged to make some use of the filly in the early stages to cross and, consequently, raced more forward than he had anticipated. He added, in his view, the filly did not appreciate travelling the Sydney way of going and was on the wrong leg throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be displaying a poor post-race recovery and had lost its near fore plate in running. Trainer Mr L Freedman stated the only explanation he could offer for the performance was being ridden further forward today had not suited the filly. He added Matilija will now be spelled. RACE 4: Moet & Chandon Champagne Stakes (Group 1) 1600m Odyssey Moon knuckled over on jumping away. Mine Two on straightening bumped by Tarquin and became unbalanced when Tarquin shifted out to improve to the outside of Street Rapper. Takedown rider K McEvoy stated that, although he had to make some use of his mount to cross in the early stages with some strong tempo, his mount disappointed over the concluding stages and, in his view, had come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be mildly lame near foreleg. Trainer Mr G Moore indicated Takedown would now be spelled. Pasadena Girl rider H Bowman was fined the sum of $200 under AR137(c) for making a celebratory gesture prior to the winning post. RACE 5: Japan Racing Association Plate (Group 3) 2000m Gypsy Diamond slow to begin (2L). Malavio overraced throughout the early and middle stages. Rider T Angland stated that his mount pulled hard early and was not comfortable on the rain affected going. He added, in his view, the gelding does not run out a strong 2000m journey. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying a poor post-race recovery and was mildly

4 4 lame in the near foreleg. Trainer Mr S Engelbrecht was advised a veterinary clearance would be required before Malavio is permitted to race again. Malice for some distance from the 600m raced tight between Our Voodoo Prince and Index Linked. On several occasions shortly after straightening made contact with Slow Pace, as it endeavoured to obtain running to the outside of Our Voodoo Prince. Malice was then shifted back to the inside of that runner to find clear running. Our Voodoo Prince near the 50m was steadied to avoid the heels of Index Linked, which shifted out slightly. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. RACE 6: Schweppes All Aged Stakes (Group 1) 1400m Generalife on return to scale an objection was lodged by Deputy Chairman of Stewards, Mr G Rudolph, on behalf of the connections of Generalife, placed 6 th, against Lucky Hussler, dead heated 4 th placegetter, alleging interference inside the 100m. After considering the evidence and viewing the official patrol films, the Stewards found that near the 75m Lucky Hussler shifted out and contacted Generalife on the shoulder, resulting in it becoming unbalanced and being taken wider. Bearing in mind the margin of half a head at the finish and the manner in which Generalife finished the race off the Stewards upheld the objection and amended the placings: 1 st Dissident 2 nd Wandjina 3 rd Chautauqua 4 th Scissor Kick 5 th Generalife 6 th Lucky Hussler Crowded on jumping by Weary, which shifted in. Scissor Kick crowded on jumping. Shooting To Win crowded at the start when Terravista shifted out. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt to be displaying a poor post-race recovery. Rider T Clark and co-trainer Mr Paul Snowden advised the only excuse that they could offer was that Shooting To Win did not handle the track conditions. Mr Snowden indicated the colt would now be spelled. Fontelina near the 900m was steadied away from the heels of Chautauqua. Lucky Hussler for some distance approaching the 600m made contact with Chautauqua when that runner shifted to the outside of Terravista, resulting in Lucky Hussler becoming unbalanced. Terravista dipped at the entrance to the straight. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, H Bowman stated that, although forced wide in the middle stages his mount travelled comfortably and he was satisfied with the position he had obtained in the early and middle stages of the event. He added from the 600m his mount became under pressure and, when he was concerned something was amiss with it over the final 100m, he eased his mount down, whereby it gave ground quickly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying a poor post-race recovery. Trainer Mr J Pride indicated that Terravista had pleased the stable since its 3 rd placing in the T J Smith Stakes on 6 April

5 and could offer no explanation for its disappointing performance. Mr Pride advised that the gelding would now be spelled. Chautauqua dipped at the entrance to the straight. Rider T Berry stated when the pace steadied in the middle stages his mount began to overrace and near the 900m was checked to avoid the heels of Scissor Kick. A short distance later Chautauqua struck the heels of Scissor Kick when it ran out across the heels of that runner and blundered badly, resulting in Terravista being taken wider. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to have abrasions to the off-side foreleg. The racing manners of Chautauqua were brought to the attention of co-trainer Mr M Hawkes. RACE 7: Ticketek Hall Mark Stakes (Group 3) 1200m Craftiness which sustained a wound to the near-side hip in the tie-up stall, was examined by the Club's Veterinary Officer and passed fit to start. Hidden Warrior jumped awkwardly. Our Boy Malachi slow to begin. On straightening blundered in the going. Decision Time slow to begin. Vashka- on straightening blundered in the going. Big Money rider R Thompson stated that he settled a little further back in the early stages due to being caught wide and, after initially responding to his riding in the early part of the straight, is condition gave out over the final 200m. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr R Northam agreed with the views of R Thompson and indicated that, with only one trial leading up to today's race and being first up over 1200m, its condition had given out. Mr Northam undertook to report back on the progress of Big Money subsequent to the race. RACE 8: TAB Rewards Royal Randwick m San Diego slow to begin. Overraced in the early stages and for some distance near the 1100m was checked from the heels of Monton. Tales Of Grimm slow to begin (2L). Over the final 100m could not be fully tested when awkwardly placed close to the heels of Ecuador. Vilanova overraced in the early stages. Near the 1000m shifted away from the heels of Medcaut, resulting in Lucky Lago being hampered when carried wider. GENERAL: The Stewards accepted the documentation tendered by App. S Lisnyy with respect to his nonattendance at Apprentice School on Monday, 13 April Swab samples were taken from all winners and the following runners: Race 1: Mamwaazel, Dublin Lass (2), Mohave, Private Secretary. Race 2: Gouldian, Merion, High Midnight, Wine Tales (2), Stratalena. Race 3: Nayeli (2), Anyaas, Sebrina, Matilija.

6 6 Race 4: The Barrister, Odyssey Moon, Takedown, Street Rapper (2), Rhode Assassin, Pasadena Girl (2), Tarquin. Race 5: Slow Pace, Singing Flame (2), Index Linked, Leebaz, Count Of Limonade. Race 6: Chautauqua (2), Dissident (2), Terravista, Lucky Hussler, Shooting To Win, Scissor Kick, Craftiness, Wandjina. Race 7: Charlie Boy, Heart Testa, Our Boy Malachi (2), Hidden Warrior.
