2 International Training with Bram Chardon For driving trial enthusiasts, Bram Chardon needs little introduction. He is a very talented driver, having won the FEI World Championships with a pony team three times (2011, 2013 and 2015). He is now competing successfully with his horse team and has qualified for the FEI World Cup championship in Bordeaux France in February. He is currently ranked 5th in the FEI World Cup Driving Standings. His father, Ijsbrand Chardon, has won more than 10 world championship titles in carriage driving and recently won the FEI World Cup driving at Olympia in December. Following his successful training clinics in Australia and the United States, we welcome Bram Chardon to the UK for the first time. Bram will be conducting driving lessons on Friday and Saturday, offering a unique training opportunity for up to 9 recreational or sports drivers on each day. Each lesson is with your own turnout and lasts approximately 45 minutes. This opportunity is open to drivers of any age or ability. There is an option for drivers of very small ponies to have a shared lesson, providing both drivers are of a similar level of competence and ability. Friday: Driving lessons start at 9.00 a.m. and finish approximately 5.00 p.m. Everyone attending the clinic is welcome to watch the lessons throughout the day. On completion of the lessons, there will be a Q&A session and social gathering with Bram Chardon for those on the clinic. Light refreshments available. A hot buffet style meal is available (at extra cost) for those camping over night. Saturday: Driving lessons start at 8.00 a.m. and finish approximately 4.00 pm. Everyone attending the clinic is welcome to watch the lessons throughout the day. Fees: Individual driving lessons 45 minutes: 95 Shared lesson for small pony drivers: 50 per driver Friday evening hot buffet style meal: per head Anvil Park Stud can provide stabling and hook ups for those wishing to have lessons on both days of the clinic or stay over for the on-foot clinics and Arena Sports Driving competitions on Saturday. Portable stabling is permitted. Electric pens and stabling horses on lorries or trailers is not permitted at this venue. To book stabling and hook-ups, please contact Emma Alexander at Anvil Park Stud on

3 Master Classes On-foot training Saturday March 24th Saturday 9.00 am a.m. Precision Driving Master Class with Minta Winn This on-foot session is invaluable to those new to driving trials or sports driving competitions, and those seeking to improve their cones driving skills. The clinic will introduce drivers to the rules for the cones (precision) competition, penalties and how to avoid some of them, provide an understanding of the combination obstacles and how to drive them, the art of course walking and choosing the route that suits your turnout and driving ability. Participants will be encouraged to ask many questions. Participants will build the cones course for the Cones Fault Competition and walk the course with expert advice ready for the competition. Fee: 20 per person Saturday am a.m. Long-Reining Master Class with Jessie Dudley-Apicella Interested in Long-reining competitions? Want to learn how to improve your horse s obedience, straightness and suppleness through long-reining? This is a fabulous opportunity to learn from one the most accomplished show drivers in the country who had three turnouts in the Horse of the Year Show Private Driving Championships in 2017, and has won numerous show driving Championships. In this on-foot session you will learn long-reining techniques for training young horses in preparation for breaking to harness and working harness horses for the show ring. The clinic will provide you with the basics to get you started in long-reining, from personal safety when working the horse in long-reins, and the correct equipment and fit of equipment, to demonstrating some basic exercises for schooling the horse to promote suppleness, straightness, obedience and balance. Fee: 20 per person Saturday a.m. Obstacle Driving Master Class with Minta Winn Driving obstacles at speed is probably the most exciting and adrenaline pumping part of Driving Trails and Sports Driving. In this on-foot session participants will learn the art of driving obstacles, gain an understanding of the rules for the obstacle driving phase, how to walk an obstacle and choose the route that is right for your turnout and driving ability. Learn the importance of planning alternative routes, and what to do if you make an error of course and how to correct it quickly. Obstacle driving has its own set of rules and penalties, and these will be discussed for Indoor and Outdoor competitions. Participants will build an Obstacle, walk it and plan their routes with expert advice. Fee: 20 per person Special Master Class Pass (all 3 clinics): 50

8 THE IMPORTANT STUFF, PLEASE READ: 1. It is the responsibility of all officials and competitors to ensure they have knowledge of the rules and comply with the rules. When you enter an event, you accept the rules and agree to abide by them. Breckland Carriage Driving Club runs its events in accordance with the Breckland Carriage Driving Club Rules and, where rules for competitions are non-existent, then the rules will be taken from the British Carriagedriving Rule Book or the FEI Rule Book for that event. 2. Drivers must have third-party public liability insurance which covers them for attending and taking part in this event. Members of the Breckland Carriage Driving Club are covered for insurance through British Carriagedriving at club events. Non-members must provide proof of third-party public liability insurance with entry. This can be in the form of a membership card for British Carriagedriving, membership from a British Carriagedriving club, BHS Gold, British Driving Society (restricted to competitions run under Optimum time only) or a personal insurance policy covering driving activities. 3. It is the responsibility of ALL persons involved in carriage driving events (officials, drivers, grooms, spectators etc.) to ensure that they remain safe at all times. Drivers must ensure that they have control of their turnout at all times to safeguard themselves, their groom(s) and passenger(s) and everyone involved in the sport. Any horse or pony that rears, bucks or kicks whilst in carriage may be subject to a safety assessment and where a risk is identified will be disqualified. 4. Parents, Guardians and Carers are responsible for ensuring young and vulnerable people are kept safe at events. Young children must not be left unaccompanied whilst at an event (e.g. left in a horsebox alone). The club has a zero tolerance on bullying of any kind. 5. The driver must be the first person to mount the carriage and last person to dismount the carriage. A groom must be in attendance at the head of the horse or pony when the driver is mounting or dismounting the carriage. The bridle must not be removed from the horse until it has been unhitched from the carriage and secured by a head collar. 6. Cruelty to or abuse of any animal (including dogs) by any person at an event is forbidden. Anyone found abusing an animal will be disqualified from the event. 7. Equines must be 4 years of age or over to compete in driving classes. 8. Drivers and grooms must wear securely fastened protective headgear. A suitable back/body protector must be worn by driver and groom for classes or clinics where a marathon type obstacle is included. Infringement will incur Elimination. Anyone who continues on the course without a secured safety hat or a suitable body/back protector after Elimination, will be disqualified. 9. At all times, whilst on a carriage, all persons under the age of 18 must wear a body protector and securely fastened protective headgear. Infringement will result in Elimination. 10. A novice driver in their first competition season, para-driver and junior driver (10-17yrs) must be accompanied by a competent carriage driving groom aged 18 years and over. A second pair of reins may be attached to the bit and held by the groom for safety should an incident occur. In competition the groom must hold the reins in a manner that clearly indicates that they have no physical control of the horse or pony. 11. Carriages with pneumatic tyres specifically designed for the carriage (e.g. not car tyres) are permitted. 12. Drivers of very small ponies (under 11hh) put to a two-wheel carriage, may compete without a groom seated on the carriage, but the groom must be in the arena and ready to assist the driver. This includes Tandems. A small pony put to a two-wheel carriage and driven by a junior driver must have a groom seated on the carriage at all times. Very Small Pony Team drivers may have one groom unmounted in the arena ready to assist if required. 13. Depending on the number of entrants, a turnout may be driven by up to two drivers in a competition. 14. Competitors must clearly display their competition number. Numbers will be provided for use with bibs worn by the groom. Competitors must provide their own number bib. Note about wheel widths: If you have a 3-phase trials carriage, set the wheel width to 125cm. SORRY BUT DUE TO TIME RESTRICTIONS AT THIS EVENT WE CANNOT ACCEPT CARRIAGES WITH NARROWER WHEEL WIDTHS.
