Also at the start Monkstone, which was slow to begin, shifted out and made contact with Gallant Express which resulted in both horses becoming unbalanced and Monkstone being slow into stride. J Duffy (Thiamandi) was issued with a severe reprimand for permitting his mount to shift in near the 900m when not fully clear of Gallant Express, which had to be eased to avoid that horse s heels. In doing so Gallant Express shifted out inconveniencing Miss Steele. Thiamandi over-raced in the middle stages and near the 700m was steadied to avoid the heels of Lord Of The Sky. Word Of Mouth raced greenly.

2 Near the 100m Mount Zero was tightened for room between Thiamandi and Crystal Ruby which shifted in slightly. J Duffy rider of Thiamandi, seventh placegetter, was fined $200 under the provisions of AR137(b) for failing to ride the filly out to the end of the race. In arriving at this penalty Stewards were of the view that J Duffy s actions had cost Thiamandi sixth placing. C Newitt (Change Of Honour) said that the gelding was very disappointing and based on that performance must have something amiss with it clinically. A post race veterinary examination of Change Of Honour failed to reveal any abnormal findings. Race 2 YARRA VALLEY FARMS PLATE metres: Mark s Matilda proved difficult to load and trainer Mr N Blackiston was advised the filly must gain further approval at a jump out prior to racing again. Love For Ransom was slow to begin. Near the 1000m Kukla (NZ) had to be checked to avoid the heels of Valid Contract and as a result got unbalanced and lost ground. Vicario raced wide without cover. Klishina raced keenly and was obliged to race three wide without cover. D Moor (Vicario) was issued with a severe reprimand for permitting his mount to shift in near the 500m when leaving insufficient room for three runners to his inside resulting in crowding to Mark s Matilda, Kukla (NZ) and Rubyone which got quite unbalanced. At arriving at this decision the Stewards did take into account that D Moor did make an effort to relieve the pressure. Passing the 500m Valid Contract blundered and again approaching the 400m dipped. Rounding the home turn Nadeem Lass was held up until straightening. Easy To Look At was held up for clear running upon entering the home straight and near the 250m commenced to hang out across the heels of Klishina and then had to be checked severely when there was insufficient room for that horse to improve between Klishina and Valid Contract. Near the 100m Kukla (NZ) was steadied when tightened for room between Mark s Matilda and Rubyone, which shifted out before being straightened by its rider. Apprentice J Duffy (Klishina) was questioned regarding the tactics he adopted on the filly today when it took up a forward position which is in contrast to its most recent starts and he explained that he was instructed to have his mount wherever it settled best and after jumping well his mount travelled keenly and was left with no other option but to take up a forward position. B Avdulla (Nella Fantasia) reported after the race that the filly raced like it had come to the end of its preparation. Trainer Mr J Moloney confirmed that Nella Fantasia would now be spelled. Race 3 ECORESIGNAGESYSTEMS HANDICAP metres: Prior to correct weight D Dunn rider of Queen Delight, fourth placegetter, and J Hill rider of Counted (NZ), fifth placegetter, both viewed the Stewards film before deciding not to lodge any objections. Stewards were also satisfied there were insufficient grounds for any objections.

3 At a later inquiry A Mallyon (Captivating Lady) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a), the careless riding being that inside the final 100m he permitted his mount shift in whilst riding it along with the whip and as a result caused interference to Queen Delight and Counted (NZ) resulting in both of those horse being crowded for room and having to be checked. A Mallyon had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight July 14 and to expire at midnight July 19, a total of five race meetings. In assessing penalty Stewards took into account A Mallyon s excellent record, the contributing shift from Bel Prince and that the careless riding was in the low range. D Stackhouse (Bel Prince) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a), the careless riding being inside the final 100m he permitted his mount to shift out causing interference to both Queen Delight and Counted (NZ) and played a contributing role in them being crowded and checked. D Stackhouse had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight July 14 and to expire at midnight July 19, a total of five race meetings. Near the 600m Bel Price shifted in slightly and brushed the hindquarters of Nelson s Victory which unbalanced that mare. Bel Price raced four wide without cover. A Mallyon (Captivating Lady) explained that it was not the intention to ride the mare back today, which was in contrast to its normal racing pattern, however he was left with no other option after his mount jumped awkwardly and lost ground. A post race veterinary examination of Flash Of Doubt revealed the mare to have cardiac arrhythmia and trainer Mr R Griffiths was advised that prior to Flash Of Doubt racing again he must submit a veterinary clearance together with the results of an ecg and auscultation performed after a 1000m gallop. A post race veterinary examination of Johannapine revealed no abnormalities other than a slower than normal recovery. Race 4 ASCEND SALES TROPHIES HANDICAP metres: Optical Illusion was a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 10.10am and trainer Mr P Carey will submit a veterinary certificate in respect of it. Ava s Delight and Tunisia Traveller were both slow to begin. Near the 500m Ava s Delight had to be checked to avoid the heels of Space when held up for a run. Rounding the home turn Tunisia Traveller was held up for clear running and near the 300m had to be steadied off the heels of Ava s Delight. Passing the 200m Ava s Delight shifted out to obtain clear running to the outside of Underestimation and in doing so made contact with Use The Lot. During this incident J Duffy (Ava s Delight) lost the use of his off side iron for the remainder of the race. C Schofield (Space) explained that whilst the gelding settled better today without the blinkers he was of the view that it failed to back up from last Saturday at Flemington on July 6. He added that in all the circumstances Space may be better suited with blinkers on. Race 5 M & J CHICKENS HANDICAP metres:

4 Prior to the running of Race 4 trainer Mr B Turner advised that Pretty Adamant would be ridden more forward today if circumstances permit. Pretty Adamant settled worse than mid-field. Constant Force proved difficult to load and co-trainer Mr S Wilde was advised that the gelding must gain further approval at a jump prior to racing again. Montgomery (NZ) was slow to begin. Tanah Lot (NZ) over-raced in the early and middle stages which resulted in the horse going forward midrace to lead the field. Passing the 700m Fabriano shifted out from behind Midnight Glory and in doing so made contact with Ulundi which unbalanced that gelding. Border Express when being slow to begin was then tightened for room between Ulundi and Pretty Adamant which both shifted ground. Border Express then raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages. Midnight Glory raced three wide without cover. J Cartwright reported that Constant Force didn t handle the shifty ground today. Race 6 POLYTRACK SIR JOHN MONASH STAKES (Listed) metres: S Arnold (Skytrain) was cautioned and advised to exercise more care when he permitted his mount to shift in momentarily near the 900m tightening the running of Second Effort which got unbalanced. In the straight Pago Rock hung in and had to be corrected on two occasions by its rider, C Schofield. After the running of the race the RV veterinary surgeon reported that Pago Rock had unilateral blood in its off side nostril. Trainer Mr D Hayes was advised that Pago Rock must gallop over 1000m in front of a Stewards before racing again. B Avdulla, rider of Mrs Onassis which performed below market expectations, explained that in his opinion the mare failed to run as expected first up and also failed to handle today s track conditions. A post race veterinary examination of Mrs Onassis revealed no abnormalities. J Mott, rider of Zamorar which was disappointing, could offer no explanation. A post race veterinary examination of Zamorar revealed no abnormalities other than a slower than normal recovery. D Dunn, rider of Happy Galaxy which was disappointing, advised in his view the colt did not seem comfortable on today s track conditions. A post race veterinary examination of Happy Galaxy revealed no abnormalities and a swab sample was taken for analysis. Race 7 RICHMOND F.C. 60K MEMBER HANDICAP metres: Prior to the commencement of the meeting connections advised that Brave Prince would be ridden back today from the wide barrier. Brave Prince was ridden accordingly. Winta Chiller jumped away awkwardly. Kings Palace was slow to begin. Brave Prince got its head up when being restrained in the early stages and raced ungenerously.

5 Charmed Harmony over-raced in the early stages when being restrained. Charmed Harmony hung out in the home straight. Vintage Lad hung in in the straight. C Newitt (Charmed Harmony) was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on that gelding today when restrained early and settled back in the field which was in contrast to its normal racing pattern. He explained that at previous starts the horse had tended to over-race and with the removal of blinkers today he was instructed to try and have the gelding positioned around mid-field. C Newitt further added that he was reluctant to ride his mount along in the early stages, due to its history of over-racing. He added that he was unable to take up a mid-field position with cover and therefore got further back than was planned, in particular when his mount shifted out abruptly when negotiating the 1200m turn. Trainer Mr M Price stated that whilst he did want Charmed Harmony ridden off the speed he did not expect the gelding to be that far back in the early stages. As a result of the performance today Mr Price explained that they would endeavour to step the gelding up in distance and with a favourable barrier draw, to again try and ride the gelding closer to the speed and undertook to notify the Stewards prior to its next start of any such change. L Nolen (Brave Prince) could offer no real excuses for the colt s disappointing performance, he said he was able to get his mount to settle back in accordance with his instructions but then failed to respond to his riding from the 600m. A post race veterinary examination of Brave Prince revealed no abnormal findings. M Payne, rider of Grand Emperor which weakened over the concluding stages, explained the gelding pulled hard in the early and middle stages. C Symons reported after the race that Kings Palace was fractious in the barriers and therefore he sought assistance from the barrier attendants, and then was slow to begin when the gates were released. Race 8 BIB STILLWELL BMW HANDICAP metres: After leaving the mounting yard Reparations dislodged J Winks and galloped for some time before being captured. Stewards subsequently authorised the withdrawal of Reparations at 4.10pm. All monies invested on Reparations to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters prior to 4.10pm: 13 cents in the dollar for the Win (Offenders), 12 cents in the dollar for place of winner, 12 cents in the dollar for second place (Under The Eiffel) and 12 cents in the dollar for third place (Alpha Proxima). Prior to correct weight J Mott rider of Under The Eiffel, second placegetter, and M Payne rider of Cellarmaster (NZ), sixth placegetter, both viewed the Stewards film before deciding not to lodge any objections. Stewards were also satisfied there were insufficient grounds for any objections. Luckyi mbarefoot jumped away awkwardly and was slow to begin. Near the 100m Cellarmaster (NZ) was checked when tightened for room between Alpha Proxima and Offenders, which both shifted ground before being straightened by their respective riders. Approaching the 105m Under The Eiffel shifted to the inside of Alpha Proxima, which resulted in Corvidae having to be eased to avoid Under The Eiffel s heels.

6 G Boss (Cornwall Park (NZ)) could offer no excuses for today s performance and was of the understanding that the gelding may be going to Queensland.
