Introduction The following document outlines the rules and regulations for the Fixed Specification Club Racing League (VVF Club Racing). VVF Club Racing was designed to provide a low entry cost, fun yet mildly competitive environment which allows pilots to match and compare skills. We have made every attempt to keep a level playing field by providing a spec. airplane that is inexpensive, can be easily assembled and repaired and which allows a performance envelope that provides true pilot vs. pilot competition and not a builder vs. builder or wallet vs. wallet competition. The rules as outlined in this document are to serve as the general guideline for all VVF Club Racing events but may evolve over time to adjust to improvements or unforeseen situations. Any time there are any doubts as to interpretation of these rules the race coordinator for the event will have the final decision. All competitors participating in VVF Club Racing need to be active Club members. As with any event held at Vista View Park; participants will uphold all AMA rules, Club rules and Vista View Park rules. One exception to Club rules will be made for VVF Club Racing events and that is the increase in airborne aircraft limit to encompass all participating heat airplanes on the race course as long as the race course is set up to the east of the VVF designated flying area (see Course Layout). Club Racing Rules and Regulations Page 2 of 15

Safety General Consideration of safety for spectators, participants and contest personnel is of the outmost importance. Hazardous flying over the racecourse or any flying over controlled spectator areas or pits during competition is a black flag offense. Alcoholic beverages shall not be allowed in the pits or on the racecourse. Intentional hazardous flying, unsportsmanlike conduct or consumption of alcoholic beverages during competition shall be cause for immediate disqualification from the contest. Crowd and Participant Safety 1. Every person going onto the racecourse or between the designated sideline and the racecourse (see Course Layout) and all pilots and officials shall properly wear a helmet approved by the organizers at all times. 2. Only pilots and officials participating in a heat shall be allowed on the racecourse during any racing. Spectators, helpers and non participants not involved in the current heat shall stay in the designated spectator area (see Course Layout). No work is to be done on any airplanes on the racecourse beyond connecting or disconnecting batteries, if any work is needed the participant must leave the racecourse to complete this work. A ready area will be available for pilots and official waiting to participate in the next heat, this area can be used to stage airplanes. 3. During racing all judges and pilots will stay in their designated area (see Course Layout) until all airplanes have been brought down and it is safe to retrieve them. If an airplane were to prematurely go down during a heat the pilot must wait until the heat is over before retrieving it. If the starter deems there may be a hazardous situation (such as a potential LiPo fire) he or she may abort the heat to deal with this situation. If a heat is aborted there will be a scheduled re-fly (see Heat Interruption & Re-fly) Authority of Race Coordinator The race coordinator is the ultimate authority during an event. They will be responsible for ensuring that any potentially unsafe situation is handled properly. The race coordinator will also make any determination on a situation that is not covered by these rules as well as be the ultimate authority in the interpretation of the rules. All decisions made by the race coordinator are final. Authority of Scrutineering Aid The race coordinator may assign a scrutineering aid to help in the registration and scrutineering process during the beginning of a race. Unless overruled by the race coordinator, the scrutineering aid s decisions in all matters related to airplane conformance to the rules and airworthiness are final. Authority of Starter The starter acts for the race coordinator in all matters arising on the racecourse. Unless overruled by the race coordinator, the starter s actions and decisions concerning the start, finish and operation of each heat are final. Airworthiness 1. The materials and workmanship of the airplane shall be of satisfactory standards. The race coordinator or starter may refuse permission to fly or may disqualify any aircraft which, in his or her opinion, is not safe and airworthy in terms of workmanship, radio installation, radio function or evidence of damage. 2. Any aircraft that has been damaged after a safety inspection or has a known history of problems shall not be permitted to fly until it has been satisfactorily repaired and re-inspected. 3. During registration, all aircraft and alternate airframes shall undergo a safety inspection to ensure they are airworthy (see Registration & Scrutineering). 4 Aircraft Specification Airframe 1. The airframe shall be the specified airframe designed and distributed by. This airframe is made of 9mm Depron for the wing and 6mmm Depron for the fuselage and empennage and is modeled after the XtremeAir Sbach 342 sporting a 34 wingspann which results in a approximately an 1/8 scale airframe. No other airframes are allowed. The spec airframe is depicted below. Figure 1 Airframe Design 2. Airframe modifications are NOT allowed. This includes, but is not limited to: Reducing airframe size (e.g. clipping wings etc.). Carving, sanding or burnishing (crushing) any airframe components (e.g. rounding leading edges or tapering trailing edges). Cutting or routing lightening holes or cavities. Adding fairings or other aerodynamic aids to cover or hide power system or radio system components. The following construction and installation procedures are allowed: Adding additional reinforcement such as Carbon Fiber rods or packing tape. Cutting grooves to capture servo wires. Cutting holes in the fuselage to pass servo and power wires from one side of the airframe to the other. Covering and attaching wires with tape or other hold down mechanism. 3. Replacement foam only airframes are available from by contacting an officer. In order to ensure all airframes are equal this will be the only place airframes can be acquired. Power System The power system will be available throughh as part of the complete aircraft kit and is made up of the following components: 1. EMAX CF KV Brushless Outrunner Motor. Max 3S, Max 16A 2. 5 A note one propellers: The supplied propellers must be flown as supplied; no modifications like trimming or profile re- evenly from the shaping are allowed. The only exception to this rule is that a small amount of material may be removed heavy side of the propeller in order to achieve proper balance. Other Components The following components will also be provided with the airframe and need to be used: 1. Carbon Fiber Reinforcement Strip (6mm X 1mm X 1000mm) 2. Servos (HXT 900) 3. Control Horns 4. Quick Links 5. Push-Rods 6. Hinge Tape Any additional required or selected components such as adhesive, hook and loop, double stick tape, packing tape, etc. will not be provided but can be used as neededd to complete the airplane. Radio System Any Radio system that complies with AMA and Club rules can be used. If a 72Mhz system is used the frequency must be reserved on the frequency board as per standard club procedures. Aircraft Marking When Pilots register they will be assigned the following identifying components: Aircraft Number Aircraft Number Color Aircraft Marking Color Aircraft Marking Location This information will be used to uniquely identify each aircraft using the following guidelines: Figure 2 Aircraft Marking Upper Club Racing Rules and Regulations Page 5 of 15

Figure 3 Aircraft Marking Lower Figure 4 Aircraft Marking Tail Each pilot is responsible for ensuring that his or her airplanes are built correctly and that the identification components are correctly applied. Each airframe will come with the necessary elements to complete all markings as well as additional decorations: Aircraft number decals (in specified number & color) Colored self-adhesive trim strips (in specified marking color) Canopy decals (2) VVF Club Racing and Combat Logoo decals (2) Club Racing Rules and Regulations Page 6 of 15

Course Course Layout 1. Races will be held on a two-pylon course. 2. The two pylons shall be placed 60 yards (180 feet) apart. 3. Pylon #1 shall be at the right of the course and pylon #2 shall be at the left of the course. 4. Pilots and the race starter will stand in a box placed 30 yards (90 feet) away on a perpendicular line from the line between the pylons. Although it is recommended that the pilot box be close to the center of the line between the pylons the actual location will be decided by the Race Coordinator. 5. The Start Finish Line will be perpendicular to the line connecting the pylons located at pylon #2. 6. The Lap Judges will stand in a box placed 30 yards (90 feet) away from pylon #2 on the Start Finish Line. 7. The Cut Judge will stand in a box placed 30 yards (90 feet) away from pylon #1 on a perpendicular line to the line between the pylons. 8. The flight line is defined as the line connecting the Lap Judge, Pilots and Cut Judge boxes. 9. A spectator line will be set up 10 yards (30 feet) behind the flight line. All spectators, pilots, judges and other race personnel will be behind the spectator line at all times unless participating in a race heat. 10. Racing direction will be counter clockwise around the pylons (left turns). Course Diagram Figure 5 Course Layout Club Racing Rules and Regulations Page 7 of 15

Race Operations This section describes the processes and procedures that will be followed during the day of an event. Each event will constitute a Race within the championship (for more on the championship see next chapter) and will be held entirely within one day. Within the race there will be several race heats (heats for short) and each pilot will participate in some and will help judge in others. The combination of these heats makes up the completed race. Information on individual races as well as race and championship schedules will be posted in the club website at: Registration & Scrutineering 1. At the beginning of a race all participating pilots will have to register for that even. The registration process is simple and constitutes the pilot reporting their intent to participate in the event and the scrutineering of the pilot s airplanes by the race coordinator and the scrutineering aid. 2. A pilot may register up to 3 airplanes for a single event. These airplanes can be complete, ready to fly airplanes or airplanes without a power system. 3. Each airplane will be checked for the following a. Complete conformance to the race rules. Airplane shape, construction, equipment and labeling must be complete according to the stipulations laid out in this document. b. Airworthiness. The construction of the airplane and repairs to any damage to the airplane must have been carried out in such a way that there is no risk of failure or danger to others. 4. Once an airplane has been deemed airworthy for the event it will receive a participation sticker. The airplane must sport this sticker during the complete event but it may be removed if desired after the event is over. 5. In the case of any damage incurred by an airplane during a heat a pilot may repair this damage and have the airplane re-scrutinized to continue with it in the event. 6. The registration period will be posted in the race schedule on the website as well as at the event. Once the registration period is closed no more registrations will be allowed. Scrutineering will continue after registrations are closed until all airplanes have been scrutinized and throughout the race if necessary. Heat Schedule After registration is complete the heat schedule will be generated and posted at race control. The number of rounds and the number of pilots per round will be pre-defined for the event and this will determine how the heat schedule will be generated and how many heats there will be per round. Each pilot will participate in one heat per round according to the posted schedule. Heat Execution This section outlines the execution of a racing heat. All race heats will be executed in the same fashion. Roles Pilots Pilots will be in charge of their airplanes and radio at all times while on the race-course. All batteries must be connected after entering the race-course and disconnected before leaving. All pilots will launch their own airplanes, no helpers are allowed. Pilots must stand in the pilot area in the assigned order. Starter The starter will be in charge of starting and finishing the heat, marking any judge/pilot/spectator area flyover cuts and determining if there is an unsafe situation that warrants a heat interruption. The starter will stand behind the pilots. Club Racing Rules and Regulations Page 8 of 15

Lap Judges There will be a lap judge assigned to each pilot/airplane. The lap judges will note on their lap sheet the number of laps their assigned airplane flies as well as the number of turns that result in a cut. The lap judges will stand in the lap judge box. Cut Judge There will be one cut judge. The cut judge will mark down any cuts on their cut sheet. The cut judge will stand in the cut judge box. Heat Schedule Heats within the same round will be executed in sequence as expeditiously as possible. Participants will be given time to prepare or put away their airplanes and switch to or from their pilot and assigned judging roles. A quick briefing will be held with the participants laying out the start order and count sheets will be handed out to all the judges. A larger break will be held between the distinct rounds, this break will be of a length determined adequate by the race coordinator but shall be no shorter than 15 minutes. This time will also be used by the race coordinator to tally all the scores for the round and enter them into the scoring software as well as to prepare the scoring sheets for the next round. Start 1. Once all pilots and judges are in position the starter will officially start the heat. The start of the heat will be signaled verbally by the starter with the following phrase Thirty Seconds. This will indicate to the pilots that there are 30 seconds remaining before they can launch their planes. At this time the pilots should connect their flight batteries, check the operation of their airplane and get ready to launch. 2. Twenty five seconds later the starter will make a verbal announcement Five Seconds. This will indicate to the pilots to prepare to launch and to start their motors. 3. Five seconds later the starter will start the heat with two short air-horn blasts separated by about 1 second. The start will be a staggered start and pilots in position 2 and 4 (from left to right) will launch on the first horn blast and pilots in position 1 and 3 will launch on the second horn blast. 4. Airplanes will launch straight out from the pilots station and will execute a left turn around pylon #2 crossing the start-finish line for the beginning of lap 1. Lap counters will not record the first crossing of the start-finish line as a completed lap but will record the turn as a cut if the airplane does not completely circle pylon #2. The following diagram illustrates the path of the first recorded lap: Figure 6 First Lap Flight Path Club Racing Rules and Regulations Page 9 of 15

During the Heat Procedure Pilots shall circle the course in a counter-clockwise direction for as many laps as possible within the allotted heat time. Laps Only complete laps shall be scored. Lap scoring will be made by the lap judge when their designated airplane crosses the start-finish line. The lap judge will use the following marking schema on their lap chart: I Completed clean lap O Completed lap with a cut X Cut on lap zero (immediately after start, no lap credit is given here so if there is no cut a I should NOT be marked) All lap scoring shall stop as soon as the heat is complete (one long horn blast) Pylon #1 Cuts The cut judge will observe all airplanes and determine if there are any cuts at pylon #1. The cut judge will mark each cut with a I on the cut chart in the column corresponding to the airplane that made the cut. The following table references what constitutes a good turn and what constitutes a cut: flies around the pylon is a good turn. flies behind the pylon but the turn is made at least 10 feet to the right of the pylon is a good turn. turns to the left of the pylon shall be marked as a cut. clearly completes the turn in front of the pylon shall be marked as a cut. Note: if an airplane is flying too high to determine whether they are flying in front or behind the pylon then a cut shall NOT be marked on any turn where the airplane flies more than 10 feet to the right of the pylon. Pylon #2 Cuts Pylon #2 cuts shall be marked by the lap judges only for their assigned airplanes. As mentioned above, when a cut is made the lap will be logged with a O as opposed to good laps which will be logged with an I. If the cut occurs on lap 0 the mark Club Racing Rules and Regulations Page 10 of 15

shall be an X though no mark shall be made if the turn is good. The following table references what constitutes a good turn and what constitutes a cut: flies around the pylon is a good turn. flies in front of the pylon but the turn is made at least 10 feet to the left of the pylon is a good turn. turns to the right of the pylon shall be marked as a cut. clearly completes the turn behind the pylon shall be marked as a cut. Note: if an airplane is flying too high to determine whether they are flying in front or behind the pylon then a cut shall NOT be marked on any turn where the airplane flies more than 10 feet to the left of the pylon, this shall constitute a good lap and shall be scored with a I. Judge/Pilot/Spectator Area Cuts The starter will also be in charge of judging fly-over cuts. If a pilot flies over any of the judges stations or the pilot station the starter will mark their cut sheet with a I for the corresponding pilot. If a pilot flies over the spectator area the starter will mark their cut sheet with a I I for the corresponding pilot. In addition, the starter will at this time call out the airplane markings and request the pilot to land due to a spectator fly-over infraction. If a pilot has two standard fly-over infractions or a single spectator fly-over infraction they will score zero laps and zero points for that heat. Mechanical Failures In such a case that an airplane suffers a mechanical failure in flight the pilot will land the airplane immediately in the safest fashion and safest location possible. The airplane shall remain in this location until the heat is completed and all other pilots have landed; only at this time may the airplane be retrieved. The pilot will still be scored for the heat incorporating all laps completed as well as any cuts incurred during the turning of these laps. Accidents and Collisions In such a case that an airplane a collision with any obstacle (including the pylons) the pilot will land the airplane immediately in the safest fashion and location possible. The airplane shall remain in this location until the heat is completed and all other pilots have landed; only at this time may the airplane be retrieved. The pilot will still be scored for the heat incorporating all laps completed as well as any cuts incurred during the turning of these laps. In the case of a mid-air collision involving two or more pilots all involved pilots shall land their airplanes immediately. Club Racing Rules and Regulations Page 11 of 15

Unsafe Situations At any time the starter may deem that there is an unsafe situation occurring on the race course. In this case the starter will immediately signal this situation with three consecutive blasts of the air horn. This shall be an indication to all pilots to land immediately in the safest fashion and location possible or follow any alternate verbal instructions provided by the starter. No airplanes may be retrieved until all airplanes have landed. All scoring will cease at this point in time and the starter will determine whether the heat will go in the books as complete or whether there will be a re-fly later. Finish Two minutes and thirty seconds after the heat start the starter will signal the end of the heat with one long blast of the airhorn. When the heat is completed all pilots will stop racing and land on the race course between the pylons and in front of the flight line. All pilots and judges will remain in their corresponding locations until all airplanes have landed safely. Only at this time may airplanes be retrieved. Flight batteries should be disconnected where the airplane landed and then the airplane may be carried off the course. Heat Interruption & Re-fly It is the determination of the starter or the race coordinator is a situation arises that will require a re-fly. Collisions or mechanical failure will typically not warrant a re-fly. The primary exception to this rule is when a mid-air collision occurs during the start leg (on lap zero) that involves all or all but one of the airplanes in the heat (note, in a two airplane heat this collision would have to involve both airplanes). All re-fly heats will happen after all regular race rounds and heats have been completed but before any tie breaker heats are flown. Heat Results At the end of each round race heats will be scored. Scoring is simple and consists of entering all laps and cuts into the race control software. The following scoring rules are followed for each heat: 1. All completed laps (whether with or without cuts) will score +1 on the pilots lap score. 2. All cuts at a pylon #1 will score -½ on the pilots lap score. 3. All cuts at a pylon #2 will score -½ on the pilots lap score. 4. The first cut over the judges or pilots will score -1 on the pilots lap score. 5. The second cut over the judges or pilots; or any cut over the spectators will set the pilots lap score to 0. Once the lap score for all the heat pilots has been tallied heat points are assigned to the pilots as follows: 1. Points will be assigned in descending order by descending lap score (highest lap score, most points). A standard heat in a max 4 pilot per heat race would thus have the following points assigned: 1 st = 4 points; 2 nd = 3 points; 3 rd = 2 points; 4 th = 1 point. A standard heat in a max 3 pilot per heat race would thus have the following points assigned: 1 st = 3 points; 2 nd = 2 points; 3 rd = 1 point. 2. The maximum heat score will be equivalent to the maximum pilots allowed in any heat for the race. If a race allows 4 pilots per heat 1 st place for the heat (greatest lap score) will get 4 points irrespective of whether that particular heat had 4 pilots or 3 pilots. 3. In case of a tied lap score the tied pilots will receive the average points associated with the positions they hold and the next position (e.g. if two pilots are tied for 2 nd place in a 4 pilot race they will both receive 2.5 heat points; In this situation the next pilot would hold the 4 th place and there would be no 3 rd place). Three-way and four-way ties are handled the same way. 4. If a pilot has a lap score of 0 they will receive 0 heat points. Club Racing Rules and Regulations Page 12 of 15

Race Results At the end of the race all the pilots heat points for all the heats they flew are added up and this will determine the final results for the race with the pilot with the most heat points being the winner. Race Tie Breakers If there is a tie in any of the race positions the following process will determine the finishing order of the race: 1. If two or more pilots have the same number of heat points the highest lap score in the pilot s best heat will be the first tie breaker. 2. If two pilots have the same number of heat points and the same highest lap score then the total number of laps will be used as the second tie breaker. 3. If two or more pilots are still tied after the first two tie-breakers in any position other than 1 st place then they will receive the same finishing position for the race. 4. If there is still a tie in first place after the first two tie-breakers then there will be a single heat fly-off involving all pilots tied for 1 st place. This fly-off heat will proceed in the same fashion as all other heats with one exception: When the starter signals the end of the heat pilots will complete the current lap and race back to the start-finish line. The Starter will then note what position the pilots finished in. If there is a lap score tie at the end of the heat these finishing positions will be used to break the lap score tie and determine the final heat results. Sample Scoring Sheets Starter Note: Finish Position boxes are only used in case of a fly-off Club Racing Rules and Regulations Page 13 of 15

Championship Results Championship Calendar There will typically be two distinct championships each calendar year; the spring championship and the fall championship. Each of the championships will be made up of a pre-determined number of races. Official championship dates will be posted in the club website at: Championship Position A pilot s position in the championship will be determined by dropping their lowest scoring race and then adding the championship points for all the remaining races in the championship. The pilot with the highest number of points after all the races have been completed will be the championship winner. Race Results Points Assignment After each race has been completed each participating pilot will receive the number of championship points corresponding to their finishing position and the number of pilots participating based on the table shown in the next section. In the case of a tie both the pilots holding the position will receive the same number of points for the position (there will be no averaging with subsequent positions). For example, if a race has 4 participants with two tied for 2 nd place they would earn the following points: 1 st Place 82.0 points 2 nd Place 61.8 points 2 nd Place 61.8 points 4 th Place 21.4 points Individual Race Points Table Number of Pilots Finish Position Club Racing Rules and Regulations Page 15 of 15
