Silver Oak - Still seeking initial on-the-board finish after 7 trips to the post, and less-than-stellar takeoffs in 4 of those tries haven't helped the cause; gets her first chance to try two turns today with blinkers coming off and note front wraps were added last time. 2. Adaptability - Has missed 16 opportunities to this point counting the 870-yard try here off the No Cal claim; only try at a mile came over the Golden Gate tapeta last year and she went evenly that day; this race does come up pretty weak and she has shown a spark of life with apprentice Solis trying his hand. 3. Riverka - Another in here who has had a lot of chances, including 5 attempts at this once-around journey without a trifecta finish; lone exacta completion came when she was a distant runner-up in a bottom level affair here at 4.5 furlongs under the lights. 4. Golden Caramel - The new face in the field asked to go a mile in the introduction; sire has had 3 winners from 73 beginners, while mom was 30-for-24 in her racing days and has seen two of her five starters get the picture taken; modest local drills on the tab. 5. Curlina Curlina - Has had her share of nibbles, including a few going this distance, but hasn't been able to put it all together to this point; been freshened a bit by Harrington and racing over the track where she does her training; likely her easiest assignment to date and has to be considered. 5. 2 2 nd by 3-Year-Olds and Up, maiden special weight, One Mile Kaleem Shah General Kitten & Taste s Legend 1. Colonial Power - Some promise when beginning career two years ago and first off the long vacation, but has failed to menace in last pair and now stretches out while racing as a gelding for the first time; will need to pick things up a bit for more than a minor award in this line-up. 2. Roosevelt - Has chased home a couple of very nice runners thus far in Santa Anita Derby winner Gormley and Microrithms, with the latter scheduled to suit up in today;s 8th race; son of Bodemeister has every right to move forward with last one under his belt and the added real estate. 3. General Kitten - All three of his starts have come over the Santa Anita turf and has been only a modest factor to this point; been given some time by Hansen with a steady string of San Luis Rey Downs works in tow and does have the distance experience working for him. 4. Taste s Legend - Made belated debut at age 5 this year and has been beaten double digits in each of her three appearances, including the most recent when stretched out to this journey across town a month ago; blinkers go on and he's facing a tough task in this spot. 5. Thorpe D Oro -Turned in a big effort in his May 27 debut at Santa Anita going a mile and a sixteenth, as he forced the issue from the get-go under Bejarano and battled it out gamely from the inside to lose a heartbreaker; a trio of nice works since and anything near a repeat of that outing puts this O'Neill trainee in the circle. 5. 3 3 rd by 3-Year-Olds and Up, starter allowance, Five and One-Half Furlongs Agapito Delgadillo Broadway Nika & Madelyn s Wild Max 1. Madelyn s Wild Max - Wins his share and the only member of this cast who hasn't made an appearance on this track; paid instant dividends off that April claim with an upset over today's foe Broadway Nika, but has had to settle for a pair of 4ths in the interim; Maldanado tries his hand and will need his best. 2. May B - He's perfect in two starts over this mile layout and his most recent victory came a little less than a year ago going 870 yards over the smaller night oval; most recent here under the lights came off an 8-month respite and he's being united with the hot apprentice Roman for the first time; must respect that speed 3. Shining Hope - Last 9 trips to the post have come in 870-yard affairs here in the evening hours, yielding mixed results while being off-the-board in his 3 outings over the mile oval; segues into a starter allowance spot and will have to come up with a bit more punch if he wants to reach. 4. Cherokee Dynasty - Wheels back in just 5 days after chasing home a pretty tough group on closing day in Arcadia; rattled off three straight victories over softer prior to that, putting his versatility on display in the process; broke his maiden over this layout at 2nd asking back in December of Broadway Nika- His 12 lifetime scores is tops in the field and he has proven that he can get the job done going short or long; lost a tough one two back to the rail horse after battling it out on a fourhorse spread that day going this journey, then faltered when trying turf in the most recent; back to his preferred surface now. 6. I B Mike - The last time he suited up at this course he posted a solid score at last year's fall meet and changed hands; not much doing in the two subsequent starts, but did have his share of trouble going 870 in that last one here at night; should be up close and personal from the outside and will have to dig deep. 2. Into Kings -Went evenly when facing straight maidens up at Golden Gate in first start for new trainer, new he returns to the claiming ranks while continuing to work in sharp fashion up in Albany; has flashed some speed and that would serve him well from the rail under new pilot Frey. 2. Two Shot Warren - Lone start came a week ago going 870 under the lights here, took a bit of tote action and failed to menace after having some traffic troubles; will have to do better. 3. Full Access - Was previously conditioned by recentlyretired veteran Jerry Fanning; failed to threaten in the two starts to this point, the most recent coming down the hill at Santa Anita back in March, now gets some class relief with a solid set of drills showing across town. 4. Chrisiscookin - Had the misfortune of running into the promising Microrithms in his only start last month, with that runner coming back later today; a slow start from the rail didn't help the cause and this drop into a claiming race makes sense today. 5. Beyond Wonderful - The new shooter for Jones, who is overdue for a rookie winner; sire is 12-for-96 with his debuters and mom was a stakes winner of 280K; a full brother to debut winner Luna Azteca; like those local drills with Theriot guiding from the cozy outside slot; tote and post parade check due. 5. A New Trend - Opened up clear lead as the favorite on turf, but had little to offer in the final eighth of a mile and wound up sixth of seven 16 days ago. Respect his zip and may appreciate the return to dirt as only victory came vs. state bred maidens on the Del Mar main track Nov. 6, Face of Victory - Runner-up in last pair, including when favored 22 days ago at longer distance. Chased a quick pace, assumed command in midstretch, but was no match for the winner, who rallied from behind. Major player once more and jockey and trainer combined to win the meet s first race Thursday with Journeyonthemove. 3. Fly to Mars - Returned after nearly one year on the bench as a first-time gelding and was up in the final strides to score for stable that led the recently concluded Santa Anita meet. Should get a good trip tucked in just behind the pacesetters and is an obvious threat to win right back. 4. Lady Bellamy - Takes on the opposite sex after responding to a class drop to break her maiden when the choice at this distance 50 days. Brought back in a spot where she can t be tagged, but would need improvement to repeat. Gets first crack to race over the track where she trains. 5. Magic Taste - Sheds seven pounds with a switch to an apprentice, but tough to endorse on the win end given his 1-for-26 record. 6 6 th by 2-Year-Old Fillies, maidens, California bred or sired, Five Furlongs Tom Stull-Tommy Town Thoroughbreds : Venice 1. Helen s Tiger - Smiling Tiger is 1-for-12 with his debuters and dam, who was 1-for-3 on the track, has had one prior foal who was 0-for-7. Purchased for $62,000 in April and had some sharp drills over this track for stable that has won or shared five training titles here since thoroughbred racing returned in July, Rossmoor Way - Sire is 3-for-24 with his rookies and first foal from dam who won four of nine, including three stakes as a 2-year-old. Homebred debuts over track where she has trained and gets a weight break with an apprentice taking the call. 3. Venice - Flees the rail for the first time in her career and did improve when dropped into a claimer three weeks ago. Should be prominent from the outset and should be a factor if she continues to move forward. 4. Goodlooknbroad - Good Journey has struck with 19 of his first 145 debuters and winless dam s two prior foals have both won. Three consecutive local bullets for homebred and could come out firing. 5. Family Girl - Sire is 14% with his firsters from a large sample and dam, who won twice in 16 starts, has had one of her three prior foals succeed. Homebred worked quickly from the gate at San Luis Rey June 29 and must be respected for high percentage stable. 6. We Will Re Joyce - Battled for early command, then tired late to finish directly behind Venice in June 18 debut. Draws more comfortable post and horses from this stable generally improve second time out. 7. Great Ma Neri - First foal from sire who won six times and earned nearly $240,000. 7 7 th by 3-Year-Olds & Up, fillies & mares, allowance/claiming, claiming price $40,000, One Mile George Todaro Mangita & Allowances 1. Sugary - Returns to dirt for first time in some 14 months for initial outing since Jan. 29. Hampered by lack of speed and lone win came on turf when rallying from far back to defeat maidens last Nov. 20. Consecutive bullet drills over her home track, but may be prepping for a return to grass. 2. Allowances - Yet to come close in four races on turf and dirt since arriving in the United States. Gets a weight break with the switch to an apprentice, but Irish bred needs a form reversal to contend. 3. Mangita - Long time between victories for veteran mare, who returns to her claimed level and makes a rare start on dirt after pressing the pace and faltering at this trip on turf four weeks ago. Has won on the main track, scoring in her career debut at seven furlongs April 11, 2013 when trained by Bruce Headley. Chance if able to shake free on the lead under apprentice who earned his first local win with The Party Factor on opening day of the Summer Thoroughbred Festival. 4. Demigoddess - Gray filly certainly keeps busy as this will be her 14th start of the year and returns 16 days after splitting the field at shorter trip. Hampered by lack of zip and lone win came at 6 1/2 furlongs in race that fell apart in the final eighth of a mile. 5. Princess Kendra - Trailed early, then rallied strongly along the inside laimto win going away 23 days ago after being claimed for $16,000 from Bill Spawr. Unplaced in only previous try at this venue and is unproven beyond seven furlongs, so conflicting signals on filly who has been 1-2 in four of five in Allsquare - Worked well over this track a week ago prepping for first try since checking in sixth of seven in race taken by win type Plastered. Lightly raced as a 4-year-old, but is 1-for-1 here, outbattling favored Chao Chom to win at this distance during the 2016 LACF meet. 6. Allsquare 3. Mangita 5. Princess Kendra 6. Allsquare 5. Love My Bud - Sidelined since completing the trifecta on turf at shorter distance about 11 months ago. Locally-based gelding has some quick drills on his tab and is 2-for-2 over his home track, including a victory over next out winner Cartoonist during the 2016 Spring meet. 2. Microrithms - Ran to the advance billing in his debut 22 days ago, dominating five opponents to win by more than four lengths as the 9-10 choice. Two sharp drills in the interim - including a best of the morning half mile June 27 - for Hall of Fame trainer, so should be a major player right back. 3. What sontheagenda - Stablemate of Ann Arbor Eddie was moved up by stewards to third after controversial disqualification of original winner Vending Machine on turf one month ago. No worse than third in three races on dirt, including a nose win vs. maidens March Mr. Opportunist - Close early, then faded to finish last in small field on turf 37 days ago. Most effective when able to gain a clear lead, which doesn t seem a likely scenario. Last victory came 14 months ago in which he defeated two opponents. 5. Westwood s Wizard - Controlled pace through slow fractions on the hillside at Santa Anita and graduated bs. $50,000 maidens 37 days ago. Returns to dirt and split the field on the Arcadia main two outs ago when finishing directly behind next out winner Quality Line. Repeat seems unlikely. 6. Ann Arbor Eddie - Homebred has been freshened since finishing a well-beaten fifth in a Grade II at longer distance four months ago. Proven fresh and 1-for-1 over this surface, having defeated maidens in his debut last Oct. 29 and winning the King Glorious at a longer distance over favored California Diamond here last Dec. 18. Factor off the bench. 7. Junior Gilliam - Deep closer failed to threaten when 3-1 at same level 22 days ago. Has been part of the exacta in four of six on dirt and worked a bullet five furlongs (59.60) since raced, so could bounce back for high percentage stable. 2. Microrithms 6. Ann Arbor Eddie 1. 9 9 th by 2-Year-Olds, maidens, California bred or sired, top claiming price $50,000, Five Furlongs Nick Alexander Wildcat Kaos 1. That s Gold - Broke slowly, then failed to get involved when finishing seventh of eight when dismissed at Needs a much better takeoff from this post as he steps into a claimer. Tough to recommend. 2. Wildcat Kaos - Surfaces in a claimer for the first time as he seeks his first on teh board finish. Checked in sevent lengths in front of That s Gold three weeks ago. Could factor with the softer company. 3. Don t Stalk Me - Sire was precocious, winning a pair of graded stakes and running second in the Breeders Cup Juvenile as a 2-year-old while 6- for-21 dam has had two winners from three prior foals. Talented apprentice takes call on homebred who is stablemate of Get Em Up Scout. 4. Alcalde - Had some early, then never threatened when sixth of eight at this level in debut five weeks ago. Blew out well from the gate four mornings ago and could perk up over his home track. 5. Get Em Up Scout - Grazen is 8-for-48 with his rookies and first foal from dam, who was 1-for-8 on the track. Moderate works on tab for homebred, so prefer to see an outing. 6. Lucky Pegasus - The one to catch among the shown element, but needs to improve his stamina. Veteran rider stays put and should find a field he can outlast one of these days. 7. Dominate Warrior - Warrior s Reward has a 14% strike rate with his firsters and first foal from dam, who won 10 times, earned $213,371 and was equally effective going long or short. Homebred has been training locally and isn t debuting a particularly strong spot for winning stable, so beware. 8. Agressivebrawler - Kafwain is about 9% with his rookies and six of dam s nine prior foals have won, including Going for a Spin (7-33, $338,404).
