Cotrainer Ms C Alderson was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness is required prior to Bartholemew racing again. No deductions apply. Near the 1900m O Sasha (NZ) was briefly tightened for room between French Caution and Westsouthwest (NZ) which shifted in slightly. O Sasha (NZ) was held up and unable to obtain clear running rounding the home turn. At the entrance to the straight Myonerose hung out and had to be steadied off the heels of Westsouthwest (NZ). Myonerose then continued to hang out and tightened the running of O Sasha (NZ). L Nolen could offer no excuses for the disappointing performance of Samsili. S King rider of Myonerose, which was eased down in the straight, advised that the filly hung out. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Race 2 D URBAN HANDICAP metres: As D Nikolic was a ½ kg overweight, connections advised that they wished D Dunn to replace him on Princess Maggie at the allotted weight of 53kgs. Connections also advised that Princess Maggie will be ridden more forward in this event. Princess Maggie was ridden accordingly. D Dunn reported that his saddle shifted back on jumping.

2 Near the 900m Miss Elvee had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Cat s Pyjamas which shifted in. In this incident Princess Maggie which was racing to the inside of Miss Elvee was inconvenienced. D Lane rider of Cat s Pyjamas was reprimanded and advised to be fully clear when shifting ground. Near the 800m Bartonelle shifted in tightening the running of Miss Elvee which was taken in towards Princess Maggie which had to be steadied. B Melham (Bartonelle) was advised to exercise care. D Dunn (Princess Maggie) then reported his mount was inclined to lay out prior to this incident. A post race veterinary examination of Princess Maggie revealed no abnormalities. M Payne could offer no excuse for the disappointing performance of Miss Elvee. A post race veterinary examination of Miss Elvee revealed the mare to be showing soreness in the off foreleg and also had a slower than normal recovery and trainer Mr R Griffiths was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness is required prior to Miss Elvee racing again. The track was upgraded from Dead 4 to Good 3 at 2.17pm after the running of this race. Race 3 RICOH HANDICAP metres: C Symons rider of She s Gifted, which weakened in the straight, could offer no explanation for the performance. A subsequent veterinary examination of She s Gifted revealed no abnormalities other than a slower than normal recovery. Race 4 SCHWEPPES HANDICAP metres: Prior to the start of the meeting Stewards established with trainer Ms N Burke that Adams Bell will be ridden wherever comfortable although she expects it to be handy. Adams Bell led. Approaching the 1200m Laspiel had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Mr Molokai (NZ) which was taken in by Adams Bell. Mr Molokai (NZ) and Eternal Sunshine were both held up for clear running rounding the home turn. Laspiel was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight. D Holland, rider of Mondano, advised that he was instructed to ride forward from his wide barrier and in doing so had to use the gelding up in the early stages before taking a position outside Adams Bell passing the 1000m. D Nikolic, rider of Adams Bell which went forward as instructed, advised that when doing so the gelding overraced and for this reason was unable to finish the race off. Race 5 SPORTINGBET HANDICAP metres: Attivita (NZ) jumped awkwardly and lost ground. Fancy Pants pulled hard after leaving the 1000m then shifted out taking Akihito wider. Akihito raced wide from this point on. Sarenko had to be steadied away from the heels of Biondi which shifted in inside the 100m when tiring. J Fry, rider of Sarenko (NZ), reported that his mount was inclined to lay out throughout the event. Race 6 THE AGE HANDICAP metres: Trainer Mr B McCarthy was fined $50 for presenting Commanding Time in the mounting yard with incorrect gear. Secret Stealth was slow to begin and then shifted out and made contact with the hindquarter of Mr Consolidator. Apres pulled hard in the early stages and got its head up.

3 Power O Raylee was held up and unable to improve from the 500m until shortly after entering the straight and near the 400m shifted out and made contact with Mr Consolidator when attempting to improve to the outside of Our Inheritance. Slippery Satin was held up rounding the home turn. S King, rider of Mr Consolidator, advised that after being caught in a three wide position in the early stages due to Apres making ground when over-racing on his inside, he then elected to go forward and take up a position in front to the outside of Our Inheritance. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. B Rawiller, rider of Commanding Time, advised that the gelding was making an unusual respiratory noise during the race. A subsequent veterinary examination of Commanding Time confirmed the gelding was making an unusual respiratory noise and it was recommenced to trainer Mr B McCarthy that he have the gelding scoped. Race 7 BMW HANDICAP metres: J Benbow rider of Wordmaster, sixth placegetter, lodged an objection against Lone Star, fifth placegetter, alleging interference near the 500m. It was established that near the 500m Lone Star shifted to the inside of the heels of Observer, despite the efforts of its rider, tightening the running of Wordmaster however the Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that the incident could warrant a reversal of the placings therefore the objection was dismissed and correct weight was declared. Wordmaster was disappointed for a run between Observer and Lone Star near the 250m. Near the 100m Sandler had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Huon Cry which was taken in by Dad Knows Best. Approaching the winning post Lone Star had to be steadied when tightened for room by Huon Cry which was taken in by Dad Knows Best (C Robertson). C Robertson was severely reprimanded and advised to be fully clear when shifting ground. Wordmaster which was following also had to steady away from Lone Star. C Newitt rider of Lone Star reported that his mount got its tongue over the bit during the race and hung in and was difficult to ride. D Dunn explained that he had been instructed to lead on Observer however if taken on for the lead to endeavour to sit off the pace. He said that in his opinion the gelding has a wind issue and was under pressure prior to the 500m and felt that the gelding may have been galloped on behind by another runner at that stage. He added that in his opinion Observer races best when allowed to lead on its own. A post race veterinary examination of Observer revealed the gelding was making a respiratory noise and co-trainer Mr J Hawkes was advised that Observer should undergo an endoscopic examination within 24 hours and he should submit a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to the gelding racing again. In laying the charge the Stewards do acknowledge there was a slight shift inwards from Gig. M Walker had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight December 17 and to expire at midnight December 29, a total of 11 race meetings (3 city, 8 country). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account M Walker s guilty plea and good record, the slight contribution from Gig and that the careless riding was in the mid-range. Mildura, Friday December 9 Race 2 MILDURA PARTY HIRE MAIDEN PLATE metres: Trainer Mr I Fletcher reported that Mystical Kate is now showing signs of a severe respiratory infection which would explain her poor performance. She is being treated and will continue training as normal when fully recovered. Flemington, Saturday December 10 Race 2 JOHNSTAFF PROJECTS HANDICAP metres: Mr M Hickmott, trainer of Always Discreet, reported to Stewards that subsequent to the race the mare was showing signs of a virus and would now be given a short freshen up at the stables. Race 3 VICTORIA UNIVERSITY HANDICAP metres: Trainer Robert Smerdon advised Stewards that Rockshaft pulled up fine with no abnormalities. Race 5 DOREVITCH PATHOLOGY HANDICAP metres: Ms C Alderson, co-trainer of Josimar, reported to Stewards that the gelding may have jarred up on the firm track conditions, however it is the stable s intention to continue with Josimar s preparation. Race 7 DEL RE NATIONAL FOOD GROUP HANDICAP metres: Trainer Mr J Petch advised Stewards that Euphoric Realm has a history of joint issues and combined with a low post-race heart rate, this may indicate that the gelding did not put in, or appreciate the firm track conditions on the day. Mr Petch added that he would alter Euphoric Realm s work over the coming week in the lead up to accepting in the Christmas Stakes at Caulfield on Monday December 26. Race 8 KANE CONSTRUCTIONS HANDICAP metres: Mr R McDonald, trainer of Daughter O Fortune, advised Stewards that the mare had pulled up well from Saturday s run and a decision on whether to continue with the current preparation would be made in the coming days.

5 Moonee Valley, Sunday December 11 Race 1 PRINCESS PARK PLATE metres: Trainer Mr P Healey has reported to Stewards that Super Dane, which brushed the running rail en route to the barriers, had suffered a laceration to her chest and pulled up quite sore and will now be sent for a spell.
