2 RULES ENTRY DEADLINE: JULY Entries must be on livestock forms furnished by the Kentucky State Fair and must be accompanied by entry fee of $7 per head. exhibitors now have the option of entering online. For more information, see page 7. To enter online, go to Online entries require a credit card. Complete information must be provided. LATE ENTRIES: Double entry fee ($14 per head) will be charged for all entries postmarked after July 10. Late entries must arrive at the Fair office by July 25. Late entries will be accepted for the open show only. No late entries will be accepted in the 4-H/FFA Youth Livestock Show. Exhibitors now have the option of an extra late deadline. Entry Fees of $50 per head will be charged. Extra late entries must arrive at the Fair office by August THE NAME OF EXHIBITOR, AS SIGNED ON ENTRY BLANK, MUST BE THE SAME NAME AS THE CURRENT OWNER AS SHOWN ON BREED REGISTRATION PAPERS. EACH EXHIBITOR SHOULD BE ENTERED ON SEPARATE BLANK. Entries in sheep department should include the name, registration number and date of birth of the animal to be exhibited. If requested by superintendent a certificate of ownership from Breed Association shall be shown. Entries in group classes should be made on entry form. Use of entry as a description will be sufficient. 3. On Thursday, August 24, open sheep will be accepted beginning at 10:00 a.m. Oxford and Montadale must be in barn by 4:00 p.m. All breeds showing on Friday must be in barn by 6:00 p.m. All other breeds must be penned by Noon on Friday, August Open sheep will be released at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August Exhibitors are to use all natural bedding (shavings or straw; no carpet). 6. With proper documentation of entry at another major state fair, an exhibitor may petition at time of entry for early release or late arrival. The request must be verified by state fair involved. 7. All livestock entries should be brought through Gate 4 off Crittenden Drive. 8. Pedigrees of sheep must be recorded in the American or Foreign Record for particular breed to which they belong. All sheep in purebred classes must be registered in the flock books of their respective breeds and bear the American ear tags of their Association as required. 9. No muzzles are allowed in the sheep barn. 125
3 10. Use of artificial coloring disqualifies exhibits. 11. SPECIAL RULE PERTAINING TO SOUTHDOWNS: Southdown sheep are to be shown slick sheared. 12. LAMB CLASSES: Animals shown in lamb classes must have all lamb teeth and show in the class determined by their registration papers. 13. See General Rules for protests, health regulations and other information. 14. An exhibitor is limited to four entries in the yearling or senior lamb classes and may enter no more than two entries per class in the January, February and March lamb classes. Only one entry in the group classes is permitted. 15. Exhibitors are limited to winning two premiums and two ribbons in each class. 16. Premier Exhibitor will be figured on the most points won by an individual exhibitor on the eight (8) head placing highest in individual classes. Ties for Premier Exhibitor will be broken by using 4th, 5th and 6th placings. In the event an exhibitor does not have competition in a breed, a minimum of six head is required to qualify as Premier Exhibitor. 17. An exhibitors meeting will be held prior to release time. 18. Pens will be assigned by the Superintendent according to availability and number and size of sheep. Space for tack is limited and will likewise be assigned with no more than one tack pen per exhibitor. The Fair will provide large, portable containers for the disposal of manure and trash. These vehicles will be parked in various locations throughout Livestock Buildings at all times. No bedding or manure is to be heaped in the area at any time. It must be put into the above containers and will be removed when full and replaced by another receptacle. Help us keep our livestock building clean. Tents or sleeping areas that are enclosed at the top are not permitted in the pen area. Please help us in complying with this fire code regulation. In order to create a good public image and add to the attractiveness of the livestock area, all beds, cots, bedding, etc., must be made up and out of aisles by 8:00 a.m. each morning. This rule will be enforced by management and will also reflect in Shepherd s Award judging. SHEPHERD S AWARD A special award will be offered by the Kentucky State Fair to the five cleanest and most attractive exhibits promoting their breed and the sheep industry. Rules and judging to be determined by a committee. 1st - $50 and BANNER 2nd - $45 3rd - $40 4th - $30 5th - $20 KY Classes open to Kentucky exhibitors only. The objective of this competition is to present a class of sheep in the most attractive manner, to give spectators an opportunity to view a class of beauty, and to improve the image of a Show; to promote sheep and wool. must be ewes, conditioned, fitted and trained to show at halter. Entrant must have a sheep background or sheep interest and may be male or female. The entrant will be judged on the mode of dress selected, which must be attractive and lend elegance to the class. The garment must be made of wool from U.S. and American Loomed. do not have to be owned by the entrant. Every contestant must furnish a short description of the outfit and its construction as well as information about the sheep (ownership, breed, etc.) and a brief biography of the entrant.
