The Colorado Hunter Jumper Association and the 2014 Equitation Committee cordially invite you to join us November at the National Western Events Center in Denver. Medal Finals Qualifiers and Trainers will find class information and schedules on the following pages. All phases of the Medals will be individually pinned. We encourage all members to attend this grand, end of the season tradition; and to cheer on all the Medal Finals contestants. Foxcreek Mobile Equine Outfitters is once again sponsoring the Horsemanship Challenge. Please plan on joining us Friday afternoon for a reception at the Events Center. The Horsemanship Challenge Test will take place in conjunction with this reception. We will again have the wonderful breakfast bar at the show office on Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning provided by CHJA and arranged by White Harvest Farm. Saturday and Sunday CHJA will host a luncheon from 11:30 am 2:00 pm at the Events Center. The Medal Finals and Exhibitors Parties are held to honor you, the riders and trainers, and to thank you for all of your hard work throughout the year. We look forward to seeing all of our members during the Finals. Best of luck to all the 2014 CHJA Medal finalists! Sincerely, The 2014 Equitation Committee Barb Arkin Rebecca Johnson Jill Pelzel Valerie Williams

4 The CHJA Stirrup Medal class makes its debut at Medal Finals. We offer this class not as a final, but as a taste of things to come for our new Stirrup riders. Who is eligible? Only those riders who have been riding in the Stirrup Divisions throughout the year. What else can you ride in at the Medal Finals? There is nothing else that you are eligible to ride in at this show with the exception of the paid schooling sessions. Can Medal Finals riders ride in this class? Absolutely no cross entries will be allowed. If you are riding in a Final, this class is not for you. What about stabling? Stirrup riders horses may arrive after 1:00 Tuesday with the Finals horses. Their special stall rate is available only if the horse leaves the grounds by the end of the day on Thursday. If the horse stays, the full rate will apply. NWSS Events Center has requested and will be enforcing a strict NO DOGS policy. PLEASE. Leave your dogs at home. You will be made to remove your dogs from the property if you bring them. DIRECTIONS: I-25 N or S Take I-70 E to Brighton Blvd/ Coliseum Exit,. Go North under I-70 to the Events Center Entrance. Trailer must proceed north on Brighton Blvd. To Gate #7. Foxcreek Horsemanship Challenge *Do you know your horse s resting heart rate? *Can you correctly identify the parts of a horse? *Why is it important to post on the correct diagonal? This is just a sample of the questions you might find on the written portion of this year s Foxcreek Horsemanship Challenge. The Foxcreek Horsemanship Challenge is open to all Medal finals qualifiers who wish to participate. It is designed to test the overall horseman and covers many aspects of general horsemanship. Scores from the rider s first round over fences is used as their Phase I total. Phase II is the written test that will be given prior to the Exhibitor s Party at the NWSS on Friday evening. Questions on the written test include topics relating to conformation, equipment, Hunter/Jumper/Equitation rules, and general horse care. The test this year will not be level-based. This is to encourage everyone to learn more about the horse. Rather than teaching riders how to win, we are promoting a more educated, universal horseman. The top eight scorers from Phases I & II combined will go on to Phase III. This phase consists of a hands-on practicum. Participants will be asked to demonstrate basic horsemanship skills on a live horse. Safe horse handling, ease with the animal, and proper technique will be emphasized. The goal of the Foxcreek Horsemanship Challenge is to reward and encourage the overall horseman, not just the show ring star. We invite everyone to take up the Challenge. The Horsemanship Challenge winner will receive a prize generously donated by Foxcreek Mobile Equine Outfitters. Highest Score by a 14 & under rider on the written test will receive a prize donated by The Schatz Family.
