2 DEPARTMENT A LIVESTOCK General Livestock 1. Livestock entries are due by September 8, Livestock will be allowed in the barns during the following times: -Dairy Goats 9/15 12pm-4pm -Sheep and Meat Goats 9/18 12pm-4pm -Dairy Cattle 9/21 11am-4pm - Broilers 9/15 11pm- 4pm A representative from the NCDA Veterinary Division will be on hand during these times to inspect all livestock prior to them entering the barn. All animals deemed unfit for entry to barns must be removed from the Rowan County Fairgrounds immediately. The opinion of the NCDA representative is final, no protests may be made to show management. No animals will be allowed into barns after the above check-in times. No Health Papers will be required. 3. Dairy, and Dairy Goatshow entries are open to anyone. Jr. Market Lamb, Jr. Ewe, and Jr. Meat Goatentries are open to Rowan County exhibitors. 4. Entries will be released at the following times: -Dairy Goats: Closing of Fair Saturday, September 16 -Jr. Market Lambs, Jr. Ewes, and Jr. Meat Goats: Closing of Fair Wednesday September 20 -Dairy Cattle: Closing of Fair Saturday, September No livestock trailer will be unhitched and left on the fairgrounds. Space for livestock trailers is provided at the school bus garage on Old Concord Road. Please park trailers inside the fence. 6. Exhibitors will be responsible for the care of their animals while on the fairgrounds and must maintain the cleanliness of the stall area. 7. The fair will provide a base of shavings; exhibitors may provide their own livestock bedding with full responsibility for utilization. 8. Any animal that gets loose from an exhibitor three times in the show ring will be excused from the ring. Unruly animals deemed to be a danger by the livestock superintendent to fair-goers, exhibitors, and other livestock will be excused from the fairground. 9. Animals will be shown only in the classes in which they are entered. The livestock superintendent, or show committee, reserves the right to adjust the classes according to the number of entries to avoid crowding in the show ring. 10. Exhibitors are asked to keep wheelbarrows empty of manure and to keep wheelbarrows and manure out of the aisles. Exhibitors cannot stack manure behind their livestock. 11. Livestock may not be removed from the fairground before being released,without the prior consent of the livestock superintendent. Premiums will be withheld. 12. Any artificial means of removing or remedying physical defects, altering conformation, or affecting the performance of exhibition animals, including (but not limited to) the use of illegal steroids and other drugs, dyeing, injection of a foreign substance or drug, the external application of any substance(irritant, counterirritant, or similar substance), or surgical procedure will be considered fraud and deception. The Rowan County Fair management reserves the right to conduct random testing of any animal as deemed appropriate. Any animal not passing the proper tests will be disqualified and all premiums will be forfeited. Exhibitors and any other persons involved in such treatment of an animal will be barred from exhibition at the Rowan County Fair and all fairs holding membership in the International Association of Fairs and Expositions will be notified. 13. The use of showing and/or handling practices or devices, such as striking an animal to cause swelling, using an electrical device, or other similar practices are prohibited. Exhibitors and any other persons involved in such treatment of an animal will be disqualified, all premiums will be withheld, will be barred from exhibition at the Rowan County Fair, and all fairs holding membership in the International Association of Fairs and Expositions will be notified. 14. Stall space will be assigned for all species. Dairy will be allotted an area approximately 4 feet wide per animal checked-in. Determination of the amount of stall space for tack is the responsibility of the exhibitor. 15. Any question arising that is not covered in the rules will be addressed by the livestock superintendent or show committee. Decisions will be final.

3 Dairy Cattle Showmanship: Friday September 22 at 6:30 Show: Saturday, September 23 at 1pm Dairy Cattle Check-In Thursday, September p.m., Release Saturday After Fair Closing 1. Entries will be accepted for the following dairy breeds: Ayrshire, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, Holstein, and Jersey. 2. A total of 140 entries will be accepted. Rowan County exhibitors will be given first priority. Out-of-county exhibitors that entered dairy cattle at the Rowan County Fair the previous year (2016) will be given second priority and will be accepted in the order their entries are received. Out-of-county exhibitors that did not enter dairy cattle at the Rowan County Fair the previous year (2016) will be given third priority and will be accepted in the order their entries are received. 3. In order to allow more farms to participate, out-of-county exhibitors will be limited to 10 head per farm/exhibitor. If stall spaces are available, additional entries may be accepted based upon the order in which the entries were received. 4. NO LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED! 5. The registration certificate, which will be considered as proof of identity, parentage, birth date, ownership, and breeder of an animal, must be available at check-in and upon request to the livestock superintendent. Only original registration papers will be accepted. No faxes, copies, or applications will be accepted. Pedigree information and proof of date of birth for Grade cattle must be provided upon request. 6. The following breed percentages will be accepted: Ayrshire Ayrshires must be at least 87percent registered Ayrshire to be eligible to show. Brown Swiss Standard Registration form, which is white with a green border, is issued with a normal six-digit registration number for registered Brown Swiss females and Certified Identity Enrollment Females (CIE). Brown Swiss step II Identity Enrollment, which have a 379 plus six-digit registration number may also be shown. Registration paper is green with a black border. Guernsey Registered Guernsey females and females in step four of the Genetic Recovery Program are eligible to show. Step four females have a GR prefix in their name. No other prefixes are eligible. Holstein Holsteins with 87 percent Registered Holstein Ancestry (RHA) and above are eligible to show. Jersey Registered Jersey females and females in step three of the Genetic Recovery Program are eligible to show. Step three animals are designated as GR. Animals designated as J1, OA, and PR are not eligible to show. 7. No heifers born twin to a bull calf will be shown until the heifer has been proven to be a breeder by an accredited veterinarian. Proof must be provided upon request. 8. Dry cows must be shown in the Dry Cow class. Cowsexhibited in the Milk Cow classes must be lactating. 9. Please note Junior Showmanship isfriday at 6:30pm. Fitting and Showing will NOT be evaluated in the Type classes. A top five in each age group of Junior Showmanship will be selected.the top two individuals from each age group are eligible to compete for a Dairy Supreme Showman award of $100 and a Dairy Reserve Supreme Showman award of $50. Junior Showmanship age groups are: Pee-Wee 8 and under; Junior 9-12; Intermediate 13-15; Senior Each exhibitor should include their age as of January 1, 2017 on their entry form.

DAIRY CATTLE DRESS-UP CONTEST Friday, September 22 at 6pm Contestants will be judged on creativity and uniqueness of their costume and their dairy animal s costume. Limited to one entry per exhibitor. To enter, please indicate as such on the livestock entry form, or inform the livestock superintendent or Extension Agent. First, second, and third placings receive cash awards of $50, $40, and $30, respectively.

6 Dairy Goats 2 Rings Showmanship: Friday September 15 at 6:30 p.m. Show: Saturday, September 16 at 1 p.m. Dairy Goat Check-In Friday, September 15between 12-4pm. Release Saturday After Fair Closing *New for 2017, The show will have 2 rings!! Note premiums will only be paid for Ring 1. All does will be automatically entered into both shows unless noted on entry form. 1. The Rowan County Fair Dairy Goat Show is sanctioned by the American Dairy Goat Association and their rules shall govern. Only American Dairy Goat Association, American Goat Society, and Canadian Goat Society registered, recorded, or applied-for animals may be shown in an official American Dairy Goat Association Show. 2. The Rowan County Fair Dairy Goat Show is sanctioned by ADGA for the following breeds and the show order is as follows: Nigerian Dwarf, Oberhasli, AOP, and Nubian. The order of the show is subject to change. 3. A total of 225 entries will be accepted in the order in which they are received. 4. The Junior and Senior shows are separately sanctioned. 5. We will have a 2ring show. Premiums will be paid for placings in Ring 1 only. Animals Exhibited in Ring 2 will only receive ribbons for their placings. 6. Original registration certificatesare required for all animals six months of age or older. 7. The original registration certificate or duplicate application stamped by the ADGA office is required for all animals under six months of age. 8. No copies of the registration certificate or the stamped duplicate application, faxes, or phone calls will be accepted in lieu of the original certificate. 9. A top five in each age group of Dairy Goat Showmanship will be selected, which will pay the top five individuals from each age group as follows: 1 st -$50, 2 nd -$45, 3 rd -$40, 4 th -$35, 5 th -$30. Open to Rowan County exhibitors under the age of 19, as of January 1, Exhibitors requiring assistance in the showring may be accompanied by an older junior. No adults. The youth in who s name the animal is entered will be the primary exhibitor. 3. Exhibitors DO need to enter all ewes, even those entered as Market lambs. 4. Each exhibitor is limited to entering a total of four ewes. 5. NO LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED! 6. To show as a breed, original registration papers must be presented at check-in. All crossbred ewe breed types will show by weight and the number of permanent incisors. Ewes will be mouthed. Ewes found to have more than two pairs of permanent incisors will be disqualified. 7. Sheep with obvious abscesses (open or unopened), ringworm, sore mouth, or any other contagious disease will not be allowed in the barn. All sheep must be appropriately identified and comply with USDA and NCDA&CS Scrapie Eradication Program guidelines. Call USDA-TAG ( ) or for more information. 8. 9 JUNIOR MARKET LAMB SHOW Show: Wednesday, September 20, 6 p.m. Beginning with Showmanship Check-In Monday September pm Weigh-In 3:30-5:00. Release Wednesday Sept 20 After Fair Closing 1. Open to Rowan County exhibitors under the age of 19, as of January 1, All Market Lambs Must be entered on official fair entry form 3. Exhibitors requiring assistance in the show ring may be accompanied by an older junior. No adults. The youth in who s name the animal is entered will be the primary exhibitor. 4. Lambs must weigh a minimum of 80 pounds and a maximum of 145 pounds to be eligible to compete for Grand and Reserve Champion honors. Lambs weighing less than 80 pounds or more than 145 pounds will be given one re-weigh opportunity. 5. Lambs weighing less than 80 pounds or more than 145 pounds are eligible to be used by their exhibitors for showmanship. 6. Market classes will be divided according to weight. 7. Showmanship classes will be divided by the age of the exhibitor, as of January 1, Showmanship age groups are: Pee-Wee 8 and under; Junior 9-12; Intermediate 13-15; Senior Junior Market Lamb Showmanship will be evaluated using the Danish System and premiums will be awarded as follows: Blue - $25; Red - $15; White - $5. 9. All lambs must have all their baby teeth intact. Lambs may be mouthed at check-in. 10. Only wethers and ewes are eligible for this show. 11. Each exhibitor is limited to two entries. If they have more than one lamb in the same class, they are responsible for getting another junior exhibitor to show one lamb for them. 12. Lambs must be shorn prior to the show, with no more than ¼ inch wool growth. 13.
