DOMINICAN hopped slightly the start, quickly settled three or four wide, was asked to pick it up three furlongs out, worked his way out seven wide about the furlong grounds, then closed determinedly to be up in the last lunge. STREET SENSE, well in hand while following the leaders five wide from the outset, crept up four wide approaching the final quarter, was floated out seven wide by GREAT HUNTER when that one was forced out a bit in the upper stretch by TEUFLESBERG, was carried out for a stride at the sixteenth pole by TEUFLESBERG, stuck a head in front briefly approaching the wire but dropped a tough decision in the last stride. ZANJERO, up close from the outset while in hand two or three wide, made a bold run to poke his head in front briefly in the final sixteenth but was outfinished. TEUFLESBERG bobbled at the start, quickly recovered and galloped to a clear, easy lead while in hand, accomplished modest fractions, came out farther on the track entering the upper stretch, drifted out in front of GREAT HUNTER about the sixteenth pole when sharply roused left-handed forcing that one to take up, was straightened and continued on with good courage. GREAT HUNTER brushed the side of the gate at the break, went up to track front-running TEUFLESBERG in hand four wide, inched after the leader leaving the second turn, was floated out a bit by that one entering the lane, then was forced to take up when TEUFLESBERG drifted out at the sixteenth pole. TIME SQUARED, off a step slow, raced three or four wide, angled seven or eight wide leaving the second turn but offered no closing threat. BANDINI gained a forward position in hand four wide early, raced within easy striking distance, was put to a drive leaving the seven-sixteenths pole, reached the front when straightened into the upper stretch when roused once on the right side, edged into the three path, then drew off in the final furlong under steady left-handed encouragement. HIGH LIMIT, nicely placed under a rating hold three or four wide from early on while tracking front-running SPANISH CHESTNUT, inched after that one while advancing inside the winner on the far turn, stuck his head in front for a stride or two between calls leaving the quarter-mile marker, then was no match for BANDINI when straightened for the drive while superior to the others despite bobbling sharply nearing the sixteenth pole. CLOSING ARGUMENT came out after the break and bumped with SPANISH CHESTNUT when that one leaned in, was reserved in behind the leaders three wide, was asked for more entering the far turn, brushed with CONSOLIDATOR at the five-sixteenths pole while immediately inside that one, angled five wide into the stretch and couldn't menace the top two while fully extended for his position. SUN KING, allowed to settle quickly into last position, maneuvered in four wide, moved out farther on the track midway on the backstretch while continuing to trail, made a moved leaving the three-eighths pole to reach a striking position, came out seven or eight wide entering the stretch but was empty in the final furlong. CONSOLIDATOR bobbled at the break and leaned in soon after bumping SPANISH CHESTNUT, raced three or four wide, brushed with CLOSING ARGUMENT approaching the stretch, swung out six wide, was angled back in three wide when straightened away but had no response. PEACE RULES moved to the fore near the inside approaching the first turn while rating kindly, went along under careful handling, turned back a bid from BRANCUSI leaving the three furlong marker, then expanded his advantage in the drive under six, well-spaced right-handed strokes of the whip. BRANCUSI angled in approaching the first turn while gaining a forward position, tightened it up on GREAT NOTION which forced that one to check nearing the first turn, edged up outside PEACE RULES to press the pace four wide, was asked for his best leaving the three-eighths pole, then couldn't sustain the needed momentum while clearly second best. OFFLEE WILD exchanged bumps approaching the first turn with CROWNED DANCER when that one was forced in by GREAT NOTION, settled inside within easy striking distance, saved ground to the stretch, came out five wide when straightened for the drive, was empty the last eighth but much the best of the others. CROWNED DANCER, in tight between rivals approaching the first turn, exchanged bumps first with GREAT NOTION, then bounced inward bumping with OFFLEE WILD, moved inside on the backstretch, saved ground into the stretch, angled five wide for the drive but couldn't menace. ACCEPTABLE VENTURE, outrun into the backstretch while in behind horses, moved out five or six wide and never seriously menaced while improving position. LION TAMER worked his way in behind rivals approaching the first turn, came out jolting GREAT NOTION at the seven furlong marker, settled to race under light rating between foes four wide, continued four wide in a striking position to the final quarter and was finished. LOTS OF SIZZLE raced in contention five wide for six furlongs and faded. TEN CENTS A SHINE, six wide on the first turn, moved in behind horses on the backstretch and was through after three-quarters. GREAT NOTION, checked approaching the first turn behind BRANCUSI and forced in when that one angled in, exchanged bumps with CROWNED DANCER while placing that one in tight, was jolted soundly at the seven furlong marker by LION TAMER and was through soon after. A foul claim lodged by the rider of CROWNED DANCER against BRANCUSI for alleged interference entering the first turn was disallowed. Trainer Hofmans David. Bred by Parrish Hill Farm (Ky). MILLENNIUM WIND moved to the fore inside soon after the start, controlled the pace under careful handling while racing in the two or three path, was earnestly challenged midway on the second turn from the outside by SONGANDAPRAYER, battled that one into submission upon entering the stretch, edged clear, then increased his advantage under intermittent urging. SONGANDAPRAYER went up early to press the winner under light rating, inched after MILLENNIUM WIND on the second turn, gained almost even terms, continued to challenge that one into the stretch, weakened gradually when straightened for the drive and drifted out for a stride leaving the eighth pole when roused with the whip left-handed. DOLLAR BILL, lightly bumped at the start when BONNIE SCOT leaned in, settled inside, was unhurried until the end of the backstretch, was asked a bit, continued inside into the stretch, angled three wide and improved position while not a serious threat. INVISIBLE INK, close up inside from the outset, eased out three wide approaching the second turn, was asked for his best leaving the three-eighths pole, remained prominent until the stretch but was empty the last eighth. A P VALENTINE, five or six wide into the backstretch, edged in around the second turn, continued three wide into the stretch and failed to menace. BONNIE SCOT leaned in at the start bumping lightly with DOLLAR BILL, angled inside early, appeared to be climbing on the backstretch, angled four or five wide into the stretch but flattened out. HERO'S TRIBUTE, taken in hand early to follow the leaders three or four wide, was put to a drive entering the second turn, but tired approaching the stretch.
