1 Stewards' Reports Print Melbourne Racing Caulfield Date: Saturday February Track: Good 3 Penetrometer: 5.2 Weather: Partly cloudy Rail: +3m entire circuit Stewards Panel: Mr T Bailey (Chair), Mr R Cram, Ms H Lester, Mr T Wilson & Mr D Torpy Race 1 TOORAK TOFF AT ROSEMONT STUD HANDICAP metres: After being placed in its starting stall Perfect Offering reared and became temporarily cast. Perfect Offering was examined by the RV veterinary surgeon behind the barriers and passed suitable to race. At the start Bon Vacance and Hai Lil came together due to both horses shifting ground. Near the 1200m Perfect Offering had to be checked to avoid the heels of Bon Vacance which hung in. For a short distance passing the 600m, Are There Any got unbalanced when having to be restrained off the heels of Perfect Offering. Approaching the 200m Hai Lil was held up for clear running for several strides. In the straight Are There Any hung in under pressure. C Williams (Spending (NZ)) was of the view that the filly may be better ridden more quietly in the future. D Dunn (Perfect Offering) reported that the connections had indicated the filly may be going for a spell. A post race veterinary examination of Perfect Offering revealed no abnormalities. Race 2 PFD FOOD SERVICES CHAIRMAN S STAKES (Listed) metres: At the start The Yowie jumped out and took Kona Breeze out onto Feral Cowboy. Present Glow was slow to jump (one length). Near the 800m Bring Back was steadied to avoid the heels of Recycle Prince which was shifting in.

2 The Hummel raced wide without cover throughout. Near the 500m Present Glow layed out and had to be steadied off the heels of Feral Cowboy. M Rodd, rider of Present Glow, advised that the colt continued to hang out. The Yowie was held up for clear running at the top of the straight until shifting out near the 200m. Race 3 TROA SUPPORTS NATIONAL JOCKEYS TRUST MANFRED STAKES (Listed) metres: When the pace steadied passing the 800m Albrecht had to be steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of Calibrate. Albrecht then raced wide without cover from that point. K McEvoy could offer no explanation for the poor performance of Albrecht today. A post race veterinary examination ofalbrecht revealed no abnormalities and a swab sample was taken for analysis. Race 4 MONJON SECURITY W.J. ADAMS STAKES (Listed) metres: Approaching the 200m Eight Bills was held up behind Light Express before shifting to the inside of that mare for clear running. G Boss (First Command) reported that the gelding tended to over-race in the early stages more than it had in recent starts and felt that the gleding was weighted up to its best. A post race veterinary examination of First Command revealed no abnormalities. Race 5 NATIONAL JOCKEYS TRUST MORNINGTON CUP PRELUDE (Listed) metres: Boom n Zoom was slow to begin (two lengths). Montgomery (NZ) was also slow to begin (one length). After passing the 600m Buxted (IRE), which was giving ground, was racing in restricted room to the inside of Lucky Eighty Eight and as a result tightened the running of Montgomery (NZ) which had to be eased. Scottish Border raced three wide without cover. C Newitt (Buxted (IRE)) was questioned regarding the tactics on Buxted (IRE) today, having been ridden in a forward position which has been contrary to its normal racing pattern. C Newitt explained that his instructions were to go forward if the gelding jumped well. He said the trainer indicated that they had been working on Buxted (IRE) in jumpouts to jump away more cleanly. Trainer Mr S Pritchard-Gordon explained that the instructions had not been dissimilar to previous starts but were unable to be carried out due to Buxted (IRE) either jumping away poorly or drawing wide barriers, and he did not envisage that Buxted (IRE) would display the necessary speed to be outside the leader today. Mr Pritchard-Gordon added that given that Buxted (IRE) was under pressure at the 900m the gelding would undergo an immedicate endoscopic examination and as a result of this the gelding was found to have very marginal mucous in the trachea and he suggested that the gelding may need a gear

3 change. Mr Pritchard-Gordon was notified of his obligations under the rules to notify the Stewards if there is any chance of a change of tactics to a horse s normal pattern. L Nolen (White Universe) was of the vew that the gelding did not feel right in its action. A subsequent veterinary examination of White Universe revealed the gelding had jarred up. C Williams (Boom n Zoom) could not explain the gelding s disappointing performance. A subsequent veterinary examination of Boom n Zoom Revealed the gelding to have a poor recovery and trainer Mr K Keys was advised that a veterinary clearance is required prior to Boom n Zoom racing again. A post race veterinary examination of Buxted (IRE) revealed no abnormal findings. M Rodd (Lucky Eighty Eight) was of the opinion the gelding races better outside of horses. Race 6 SWETTENHAM STUD SUMMER CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL metres: Gail was late in the mounting yard due to having to change a girth. After being placed in its starting stall Gold Sand kicked out on a number of occasions before being removed and examined by the RV veterinary surgeon who reported that Gold Sand was unsuitable to race. Gold Sand was subsequently a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 4.06pm. All monies invested on Gold Sand to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters prior to 4.06pm: 5 cents in the dollar for the Win (Future Solution), 9 cents in the dollar for place of winner, 4 cents in the dollar for second place (The New Boy), 4 cents in the dollar for third place (Infinite Energy) and 5 cents in the dollar for doubles bets. G Boss (Finishing Card) was of the view the gelding has difficiulty at running out 1600m. A subsequent veterinary examination of Finishing Card revealed Race 7 INGLIS NJT PIN & WIN COMPETITION HANDICAP metres: It s Crunch Time was a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 8.42am and trainer Mr D Harrison will submit a veterinary certificate in respect of it. When parading in the mounting yard Bianmick reared and dislodged D Gauci and cast both hind plates. The gelding was replated behind the barriers which necessitated a delay with the starting time. Cosmic Causeway raced wide without cover. Race 8 BC3 THOROUGHBREDS HANDICAP metres: At the start Spin The Bottle had to be checked when tightened between Pass The Post, which shifted in, and Danish Whiskey which was taken out by Folk Rock and You Can Dance which was bumped by Mosse Diva Spin The Bottle over-raced in the middle stages.

4 Approaching the 800m Crimson Lady (NZ) got its head up when being restrained to avoid the heels of Spin The Bottle which continued to over-race. Alsoapproaching the 800m Motto s Gem raced ungenerously for several strides. Passing the 600m Spin The Bottle was steadied to avoid the heels of Mosse Diva which resulted in Crimson Lady (NZ), which ws following, having to be checked. Minnie Downs raced wide without cover. P Mertens was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on Pass The Post today, given it was ridden in a forward position which is in contrast to recent starts. P Mertens explained that the mare has a tendency of being awkward away from the barriers however today the mare jumped well and was second up from a spell and therefore was fresh and he elected to go forward given the circumstances. His explanation was accepted. Murtoa, Tuesday January Race 7 CEC HOOPER AND SONS F & M 0-58 HANDICAP metres: Trainer Mr R Kingston reported to Stewards that Heart Of Strenght pulled up tight in her hamstrings, will be treated over the coming weeks and a decision will be made as to whether they continue with the mare s preparation. Ballarat Turf Club (Inner Track), Wednesday January Race 5 PORTER PLANT SHOWCASE 0 68 HANDICAP metres: Trainer Mr J McArdle has reported that Frogsplash pulled up fine and it is his intention to continue with the gelding s preparation. Race 8 HYGAIN SHOWCASE 0 68 HANDICAP metres: Trainer Mr S Morrish reported to Stewards that Vee Force has undergone further veterinary examinations subsequent to this race and the results of those tests will determine the horse s immediate racing future. A representative from the Robert Smerdon stable has informed Stewards that Danzareel has pulled up fine and puts the poor performance down to the gelding knuckling and losing ground at the start of the race.
