THIS EVENT IS A WILD ROSE COMPETITION SANCTIONED BY THE ALBERTA EQUESTRIAN FEDERATION This 2-day Horse Driving Trial (or HDT) is sanctioned by the Alberta Equestrian Federation (AEF) as a Wild Rose Competition. The event will be run under the 2015 American Driving Society (ADS) rules unless otherwise stated. The ADS Rulebook is available online at Each day will be treated as a separate show and will include all 3 phases of competition: Dressage, Cones and Marathon. ALL competitors must provide proof of membership with their Provincial Sports Association (Alberta Equestrian Federation or provincial equivalent). ENTRY DEADLINE: July 25, 2015 Entries are limited and will be accepted on a first paid first registered basis (must be post-marked on/before July 25, 2015). Late entries may be accepted, if space permits, and will be subject to a $25 late fee. Entry fees are only refundable subject to a Veterinarian s or Doctor s certificate prior to the start of the show. ACDA Member: $200 weekend or $150 day (stabling included) Non-Member: $225 weekend or $175 day (stabling included) This event is sanctioned by the Alberta Equestrian Federation (AEF) as a Wild Rose Competition. As such, all eligible entries received prior to the entry deadline will be entered into the AEF s Win Your Entry program, sponsored in part by Capri Insurance. This program will refund (to a maximum of $150) the show entry fees of one competitor in this show! LOGISTICS 1

2 Show will be held at the Beaumont & District Agricultural Society Grounds (approx 2km West of town on 50 th Ave) GPS Locate-Leduc County TWP Rd 505 Camping: Dry camping available on site (no hookups) at no cost. Outdoor bathrooms are available (no showers). Hotel and Motel accommodations are available in Nisku and Leduc. Stabling: ONE FREE BOXSTALL FOR 2 NIGHTS IS INCLUDED WITH EACH ENTRY. Additional stalls available for $20/night (bedding not included). Shavings available for pre-purchase (must be pre-ordered on your entry form) for $ 5/bag. Stalls may house no more than 2 animals per stall provided the animals are amicable together. All equines must be stabled in the covered boxstalls use of tie-outs or portable corrals is not permitted. Water is available onsite. Dogs: Well-behaved dogs are welcome provided they are under the direct control of the owner, either leashed, caged or confined to your trailer. Unattended barking dogs will not be tolerated. Food: A concession will be available on site Saturday & Sunday. There are also several fast food/restaurants available minutes away in the town of Beaumont. Saturday Evening Supper: The Klondike Chapter will host a Supper & Social on Saturday evening at 6pm. Dinner tickets must be pre-purchased and are $20/person. GENERAL RULES & INFORMATION The Alberta Carriage Driving Association, Klondike Chapter, Beaumont Agricultural Society, the officials, volunteers and all landowners on whose property the competition will take place, and any affiliates will not be held responsible for any theft, accident damage, injury, illness or death of horse, owners, driver, grooms, ground personnel, spectators or any person on the properties whatsoever. The Alberta Carriage Driving Association Safety Rules will be in effect. A copy will be posted at the show office. The organizing committee has the right to limit entries, combine classes or refuse any entry. Some competitors may have participated in organizing this event and/or course construction. Any equine 4 years old or over is eligible to compete Well-behaved, experienced driving Stallions will be permitted at the discretion of the Organizing Committee. Stallions must be stabled in the covered boxstall area and must be attended to by their driver and/or groom at all times when out of the stall. Carts/Carriages: any safe vehicle is acceptable. Reflectors and slow moving vehicle sign is not required unless driving on a public road. Pneumatic tires are acceptable as long as they are on a solid, sturdy wheel (metal-spoked bicycle-type wheels are not recommended). Solid smooth rubber wheels are required for all levels other than Training. A spares kit must be included on the carriage at all times and may be checked by the Safety Officer. JUNIORS: Junior Competitors will be 18 years of age & under. Junior Competitors under 14 years of age must be accompanied in the carriage at all times by a groom who is an experienced, adult horse-person. Junior Grooms must be at least 12yrs of age in Training & Preliminary, minimum 14yrs of age for Intermediate Level and must be capable of rendering assistance to the driver. It is strongly recommended that all participating Juniors wear a body protector and All juniors must wear a properly fitted, approved ASTM head gear whenever on a carriage, or horse/pony at the competition grounds.! 2

3 All competitors, with exception of Single VSEs and Small Ponies (<120cm) must be accompanied by a groom/navigator during the marathon competition. All multiple hitches (pairs, 4in hands, etc) must be accompanied by a groom(s) in all competitions (see ADS Article 937/943 for groom requirements). Please arrange to have a groom/navigator prior to the show and alert the show office secretary if scheduling issues may arise (Ex: drivers grooming for another driver or a groom attending multiple drivers). Drivers/grooms may act as groom/navigators for other competitors if the schedule allows (please note desire to do so on entry form) ASTM/SEI Approved Helmets MUST be worn by all persons on a vehicle during the Marathon competition. Junior Competitors are required to wear a helmet at all times while on a carriage or horse. It is strongly recommended that all competitors and grooms wear a Medical Armband containing a list of your personal medical conditions and requirements. Information contained therein is for use by EMT and medical personnel in case of an accident. All competitors will be charged a $20 Clean-up Deposit and a $10 Number Deposit (payable by separate cheques). Deposits will be refunded upon confirmation that manure/garbage has been removed from their parking/ stall area and that they have returned their Competitor Numbers to the Show Office. SHOW OFFICE Office opens Friday evening from 5:30pm to 8:00 pm and Saturday from 7:30am to 9:00 a.m. Competitors & Grooms must report to the show office upon arrival to pick up their Competitor s Package and to sign the respective waivers. PRIZES Ribbons will be awarded daily for 1 st, 2 nd & 3rd places in each Class. Prizes also to be awarded for Judge s Pick Best Dressage and Best-Dressed Marathon. There will be a High Point award for the top aggregate (over both days) score in each Division. DIVISIONS TRAINING LEVEL: Open to novice drivers and any drivers with horses that have not competed at higher levels. This level is recommended for competitors beginning Combined Driving competition or for seasoned competitors driving inexperienced horses. Marathon obstacles will not be timed. PRELIMINARY LEVEL: This level is suitable for beginning competitors with some prior competition experience, such as training level, driving trials. mini-cde s, etc. Marathon obstacles will be timed NEW - INTERMEDIATE LEVEL: This level is for competitors who have successfully completed at least 3 Combined Driving events at Preliminary Level or higher. CLASSES Measurements below are for an un-shod equine unless stated otherwise Horse: any equine over 148cm Pony: any equine 120cm to 148cm without shoes or 149cm with shoes Small Pony: any equine 99cm to less than 120cm with or without shoes Very Small Equine (VSE): any equine under 99cm DRESSAGE TRAINING LEVEL: ADS Training Level Test #3 POM (1994) PRELIMINARY LEVEL: ADS Preliminary Test #3 POM (1994) INTERMEDIATE LEVEL: ADS Intermediate Test #7 (2012) Dressage tests can be obtained from Training level may have their test dictated to them by their groom. The arena will be 40m x 80m for all classes, except Intermediate Level which will use a 40m x 100m arena, and VSE which will use a 20 x 40m arena. Presen-! 3

4 tation will be judged on the move and will reflect cleanliness, style of dress and appearance. Any style of dress is accepted but a jacket/vest, ties, hat/properly secured, approved protective headgear is recommended. An apron or lap robe and gloves are recommended. A whip in hand is required. CONES/OBSTACLES Cones will be run as a Fault Competition. Length of the course will be a maximum of 800m. Dress code will be as for Dressage. MARATHON (Section B only) Total distance of Section E will be up to 7km with up to 5 obstacles. Training level will complete 3 gates (A,B & C), are only permitted to walk/ trot within the obstacle and will not be timed within the obstacles. Preliminary Level will complete 4 gates, are permitted to use any gait within an obstacle and they will be timed within the obstacles. Intermediate will complete 5 gates and are permitted to use any gait within an obstacle. Marathon must be completed at the walk or trot. Competitors may walk or trot during the last 300m of the course, with no deviation from course (including circling, serpentine, zigzag or halt for any reason). There may be a water obstacle but with provisions to omit it. Use of breeching is mandatory for those vehicles that have no brakes. Dress code: any style accepted, gloves recommended. Drivers are required to carry a whip and must have their whip in-hand while in an obstacle. Whips may be secured to the vehicle while on course outside of the obstacles. Approved PROTECTIVE HEAD- GEAR is mandatory for ALL participants (including grooms/navigators) during the Marathon Competition.
